"Yes!" Catherine vibrated after Steve finished the call. She was so happy and needed to share this with someone.
"Mom? Can you talk now or are you busy?" Catherine asked Carol.
"I'll never be too busy for you, honey. You'll always be my priority."
"Thank you, Mom. Steve asked me to go to the army ball with him..." Catherine paused and smiled before continuing to speak. "And he said we're not going as friends, we're going on a date."
"Oh, daughter, that's wonderful! Steve's a good guy and I know how much you love him. I hope this works, Catherine."
"Thank you, Mom. Tomorrow I'll buy a new dress and shoes. I'm really looking forward to this day."
"It's going to be a great day, Catherine, and I'm going want to know everything."
"Okay, Mom. I need to continue my work now. I love you."
"I love you too, daughter. We'll talk again later."
"Sure, Mom." Catherine finished the call and spent the rest of the day happy and smiling.
Away from there, Greer checked her phone again. She had been expecting a call from Steve since the end of the mission in Morocco and that call never happened. She had a friend, Anthony, who worked in the Intelligence sector and kept her informed of Steve's steps, and she decided to call him.
"Steve is on a mission and something went wrong in this mission, but I don't know where exactly he is now. He hasn't returned to the country yet. When I know, I'll tell you," Anthony told Greer.
"Okay. Thanks, Anthony. I'll wait for your call." Greer finished the call and was pensive. "Why do I get the feeling you're running away from me, Steve?"
Anthony entered the room where Catherine worked and saw her smiling alone. "Are you happy, Rollins?"
"Yes, Anthony," she replied.
"Any special reason?"
"No, Anthony. I'm just a happy person. It's that simple."
Anthony wanted to know where Steve was and knew that Catherine and Steve were friends. "Rollins, do you know where McGarrett is?"
Catherine wondered why Anthony was asking her that. "Did he intercept my conversation with Steve? That's not possible, we were on a secure line," she thought.
"For all I know, Steve is on a mission, Anthony, and it's a classified mission. Why the question?" Catherine asked him.
"Nothing. Forget my question," Anthony answered her and left the room.
At the end of the day, Catherine went home and wanted to talk to Steve, but he hadn't told her how to get in touch. "Damn. I should have asked."
Seven days later, one Thursday, Steve called her and said he was leaving the hospital. "I'll be in the USA in time to go to the dance on Saturday night. Is our date still on?"
"Yes, it is."
"Great, Cath. I'll come by your house to pick you up."
"That's not necessary, Steve. Give me the address and I'll meet you there."
Steve gave her the address. "I'll wait for you outside. Until then."
"Till then, sailor." Catherine threw herself into bed with the phone in her hand. She was very happy. "Oh, my God! It's official now! We're having a date!"
Steve smiled as he walked down the hospital corridor. He was also happy to invite her and even happier that she accepted. "Thank you, Joe," he said in a low voice, heading for the exit.
Catherine prepared all day long to go to her date with Steve. She had chosen a blue dress and made an elegant braid in her hair. She wore a light make-up and the happiness she was feeling made her even more beautiful.
Steve arrived on time and waited for Catherine. After ten minutes of waiting, she had not arrived yet. He called her a little nervous, afraid that she had given up on the date. "Cath? Are you still coming, or have you given up?"
"Hey, Steve. I'm going, but I've had some unforeseen events and I'm only supposed to arrive in an hour."
"In an hour?" Steve looked at the party hall and the dance had already started. "All right, Cath, I'll wait."
"Thank you, sailor... By the way, you look beautiful in that suit."
Steve smiled and looked around. Catherine appeared from behind a car and Steve was paralyzed when he looked at her.
"Cath?" He let the phone slip out of his hand and fell to the ground.
"Oh, I hope it didn't break," she told him.
Steve bent down and picked up the phone. He got up and looked at her. "Cath, I must say I've never seen you as beautiful as you are today."
Catherine hugged him for a long time. "Thank you. I missed you."
"I missed you too." Steve corresponded to her hug and then passed his arm around her waist. "So? Shall we dance?"
She smiled at him broadly. "Let's go."
Anthony arrived at the dance with his girlfriend and saw Steve with Catherine. "Well, I can tell that to Greer tomorrow," he thought and went to enjoy the dance with his girlfriend.
Steve and Catherine entered and Steve took her immediately to the dance floor since the music was romantic. There were other people from the Navy there, although the event was from the army, but they seemed not to care about it. At that moment it was just the two of them, eyes to eyes, smiles, the touch of their hands, a magical moment.
