Chapter nine:
(Peter's pov)
I knew one thing and one thing only and that was that Eden Sinclair-Rogers was gorgeous, but totally in a friend way… I think. I didn't know what to feel when Mr Stark told introduced her as the Ghost Assassin, I mean I had some general knowledge of who that was but as soon as I was alone I researched anything that the internet could tell me about The Ghost Assassin. What I found was quite scary and it did take everything in me to not judge Eden based off what I was reading on the internet. I consulted with Aunt May on the matter, seeing as she knew I was Spiderman, which was going better these days, she wasn't as strict knowing that I technically had a job to do.
~Flashback~
"Aunt May, I need some advice?" I appeared in the kitchen as she was leaning over the oven, she looked deep in contemplation. She jumped a mile when she heard my voice and turned to glare at me.
"Peter Parker, one of these days you're going to actually give me a heart attack and then how will you feel huh?" She glared, I chuckled and shrugged smirking, she shook her head, "Advice? Okay is it just general advice or have you done something?" She asked, hands on her hips.
"It's a bit of tricky situation, you know with me being Spiderman I spend a lot of time at Stark tower well I was introduced to Mr Starks niece yesterday, she's so pretty Aunt May, she's long blonde hair and her eyes are like a most gorgeous shade of blue you've ever seen, there like blue with bits of green and gold flecks, they're mesmerising." I trailed off, deep in thought over Eden's eyes. I didn't see Aunt May roll her eyes at me, she cleared her throat to snap me out of my reverie, "Um right… well when Mr Stark introduced her he called her the ghost assassin and I've done some research because I didn't know too much about it, but what I found Aunt May is pretty scary and I didn't want to judge her based off what I read… which is where you come in." I unloaded it all on her and she just looked at me blankly.
"Right well, lets sit down and you can tell me what it is you've found on the internet and then we'll go from there." She said and lead me over to the sofas and I began to tell her everything that I'd discovered, she cringed at majority of it but knew that it wasn't uncommon for atrocities to happen in this life. Once I'd finished telling her about it she thought about it for a few minutes and then sighed. "Peter, this is very sensitive subject, of course the things that the girl has done aren't good things but do we know why they were done? I think you need to get her side of the story before you decide on whether she's a good person. You said her name was Eden Sinclair… I don't suppose her mum's name was Eve Sinclair because I remember seeing her on the news… must have been eight maybe nine years ago when she was murdered and her daughter was gone." Aunt May trailed off and I had a nagging feeling that Eden was the daughter who went missing.
~End flashback~
I'd thought a lot about what Aunt May had said about knowing Eden's side of the story before deciding on whether she was a good person and one thing that had definitely stuck in my brain was the possibility that Eden's mum had been murdered and she had been kidnapped. I decided I would go to the party anyway and I would try to have a good time knowing that Eden was the ghost assassin. I showered and stood in front of my closet almost having a meltdown on what to wear when I remembered Eden saying I should wear black jeans, converse and a white shirt, it seemed like a safe option and so I obliged, I quickly dressed and grabbed my mask knowing I was going to be late if I spent any more time hanging around. I shouted a quick goodbye to Aunt May and pulled my mask over my face before jumping through my window onto the fire escape and swinging my way through the city.
When I neared the tower I noticed a figure leaning on the railing of one the many balconies to adorn the tower, I realised it was Eden and so I swung up and landed on the railing next to her, she quickly jumped into defence and I saw purple emanating from her fingers which I almost found mesmerising and I could definitely get lost watching it, she then realised it was me and looked me up and down which made me feel a stirring in the pit of my stomach.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I told her jumping down from the railing and standing next to her, she giggled and the purple coming from her hands disappeared. I decided not to question it just yet.
"Don't worry Parker, you didn't scare me. I was ready to blast you six ways from Sunday." She told me, smirking when my eyes widened. I pulled off my mask and ran a hand through my hair, I noticed her staring at me a little but I acted as if I hadn't noticed it.
"W-well I'm glad you didn't." Nice one Peter, why did you have to stutter. She giggled again and I felt that stirring in my stomach again, what was going on with me. She leaned back on the railing and I couldn't help but glance at her ass, I quickly shook off any thoughts. "What are you doing out here anyway?" I asked genuinely curious as to why she was outside when her party was going on inside.
"Hiding mostly." She answered instantly, I looked at her confused. "This whole normal teenage girl isn't me, I've never had it and I don't know how to do it." She explained, I was definitely surprised she answered me, it appeared to be completely honest. "I mean this dress isn't me at all." She motioned to herself but I assumed she was motioning more so to her dress.
"I think you look beautiful Eden." I blurted out without thinking and instantly blushed, oh sweet Jesus, why did I say that. She locked eyes with me and then blushed herself, I made The Ghost Assassin blush… I mean.
"You don't look so bad yourself Peter." I think she actually got redder as she spoke those words and I was kind of living for it. I smiled at her knowing she was extremely embarrassed and she returned with a smile that was so beautiful, it almost blindsided me. "Do you maybe want to head in there with me… to dance?" She asked shyly, almost looking affronted that she was being so shy about it.
"I'd love to." I grinned as I answered her, I could tell she was shy enough for the both of us so I needed to play it cool and be calm and collected Peter and not nerdy, babbling mess Peter. She smiled again and god was she beautiful when she smiled but I shook it off and held my hand out for her, she looked at it for a few seconds before taking it and I lead her back inside, taking her straight to the dancefloor. I placed my hands on her waist and she linked hers at the back of my neck. I knew everyone was staring at us and so I just focused on her.
"Everyone's watching us…" She whispered, she was definitely self-conscious, I looked down into her beautiful blue eyes and looked around before quickly looking back at her. "I'm definitely no good in the spotlight, I'd prefer to stick to the shadows… like a ghost." She told me and although I was genuinely curious, I fought it off and nodded agreeing with her.
"I completely get it, I'm not used to being in the spotlight either." I whispered back, "You think everyone will remember my face if I put my mask back on right now?" I asked her smirking, trying to make light of the situation and to help settle her nervousness. She laughed and I knew from that moment I was done for, her laugh was almost musical and it mesmerised me.
"They'd be scared if I put mine on so maybe we should." She replied and I grinned down at her as she smiled up at me. The only thing that of made it more perfect is that I was very clearly almost a head taller than her and if that was the cutest thing ever. I saw a flash go off from the corner of my eye and noticed a photographer taking pictures, I knew I needed that photograph and soon.
We spent the rest of the night dancing and I tried my hardest to make her laugh at every opportunity I got but as the night wore on majority of people left and there was just the Avengers sat around on the family floor. The music was now more chilled out and the lights had been changed too. I'd somehow found myself in a conversation with Mr Stark about Eden herself who was sitting between Natasha and Wanda who hugged her to their sides.
"So Peter, you got eyes for my niece?" Mr Stark abruptly asked me and I felt my stomach drop out of my ass.
"W-what? N-no." I was a stuttering mess and he smirked.
"Very convincing Parker, now I've got no problems with you potentially pursuing a relationship with my niece because you're a good kid okay? But if I find out you've hurt that girl then I don't need to tell what will happen to you because even though her dad will probably give you this same chat except he'll have his metal armed buddy standing next to him… and there's no telling what Eden will do." He told me and I visibly gulped.
"Her d-dad?" I stuttered yet again, I was doing a lot of that recently.
"Yeah Steve Rogers, Captain America… ring any bells." He told me sarcastically, I gulped yet again.
"No message received, one hundred percent clear." I replied quickly and he laughed clapping me on the shoulder.
"Feel free to stay the night, I know your aunt will have my head if I send you back this late." He told me and I nodded, thanking him. I watched as he walked away and over to Eden, kissing her on the forehead and then leaving with majority of the others following him out of the room, presumably going to bed. I'd somehow ended up on the room with Eden and her dad and Mr Barnes, I didn't like my odds right about now.
"You're not heading home tonight are you Peter?" Eden asked and I shook my head instantly smiling at her, I noticed from the corner of my eye her dad was staring at me and Mr Barnes was staring between us both.
"No, Mr Stark said I could stay the night." I answered and quickly looked over at Captain Rogers, "Of course if that's okay with you Captain Rogers… sir." I gulped and Eden most definitely rolled her eyes.
"Peter, if Uncle Tony said it's fine for you to say then that's all the permission you need." Eden piped up and glared at her dad, who seemed like he was about to say something, but didn't. "In fact come on I'll show you to a spare room." She told and got up from her chair gesturing for me to follow her, which I did.
"Now just hold on a second…" I heard her dad say and she whirled around to look at him, "I… um... just wanted to say goodnight, Eden." He quickly covered up what he was really going to say and I have to be honest, it was a very quick save. Eden complied regardless and went to say goodnight to her dad and to Mr Barnes before she grabbed my hand to lead me to the elevator. We went up in the elevator and Eden motioned to a bedroom.
"You can take this bedroom if you'd like, mine is just across here so if you need anything then you know where I am." She opened the door to show me the room, she seemed very nervous but I gazed around the room and it was definitely very luxurious, I was too busy looking around that I didn't notice Eden staring directly at me. "Um… I hope this is okay for you." She added which made me turn my attention to her, I'd obviously noticed how beautiful she was earlier on in the night but now she was stood in different lighting and seemed more relaxed now she was away from the party environment. My eyes drifted from her face down her body which was absolutely perfect, curves in all the right places and legs that seemed like they went on for miles. I suddenly realised what I was doing and practically pinged my eyes out of my head to get them to look back at her face.
"This is perfect, thank you Eden." I reassured her and she nodded.
"Okay well, I better get to bed. I think Nat and Wanda want me to train in the morning." She told me and took a steadying breath, I wondered why.
"That sounds awesome, I might come check you out." I instantly recoiled, "No um.. I-I-I didn't mean check you out… I meant check it out. I wouldn't be checking you out, oh no I didn't mean I wouldn't check you out because you're gorgeous by no I'm only going to checking out the training." I rambled on and on not thinking I was ever going to stop, Eden was definitely going to think I'm a complete and utter nerd now. She giggled and I swear the heavens opened for me, I could see the blush rising on her cheeks, she quickly leaned over and kissed my cheek.
"I think you're gorgeous too, Parker. Goodnight." She said quickly and quietly, leaving the room and shutting the door behind her, I think I let out a breath I'd been holding since the second I saw her on the balcony, I shook myself out of my stupor and moved around to get ready for bed.
I took a quick shower and found some clothes in one of the dressers, I just chose a pair of boxers and some grey joggers just for bed. I got into bed and just listened to the silence for a bit, it was broken by me being to hear Eden moving around in her room. I really hated my abilities sometimes, especially when I heard what I heard next.
"Mum… I know you're watching me from heaven, I wish you could have been here tonight to see me dancing with dad and even Bucky. I know you'd have smacked Uncle Tony for going all out but also would have thanked him for loving me so much, I'm so glad to have found him again and kinda not under threat of Pierce and Rumlow. I'll have to ask him about your grave, I didn't think I was ready for it before but I feel a bit stronger now and I'm pretty sure I could handle it. Dad's lonely, he misses you mum, just like I do but we have each other now and I know we'll be okay because you're always in our memories and in our hearts. I guess I just wanted to feel like I have you here with me on my birthday..." I heard Eden speaking and then hiccup on what sounded like a sob, I could feel my eyes welling up with tears just listening to her, "I…um… met a boy. He's funny and sweet and so handsome, his eyes are like chocolate with flecks of gold in them mum, I just know you'd comment on them if you'd seen them. I really think you'd like him mum… um anyway… I just wanted to say that I really miss you mum, but I know you're here with me and I'll get to see you again someday… I love you." She trailed off and I heard her crying softly, I really wanted to go and comfort her because regardless of if I didn't know her too well I didn't want her to be upset about anything. I couldn't stop myself from thinking about the boy she was referring to in her speech, whoever he was he was so lucky.
I closed my eyes and forced myself to sleep plagued with thoughts of Eden crying herself to sleep.
