Two days later, the ship had some problems and docked in Malaysia to be inspected before proceeding with the voyage and everyone who did not work on maintenance would have the day off.

"Hey, sailor! Can I sit with you two?" Catherine asked Steve who was having breakfast with Freddie.

"Of course, Catherine. He is Freddie," Steve told her and pointed to Freddie who was sitting across from him.

Catherine sat next to Steve and held out her hand to Freddie. "Hello, Freddie. I'm Catherine."

"Hello, Catherine. Welcome," Freddie replied.

Catherine smiled at Freddie. "Thanks."

Another boy came over, holding his breakfast tray.

"Hi, McGarrett, Freddie, and a new girl," he said.

"Hi, Billy," Steve and Freddie replied.

Catherine was silent and was eating.

Billy sat next to Freddie and looked at Catherine. "Well, since they didn't introduce me, I'm going to introduce myself. I'm William Harrington, but you can call me Billy."

"I'm Catherine," she replied.

Steve felt uncomfortable with Billy's presence and didn't like that he was talking to Catherine. She had sat there to talk to him and Billy wanted to steal her attention. He didn't want to admit it, but he was jealous.

Steve's mood suddenly changed and Catherine and Freddie realized that. She stopped talking to Billy while Freddie caught everyone's attention to telling jokes. Catherine just ate and laughed at Freddie's jokes. She wasn't the type that would use Billy to make Steve jealous.

Jane also approached them and sat on the end of the bench next to Steve, almost on his lap, pushing him against Catherine. Catherine moved away to the other end of the bench.

"I'm sorry, Catherine," Steve asked.

"It's okay," Catherine replied. She knew that Jane had been intensifying her flirtations with Steve for the past two days, and just as Billy irritated Steve, Jane irritated Catherine.

When they were finishing breakfast, a soldier approached telling Billy and Jane that their team was being called up for an extra meeting.

"It was nice to be with you, friends," Billy said and then looked at Catherine. "Was a pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise," Catherine replied politely.

Jane did not mind the presence of Catherine and Freddie and made her proposal to Steve.

"Steve, how about we go out at night? Let's get to know the city a little, have some fun."

"Sure. Why not? I'll wait for you on the beach next door at 8 pm," Steve replied and Catherine was disappointed and frustrated. "Of all the girls on the ship, did he choose Jane?" She thought.

"I'll be there," Jane replied to Steve enthusiastically and then went to the meeting with her superiors.

"You'll be there, too, right?" Steve told Catherine.

"Me? You just set up a date with Jane. What am I going to do there? Watch you two dating?" Catherine told Steve.

"Date? What date, Catherine? It's a luau that we from team six are organizing. Almost all of the sailors will be there," Steve replied.

Freddie laughed and looked at Catherine. "Steve is bad, isn't he?"

"She left here thinking it is a date," Catherine told Steve and Freddie.

"Don't worry. Soon she'll find out it isn't. The news about the luau is going to spread fast," Freddie replied. He took his tray and stood up. "Bye, I'm going to get dressed to see the city, and I'm going to call Kelly, too."

"Bye, Freddie. Good job," Catherine replied.

"I'll be in the locker room in no time, Freddie," Steve said.

"Ok," Freddie answered and left.

"Did you really think I was going to make a date with Jane?" Steve asked.

"It was what I thought and what everyone would think," Catherine replied to him.

"What about Billy Harrington? I thought he was going to propose you," Steve told her.

Catherine laughed. "What? He was just nice!"

"Nice ... I know ..." he said in a doubtful tone.

Catherine also went around town and bought a new dress. She still didn't know if she was going to the luau or not, but if she decided to go, she would have a new outfit. She bought a blue dress and wondered if it was a little short, but she had liked it.

At night, Catherine was unsure whether to go to the luau or not. She saw Jane get dressed and put on her makeup to go to the "supposed date" with Steve. The other girls were also getting ready and were excited.

"Aren't you going, Catherine?" One of the roommates asked.

"I don't think so," Catherine replied.

"Great," Catherine heard Jane murmur.

After the girls left, Catherine called her mother to talk. She talked about how she met Steve, about Jane's teasing, about everything.

"And why don't you go to the luau, daughter?" His mother asked.

"I don't know, mom. I'm feeling a few things about him, and I don't want to be disappointed. And besides, I'm here to work and not to have fun."

"Don't take everything too seriously, my daughter. Go have fun, but with responsibility. And as for this guy, I can't say anything because I don't know him, but great love can start anywhere, whether on a ship or in a supermarket line, you never know. Go to the party and be happy. "

Some time later, Catherine arrived at the luau on the beach and Steve had a Ukulele in his hands and the sailors insisted that he sing and play. Jane was beside the other girls with an angry expression because she discovered that there was no "date" with Steve.

Steve was a little shy, but started playing and singing. He saw Catherine a little away from the other people and looked at her as she sang. Catherine was smiling at him and their eyes were connected as if there was no one else there. A feeling was being born there that would be greater than the verses of a song could express.
