Chapter 0

Part 2

I shuddered at the feeling of passing through the DFP's barrier. It always felt like wading through a wall of ice water. I pulled out a pair of polarized sunglasses from the inner pocket of my jacket and put them on. Before you ask, yes there is a reason I did so. When an EZ is contained within a DFP the digital particles from the EZ materializing bounce around, rebounding off the barriers, the byproduct of this is an uncomfortable amount of light being released into a relatively small area. Early on in the Digital Conflict (0) Tamers (1) learned pretty quickly to bring something to shield their eyes within an EZ or risk being crippled by a lack of eyesight. I was stuck by the eerie silence.

Scanning the area quickly, I noticed multiple areas in which a smaller digimon is able to hide. I pulled out my digivice.

"Team Sigma Realize!" I spoke clearly. Kit, Blaze, and The Twins appeared in a flash of light. Each wearing a set of light armor in the form of a breast plate, shoulder pads, some bracers, and leg and shin guards, each had a headset with a tinted visor to protect their eyesight and attached microphone.

Turning to Kit I asked "Any scents stick out to you?"

She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply through her nose. After a moment she opened her eyes. "I can definitely smell a digimon, but the scent is faint, they're definitely young, probably recently digivolved to in training level, and there's a hint of desperation there, as well as fear, looks like HQ was right. It's running from something," she explained.

"Anything else?" I asked.

"Yes, I picked up the scent of a Tyrannomon and a decent sized pack of Agumon , I think it's the one hunting our runaway," She said. Well Crap.

"Well, at least it won't be boring," Blaze commented. "Looks like these guys need to learn not to mess with someone weaker than them," He says.

In their sector of the digital world younger digimon are to be protected until they can fend for themselves. Its the same with all the digimon of Team Sigma really. Of course there were rumors, of sectors of the digiworld where it was survival of the fittest, virtual no-mons lands. Those sectors, normally called wild sectors, are viewed pretty dimly by the more civilized sectors, with good reason, there is little to no oversight by the sovereigns of those sectors, sovereigns are usually powerful mega level digimon, that govern their sectors of the digiworld. Digimon in those sectors hunt the weaker digimon as prey, and upload the data to become stronger, a process that had long been outlawed by the more civilized sectors, when it was discovered that uploading the data of a digimon was totally unnecessary when one of them spontaneously digivolved after training to defend itself. It was originally thought of as a fluke, but when the digimon experimented and trained with another and the same thing happened again, and again, well you see where this is going hopefully. But anyways back to the present.

"Kuro, I need you to scout the area, look for anything out of the ordinary, something's off with this situation," I ordered.

"Right!" Kuro turned and sped off towards a nearby building and climbed up the side, disappearing over the top.

After a minute Hikari spoke softly "I hope Kuro will be alright, she can handle a single Tyrannomon easily, but a pack of Agumon can be anywhere between ten and twenty members, If they join in as well…" She let the comment trail off.

"Yeah, but Kuro's smart," Blaze said confidently "And rather vicious, when she wants to be, she can handle herself until we show up," he adds in after thought.

"Blaze is right," Kit says. "Kuro will be fine, she won't recklessly charge into a dangerous situation without a plan, besides we're authorized to digivolve,"

"Well there's no sight of them for now," I said "Let's find a more defensible position and hang tight until Kuro reports in,"

"Right," The three of them respond. We walked off to find a safer area.

-Kuro-

Sticking to the rooftops of the area was a pretty easy feat, Kuro found. It gave her a good vantage point of her surroundings, and made it nearly impossible for someone to sneak up on her. A lot of the mill was in disrepair though, so she needed to watch her step as she vaulted across a gap between a pair of buildings.

Mills like the one she was in had started being phased out in favor of the more advanced ones that were designed by humans and digimon working together, heck a lot of things were changed in this sector with the cooperation of humans and digimon. Most shocking of all, a kind of worldwide peace, oh sure there was still trouble from time to time, but the prospect of facing down an angry mega level digimon kept the worst of the troublemakers at bay. There's a pretty scary story behind that, but let's not get into it.

Kuro quickly came to the edge of a building looking over a large open area. Taking stock of the situation, she quickly spotted Tyrannomon in the center barking orders to the surrounding Agumon. One of the Agumon said something that the Tyrannomon didn't like and was deleted on the spot, and its data uploaded. The other Agumon in the area cowered in fear. Kuro felt the hairs of her back bristle due to her anger.

Kuro pressed a button on her headset.

"This is Kuro reporting," she said trying to mask her anger.

"I read you Kuro, what's up," James' voice answered.

"Eyes on the Tyrannomon and what looks at first glance to be at least thirty plus Agumon," Kuro said.

"And our runaway?" James asked.

"Nothing yet, I'm going to move on and start checking the interiors," She said.

"Understood, what can you tell us about the opposition so far," He asked.

"They're obviously from one of the wild sectors," Kuro observed.

"What makes you think so," James asked.

"I just watched the Tyrannomon delete and load the data of an Agumon,," Kuro said with a sigh. "In the civil sectors like ours, not even the worst of us would load the data of some one we deleted, It's just not done, we let it go to be reborn"

"Alright, watch yourself then. Others and I have holed up in an office near where we entered," James said. "Return with the runaway as soon as possible, so we can make a plan"

"Understood," Kuro replied.
