Chapter ten:
(Peter's pov)
I'd fallen into a restless sleep and felt like I was awake every half hour, around three in the morning I'd gotten out of bed and found my way to the kitchen to grab a glass of water, just for something to do, I sat at the table in the kitchen just drinking it for at least fifteen minutes, passing the time away. I'd made it back to the door of my room intending to go in when a blood-curdling scream came from Eden's room, I didn't even think about it when I dashed into her room and saw her thrashing about on her bed, I panicked not knowing what to do.
"Mr Parker, should I alert Captain Rogers?" FRIDAY's voice came from above, I couldn't think straight while listening to Eden screaming.
"Yes and Mr Barnes too, please?" I all but demanded and made my way over to Eden's bed, her eyes shot open suddenly and she was on her feet in seconds looking around like she was anticipating if something was coming next.
"Eden, are you okay?" I asked, taking one closer to her bed. Her eyes snapped to me and I was actually terrified when I realised it wasn't Eden's eyes I was looking at, all the blue had gone and in it's place was a vibrant purple. Almost as quick as she had shot up she moved, I didn't realise what she was doing until her fist was swinging to my face, I knocked it away easily but I wouldn't fight her regardless of what she was doing because I didn't want to hurt her. As quickly as she had swung at me, her other fist made a play but I dodged, she kicked out and caught my stomach knocking me back almost into the wall.
Just as she made a start for me Captain Rogers and Mr Barnes ran into the room, they looked at Eden who's head tilted to the side as if she was assessing them.
"I've seen her do this… it was before she had her powers though. She's inside of a dream right now." Mr Barnes explained to Captain Rogers, "She's probably only stopped because she recognises me as The Winter Soldier." He explained and the look on Captain Rogers face was heart-breaking.
"Prizrak, prosnis'." Mr Barnes switched to what sounded like Russian, Eden didn't like that one bit because she sprung from where she was standing and struck him quicker than I thought possible, he blocked it and pushed her back, she fell backwards and twisted mid-air landing back on her feet, her head snapped up looking more sinister than she had earlier. "Prizrak, ty ne khochesh' igrat' v etu igru." It sounded like a taunt that time.
"Dolzhen li ya podchinit'sya, soldat?" She sneered at him and if that meant anything to him he didn't show it on his face, she struck again but this time Mr Barnes seemed like he was playing along. Eden looked like she was dancing when really she was getting in some decent hits against Mr Barnes, Captain Rogers looked distraught but attempted to restrain Eden to stop her from hurting herself or anyone else. This definitely set something off in her because she began scrambling to get away, she looked terrified, she threw an elbow back into his stomach and when he recoiled away she darted, dodging around me and down the corridor and into the door leading to the staircase.
"Steve, you go to outside and see if she ran that way. I'll go up to the roof and see if she went that way." Mr Barnes told Mr Rogers and he instantly took off running, I looked at Mr Barnes and waited for his instruction.
"What are you waiting for kid? We have this, go back to bed." He barked at me before heading out of the door and up the stairs leading to the roof. I didn't even have time to protest before he was gone. I didn't even think twice about heading up to the roof straight after Mr Barnes, it was minutes before I got to the roof just in time to see Eden dive over the edge of the building.
"EDEN!" Mr Barnes screamed and prepared to jump after her, it was a little too late though because I'd already took a running jump and I'd dived directly after her. Without my mask the air whipped around my face, the temperature of it biting at my skin. I stared straight ahead of me focusing on Eden, she flipped around in the air and I could see even in the darkness the purple in her eyes had disappeared and had been replaced with her beautiful blue eyes.
"PETER! MY POWERS AREN'T WORKING!" She screeched, the wind muffled what she was saying but thanks to my powers I was able to make out what it was that she was saying. I shoved my arms directly at my sides to be able to shoot through the air more quickly, we'd fallen half way down the tower and were hurtling towards the ground rapidly. I neared her after a few seconds and was able to wrap my arm around her and pulled her in so she was against my body and shot a web onto one of the balconies in order to swing us in, Eden's head was tucked into my neck as she clung to me, she appeared terrified of what had occurred.
"Eden are you okay?" I asked carefully, she trembled against me.
"Um… I think so." She shuddered and I subconsciously held her a little tighter as she seemed like she was leaning into the comfort.
This was definitely something I knew that her dad and Mr Barnes wouldn't let go of until they knew what the cause of the freak out actually was… I wouldn't mind finding out myself.
