The music was hectic, but when Steve and Catherine hit the dance floor, someone soon put on a romantic song. Steve looked around and saw no more Freddie. "This is Freddie's thing," Steve thought. And it really was, Freddie was in the booth of the guy who chose the songs and waved at Steve.
Steve put his hand on Catherine's waist and the other hand held her hand.
"Forgive me if I ever step on your foot."
"I don't think you would step on my foot," Catherine replied.
Catherine was smiling as she danced with him and Steve was looking at her a little mesmerized.
"That song is so beautiful," she said.
"Yes. Starting today, I think I will always remember you when I hear this song," Steve replied.
"Thank you," she replied.
Steve smiled. "Why are you thanking me?"
"Because it's always good to be associated with a good thing," she said and kept smiling.
"There is no way to associate you with anything bad."
Steve put both arms around her waist and Catherine put her arms around his neck.
The song was ending and Freddie asked the sound operator to put on another romantic song. "Or rather, can you repeat the same song?"
The same song was repeated and nobody understood anything. Steve looked at the sound booth and Freddie was still there and nodded to Steve.
"So, Did you tell Jane I lied?" Catherine asked getting his attention back.
"No. I wouldn't do that. I mean, I will not do that if it doesn't hurt me at work. If she spreads this out to everyone on the ship, I'm going to have to say it's not true because there are no kids on my personal record."
"Oh, Steve! I didn't even think about it. It was just a joke."
"It's okay, Catherine."
Catherine fell silent and was just enjoying his presence. She was unable to think of anything else at that moment.
Catherine was startled when she and Steve were abruptly separated by Jane.
"What is it, Jane?" Catherine asked.
Jane didn't respond and turned her attention to Steve. "Shall we dance, Steve?"
"What do you want, Jane? You don't get anything by being rude and arrogant. I don't want to dance with you, I'm sorry," Steve replied to her and everyone was looking at them.
Steve touched Catherine's arm. "I'm going back to the ship. Are you coming or are you going to stay here for a while?"
"I'm also going back to the ship," Catherine replied. She was upset by Jane's attitude.
"What happened, Steve?" Freddie asked.
"Jane is getting more and more clueless. It's time to put a stop to this. I'm going back to the ship, Freddie. Will you come with us?" Steve told his friend.
"Yes, let's go," Freddie replied and went with Steve and Catherine.
Jane saw them go and was furious. She was like the girl who felt the most beautiful in the class and didn't accept being rejected by anyone.
"Give it up, Jane. You don't stand a chance with him," one of her friends said.
"Shut up," Jane replied.
A few minutes later, Catherine, Steve and Freddie arrived on the ship.
"Well, guys, it was a great night despite Jane. See you tomorrow," Catherine told Steve and Freddie.
"Have a great night," Catherine. I also had fun. See you tomorrow, "Steve told her.
"Good night," Freddie told her.
Catherine went to her quarters and Steve and Freddie stayed on the deck for a while.
"What were you doing there with the sound operator?" Steve asked Freddie.
"Hmm! You know what I was doing. I was giving you a chance to dance cheek to cheek with her. Don't say you didn't like it, because you looked like a fool in love."
Steve smiled. "Yes, I did. But we're just friends, Freddie. She's different, I can't explain how. And she would never look with love interests at a guy like me," Steve replied.
"What is this lack of confidence, man? Look at Jane, she's crazy about you."
"But Catherine is not Jane. As I told you, she is different. She is special."
"That's what I say, you need to see your face when you talk about her."
Steve smiled. "Stop it, Freddie."
"She is very fragrant, isn't she? And you felt it up close."
"Enough, Freddie! Let's go to sleep, you fool." Steve smiled. "But yes, she's very fragrant."
