WinterRose61: It literally is a whale and a raft and I laugh about it every time myself! Years of betrayal planning and that's the ship Teach chooses, I have no idea where they even sleep or cook or anything, there's no cabin on it and the tree trunks seem too small. But... oh well, at least the traitor can't get too comfortable on his own ship...
I don't know if I'll still be able to write a chase (if I do i'll indeed still post it as a bonus one shot), but I did decide to add to the chapter what I already had! And In the end I do think it makes the flow of the story go better and makes the jump between events seem a bit less big, so thanks! :D
Wouldn't have posted it without your comment, I hope you enjoy, even if it isn't literally the chase in the end.
I have two things to say!
1. LAST CHAPTER! -Is what I was originally gonne say here... But it won't be haha. More info in the notes at the end.
2. I was planning on just starting this chapter with Ace being back on the ship, but reading WinterRose61's comment made me go like "I should give them what I got". So everyone, thank WinterRose61 for the double as long chapter than usual! (If u wish to skip, and read from when Ace is back, scroll until you see "!TIMESKIP!" +/- halfway into the chapter.)
Marco
Finally, Finally! This was it! Thanks to the recent storm they had been able to gain in on that bastard Teach. The Moby being far more prepared and unbothered by a storm then that ugly raft-ship* of theirs. This was their chance, they could… no, they WILL get Ace back.
Marco had been having the urge to fly off the moment he heard the Blackbeard pirates were still docked offshore at the island, all of their sails still furled up to protect them from the harsh winds. His Alpha was urging him to go too, to get their Omega back, every second he had to wait, every minute he couldn't hold his mate close again was too long.
But Marco knew to stay reasonable, and kept still, even if he was more nervous than usual, his clear poker face not able to disguise it. Teach was a crafty bastard, really living up to the image the marines painted off pirates. Useless killing. Sowing disarray. Backstabbing and playing dirty. He didn't even know how this person had been his brother at one point. And while he really, really just wanted to go and gauge that bastard's eyes out so that he could never even lay eyes on his mate, he knew attacking by himself could potentially endanger his mate, endanger Ace.
But this was it, even if they noticed them now, they wouldn't have the time to prepare their ship and get away. And if they tried, Marco will personally fly over and rip every single one of their sails to shreds.
Marco had wanted to be the one to get Ace, but they were sure that Teach would be keeping tabs on Marco himself, not only because he is Ace's mate, but also because he is still the second in command in the ship and thus the biggest threat after Pops. Instead, they send one of the newer recruits. Not completely unknown to Teach, that would call his attention too, but someone that had still joined in the time Teach was their 'Brother' but who had only shown his capabilities after he left. In Teaches eyes, this person was still a newbie learning the ropes, while in reality he was a natural at stealth, perfect for retrieving Ace.
So for now Marco and the others were creating chaos on the deck, to win time and to make sure no one followed inside, all the while keeping a close eye on the entrance to the ship.
After was seemed like ages, the entrance door slowly opened. With his extra sharp hearing, -Thx Phoenix-, he instantly caught onto the creaking of the door, having been focused on it. His heart leaped in his chest seeing their guy come out while carrying another person.
Making himself explode with fire, shocking and blinding everyone around, he flew over to his mate. His Alpha immediately cooing in sadness and worry upon seeing Ace. He was so pale and thin, the thin sheet covering him not even helping to hide his unhealthy look. And … why is his neck purple!? -HE WILL KILL THAT BAST-
"Son."
Even over the sound of clashing of swords, gunshots and screams, he heard his Pops say that one word, calling his attention back to his job. He would love to rip that bastard to shreds, but he was sure the others would do so in his stead. His job now is to get Ace inside to the safety of the Moby and into the infirmary to get patched up.
Picking their guy up with by his shoulder he flew up and over the battle, fast and high enough so nothing could hit them. It was difficult to carry two people, but with his arms transforming into wings and Ace not able to grab onto him, there was no way for Marco to carry Ace himself, and he was not letting his injured mate dangle in his talons thank you very much. So, Izou crafted a special vest for their guy to wear, with straps thick enough for Marco to grab with his talons and able to carry at least 2 peoples worth of weight. To fix the danger of the vest slipping off, Izou literally sewed the guy in it before battle so it couldn't slip over his head. He needed to remember to tank everyone after this. For now he was focusing on avoiding anything shot at them and getting inside. Passing Pops he gave a screech of success before diving into a specially made hatch that instantly led them to the infirmary.
Once inside he heard his Pops announcing to end the battle. Now that Ace was safe, there was no need to bother with that traitor anymore. Pops will order his brothers to return to ship, before releasing the tsunami he had already created, but was keeping at bay with his powers. They will make sure he is gone after this, and the fruit he wanted so much will be the reason of his end. (A/N: ya know, not able to swim + too far from shore for his own crew to even drag him there)
For now though, he wasn't worried anymore about what was going on outside, they could handle themself, he was now focused on Bay and her team surrounding Ace his bed, poking and prodding and sticking who knows what into him to keep him alive. Bay had tried to get Marco out of the infirmary, but his Alpha had instantly lashed out and Marco wasn't going to stop him right now either. They wouldn't leave their Omega alone, never again.
!TIMESKIP!
Marco
It's almost been a year since we were able to rescue Ace from Teach his grasps, 10 months to be precise.
No one knows what happened while he was there, Ace doesn't speak about it, -he doesn't speak a lot anymore...-. Either way, no one knows for sure what went on in the depths of that ship.
But there were multiple lacerations, bruises, marks, … Luckily most didn't scar and healed up nicely, at least physically there wasn't too much lasting damage. -Mentally however...-
With the amount of people onboard the Moby, conclusions and rumours of what may have happened quickly circulated throughout the ship after his return. Ace never confirming or denying any of them, though occasionally flinching when hearing certain details.
The commanders all tried their best to shush them quickly, even if they themselves were also curious, it wouldn't help Ace right now to hear whispers all around him all the time.
It took up to 3 months for Ace to even dare to leave his room, and even then he only went out when Marco or Pops were with him. If anyone in their area made a too sudden movement, or simply walked too close to Ace, he would disappear in a wisp of flames, not to be seen again for the rest of the day. The only person that would come close was Thatch. Ace didn't dare to be alone with the chef, but he was the only person onboard besides Pops and Marco from who Ace didn't run away.
Marco's reasoning being that Ace had seen that Thatch was wounded the night he got kidnapped and so he is happy to know and see that the man is alive, this feeling probably taking over the need to run and hide. No matter the reason though, Marco was glad, because for him, this was a sign that maybe Ace could let other get close to with time.
Even with the state Ace was in, Marco was overjoyed that Ace still came close to him, allowed for Marco to be close to him. While before Ace loved to cuddle and give Marco small kisses throughout the day, jump on his back and play jokes, now... he seemed to fear all forms of affection.
Even when Ace had nightmares, which was something that happened too often for his taste, he didn't allow for Marco to wrap his arms around him. But at the same time Ace also didn't want to be alone, it was a very tricky and difficult situation.
Marco always tried his hardest to comfort Ace, to show him that he is home, that he is safe. Using his pheromones to try and sooth Ace was no option, the sudden increase of Alpha pheromones freaked Ace out, even if they were bonded. So instead, he uses his blue flames as proof that he was no longer trapped in that dark cell, but was instead close to his mate, in a safe environment.
It was very painful to watch, especially if Ace wasn't registering anything around him, being blind to even Marco's brightest of flames. Marco so wished to take a hold of Ace, hold him close and tell him he's here for him, that he will protect him, love him. But he knew that if he touched Ace in this state, it would only worsen the situation. His Alpha kept crying out for their Omega, telling Marco to do more, to help their mate, but nothing could be done and it brought tears to his eyes knowing there really was nothing he could do to protect his mate from his own nightmares. There was no other option then to wait, to hopefully grab his attention with his flames so the nightmare would end quicker, but that was it.
The least he could do, and would always do, was to stay and watch over Ace, no matter how difficult, no matter how heart-breaking, he will be there, and if at one point he was allowed closed he would be there within a heartbeat.
Close too 5 months after the rescue there was a small change. Ace still had nightmares, but now he would very slowly inch closer and closer to Marco. With each passing day the distance between them would decrease, even if it was by fractions. At one point Ace was so close to Marco their shoulder touched! Marco and his Alpha were overjoyed, almost tearing up the first time they felt Ace's warmth literally though him, but they remembered to tread carefully and not push Ace, in fear of him closing off again.
Slowly, very slowly they tried to release their pheromones, to test the waters, just a small bit, and… Ace didn't reject it, he didn't flinch away or become scared! It was wonderful!
This was now the usual ritual, Ace sitting right next to, even leaning against Marco while he was trapped in his own mind, allowing Marco to try and sooth him.
After a while Marco tried to go a step further and carefully started to try things like putting a hand on his back, when that worked the next step was to rub circles on Ace's back with said hand. At the first hint of Ace tensing up Marco would stop, not wanting to trigger a setback.
As a coincidence a lot of days sometimes went in between being able to go a step further, but that was okay, Marco was happy with each and every touch he could.
At one point he seemed to have reached the limit for a while, but it was good for now. Ace allowed for Marco to put his arms around him, to hug him, he even allowed for him to give a kiss on his forehead. Ace never returned any affection, didn't hug Marco back or responded to a kiss, he did however always clutch to Marco's cloths or arm. It wasn't perfect, but Marco was happy, so extremely happy that Ace allowed for this, that once again he could be closer to his mate, even if it was just a bit.
Now, 10 months later, Ace is still not okay. On a good day, Marco would try and tell himself that Ace was getting better, but he knew, deep down he knew, that he was only fooling himself. While Ace had started being okay with being around more members, talked to some more of the commanders -If you can see a basic hello and one-word-replies as talking- and ate with them in the mess hall. This all still needed to happen in Marco's or Pop's presence for Ace to not hide away, but it was something.
Ace had even started accepting Marco's hugs when not stuck in a nightmare, seeming to be glad when Marco was affectionate, -He even returned them every now and then!-. But... something important was missing. A sound. Something Marco has been yearning for to hear, something he had taken for granted before. A sound he had thought he would hear for the rest of his life. Hearing it would have been, no, will be a sign of Ace getting better. Sadly, up until this day, he has not once been able to hear that rumbling sound again.
He fears greatly, that Ace, will never purr again.
Now... well... this was supposed to be the ending, Ace being broken for life. But somewhere in this month I started taking pity on Ace and decided to make an extra chapter to kind of make the ending a bit more hopeful.
Sooooooooooo surprise! There will be a chapter 6, next Monday, in which it will all kind of get better (, feel free to not read it if you want Ace to suffer forever, Rip Ace).
*Ugly raft-ship: C'mon, have you all looked at Teach his ship?! It's not a ship, it's a glorified raft, they don't even have a cabin on top and even if they have rooms in the tree trunks, go look at a picture of the raft, they will barely be able to stand in it. I just can't with their ship, when they chased Luffy there's even two people paddling their ship with oars (Ch. 236 of the manga), it's pathetic, how is this dude able to cause chaos!?
