Chapter Zero
"Digital Encroachment detected in sector 0! All scans indicate threat level d, sir!" a white cat like being reported.
"Are there any available DDF(0) teams in the area Gatomon?" a white knight like being asked.
The Gatomon swept through a series of holographic displays. "Just one Lord Omnimon! QRF Team Sigma! They are the closest to the affected area in particular, All other teams are too far out!" She said.
"Hmm, Convenient," the aforementioned Omnimon commented. "They were on leave in the human world I believe?" He asked Idly.
"Yes sir! It's probably a bit overkill to call them in for something this minor, but they are the only team close enough to respond in time," The Gatomon said.
"Better safe than sorry, Coordinate with local human authorities and have them cordon off the area, then contact Sigma!" Omnimon ordered.
"Right away Sir!," The Gatomon affirmed.
Hey everyone I'm James 'Talon' Eques, I'm 25years old, 210 pounds soaking wet, and in good shape. It's kind of a requirement considering what I do for a living, let's just say it sometimes involves a lot of running. Right now I'm sitting at my favorite burger joint, enjoying an awesome meal with my partners. Let me introduce them.
First up there's Kit, the Renamon, for all intents and purposes she's a bipedal golden fox, she is our strategist and support specialist, she helps coordinate our team. She's a pretty calm individual, and it usually takes a lot to get her riled up, even off the battlefield, she is a technical fighter, what she lacks in straight up fire power, she makes up for in versatility. She's pretty fragile physically though, we've learned that the hard way. De-rezzing(1) isn't a fun process. Let's leave it at that.
Next is Blaze, the Agumon, an orange dinosaur like Digimon, he's our tank, he usually rushes headlong into battle, and takes the fight to the enemy directly, let's just say subtle isn't in his vocabulary. Like I said before, he's our tank he can take a massive beating before being de-rezzed, but usually the enemy has been deleted before then, with his Chrome Digizoit combat harness he's even harder to take down than what's normal for his species
Finally the twins, Kuro and Hikari, a Blackgatomon and a normal Gatomon respectively, through some kind of fluke the two of them ended up hatching from the same digi-egg. The two of them together are our ambush specialist and medic respectively, you'd think being a virus and a vaccine type would cause problems for the two of them, but nope, their teamwork is tight, and it's gotten us out of a fair number of tight spots.
Kuro, lets just say she is direct, she says what she means, and she knows what she wants, coupled with a keen intellect, lets just say you don't want to be on her bad side. Hikari is compassionate, and always willing to stick her neck out for the team, she's courageous to a fault, she also doesn't take crap from anybody, she's also saved our neck numerous times, we'd be dead many times over without her around.
"Ah man! That hit the spot," I groaned out. "It's great to finally get a few days away from HQ," I said.
"Right!," Blaze agreed. "I know what we do is important and all, but we really needed this," he said.
"True, things have been hectic these last few weeks, and there's no signs of it slowing down any time soon," Kit said with a sigh.
"In fact, I think it may be getting worse as time goes by," Hikari said somberly. Kuro just nodded quietly.
"Yeah," I agreed.
'It's true,'I thought. It's been one crisis after another for the past few months. And everyone is on edge, sector patrols have been ramped up massively and it's put major strain on a lot of the rookie teams. We were just lucky that our area was one of the least active in terms of regular Encroachment. Just to clarify, Encroachment is when a digimon tries to force their way into the human world for whatever reason, a lot of times it can result in massive property damage, severe injury, and sometimes death to people caught in encroachment zones, it goes without saying things can get bad.
Suddenly the alert on my Digivice(2) went off catching all our attention. I flipped it open.
"This is Talon, what's up," I said.
"Sigma you have a class d encroachment in your area," The dispatcher Digimon reported. We all stiffened.
"Already?" I asked.
"Unfortunately," you could hear the audible sigh. "I know you're all on leave, but this one's acting strange, we need you to investigate immediately, sorry," she said.
"Understood, can we get the coordinates," I asked with a sigh.
"Of course, again sorry about this, but you were the closest team," the dispatcher says.
"Don't worry about it, It's what we do," I said.
My digivice pinged.
"Alright, Coordinates received. We'll be on scene as soon as possible," I said.
"Good luck Sigma," the dispatcher said. The call ended.
I flipped my digivice closed and groaned. "Well team, looks like leave's cancelled," I said. "Let's get to it,"
"Right!" Kit, Blaze, and the Twins said.
I held my digivice out in front of me. "Team Sigma Digitize!" I spoke clearly. My team glowed brightly and condensed into balls of glowing light, which were then sucked into the digivice. I grabbed my uniform jacket off the chair that I had draped it over and slipped it on. I walked up to the register, paid for our meal and quickly headed outside. Once outside I made my way over to my motorcycle and slotted my digivice into the section where the fuel tank would be on a normal motorcycle. My bike started immediately. I turned on the lights and switched on the siren and sped out of the parking lot.
"Alright Kit you know the drill, guide me in!" I said as I drove through traffic.
"Understood Talon," Kit said over the earphones in my helmet. "It looks like the Encroachment zone is located at the old steel mill," she said.
"Thank god for small mercies," I said in relief, if things went wrong at least no civilians would be around to get hurt.
"Any Information on what to expect?" I asked.
"Not a lot, but looking at the data, it seems this may be a fleeing digimon," Kit said.
"So expect to have an encounter with at least one young digimon, and at least one champion level digimon," I said calmly. There was no use getting worked up in this situation, only a calm head would help.
"Looks like it, Hq has authorized us to use up to ultimate as necessary, and mega as last resort," Kit said.
"They really think Mega level will be necessary," Blaze asked with a shocked tone.
Truthfully I shared his shock. Something must have HQ seriously spooked if their authorizing Mega level against a class d. Mega level digimon were a natural disaster unto themselves, the digimon equivalent to a WMD.
"Something must have HQ seriously spooked to authorize that, even as a last resort," Kuro said.
"Exactly what I was thinking, Kuro," I said.
"The National Guard has the area cordoned off for now," Kit reported "I've spoken with the officer in charge, he's ordered the DFPs(3) deployed, rated for mega level so they should be able to contain things until we arrive," she said.
"Right, let's haul ass though, just to be sure," Blaze said.
"Right," I said. I shifted into high gear and sped towards the EZ.
As I pulled into the EZ I was greeted by the sight of a military checkpoint. I shut my bike down, grabbed my digivice, and made my way over to the checkpoint. I was stopped of course, but once they scanned my digivice they let me through(4). I approached the officer in charge.
"Captain how're things holding up?" I asked.
The aforementioned Captain turned towards me.
"It's been quiet so far, we're just waiting for the other shoe to drop," he said with a grimace. "The DFPs are holding strong, so they should be fine, but Murphy's a bastard at the best of times,"
This time I grimaced. I've had the misfortune of being there when a DFP shattered, to say it wasn't pretty would be an understatement.
"Well I'd better get started," I said. I walked through the DFP.
AN: Welp, here we go with a new story. I kind of have an idea about where I'm going to go with this, but I'm going to need to do a bit of research. I'm flying by the seat of my pants here. Read and review people let me know if this is something you're interested in seeing more of.
0: DDF: Digital Defence Force, one part military force, one part police force, one part expeditionary force. The DDF was created in response to the encroachment of hostile digimon in the early 2000's. Earth's military forces were woefully outgunned and the leaders of the world soon realized that the only way to truly stop a hostile digimon was with another digimon. Led by a joint effort of humans and digimon the DDF protects the people of earth, and the denizens of the digital world from anything that would wish them harm.
1: De-rezzing: It's a form of Pseudo deletion where a digimon is instead of being deleted outright from a fatal blow, is forced back into the form of a digiegg and returned to the digivice. (Think of what happened to angemon in in digimon adventures01
2: Digivice: A Tamer's go to gadget, it acts as a kind of multitool and has a variety of functions including but not limited to a communicator, a storage device for digimon, and an ID
3:DFP: Digital Field Projectors, A set of pylon-like devices that creates a kind of translucent force field that can create a kind of virtual environment in which digimon can safely release their full power. arranged in a square around an area it contains an EZ so that the world outside isn't affected, It's seen much use by the DDF as well as competitively.
