CHAPTER 52
When Mayhem Meets Keyblade….

Sora charged down the stairs the second he had burst through the doors of the castle. His heart was racing, his breath coming in short blasts. The Keyblade remained in his hands, clutched tightly between his fingers. Behind him, Donald, Goofy, Launchpad, Amemi, and Indigo followed with their corresponding weapons at the ready. Both Dilan and Aeleus were busy guarding the entrance and did not pay the group any mind.

At the base of the steps lay a small horde of Heartless trying to sneak up the stones. With a few quick swings of his Keyblade, Sora sliced a gap through them. Donald zapped a few more with his Thundara magic. Goofy smashed through the rest with his shield, allowing Launchpad, Amemi, and Indigo to take out the last three Shadow Heartless with their ranged attacks.

Sora had to admit, his team was a rather well-oiled machine. He primarily focused on swift slice-and-dice attacks. Donald heavily used his magic for both taking out enemies and kept some in reserve for any needed healing spells. Goofy bashed his way through hordes of enemies at a time, smashing them aside and clearing paths for the others to attack without fearing being blindsided. Launchpad's weapon fired bullets that unleashed smoke and gas capable of confusing, poisoning, and even blinding Heartless, Nobodies, and other opponents making them easier to take out without the constant worry of counterattacks. Amemi's ranged moves via her slingshot could remove scattered enemies that had strayed from the rest of the horde. Indigo's Light spells and Keyblade were best suited for ranged attacks from above, allowing Sora and the others to not concern themselves about an aerial strike. Some Heartless loved to jump and attack from above whenever they sensed an opening. Yes. They seemed to compliment one another quiet well.

Now if only they had someone who could venture into the ground to defeat the burrowing enemies…. Sora leapt to one side to avoid such an attack from a Neoshadow Heartless.

Before long, the six friends arrived in the town's central plaza. The site was still under heavy construction with only the markers and gridlines planted into the ground indicating where the streets and lots would be situated once finished. All the machinery was still, the workers having retreated to their metal storage trailers to avoid the onslaught of Heartless. All that remained were six extra-large Large Body Heartless.

The sight of the enormous enemies caught Sora off-guard. How had these seemingly big Heartless grown to such a massive size? Before he had the opportunity to think about it, the six monsters walked into one another and merged to form one gigantic Heartless with twelve harms, two giant feet, and one extra-huge head. The front of the creature was round like the traditional Large Body Heartless, but this time it was covered in armor plating.

"Let's get 'em!" Sora announced.

His teammates all nodded in agreement. They dashed about the area, swerving this way and that to attack the massive opponent. Each time one of them struck the creature from behind, the Heartless turned and swung its arms to counter the attack. Still, Sora, Donald, Goofy, Launchpad, Amemi, and Indigo kept moving about, dodging the Heartless's movements and proceeding to get in a hit or two here and there.

After a few minutes, the Giga Body Heartless crashed to the ground and released a captive heart as it vanished from view. Sora and the others stopped for a moment to catch their breath. "Glad that's settled," the spikey, brown-haired youth declared. "But we should keep moving. Leon needs us."

He turned and started to head to the left.

"Sora!" Amemi called to her brother. He slid to a stop. She pointed to the right. "The construction yard is the other way."

Sora rubbed the back of his head. "Right! I knew that."

"Same old Sora," Donald muttered.

"A-Hyuck!" Goofy chucked.

Launchpad shrugged. "My name isn't 'Jay', but whatever you say."

Indigo had to smile. "This is getting to be very silly."

They all hurried down the marked path ahead. After a few more minutes — and a few more groups of Heartless — Sora and his team found themselves at a rather large storage facility filled with unused construction machinery, supplies, and equipment, and a three-vehicle maintenance garage. The whole yard was surrounded by a metal fence. A few metal trailers were set to one side of the lot. Leon and Yuffie were busy taking on a small group of Neoshadows, Large Bodies, and Air Soldier Heartless while Sora's team came into the site.

"We'll help!" Sora proclaimed.

"Perfect timing," Yuffie called. She pointed into the sky. A handful of large Wyvern Heartless were circling overhead. "Can you do something about them?"

Sora turned to Indigo. "I wish we could all fly, but you might have to take the lead right now."

Indigo nodded in acknowledgement. "I understand," she jumped into the air and let her wings carry her up to the Heartless. The enemies instantly took notice and swooped in low to attack. The angel slashed her Keyblade through a couple of them and then proceeded to use Light magic to knock down one more. The rest zoomed to the ground to attack Sora and the others.

Sora was not wasting a second. He hurled his Keyblade into the air. The blade smashed its way through a few Heartless before returning to his hand. He gave Indigo a thumbs-up. The angel smiled in return. She descended to the ground so gracefully, it seemed to be something straight out of a dream.

Now they whirled their attention to Leon and Yuffie. The pair swung their gunblade and shuriken simultaneously, striking down the last Neoshadow Heartless and finishing off the group once and for all. Sora and his team ran up to their friends. Leon saw them and grinned. "You're a little late," he teased.

"We were busy taking down a big Heartless in the plaza," Donald informed.

"Where did all these huge Heartless come from?" Sora questioned. "I don't remember them being this big."

"I know, right?" Yuffie remarked. "It's really weird, but it's been happening a lot."

"Ever since people saw this strange man in the construction sites around the restoration area," Leon explained. "They said he looked very dark."

Sora cocked his head. "Who was it?"

"No one knows, but he was a tall, green guy with black hair, a pointed chin, and a purple cape. He wasn't alone. Zell said he was with two talking robots; one was short and the other wasn't. He also said there was a vulture with them."

Sora froze. That description sounded exactly like someone he had encountered in the Sleeping Worlds and then again inside that old mining cavern near the castle. If his memory proved correct, then it had to be The Hacker, Buzz, Delete, and Scratch — the archenemies of the Cybersquad. Having dealt with the villain and his henchmen on multiple occasions already, he knew he couldn't allow them to cause more havoc in this or any world.

"We'll deal with them," he decided.

Leon smiled. "I thought you might say that. I'll join you."

A sharp ringing sound filled the air. Leon reached into his pocket and pulled out a black cellular telephone. He flipped it open and answered. After a few moments, he hung up and put it away. "That was Rinoa. She said there's more Heartless looting shops in the Marketplace."

Yuffie gasped. "Then tell her I'm on my way!"

Amemi held up her hand. "I'll help!"

Launchpad clutched his gas-gun. "Me, too!"

Sora nodded. "Okay! We'll handle things here. Take care of those guys."

Yuffie, Amemi, and Launchpad all raced off toward the Marketplace. Leon pointed toward the gatehouse to the direct south of the castle. "That's where that guy was last seen," he shouldered his gunblade. "Come, Sora!"

"Right behind you!" Sora acknowledged.

The two sped out of the yard and down the marked "street". Donald, Goofy, and Indigo were in pursuit.

The usually calm, busy town Marketplace was a complete wreck site. Several of the wooden stalls had suffered serious damage, including signs being scratched up and knocked down, counters splintered and toppled, and shelves tilted and collapsed. Merchandise of all kinds littered the area. Containers were shattered into pieces, spilled out across the ground, and lying sideways. A number of Shadow and Large Body Heartless shifted around the plaza. One woman screamed as one of the Heartless smashed its way into one of the already damaged stands. Pieces of wood went flying and the signpost mounted above the counter head snapped off its post and clattered to the ground.

Amemi could not believe what she was seeing. How could so much destruction have taken place in such a short time? It had to be raid. Still, the Heartless did not appear to be clever enough to work together so effectively. She aimed her slingshot at a Shadow Heartless and fired. The Heartless slipped into the ground, avoiding the hit.

"Those guys are trouble," Yuffie told the sandy-haired girl. She hurled her shuriken. The weapon spiraled through the air and smashed into the front of a Large Body Heartless. The enemy deflected the attack, sending it straight back at the ninja. Yuffie ducked while her weapon crashed into the stone wall a few inches away and fell to the ground. "See what I mean?"

Amemi gave a nod. "Yes," she sighed. "This is going to be tough," she clutched her weapon and raced into the fray.

Launchpad followed, shooting Heartless that came after the pair into a daze with the stun bullets from his gas-gun. "Piece o'cake!" he remarked.

"I'll help!" Before Amemi's eyes, Tifa leapt into view and started punching and kicking some of the Heartless aside. From directly outside The 7TH Heaven, Barret readied the gun melded into his arm and began blasting away the enemies from the square with amazing accuracy. "You're gonna pay!" he declared.

Amemi tilted her head, having not expected so much outside help. Was this what happened to her brother whenever he was in this world? It sure seemed to be that way. She shrugged it aside and proceeded to continue combatting the horde of Heartless with Launchpad, Yuffie, and their allies.

With a few minutes, all of the Heartless had been cleared out, allowing all the shopkeepers and customers who had taken refuge inside The 7TH Heaven to emerge and start to long process of cleaning up, rebuilding, and reopening. As everyone picked up the pieces of glass and wood from the ground, Amemi's mind suddenly hopped back to what Leon had said. "Wait a second!" she said aloud. "Where's Rinoa?"

"No idea," Yuffie shrugged. She turned to Tifa and Barret. "Have you seen her?"

"For a moment," Tifa replied. "But she disappeared in the shop next door," she pointed upward.

Amemi looked directly up at the building situated next door to The 7TH Heaven. Scrooge McDuck's ice cream parlor had a few smashed windows and a door ready to fall off its hinges. The signboard fastened to the roof above the main entrance was crooked. The place looked sadly different from the nice, friendly design it had held when she had last visited alongside Sora, Donald, Goofy, Launchpad, and Indigo. "She's in there?"

Launchpad raced up the steps to the upper level of the plaza. "Mister McDee!"

Now Amemi knew there was trouble still to resolve. Judging from her previous encounters with the Heartless, she had witnessed someone always controlling them in one way or another. Could that be what was happening now? Furthermore, could the perpetrator for this mess be inside the parlor?

She charged up the stairs after the muscular duck pilot. As they passed The 7TH Heaven's entrance, Scrooge poked his head out of the doorway. "Launchpad! Go find out what's happening in me shop! Don't let them make off with my money!"

Launchpad gave his former boss an "O.K." sign. Amemi gave a nod at the wealthy duck. "Don't worry! He and I have this covered," she tried to assure.

Scrooge sighed deeply. "Now I am worried…. "

Amemi and Launchpad rushed down the block and right through the doorway of the ice cream parlor. The entire room was a disgrace. Booths and chairs had been knocked over and torn up by the claws of Heartless (no doubt). The counter was covered in dust and plaster with a light fixture having fallen to the floor and shattered into shards of glass leaving a tear in the ceiling. The display screens for the menu above the counter were smashed with only one still on though its picture was shrouded by static. Posters promoting different flavors of ice cream and other frozen treats that had been hanging on the walls were shredded.

Amemi felt the need to kneel and stare at the floor through her closed eyes. So much damage had been dealt to this one shop. She remembered how pleasant it had seemed when Scrooge had given everyone a round of treats on the house (courtesy of Donald Duck). The sweet smell of strawberry, cherry, vanilla, chocolate, and a mixture of dozens of other flavors had lingered around. The lights had been bright, though not too brightly, making the restaurant have that sensation of Home she had seldom found in other worlds outside of the Destiny Islands. The toppled table to her right had been where she'd met Sabrina, another customer to the shop. She wished she had gotten another Rainbow-flavored ice-cream cone while she had the chance….

"She isn't here," Launchpad blurted. He patted Amemi on the shoulder. "She must be inside somewhere."

Amemi jumped to her feet. She raced up to the counter. "Then that's where we're going, too."

She hopped the counter like it was a hurdle and proceeded through the open kitchen area. Fortunately for her, the space only had machinery along the walls and not in the middle like traditional restaurants. The stainless-steel equipment was stained with inky Darkness patches, indicating a struggle must have occurred not long ago. The stench of Darkness was also stronger as the sandy-haired teenager continued across the kitchen to the back. Launchpad followed behind, his weapon clutched tightly in his hands.

A short corridor in the back of the kitchen led to a flight of stairs leading down into a basement. Just before the steps was a small office with an intact, locked door; Launchpad checked it and gave it a seal-of-approval. Amemi proceeded down the staircase and into the darker, colder space beneath the shop. She shivered. "Now I know why these places are so cold all the time," she broke the silence. She breathed out, taking note of the small cloud of whiteness her breath had taken form.

The basement ran the full dimensions of the shop above. Stacks of boxes labelled "napkins", "spoons", "straws", and other things were organized into neat piles throughout most of it. There was one spot that caught Amemi's eyesight. A few boxes had been smashed in near a large door. The sign above it read, "Freezer".

Certain a clue might await inside — partly thanks to having beaten her brother at that board game (CLUE) many times over the years — she grasped at the door's handle. She grunted and pulled on it. After a few seconds, she stopped and wiped her forehead. "That thing's too heavy to move, and it's locked."

"Allow me," Launchpad strode up and grabbed the handle. Instead of pulling, he pushed it in, causing the entire door to turn inward. "Heh! It just had to be pushed in, not pulled out."

Amemi walked inside the darkened freezer. Thanks to the light coming from the basement itself, she could see enough of the space to notice someone knelt on the floor, ferociously rubbing her hands and arms. "Rinoa!" she exclaimed.

Rinoa looked up. "Wait. You're Sora's sister, right?"

"Yes. My name's Amemi. Launchpad and I came to help you out."

"Leon didn't come?"

"He's busy with my brother and the others. They're looking for the person responsible for this."

Rinoa rose to her feet and wobbled for a moment. Amemi caught her and helped the young woman regain her balance. She led her out of the room. "They're looking in the wrong place," she informed the teenager and pilot. "The ones behind this whole mess are here. They locked me in the freezer."

Amemi stared at her. "Who did… ?!" the silhouette of three hooded individuals answered the sandy-haired islander's interrupted question. Their black masks, black clothing, and hooded cloaks complete with swords gave their identities away.

"The Beagle Boys!" she declared.

Sora continued to slash his Keyblade through every Heartless that came at him, Donald, Goofy, and Indigo as they followed Leon through the town's construction areas. The further along they went, the thicker the hordes and larger the Heartless became. At one point, Leon and Sora had to slide behind an extra-large Gigas Shadow to take it out without getting hit by its enormous claws. Although he was not sure how the extension to the typical variety of Heartless from this world had come to be, he could guess it had something to do with Hacker's presence in the town.

Why was the enemy of the Cybersquad causing havoc in this universe? What did he intend to accomplish? How had he even managed to escape from Cyberspace and end up here? Last time he had seen the villain and his henchmen, aside from the Cavern of Remembrance, they had retreated from Sandora's illusion in Traverse Town's Fountain Plaza alongside Wicked and Ledge.

So, what forces had aided him in traversing between universes? Sora had heard of worm holes making inter-universal travel possible according to a theory he had learned about in Science class. The only reason he remembered that concept was because Riku and Kairi had helped him study for the class's test. He had been required to pass it or he would have been one full year of schooling behind his friends. In the end, he had gotten an "A-" — the only "A"-category grade he had ever received on a report card — and was able to continue to the next grade level with Kairi and Riku. Now he was starting to see how that knowledge could be helpful outside of the classroom. It could have assisted him in understanding why there were so many worlds and what to anticipate whenever he visited one of them for the first time. If only he had studied harder….

Leon stopped to catch his breath. "This is starting to get dangerous," he muttered out loud.

"No kidding," Donald agreed.

"Them Heartless weren't always like this, no sir," Goofy pinpointed.

Indigo nodded. "There has to be a connection between the Heartless's growth in difficulty and the Hacker's plan here. The only question is… what is it?"

Sora gazed at the angel. "That's… what I was thinking."

"A-Hyuck! You two sure seem like the same person sometimes," Goofy remarked.

Sora and Indigo turned their attention to the knight. The looks of surprise must have been apparent because, in a matter of seconds, all of them plus Donald were laughing. Leon had to smile and fold his arms. "So, Sora, what's the best way to catch a girl's attention? Just be like you?"

Sora gave the young man a confused stare. "Huh?"

"Oh brother," Donald rolled his eyes.

"Well," Goofy thought aloud. "There's only one girl who's right for Sora, and she ain't here right now."

Indigo turned to him. "Who is that?"

"A-Hyuck! Kairi," Goofy chuckled.

Indigo turned away and placed her hands together. ''Kairi',' she thought to herself. 'I know that name from somewhere. Where have I heard it?'

Sora rubbed the back of his head and grinned. "Well… let's just get back to finding him," he glanced over his shoulder. There stood Mike Millard's carpentry workshop. Down the street to the right stood the gatehouse. He turned back to his friends and gestured at the building. "Maybe someone in there's seen him?"

"That's Mike's workshop," Leon said. "He's not there right now, but his niece might be home. We can ask her."

Sora and his team gave nods of approval. The group strode up to the building. A sign taped to the inside of the glass door indicated the shop was currently closed and the owner would be out on an errand for a few more hours. Below it, the shop's doorknob held a dangling sign that also read "CLOSED".

Donald tried the front door. "It's locked," he sighed.

"I'll handle it," Leon said. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small ring loaded with keys of various shapes, sizes, and colors. "As one of the main leaders of the Radiant Garden Reconstruction Committee, I have keys to all the important places in town, including this one."

He placed a shiny blue key into the lock and turned it. The door opened and the group stepped inside. Inside, the place still smelled of cut wood. Sora recognized the foyer's shape from last time, but now it was painted a bluish color with tiled flooring and a welcome mat. The canvas and paint buckets from before — including the one Goofy had stepped into — had vanished. A countertop had been added to the right behind which was a small doorway that led deeper into the building. A signboard mounted into the wall just inside the entrance contained a list of appointments and the logo of both the workshop and the Radiant Garden Reconstruction Committee.

Indigo looked at Leon. "Your organization has a logo?"

"Since only recently," Leon explained. "Rinoa and Aerith made the design and everyone else loved it. Some say it's based on our world's logo, but only Cid believes it's true."

Sora walked down the foyer to the counter and glanced behind it in case someone was there. All he saw was an empty area that was still a work-in-progress; it was labelled with a sign indicated such. He turned and proceeded through the doorway into the rest of the workshop. "Hello?" he called out.

The place was still in pretty much the same shape as before, though now there were more finished panels of wood leaning against the walls and a long tool rack situated above the workbench on the right side of the room. The staircase on the left now had railings on each side and polished steps. The only thing missing was people.

Sora turned to Leon, Donald, Indigo, and Goofy who were now standing directly behind him. He gave a shrug. "Looks like she's not here."

"Aw phooey," Donald murmured.

"Who's there?" came a voice. Sora and the others spun their focus to the stairs. Before their eyes, Phoebe came strolling down to the first floor. "Oh! It's you, Sora!" she smiled with relief. "Hi, Leon!"

Leon gave a small wave and grinned.

"What about us?!" Donald interrogated.

Phoebe had to smile. "I remember you, too, Donald and Goofy," her eyes landed upon Indigo. "Hello, it's nice to meet you."

Indigo waved her left hand to the dark-green-headed woman. "My name is Indigo. I have been travelling around with Sora and his other friends."

Phoebe extended her hand. "My name is Phoebe. The owner here is my uncle."

Indigo accepted the handshake.

"How's things?" Sora asked.

"They're a lot better than when you were last here," Phoebe answered. "I talked to Myrna and Aerith, and we're going to set up some more gardens in the city. We found some plans of the original city from before the Heartless came."

Leon nodded. "That's right. Aerith said you'd found something we could use in the library."

Phoebe spun around with glee. "It's so exciting to see this world coming back to its former glory! No — we'll make it even better!"

Leon grinned. "That's what we want to hear."

Indigo seemed perplexed. "So, you are saying this world was not always this messy?"

Everyone else gazed at the angel and shook their heads very slowly. Leon put a hand to his face. Phoebe sighed. Sora had to laugh and smile. "I guess we still need to catch you up," he commented.

"This could take a while," Donald stepped up to the couch resting opposite the workbench and plopped down. Goofy joined him. Before long, the pair were sound asleep.

Leon started to tell Indigo everything. He explained how the world had once been the City of Light — a title worthy of the Radiant Garden — years before until Maleficent and the Heartless had attacked roughly twelve years ago. The residents had been scattered when the city had been torn apart, leaving only the castle and Villain's Vale standing. Leon looked down as he revealed how he himself, Yuffie, Aerith, and Cid had escaped the destruction using a Gummi Ship the latter had built. The four of them had wound up in Traverse Town, a world serving as a haven for those whose worlds had been claimed by the Darkness. They had been reunited with Rinoa, Tifa, and Barret soon after, along with Bert and Merlin.

"Wait a second," Sora broke in. "I don't remember seeing them in Traverse Town."

Leon folded his arms. "They weren't with the rest of us while you were there," he grinned. "You kept missing them."

Sora sighed. "I guess…. "

Leon continued to explain to Indigo how Sora had arrived in Traverse Town and helped them all by defeating the Heartless along with Ansem, The Seeker of Darkness. By doing so, they had all been able to return to their world and begin rebuilding and restoring the damage left by Maleficent and her council. Even after three years, and dealing with the Nobodies and Organization XIII on a regular basis around a year ago, the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee — now the Radiant Garden Reconstruction Committee — was still trying to make progress amidst the usual threat of Heartless and other problems.

"And that brings us to now," Leon finished. He turned his attention at Sora. "He's our leader until the town's finished."

Indigo was amazed. "Sora…. "

Phoebe had to sigh deeply as she looked down. "I missed a lot of what happened, because I wasn't in Traverse Town that long."

Sora and Leon looked at her. "What do you mean?" the former inquired.

"I was only six years old when the Heartless came. After that, I woke up in another world where I was taken in by a doctor and his detective roommate. I lived with them for the next four years, and then the Heartless came there. When I could see again, I was in a forest. I was found by and became friends with a young deer and his friends. We lived together for the next three years," Phoebe looked up at the curtains and the light coming in through the tinted window. "After his mother was killed by a hunter he called 'Man', I set out to face them. I found 'Man' at his camp in the woods, but that was when the Heartless came there, too. I found myself in another world after that and became friends with a tribe of people."

She reached into her sleeve and pulled out a small picture. "That's how I met these two," she held it up for the others to see. "I saw you looking at this picture in my room the other day, Sora. Something tells me you know those two, am I right?"

Sora could not believe his own eyes. The image was of a teenage girl and two animals on a stone balcony lit up by some candles somewhere in Traverse Town. The girl was clearly a younger version of Phoebe wearing a tan-colored dress with two shoulder straps and a red-orange feather in her hair. She was sitting on the balcony, smiling at the camera. A light-grey furred raccoon with a puzzled look on its face was in her arms while a small, green hummingbird scowled at the photographer.

Sora gave a nod. "Yeah. That's Meeko and Flit," he looked at her directly in the eye. "But that's Pocahontas's world. You were there?"

"Oh, yes," Phoebe acknowledged. "Pocahontas was my best friend there and I shared her home with her, but after two years, their world was attacked by the Heartless and I saw a strange man with long silver hair leading them. Flit and Meeko and I were cast into the Darkness by him and found ourselves in Traverse Town."

"That's right," Leon stated. "I remember when you showed up, but you never told us what had happened to you."

"I didn't feel comfortable talking about those dark years. It was too hurtful."

"Why'd you talk about them now?"

Phoebe shifted her gaze onto Sora. "Because of you, Sora," she smiled. "I don't know why, but there's something special about you. Now I feel more comfortable sharing what I went through, and I am certain it is thanks to you."

"I can agree," Leon smiled. "This kid's always been able to make miracles happen."

"That is Sora for you," Indigo beamed.

Sora placed his hands behind his head. "I guess," he grinned. "But I think we're getting off-track. Phoebe, have you seen someone strange in town? Someone green with a pointed chin and purple cape?"

"Yes, I have seen someone like that," Phoebe approved. She pointed toward the south end of the stone world encircling the town. "He was inside the gatehouse south of here."

"Thanks," Sora thanked. He gestured to Leon and Indigo. "C'mon!"

"Sora," Indigo indicated the couch. "Did you forget someone?"

"Oh yeah!" Sora ran to the piece of furniture and shook Donald and Goofy awake. "Guys, let's go!"

"Finally," Donald complained.

The mage and knight were on their feet in no time flat. Sora led his teammates out the front of the shop and to the left. The stone gatehouse lay directly ahead of them. A few more giant Heartless lay in their path. If this truly was Hacker's doing, and Sora had little reason to think otherwise now, then the villain had probably set them in place to hold the Keyblader and his friends at bay long enough to complete whatever scheme he had planned.

'You can't hide from me, Hacker!' Sora thought to himself as he charged into the horde of enemies. Donald, Goofy, Indigo, and Leon were in heated pursuit. 'We're gonna stop you — no matter what you try!'

Amemi's look of shock and transformed into one of anger. The three Beagle Boys were standing directly before her, the stench of Darkness reeking from their clothes. She recalled how these same villains had helped the Wargoyle Heartless when it had attacked Sora and her in that square per Pete and Frollo's orders. They had been defeated then and locked up in one of Frollo's prison carriages but had apparently escaped and received assistance from Forté. If it had not been for Sora's friends at the castle — particularly the Beast — that showdown might have turned out very differently. Now the trio was busy raiding the town Marketplace in this world, too? Not on her watch!

"Wha—?! How'd you get in here?" the tallest Beagle Boys exclaimed.

"I don't know," the medium Beagle Boy added. "But Scrooge's vault isn't in here."

The shortest Beagle Boy drew his sword and pointed the blade at Launchpad. "Well, I see his pilot's here. He must know where it's at."

Launchpad scowled. "After you stole my crash that time on the mountain, I'm not telling you anything! It's not like I have anything new to tell you that makes sense, because it doesn't make sense to me!"

Rinoa raised her weapon, a contraption that reminded Amemi of a cross between a crossbow, boomerang, and chakram. The device was small enough to fit on her wrist yet large enough to fire projectiles. "You're going to pay for shutting someone in a freezer like that," she announced.

"Yes!" Amemi approved. She readied her slingshot for any sudden movements made by the three Beagle Boys. "Such a thing is not something we can just forgive!"

The villains all gave sinister grins. They drew their swords. "Let's have a bit o' fun with these gals, eh?" the tallest one suggested.

Amemi aimed her slingshot and fired at the medium Beagle Boy. The villain swung his sword and deflected the attack. "Is that the best you can do?" he scoffed.

Amemi, Rinoa, and Launchpad raced around the room, taking shots at the trio of evildoers whenever they saw an opening. The Beagle Boys chuckled and charged at each of them; the tallest went after Launchpad, the medium at Amemi, and the shortest at Rinoa. While this may have made the whole showdown sound simpler than anticipated, it actually made things more complicated. Launchpad had to keep moving to avoid being hit by the tallest Beagle Boy's sword. Rinoa's shots kept getting dodged by the small height and stature of the shortest Beagle Boy.

As for Amemi, she found herself pinned against the wall, staring into the masked eyes of the medium Beagle Boy. Each time he had made a move, she had slipped away and found herself cornered yet again by the same enemy. It seemed to go on forever — or at least for the last seven minutes.

Now pinned against the wall by the medium-height Beagle Boy, Amemi had a sword aimed at her neck. "Any last words?" the villain enquired.

"Yes," Amemi said. She pointed to the right. "Maybe you should duck?"

The Beagle Boy whirled his eyes to the right. Launchpad had barreled himself, head-first, straight into the tallest Beagle Boy and sent the brute flying. The medium Beagle Boy did not have the chance to react as his fellow Beagle Boy knocked into him and cause them both to smash into the shortest member of their group a few feet to the left. The whole kaboodle tumbled along the floor and straight into the open freezer. A giant crash followed, shaking the entire basement with a mild earthquake. Amemi and Rinoa dashed to the open doorway and, with Launchpad's help, slammed the freezer shut. Amemi fastened the metal bolt on the thin cord dangling against the handle; she slipped it into place in the handle, effectively locking the door. The noise of desperate pounding echoed from the other side.

"Let us out!" one of the Beagle Boys hollered.

"Serves you right!" Rinoa retorted.

Amemi gave the duck pilot beside her a pat on the back. "Nice work, Launchpad!"

Launchpad was rubbing his head. "Well, it's like I always say, 'when you gotta crash, you gotta crash'. But next time, maybe I should crash a little softer…. "

Amemi had to giggle at the statement. She turned toward the staircase leading back into the parlor. Striding down the steps was Scrooge with his cane in hand. He gawked at the mess in the basement. "Cushlamacree!" he halted when he saw Amemi, Rinoa, and Launchpad by the freezer. "Launchpad! You didn't do any of this, did ye?"

"No, Mister McDee!" Launchpad hastily answered. "It was those Beagle Boys again."

"We locked them inside the freezer," Amemi added in.

Scrooge was too busy sweeping his eyes around the cluttered mess than had once been neat piles of boxes and their contents. "Look what they've done to my shop!" he cried. He began to break down in tears. "It'll take forever to get this place back in business. I'll have to relocate…. "

Amemi sighed. "I'm sorry."

Scrooge shifted his attention to the group. "Well, as long yer all okay… Ack! I just remembered. Leon and the others called next door. They said to meet them at the castle once they're finished at the gatehouse."

"The 'gatehouse'?" Amemi questioned aloud.

"They must have found something," Launchpad surmised. "Could it be a piece of gelatin? I've never had the stuff," he reached into his pocket and removed a jar with leftover bacon grease. "But I heard it goes well with bacon grease."

Scrooge rolled his eyes. He turned away and started reorganizing the piles of boxes. "Why'd I ever recommend him to King Mickey as an air force pilot… ?"

"Let's go to the castle," Rinoa decided. "Leon and your friends should be there soon."

Amemi gave a nod. The three marched up the stairs, through the kitchen area, and out of the shop through what was left of its entranceway. As they proceeded through the Marketplace, the sandy-headed teen glanced back at the parlor. If what Scrooge had said was true, the place would be out-of-business until he could rebuild or relocate it. She sighed, knowing one of the few places she had visited on this adventure with her brother and his team that had reminded her of Home was gone.

At least… for now.

SLASH! "It's over!" Sora shouted as he slashed his Keyblade through the last Heartless blockading the path between the carpentry workshop and the gatehouse. He took a minute to catch his breath, knowing the way was clear.

Leon, Donald, Goofy, and Indigo strolled over to him. "Gawrsh, Sora! You look like ya need another Hi-Potion," Goofy tossed the brown, spikey-headed youth another container of green liquid.

"Thanks," Sora acknowledged. He opened the Hi-Potion and gobbled down its contents. With two seconds, he was back in his feet, his health points restored. That is, if he were a character in a video game such as the one Riku loved so much. Or was he?

Leon turned to the gatehouse. He stepped up to a small control panel built into the side of the structure's entrance. A few quick presses of its buttons and the gate rose. "Let's go in."

Sora's team hurried through the gateway, Leon directly behind. All of they clung to their weapons in case Hacker and/or his henchmen were plotting an ambush of some form. They came to a stop a few seconds later. On the other side of the gateway, just inside the housing, was a large, circular contraption in the shape of a gigantic pale ring. It was set upon a long platform, clearly for support. Standing in front of the device was a tall, green cyborg with a black wig, pointed chin, and purple cape that made him resemble a darker version of Elvis Presley. A vulture was perched on his shoulder.

"Hacker!" Sora declared. He readied his Keyblade in his signature fight stance. Donald, Goofy, and Leon did the same for their weapons. Indigo summoned her Keyblade and held onto it with both hands; the weapon did feel a little heavier than normal.

Hacker turned around, Scratch still clinging to his master's torso. "That's 'The Hacker' to you!" he countered. He gave a dark grin. "Well, well, well! If it isn't the pal of those Earth Brats and his friends."

"We'll stop you!" Donald stated in a very firm voice.

"C'mon, man!" Sora complained. "Can't you just go away and leave us alone already?"

"Yeah," Goofy approved. "You've been causing all sorta trouble around this here world."

"And I won't stand for you trying to mess up my home," Leon proclaimed.

Hacker looked to the left and right. "Buzz! Delete! Now!"

Within moments, the two robotic henchmen appeared from the railings located on either side of the gateway. With one swift move, they threw a pair of large nets over the edges. The nets criss-crossed and landed a few inches short of Sora's feet. Hacker glowered at his minions. "You duncebuckets! Can't you do anything right?!"

"But we did what you told us," Delete whimpered.

"Yeah, and besides," Buss munched on a donut. "I was gettin' a little hungry."

Hacker slapped himself in the face. "I'm surrounded by incompetents!"

Sora had to shake his head. Without that Hackermobile of his, Hacker was too dependent on Buzz and Delete to get things done. Unfortunately for him, that was next to impossible. "What do you think you're doing here?" he interrogated.

Hacker's grin returned. "Glad you asked," he gestured at the device behind him. "Using the technology of this place, I've put together a trans-dimensional opening."

"I thought it was a portal, boss," Delete blurted.

Hacker glared the taller robot silent. "The best part about it is you can't follow me, leaving me to take over all of Cyberspace with these new followers I have gained," as he spoke, a handful of super-sized Shadow, Air Soldier, Soldier, and Large Body Heartless stepped into view. "Now no one can stop me — not those kids, not you, not even Motherboard!"

Sora clutched his Keyblade tightly. "We'll stop you! After all you did in Traverse Town, there's no way we're letting you get away with this!"

Hacker's grin transformed into a snarl. "Fine! Have it your way!" he declared. He gestured at the Heartless behind him. "Get them all!"

The Heartless all took a few steps forward and then into one another. Before Sora, Donald, Goofy, Indigo, and Leon's eyes, the creatures all merged into one super-sized being. It resembled a dinosaur with sharp teeth, four heavy legs, a thick, long tail, and spikes along its back. The color scheme was a mixture of black, blue, brown, and red — the colors expected from that type of Heartless it had been made from. Plus, the Heartless emblem was easily visible on its head, directly between the eyes.

Sora knew his team and him did not have much of a choice. He dashed around the enemy, searching for an opening. Donald and Goofy slid underneath and struck their opponent in the belly below. Leon hurried along the other side of the Heartless, ducking and jumping to avoid being clobbered by its tail. Indigo took to the air and sliced at the Heartless's spiked back only to discover it was invincible there.

Sora and his companions kept looking around for a weak spot and instead found themselves avoiding attacks as the Heartless stomped its feet, swung its tail, and smashed its head against the ground. Sora was bewildered. Up until then, every Heartless he had dealt with had possessed a clear weakness or some form. Having noticed Donald trying various spells with no outcome at all, he realized the enemy was likely resistant to all magic types. Leon had tried to tear into the creature's tail and barely made a dent (if anything at all). Goofy had tried blocking and countering attacks with no result. Even Indigo's attacks from above where deflected by the thick, invincible armored plating of those spikes on its back.

Sora had to sigh deeper than usual. How could he possibly bring down a Heartless that was apparently immune to all their attacks? It did not seem fair. Maybe this was an impossible challenge. However, it he could not bring it down, then Hacker could transport it with him through that portal into Cyberspace. Who knew how much chaos and mayhem he could create with such a monster under his command? Not even the Cybersquad would stand a chance let alone Motherboard.

No! He had to bring it down — now! No way would he allow an enemy of his friends from another universe to prevail. He had to win. The fate of both Kingdom Hearts and Cyberspace was now in his hands and he knew what was best for both.

The Heartless slammed its head into the ground a few inches from the young man's feet. Sora hopped into the air. That was when he saw it. Each time the creature smashed its head down, the armored plating covering its skull cracked a little more. The weakest part of this self-inflicted damage was centered directly around the Heartless emblem. Once he was at the peak of his jump, he dove for the emblem, his Keyblade in the lead. The blade stabbed itself clear into the Heartless's head, resulting in a large quivering to vibrate through the rest of its body. The Heartless tumbled onto its side, forcing Donald, Goofy, and Leon to run. Sora landed onto the ground on the other side of the monster from his friends. He looked back in time to see a gigantic, much larger-than-normal captive heart escape from the creature's head. The Jurassic Heartless vanished into Darkness, its defeat absolute.

Sora turned to the left where Hacker stood in shock. He pointed his Keyblade at the villain's pointed chin. "Give it up, Hacker! You lost — again!"

Hacker growled back. "Just you wait! I'll be back!" he looked up at the railings. "Buzz! Delete! Scratch!"

"Coming, boss!" Buzz and Delete shouted back. Scratch swooped down from his perch upon the railing (he had flown there the second the battle had begun). With a simple press of a button of the side of the device, Hacker switched the portal to life. A large, pinkish swirl appeared in the middle of the ring. Hacker and Scratch were the first ones through. Buzz and Delete were not far behind. Less than a minute after the four had stepped into the portal, the device shut off. Sora gave a sigh of relief.

"It's over," Leon called as he raced up to the device. He swung his gunblade and squeezed the trigger as the blade touched the portal's ring. A powerful blast followed. When the dust and glare subsided, the device was in shambles. Pieces of metal and splintered, sparking wires were all that could be seen.

Sora breathed a second relieved sigh. With the portal's mechanism gone and Hacker, Buzz, Delete, and Scratch back in Cyberspace without any Heartless remaining under their command, it was clear both universes would be safer than they would otherwise have been if things had turned out differently. He put his Keyblade away and brilliantly smiled. "Well, that's that!"

Donald, Goofy, and Indigo ran up to him. "How'd you do that?" Donald questioned.

"Yeah," Goofy agreed. "Muh attacks weren't workin'."

Indigo had to smile. "I saw the whole thing. You found that Heartless's weakness, am I correct?"

Sora gave a nod. Leon strode up to Sora. "Back there, you said he caused trouble in Traverse Town," the long-haired young man said. "I don't remember him being there back then."

Sora patted his hair, careful not to get poked by the sharper points. "It's kinda a long story, but he's not from this world. He's not from this universe."

"So he's like a crossover character from a video game?" Leon had to smile. "Sora, you can be so naïve sometimes, but your imagination doesn't know any bounds."

The young man walked away, trying not to laugh. Sora sighed. Indigo approached him. "Sora, what do you mean by 'another universe'?"

"Well… it's sorta… think the Sleeping Worlds," with that, Sora ran off to catch up with the already-departing Leon. Goofy and Donald were not far behind.

Indigo was deep in thought. "'Sleeping Worlds'?" she said out loud. The seventeen-year-old had repeatedly mentioned that term multiple times throughout this adventure. He had brought up how he and Violet had visited Tinker Bell's world there. He had mentioned it a few other times, too, though she could not think of them all at the top of her head. What was so significant about such a place? She shook her head. "Sora does seem to know more than he is letting on… or something along those lines."

She leapt into the air and soared along to play follow the leader with the rest of the group.

The Castle's doors seemed heavier than Sora remembered. Although Dilan and Aeleus let him, Donald, Goofy, Indigo, and Leon through without question, he still had to push the doors open so they could enter. The entrance hall looked about the same as last time, though a little more decorated for the holiday season. The colorful lights strung around the room were blinking in perfect conjunction with the song playing through the speakers now installed and mounted along the walls. A spotlight bearing the words "SEASON'S GREETINGS" had been positioned on the upper floor, its beam aimed directly at the space between the stairs. Large plastic snowflakes were still placed on the second-floor railings, although a silver garland was now wrapping them together in a wavy fashion. In the space between the two staircases, a large, evergreen tree was set up with gifts all around it. Ornaments of every size, shape, and color decorated the tree, along with silver garland, non-flickering lights, and a shiny, white angel on top. Seated on a wooden bench beside the tree and before the fountain were Amemi, Launchpad, and Rinoa. "Sora!" the sandy-haired girl called.

"Amy!" Sora called back. "You're okay!"

Amemi smiled. She flexed her arms. "It takes more than those Beagle Boys were giving to stop us."

Sora was taken aback. "Wait! The Beagle Boys were in the marketplace?"

"Not again," Donald sighed.

Amemi nodded. "Yes, and they were trying to raid Scrooge's ice cream parlor, but we stopped them and locked them up in the freezer."

"Gee," Goofy said in astonishment. "All we did was stop thuh Hacker from bringin' Heartless into Cyberchase."

"'Cyberspace'," Donald and Sora corrected.

Amemi tilted her head. "Who? Where?"

"Different universe," Sora rapidly stated. This brought out chuckles and laughs from everyone else.

Amemi had to shake her head. "It sounds like an old show that used to come on an hour before WordGirl. I wish I could remember its name…. "

"Strange," Sora muttered aloud. "Everything that just happened was so weird."

Rinoa shrugged. "Things like this happen all the time, but not on such a big scale."

"That's right," Leon approved. "It's a good thing you were here to help us. If you had been in another world…. "

"Okay, okay! We get the hint!" Sora interrupted. He paused. "I guess sometimes stranger things do happen."

"You bet," Donald agreed.

"And let's hope they don't involve any strangers next time," Launchpad commented.

Sora's Keyblade appeared in his hand. Up above, a Keyhole came into view, its shape glistening in the spotlight's beam. With a single move, the young man aimed his weapon at the Keyhole. A beam of Light emerged at the end of the blade and shone into the Keyhole. It unlocked and disappeared in a brilliant display of Light. Once it had faded, Sora put his toy away. "Looks like it's time to go," he looked at Leon and Rinoa with a grin. "You two be nice now."

Leon and Rinoa gazed at one another in surprise. They looked away a moment later.

"We shall return in case anything else takes place," Indigo reassured.

"Yeah!" Sora promised. "And don't sweat about the Heartless or Maleficent's Council. We'll deal with them," he waved to Rinoa and Leon. "See ya later!"

Sora led Donald, Goofy, Launchpad, Amemi, and Indigo to the doorway and back out of the castle. They made their way to the Marketplace where Herbie still waited atop one of the smashed, abandoned stalls. Before long, the group was back in the racecar-turned-Gummi Ship and had taken off for the stars.

It would be some time before the Marketplace was back in working order, yet Sora hoped he would not have to return to the Radiant Garden for another emergency until it was finished.

Green bolts of surging electricity raced down from the ceiling. The Beagle Boys scattered in a heartbeat, but their feet were too stiff from the cold interior of the freezer to get them out of the way fast enough. The energy released from the strike sent them flying across the chamber.

From her position on the platform overlooking the rest of the meeting hall, Maleficent scowled with a fiery intensity. "You imbeciles! You idiots!" she hollered. "You dare to come back here after all the mischief you caused?! You were sent to help Don Karnage find the Tome of Prophecies in another world."

Pete was standing a few feet away from the evil fairy. He had his hands tucked over his head. If there was one thing he was very aware about, it was Maleficent's wrath. He had undergone it on many occasions. Still, seeing it happen to someone else bothered him. One stray bolt of electric energy would be plenty to zap him silly, too.

"We're goin' back!" the tallest Beagle Boy said while he opened a dark portal. He raced through it.

"See?" the medium one added as he charged into the dark opening.

"Wait for me!" the shortest Beagle Boy shouted as he entered the dark portal in turn.

"And explain yourselves to Karnage about your absence!" Maleficent yelled into the Darkness just before the dark portal sealed itself closed. She snorted. "Pathetic imbeciles…. "

Pete paused for a second. "Maybe that Karnage guy sent them to raid the town for the ice cream," he started to say. "And then they were caught by everyone there and got locked up in that freezer by…. "

"Be silent!" Maleficent demanded. Pete cowered onto the floor.

The sorceress did not pay him any mind. She turned to the side and opened a dark portal of her own. She stepped through and out the other side. The smaller, circular room was quieter than the chamber downstairs. With most of the council members — and especially the Inner Circle — out looking for that book, Villain's Vale seemed very empty compared to how noisy it typically was. Maleficent did not mind the silence. Even as Diablo landed on her shoulder, all she did was gaze out into the distance. The city was still under construction, its castle over halfway through its renovation process.

"Soon," she said to herself. "Very soon, this world and all the other worlds will belong to us. Then, the Darkness will be on our side. Organization XIII will need a miracle to get ahead."

She gently petted her raven. "Isn't that right?"

Diablo cawed in agreement.

The outside of the Mysterious Tower was very quiet. Rather, it would have been quiet if Niccole had not decided to use the spot near the outdoor fountain to practice using spells against some magic-proof Heartless dummies. Riku leaned against the side of the building, watching the show. Each time the golden-haired girl used a spell, one of the dummies would avoid it and cause the attack to fly back like a boomerang. Niccole deflected a few spells in this manner and knocked down a couple dummies already. Still, this was looking to be harder than she had anticipated.

Riku had to grin. "That's just like what Sora would've done if he was in your shoes."

Niccole shook her head. "He must struggle so much."

"You have no idea how far he can come in a short time."

The doorway of the tower opened. Lea emerged from inside. "Talk about silly with a capital 'S'," the red-haired man teased. "I saw the whole thing from the window upstairs."

Riku and Niccole shifted their attention to him. "Is that why you came here?" the latter inquired. "To laugh at my mistakes?"

Lea shook his head very fast. "Nah! Master Yen Sid and the King want us in the study. Kairi and Violet are already there. You're the last ones to show up."

Riku and Niccole glanced at one another. If Yen Sid and Mickey Mouse needed them, they had to go upstairs in a hurry. In a matter of seconds, they were scurrying up the stairs of the tower. Lea was the last one to reach the study.

Kairi and Mickey were glad to see Riku, Niccole, and Lea show up. Riku strode up to the auburn-haired girl he had known for more than ten years. "How's your training going?" he asked.

"It's going well," Kairi replied. "But that's not why we're all here."

That was when all focus shifted to Master Yen Sid. The retired Keyblade Master was deep in thought, almost like he was in a state of meditation. "The great battle with Xehanort is almost upon us," he said. "Right now, he's waiting for another to make a move before he plays his hand. Now's the time to complete our next step."

"The missing Keyblade wielders," Niccole acknowledged.

"That is correct," Yen Sid looked up and reopened his eyes. "As you all know, we must take action to keep the seven pure lights safe, and thus must hasten to assemble the seven Guardians of Light. We must return to our world the two sets of three Keyblade wielders we lost over a decade ago. I have sensed two of them somewhere in the Realm of Darkness."

"I see," Lea murmured. "And what are their names?"

"Ventus, Terra, and Aqua are three of them," Mickey explained. "The other three are Carlos, Crystal, and Shelly. I don't remember much about them, but I know Master Yen Sid's been worried about them for years."

"I remember you said something about them before," Niccole said. "They were your apprentices, right?"

Yen Sid gave a nod. "That is correct. They disappeared from this world long ago. Crystal's star went out and I do not know what became of her. Carlos resigned his title and went off someplace else, and I remained in the dark about his whereabouts."

"Then the fragmented dispatch arrived," Violet indicated. "That is the intent for requesting Sora, Donald, Goofy, and Launchpad locate the misplaced sections. It could reveal where your prior pupil has been stashed."

"As for Shelly," Yen Sid continued. "She ran off that same night and also disappeared. At first, I was certain she had gone home. However, I did not sense her presence on the Destiny Islands, so I knew then something had to have happened to her."

"She's from the islands?" Riku was surprised. Until now, he had never known of someone else from his home world having a Keyblade aside from Sora. "But if she's not there,… where did she go?"

"I think I know," Mickey blurted. All eyes turned to the mouse king. "Same with Aqua. I saw them… in the Realm of Darkness."

A/N: THE REALM OF DARKNESS, HMM? SOUNDS LIKE A CLIFFHANGER IS AWAITING ANSWER!
Well, that shall wait until Chapter 53 comes along.

Here are some things I would like to go over,
(1.) Yes, I have played the board game, "CLUE", to death when I was younger. To make it more fun, I suggested to my family about mixing up ALL the cards and seeing what the outside was in the envelope. The result was actually VERY amusing, though it did make the game take so much longer to finish.

(2.) Phoebe's tale sounded familiar in regards of whom she met during those ~ten years.
Can you guess who she met and where? Here is a hint: They are ALL Disney characters and worlds!

(3.) At last, the "Cyberchase" Crossover section of This Story is complete! Still, there might be more of said crossover in the next story, so stay tuned!
The same goes for another Crossover that has been hinted at at least twice in This Story so far. One of the characters referenced it at least two times, so you may want to read back and see if you can determine what it is before the second Crossover commences!

(4.) You can probably guess what is coming next, given you played "Kingdom Hearts 2.8 HD Final Chapter Prologue".

(5.) That is all - for now!

So Then, I'll See You Next Time!
In other words, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT REVIEWING! THE FATE OF THIS STORY DEPENDS ON IT!

REMEMBER THIS - A MINIMUM OF 214 IS REQUIRED FOR THE SEQUEL! IF 240 ARE POSTED, I WILL INCLUDE A "SNEAK PEEK" FOR THE SEQUEL ITSELF! HOWEVER, THAT/THOSE GOAL(S) MUST BE MET BY THE TIME THE-SECOND-TO-LAST-CHAPTER IS POSTED! THAT WAY, I WILL HAVE TIME TO ANNOUNCE WHETHER OR NOT EITHER GOAL WAS MET!

This Is SoraLego278 Saying, "See Ya Later, Keybladers!" Plus, "Have A ZIP-A-DEE-DOO-DAH DAY!"
Have A Pleasant Thanksgiving Break, 2021!
