Chapter Fifteen
She walks back to her father's cave, her cloak flowing behind her. When she does get back to his cave, the green light is shining out the front, almost blinding her. She squints, walking into the cave. The light had never been this bright before, nor had they ever come out the front before. The light gets brighter the further she walks, until it is almost impossible to see. Eventually she finally comes upon her father, who was laying out on the ground.
"Father!" She runs to him, feeling his cold skin. He coughs up something purple. "What's wrong?"
"I'm dying." His voice is even more hoarse than usual which was saying a lot. His cane was laying somewhere to the side.
"No! You can't die!" Bianca begins to cry, her voice breaking.
"It was only a matter of time before I passed. Since your mother died, my condition has only gotten worse." He coughs again. "And now my time has come."
"No! There has to be a way! I can't do this on my own!"
"You have to carry on. I-" His grip on her arm loosens, before collapsing. She checks for a pulse, finding none.
"No!" She screams, the light dimming. His body turns to dust on the ground. She stands up, storming out of the cave. She turns back around, waving her hands, causing the cave to collapse. She faces forward again, stomping away.
The walk to the guards' quarters felt longer than ever. (Perhaps, because he knew that this would be the last time he would ever see the princess again. The last time he would ever get to hold her in his arms. Kiss her. Make love to her. That he would never get to see his child.) He shakes his head, before continuing on his way to the quarters. Unsurprisingly, he finds that almost everyone is asleep, except for two empty sections. His own and Tommy's. He narrows his eyes in confusion, just as the door to the training room opens.
Kat and Tommy come out of the room, laughing quietly, presumably not to wake any of the sleeping guards. He could've sworn they were holding hands. Upon seeing Jason looking at them however, they dropped each other's hand, and he was sure they were blushing. Tommy clears his throat, "uh, Jason you're back. How did it go with the princess?"
"I don't want to talk about it." He turns around, walking towards his section.
He picks up on their voices from behind him, "I should get going."
"Okay. I'll see you soon then."
Kat's footsteps fade as she leaves the quarters. By this time, Jason has already climbed into bed, hearing Tommy's footsteps as he goes to his own section. Despite his current emotional state, he falls asleep rather quickly, hoping to escape into his dreams. But even that was apparently too much to ask.
He blinks his eyes open, and he's in the grass in the woods. Confused, and on alert, he gets to his feet, looking around the woods. His sister comes into his view. "We meet again brother."
"You certainly know how to make an entrance." She must not like this as her face twists, before he suddenly goes flying, landing several feet away. Smoke comes off of his armor. She comes over to him, picking him up off the ground. "You don't have to do this."
"Oh yes I do. And it's a shame, because you more than anyone should want the queen dead."
"If what you say is true, then killing her is not the way to go about it."
She drops him back onto the ground, or rather throws him onto the ground. "Please, I don't want to fight you."
She laughs. "You don't know where we are, do you?"
Before he can even think of something to say, she's already answered her own question. "You're in my head. I have twice as much power here. You see, when I went into your mind, it weakened me. Because in your own head, you can have all the power you want and more. Now you're in my head, and I have all the power."
She puts her hand out, and he raises off the ground and above her head. He can feel himself slipping away, the color draining from his hands. That is until a beam of light comes out from the gem, striking his sister. They both fall to the ground. His energy comes back to him, and he grabs the gem, as he gets to his feet. His sister struggles onto his feet, blood dripping from her mouth.
Then she charges at him, with his sword. He dodges her, but she does manage to cut his side. He falls to the ground, the superficial wound hurting much more than it normally would. She rolls him onto his back with her foot, wielding the sword above him. "This is for you father!"
She goes to strike him, but the gem flows bright. Her eyes narrow, before widening. The light becomes so bright that it blinds him. His sister screams, followed by the sound of his sword clattering to the ground. The light dies down, and she's gone. His sword lays next to him in the grass. This is the last thing he remembers before everything goes black.
