Chapter 12: Goals in the Night

[Outside Los Santos]

On an island a distance away from Cape Catfish lay the home base of the Seraphites, Haven Island. At the moment, their lead prophet…Yara's mother was less than pleased with the current state of things.

"What do you mean they were all killed?!" She roared.

"Mother Fia, we only have one survivor…he was in the bathroom. From what he heard, two people came and interfered with the capture of Yara…Lily…was killed by one of ours." One of the Seraphites said.

"It is of no consequence. Lily is in a better place, but there's still the matter of God's servants being killed by a pair of infidels and my apostate daughter on the run." Mother Fia said as the second lead prophet entered the room. "Mother Miranda, I hope you bring good news."

"Aside from getting that mess covered up, no." Mother Miranda said, motioning for all to leave save for Fia. "There is a rumor coming from the seers that there is an Espilonist among us."

"So we have any suspects?" Mother Fia asked.

"They're claiming either the Beneviento family, the apostate Zoe Baker, or our high-ranking soldier…Emily." Mother Miranda said as the other mother looked unsure.

"Emily's loyalty is beyond measure. Zoe is unlikely to be an Espilonist…her uncle less so. Plus, attempts to seek them out have only shown she's nowhere in Los Santos…let alone the country. Leaving the Benevientos. We should call the Ashford twins….I want a pair of eyes on the family." Mother Fia said.

They failed to recognize the possibility that their 'traitor' was right under their noses and was listening in before leaving. In Haven's woods, one of the 'seers' was walking through the woods before stopping to get a cell phone from under her robes before making a call.

"Yes, they don't suspect me, but they do suspect the Benevientos."

"Excellent, Hanare. Continue to keep a low profile, we're still scanning over the island to plan our future attack. We need to find out all the information we can get to eliminate them."

"Of course, J" Hanare said. "What of the Baker girl and the runaway daughter?"

"Leave them. Cris's orders. The Baker girl's uncle has agreed to hand over any information on the Seraphites in exchange for funds to leave the country. As for the runaway, she's to be left alone…she's of no enemy to us." J remarked. "Good luck, kifflom…and stay safe."

J hung up before Hanare made her move back to the village.

[Los Santos]

Yugito found herself wishing for the day that she could put a bullet in Akahoshi's head. Doing his unit's dirty work was beyond taxing on herself. For now, she was out on patrol through Daviss tonight and she spied what appeared to be someone soliciting a prostitute in. In the mood for an easy arrest, she turned on the headlights to her VCPD Cheetah before pulling over.

"Looks like we have troub-"

"Fuck off, pig. Nothing's going on here…I was just literally giving this girl directions." The streetwalker said with a glare.

Yugito turned to the other person to clearly see that the person was female. Said girl was glaring at her.

"You denying someone their right to ask questions? People can't ask where the public library is?" The streetwalker said heatedly.

"Sorry about that." Yugito sheepishly said as she got back in her car. "And if it's the Davis Public Library….it's on Davis Avenue."

Yugito drove away, and Yara breathed a sigh of relief.

"Thanks, miss." Yara said, relieved.

"I swear these cops are so quick to arrest people to fill their damn quotas. At least she backed up…and the library is on Davis Avenue."

Yara nodded and went on her way. What the prostitute did not know was Yara was carrying a quarter ounce of weed for the librarian there. The librarian was happy to get her weed, and Yara got a library card to put to use.

[Los Santos]

South Mo Milton Drive. She was quite glad to be back at her apartment after a long day. She was walking up to her apartment door only to hear her phone ring. She looked to see it was Niko as she entered her apartment.

"Niko. What's up, man?" Isaribi said, answering her phone.

"Me and Roman made it safely to LS along with Brian and his wife." Niko said as Isaribi plopped on her couch. "I'll text you where you can find us."

"Naruto'll be happy to hear of your arrival. Some crazy shit's happened…something I probably should tell you…maybe not over the phone. You still got that laptop with you?" Isaribi remarked.

The two got to calling each other via a video chat service.

"About what I wanted to tell you…Naruto and I got…protagonist powers. The same…like yours." Isaribi said as Niko looked surprised. "How is a pretty insane story…"

"The kind no one can believe." Niko said.

"Yeah, all I can say is the Espilonists might not exactly be completely crazy. I would rather not go into too much detail on that, but I can say that I got the 'power' in fact of being around you, Johnny, and Luis." Isaribi explained.

"And they're 'protagonists' like me…like you now." Niko said warily.

"Yeah, there's no doubt. In Naruto's case, it's more insane. Maybe I should tell you what happened…" Isaribi said before telling Niko what happened.

Niko took a breath.

"Look on the bright side, you walked away with your life intact instead of dying." Niko said as Isaribi laughed.

"You're right, but I need some sleep. Early day tomorrow. Good night, Niko." Isaribi said as Niko closed the chat.

Isaribi put her laptop off and shuffled off to bed. At the Tahitan, Yara was arriving back at the building to see Naruto out in the courtyard talking to Fu.

"Yara? What are you doing out this late?" Naruto remarked.

"I was at the library doing a simple run for Lamar…and did some reading." Yara said heading up the stairs.

"She's cute. How did you meet her?" Fu asked. "And have you gotten in her pants?"

Naruto sputtered before regaining his composure.

"So you have?"

"I haven't." Naruto remarked.

"Would you fuck her if she offered?" Fu asked.

He turned his eye towards Yara as she went inside. Before Fu could comment, his phone rang with a call from Isaribi before he answered.

"Isa." Naruto remarked heading up to his own apartment.

"Naruto, we may need to hold off on the operation. I'll explain in the morning…come over to my apartment at South Milton Drive. Your turn to buy breakfast, and bring Yara with you." She said before hanging up.

Naruto put his phone away and headed inside wondering what Isaribi got them into this time. Fu was annoyed he dodged her other question.
