It had been two days since I had come up with the plan of borrowing the invisibility cloak. But I haven't had a lesson with Potter since. Draco knew from previous years that before quidditch practice, Potter usually went to the field a little earlier then the rest of the team to set up. So I decided that would be the perfect place and time to speak with him.
"Where are you going?" Pansy asked me. We had just eaten dinner and had gone back to our dormitory to relax before heading down to the common room for another night of playing games. Pansy was laying on top of her bed, flipping through a magazine. "Nowhere," I told her, hoping she would let it rest. But she didn't. She closed her magazine and sat up. "You usually don't dress up nicely after dinner on a school day, you also never take of you Slytherin ring."
"I am not dressed that nicely."
"Are you going to see Potter?"
I knew that lying would only make her more curious and makes her ask more questions, which I couldn't answer. So I decided to tell her as much of the truth I could without letting her know about Draco's task. "Fine, I am. I need to borrow something from him. That is all."
"What could you possibly need to borrow from Potter?"
"I need his invisibility cloak to look up some ingredients for a potion," I tell her, hoping she would stop questioning me.
"Zara I love you, but that is by far the most boring thing to do with an invisibility cloak. You seriously want to borrow it for schoolwork?" she asks me laughing. I smiled. She believes me.
"Can you cover for me?" I ask her in case anyone asks me why I won't join them this evening in the common room. She nods, stands up and grabs something from her makeup pouch. She comes my way and hands me small tube of lipgloss. I take it from her, my eyebrows raised.
"To help increase your changes. He can't tell you no when you look at him with those puppy dog eyes and pouty lips," she says while she opens the two upper buttons of my blouse. I give her a small tick on her hands. "I'm not going to seduce the guy," I scoffed. "It's not seducing, it's using your female charms to get what you want. You are beautiful, use it." I roll my eyes, but knew she had a point. Potter seemed to like me, in the sense that he was friendly. But I was still a Slytherin student, and also soon to be married to his nemesis. So perhaps following Pansy's advice wasn't the worst idea.
"Fine, I'll put on the damn lipgloss," I quickly walk to my nightstand to grab my mirror and put on the lipgloss. It was a slightly tinted gloss, which made my lips a little bit more red. It was a very pretty gloss, but I didn't expect anything else from Pansy. She always had the best make-up products. "What are you doing?" I ask her when I see her going through my closet.
"Finding you a good push up bra."
Luckily I had been able to talk Pansy out of the whole push up bra idea. I had been waiting by the door of the dressing rooms at the quidditch field for about half a hour, but there had been no sign of Potter. It would only be another ten minutes before their practice would officially start, and I couldn't be found hanging out at the quidditch field when the Gryffindor team was about to practice. Just when I decided to leave, I saw Potter walking towards me. He didn't seem to recognise me at first, since it had already been a little dark outside.
"Zara, what are you doing here?" he asks me when he finally saw me standing.
"There's something I had to ask you, and I didn't know what other way I could speak with you in private," I admitted. A light smile formed on his lips. "Have you been waiting for me here?" I nodded, earning an even bigger smile. Was he happy that I had waited for him?
I suddenly hear loud voices and laughter, which meant the rest of his team were close by. Potter also looked back to the sound. He suddenly grabs my sleeve and pulls me a little further away to the side of the stadium, behind a big wooden pillar. He let go of me and put his finger to his lips, signing for me to stay silent. We waited until everyone had gone inside the dressing rooms before speaking again.
"Won't they wonder where you are?" I ask him.
"I'll just tell them I saw Hagrid on my way here and he had to show me something."
"Don't want them to know you are hanging out with a Slytherin student?" I grin.
"As much as you don't want people to know you are hanging out with a Gryffindor student," he threw back at me.
"Fair enough."
"So what is it you want to borrow?" he asks me.
I let out a deep breath, feeling myself getting nervous. After Draco had finally opened up to me and I came up with the plan, I really couldn't screw up my part. I didn't want to let Draco down.
"Your invisibility cloak."
He furrows his brows; "How do you know about my cloak?"
"Draco. He said you had been hiding in our compartment during the train ride with the cloak on," he let him know. Potter bites his lip. He seemed uncomfortable that I knew he had been eavesdropping on our private conversation.
"Yes, I'm sorry about that," he mumbles, making me laugh.
"If you wanted to hang out with the cool kids, all you had to do is ask Potter," I smile.
There were a few moments of silence between us, and I took this time to look him up and down, pouting my lips every so slightly like Pansy had told me to do. I felt absolutely ridiculous. Even though I was used to dressing in a certain way, showing up at a quidditch field in heels, a short skirt and glossy lips was absurd, even for me. I looked nothing like the type of girls Potter had seemed to fancy in the past. The more I thought about it, the more insecure I began to feel. I wrapped my arms over each other in a silly attempt to cover up a bit more.
"So why do you want to borrow my cloak?" Potter then asks me, breaking the silence which I was thankful for. I was starting to drive myself crazy with all this overthinking about the way I looked. I didn't understand why I cared so much anyway.
"There is a potion I want to make, but there are some ingredients I need to read up on before going ahead with it. However, the book is in the restricted area," I mumbled.
"Okay."
"Okay?" I ask him, my voice a little higher than usual, completely surprised by how quickly he agreed.
"Under one condition," he then begins. I looked at him with wondering eyes, curious as to what he would want. I nodded at him slowly, waiting for him to speak.
"I'm coming with you."
