Chapter 2

One week, one week was all it had taken Naruto to sow absolute discord and anarchy amongst Konoha's populace and its ninja force. It was moments like this that Sarutobi was reminded of his dulling mental acuity, that even he was susceptible to the ravages of time and his mind was starting to go. He had failed to see a possible threat behind the looming shadow that was the Nine-tails and the chaos it could unleash if it was freed. A reminder of how short sighted he had been when dealing with Naruto's 'change'.

Sarutobi sigh to himself as looked out at his beloved village for the window in his office. They had learned a great many things after more test were conducted and the boy himself was questioned. His bandaged arm was not the original he was born with. There seemed to be no discernible place where the strange wrappings ended and his skin started at his shoulder or on the area they covered of his face. He also seemed to be able to see through the ones on his face as he did not have the lack of visual range many who suffered from the loss of an eye had. This and many other discoveries were concerning but none so much as the revelation that Naruto now served a supposed goddess named Jashin.

How had he missed that he wondered to himself. He had known about the Cult of Jashin but had failed to make the connection when observing her mark upon Naruto's right arm. That was in the past now he mused, as he had much more prevalent problems concerning the boy. While he seemed to be no threat to the villagers at the current moment, thought that could rapidly change given the circumstances, no he was more concerned with the affects he was having on some of his more eccentric ninja. Naruto had never shown up to the hospital the day after he was asked to, instead he was found roaming around the hall of the I&T department. No one was sure how he had gotten in but Sarutobi honestly wasn't surprised. The boy always did have a knack for sneaking around.

No what was worrying was how Naruto seemed to draw strength and pleasure from the suffering of the inmates around him. More so was his how his presence had seemed to draw some of the interrogators to him, none more so that Anko Mitarashi. Even Ibiki Morino, head of the department and known for his lack of love for children, seemed to have grown a soft spot for the child. If the entity know as Jashin was real it seemed to have a way of influencing those around the boy.

This was very much enough to put the aged leader on high alert and considering confining the boy until they could decern the full effect this 'goddess' had on the area around Naruto. Again, he was drawn back to how age had changed him. He had grown soft, tired in his old age and honestly his personal feeling had played heavily into letting the boy stay free. It didn't matter how Naruto had insisted that Jashin was 'The nicest and most beautiful person ever', it was how he saw Naruto as his own flesh and blood that clouded his judgement. As wise as he was, as readily as he saw the flaw in his own thinking process, he just could bring himself to bring any further suffering to the boy. Not when he had failed him so much already.

He had been given a vary blunt recounting on the events that had transpired when Naruto was attacked and he was feeling more that a little grateful to this 'Jashin' for not only saving him but also allowing him to still be able to pursue his dream of becoming a ninja in Konoha. After all those crippled by the loss of a limb weren't allowed in to the Academy.

He felt himself sigh again as his eyes were drawn to the gray-haired child in question, seen animatedly talking with Anko as they walked down a street Sarutobi knew lead to the interrogator's favorite dango stand. The truly genuine smile on Anko's face had reminded him of the few positives this whole situation had brought about. Whether on his own or through some manipulations of the 'goddess' those that had grown close to Naruto seemed to drastically improve in both mood and mental stability. He had read a recent report form Anko's therapist that highlighted how she no longer suffered from nightmares or crushing depression but instead seemed to make an almost shocking recovery. He was skeptical of course on how much was truly a 'recovery' and not caused by the new 'religious' figure that had descended on his village but if age taught him one thing, it was take your victories where you could.

Honestly, he was entertaining the idea of just letting Naruto spread his new 'religion' in the ninja ranks. Fully checked and controlled of course. He would always be on the look out for some great deception or plot this new entity might have, it was just who he was but it there proved to be none he mused on how much a boon this could be. He had heard stories of the terrible might and frightening powers the Cult of Jashin could bring to bear if pushed and as much as many toted Konoha as the 'gentle giant' he knew better. What he allowed his shadowed former teammate to get up to 'under his nose' made no copulations on if he was in fact an evil man in his own way. The suffering both directly and indirectly caused by his village that he turned a blind eye to was very much blood on his hands. Yes, if this 'Jashin' proved to strengthen the military might of the great tree then he could allow a few more eccentricities in his ninja force. Given that the more dark and bloody aspects were kept to those outside his village then really this could be a win-win. Though he made no assumptions that he could control or manipulate this mysterious entity, and if it really was a goddess well then was there much he could do to stop her desires. No, no he supposed not, all he could really do was watch and try to minimized the damage where he could.

Though one thing he planed for sure was that Naruto would attend the Academy, and that when he became a ninja, he would bring true terror to the enemies of the leaf.

A few years had passed since the Hokage's questionable decision to leave Naruto to his own devices and as he was once again looking out on his village from his office, he thought back on how much things had changed. The Village Hidden in the Leaves was still as 'peaceful' as it always was, at least to those looking in from the outside. To those on the inside things had very much changed. There was no longer an oppressive animosity when a bright young blond walked the street. Now when the gray-haired counterpart passed by, he was meet with a forced politeness of one who felt fear in his presence. The ninja force had just accepted that weird shit happened in their world on the regular and this was just one more thing to chalk up to that.

Truly the Cult of Jashin was confined to a small number of his force, at least those that show openly that they worshiped the goddess. The rest when with a policy of quiet acceptance. Honestly if the Hokage wasn't doing anything about it what was there to worry about. Sarutobi had also concede that Jashin was in fact real and was very much a presence in Konoha. It was the only explanation for some of the more outlandish things Naruto was capable of or the strange things that her followers could do.

Now was not the time for that however, as it had come to enroll Naruto in the academy and as he had apparently decided not to come to his office as asked Sarutobi would have to make the trip to him. Honestly, young teens where so rebellious. At least he had a good idea of where he would be.

A young purple haired kunoichi, clad in a beige trench coat and not much else, strutted down her favorite street to her favorite dango stand with her favorite person riding on her shoulders.

"What do you think the Old Man wanted to talk about?" a young teen question from her shoulders.

"Dunno Naru-kun" she mused as she ignored how people shuffled out of her way, well hers and Naruto's she supposed.

"Probably some more test or who Jashi-Chan has 'sunk her claws' into now" Naruto air quoted what he had heard whispered about his goddess when they thought he was listening.

"Nah, if that was the case, he would have just sent that old medic hag to drag you off" Anko retorted, no really liking when the senior medic 'kidnapped' her Naru-Kun when they were hanging out.

"Ugh, fucking hate when she does her snatch-and-grab shit" he groused out.

"It's kinda your fault" the interrogator conceded "You do make a point of not going to your appointments"

"Hey! Whose side are you on?!" he accused.

"The side of dango" que the check.

"I'm telling Jashi-Chan" Naruto huffed out as he laid his chin on the top of his companion's head.

"Hey, hey I buying today so cheer up" Anko laughed.

Naruto just puffed out some air but remained quiet as the approached the food vendor and sat at 'their table'. A waitress quickly scampered over to take their order. Once complete and she turned away the duo faced back to each other across the table only to notice the Hokage seated next to them.

"GAH!" Naruto hopped back with a start as Anko started snickering at him "What the fuck ya old bastard!?"

"Good afternoon Naruto, Anko" he greeted with a warm smile.

"Don't give me that shit" Naruto accused as he retook his seat "Why do you always do that?"

"Well if you had come to my office like I had ask I wouldn't have to take a late lunch to come see you, would I?" the old ninja asked pleasantly.

"That's not what I mean" Naruto huffed in exasperation at the old man's antiques.

"You really shouldn't blow off a meeting with the Hokage Naruto" he gently admonished.

Naruto for his part only grumbled under his breath about how he was a mighty avatar and could do what he wanted.

"Yes, yes my mistake mister 'mighty avatar" the Hokage quipped mockingly, they both knew that while he was practically indestructible, he could still be bested by most chunin.

His current powers only allowed to weather all forms of harm and heightened his physical prowess, they did not prevent the vastly stronger jonin from hold his head in a bucket of water until he tired of being drowned and gave up. Jashin had warned him not to pick fight with the ninja of this world until she gained more of a hold in this world and he grew stronger as a result.

"Petulant teenage ramblings aside" Sarutobi waved him off "I hear to talk to you about your enrollment into the Academy"

Quicker than most could catch, Anko had leapt across the table and was now seat in Naruto's previous seat hold the avatar tightly to her chest.

"No!" she called loudly "You're not take my Naru-kun to stick him with a bunch of snot nosed brats for the next four years"

"Calm yourself Anko" the Hokage placated "I'm not 'taking' him from you"

"What's the point?" Naruto asked "I can't do mortal jutsu anyway"

This was a fair point. One of the more drastic changes was to Naruto's chakra, it simply didn't function in a way that allowed him to use 'mortal' jutsu. Though Jashin had told him that the powers he would eventually be able be able to bring upon his enemies more than made up for this.

"I am well aware Naruto, however it is important that you learn of your fellow genin will be capable and start to form bonds with your generation" he explained calmly.

"Nah those clan kids are stuck up assholes and civilians are stupid" Naruto crossed his arms over the pair that were currently crushing his rid cage.

"Your feelings on your classmates are besides the point, you will have to attend the academy if you wish to become a ninja Naruto" truth be told he really didn't have a choice but it would be easier if it seemed that Naruto had made the choice on his own.

"Fine whatever" the boy conceded before whispering under his breath "nosy old fuck"

"And when he graduates you will be his ninja sensei Anko" Sarutobi continued like he hadn't heard Naruto before continuing seeing Anko about to interject "You will only have Naruto on your team"

That had shut the kunoichi up. Well played old man. She seemed to consider for a time before asking the only real question she had.

"What kinda missions would we take on, cause I aint doing that D-rank shit" she spat out D-rank like it was poison.

"In the beginning you will only be attached to the new genin teams when they take on C-rank and above missions" he began "After they either make chunin or are experienced enough you will be free to take on what ever missions you see fit"

A sour look mad its way on to Anko's face as a thought crossed her mind.

"So, you want Naruto to be a body guard for the clan brats" he hissed lightly.

"Not just the clan children but yes the idea is to have Naruto help protect the future generation of leaf ninja" the Hokage admitted freely.

"that's crap but if it gets me on a team with just Naru-Kun I guess it's okay" Anko accepted.

"I wasn't asking you but it's good that you accept" Sarutobi brushed her off.

Anko scowled but knew better than to argue with the Hokage. Naruto however didn't seem sold on the idea.

"You won't be required to take any of the test or really participate in the course Naruto" he pressed further to get the boy to agree freely "You will only be required to attend each day so that the other children can get used to your 'presence"

The word presence had an assortment of meanings not lost on either of the dango munching duo. Naruto signed before nodding his acceptance.

"An excellent choice my boy class start Monday, here is the address and class room you will be attending" Sarutobi passed a scroll to the young avatar "The instructor will be informed to always you a greater range of 'freedoms' but do try to behave"

The Hokage knew he wouldn't and expected that Anko would spend a lot of time disrupting the students but it was an easy price to pay for all that was again from this arrange me. With his business concluded he left in a simple puff of smoke.

"Meddling old monkey" Naruto cursed "this is gonna suck"

"Yeah but at least you will get to be a ninja and hang out with me more" Anko piped up with a smile.

"Ibiki is gonna be pissed" Naruto shot back.

"Oh…oh, fuck I completely forgot about him" the purple haired woman frown in seeming defeat.

As the duo finished their dango, one still in the others lap, they thought on all the shit this was going to cause in the I&T.

\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/\\/

Monday came and the new academy class had started its first few hours normally. Iruka had begun to think that he was miss informed on exactly who was supposed to attend before a light thumping caught his attention. It seemed to be growing louder and approaching from down the hall that lead to his classroom. He had a sinking feeling he knew what was coming but prayed to the Log that he was wrong. Suddenly the thumping of assumedly heavy footsteps stop right in front of the classroom door before it was suddenly kicked off its hinges startling the whole class, Iruka included.

Standing there, looking like he had just gone five rounds with a lawn mower was Naruto. He was covered in blood and his clothing was more like strips of cloth that had seen better days. Naruto had a tired grin on his face as if after some long battle he had finally achieved a hard fought victory.

"Yo teach I'm here" he called lazily looking at the scared chunin.

"Um…. Well yes welcome Naruto, you are a bit late though" he informed still slightly stunned at the series of events.

"The fuck I'm late, the Hokage only said that I had to attend everyday not when I had to be here" Naruto shot back matter-of-factly "Plus I'd like to see you escape Ibiki's claws when he is throwing a temper tantrum"

Iruka was unsure of what was more world shattering, that Naruto had survived and upset Ibiki or that Ibiki had thrown a 'temper tantrum'. With silence his only answer Naruto walked into the room and started walking to find a seat before he paused mid step and nodded to himself as if listening to a voice only he could hear. He made his was to the second row from the last and stared at a pink haired waist of air before he bearded his sharp teeth is a snarl and told her to fuck off. The girl for her part quickly moved to sit by a platinum blond leave her seat for the now smiling boy to take. He turned towards the brooding boy besides him with a wide smile.

"Hey Sasuke you ever hear of Jashin?" he asked in a light tone but for some reason everyone in the room had a shiver run up their spines.

Sasuke for his part was more confused on what a 'Jashin' was then how this weirdo knew his name.

So began a new academy year that was filled with the special kind of chaos and madness that only Jashin's young avatar could bring about.
