"Why do I have to stay here, Summoner?" The demoness/goddess voice rang from an inalambric earpiece. "No one other than you can see me! Even your laptop has more space than this phone!"
"Sorry." Yuji apologized to the demon inside his phone "But I feel much more secure when you're not near my grandpa or at least, if I'm sure you're not going to harm anyone."
"Oh, come oooon! You're basically my master! I wouldn't dare to do that unless ordered to!"
"After that magic trick with fire and that terrifying speech? Yeah, I am sure I wouldn't have nightmares if I were to leave a demon free to go on a rampage." Yuji deadpanned.
Hathor exhaled in exasperation. She did walk into that one. Most demons are tricksters by nature and with a mind alien to mortals to boot. So it was reasonable to be paranoid when dealing with them. But this is ridiculous.
"Look, when school finishes I'll let you out, promise!"
"And that is…?" Hathor rolled her eyes.
Yuji sweatdropped "Well…" He was about to answer but stopped.
"What… is that?"
Clung to another student there was something. Whatever it was, it had a monstrous aspect combined with uncanny human features like its multiple arms, eyes and mouths in places that shouldn't be anatomically possible.
"School… I hate school…" Even its voice was both human and inhuman, adding to the creepiness.
"Hey! What's happening out there?!" Hathor's voice shook Yuji out of his shock, which prompted him to fish out his phone and materialize Hathor in a flurry of numbers.
Hathor blinked at the sight of the monster and floated closer to it. "Interesting."
"Do you know what that is?"
"Not… exactly but whatever it is, it's made from Magatsuhi."
"Magawhat?"
At Yuji's genuinely confused tone, the cow goddess rolled her eyes "Magatsuhi is the spirit essence formed from especially strong or concentrated human emotions like fear or hate. And like magnetite, it isn't visible by normal means unless you were to have strong spiritual power. We demons may be dependent on magnetite to maintain our bodies but we can consume Magatsuhi for energy. Though it's my first time seeing a being formed from Magatsuhi, at least in the human world." Hathor explained with a tone of interest.
"And why is it clinging to that guy?" Yuji asked.
"Well, due to it being literally made of emotions, it was either born from his stress or attracted to it, and is causing a feedback loop in which it makes him more negative which makes it stronger."
"... And what would happen if it continues like that?"
"I don't know and I don't care." Hathor shrugged. "Why would you care for someone you don't know and that you may never meet again? Besides, there are many others in the world in a much worse situation than stressing over school."
Yuji was silent. It was true that he doesn't know the guy and that a lot of people suffer from much worse. But would ignoring it make it better?
"If I don't do something, when I have the capacity to help anyone, I may regret it later." He said convinced. "Tell me what to do."
Hathor sighed. "Well, you're my master so I must do what you say." She magically generated a flame from her hand. "We, demons, as spiritual entities, cannot be taken with ordinary weaponry, so you must use supernatural means." She pointed her arm at the possessed student. "Like this."
"Waitwaitwaitwait!" Before she fired the Agi to her objective, Yuji grabbed her arm, making her yelp in surprise and letting the fire spell shoot towards the sky. "The hell are you doing?!"
"What you wanted, duh!" She yelled to him in response while she struggled to liberate herself without success, not even moving an inch. How does a human have that much strength?! she thought hysterically.
"You were about to roast him!"
"And get rid of the pest that clings to him!" She stopped struggling in futility. "If you didn't take notice, I don't have a lot in the physical department. How else would I kill that spirit without magic? Grappling on it?" She shot sarcastically.
"Grappling on it…" Yuji muttered then made an obvious observation. "I'm touching you…"
"Oi!"
"Not in that context!" Yuji quickly defended himself while finally letting go of Hathor's arm, face red. "I mean, even if I cannot kill it, I can touch it, right?"
"Probably." She answered while rubbing her wrist. "Even ghost based demons are affected in some capacity by the material though like I told you, only magic or demonic weapons can do them in. And even if you could, how the hell are you going to do that with people looking?"
In effect, there were still people passing by, and because Hathor is invisible to them, they only saw a salmon-haired guy doing and saying weird things by his lonesome, making him sweatdrop at the people commenting on him or giving a wide berth.
"D-don't worry about that, I have a plan. At the signal, blast the damned thing."
"What signal?"
"You'll see."
Leaving an increasingly frustrated demon behind, Yuji came towards the poor sap, whistling while putting his hands on the back in a poor attempt to appear innocent.
At the moment he was at his side, he punched the malignant spirit in a lightning quick movement, which also had the side effect of toppling the victim to the ground if Yuji didn't react in time and caught him. "Sorry! I thought there was a fly!"
The monster splat on a wall though due to its cursed constitution, it began to regenerate until an Agi landed on it, exorcising it in flames.
"Huh? I feel lighter." The student blinked, surprised at the banishment of his negativity after his botched fall.
Yuji looked back and flashed a thumbs up with a smirk. Hathor could only sigh. As much of an idiot her master could be, he could show some surprisingly good ideas as well as monstrous strength. As much as she wanted to ask him how he does have that much power, she still had to follow him to high school and pass the day there. Joy.
Though that does raise the question: are there more humans like him?
Demonology is Sorcery, right?
"M-m-mercy." A bloated, purple abomination of a naked man trembled in fear at the sight of the massacre committed upon the rest of his kin.
"Mercy?" A bespectacled ponytailed young woman armed with a spear looked coldly upon him. "After killing innocent civilians, feasting on their corpses and trying to kill me?"
"W-well, we're quite hungry and-"
"Like hell I care. Even if I've never seen curses such as you before, it's my job as sorcerer to deal with monsters like you. And personally, I'm quite outta mercy."
"N-No! Bargh!" The Pretra could only choke on his own blood from the spear piercing his chest, finally evaporating in a cloud of magnetite and Magutsuhi.
"Are you finished, Maki?" A talking panda spoke to the Jujutsu sorceress.
"Yeah. Though I'd have to admit, for such weak curses they sure were intelligent, they even talked!"
"Really?" Panda put his paw under his chin. "I've heard of rumors about intelligent curses appearing lately. And they say they look like stuff from mythology."
"Wait a minute, are you saying we're dealing with Imaginary classes?!" Maki shouted incredulously. "But these guys were weak as shit!"
"I don't know." Panda shrugged. "But we must report it. More intelligent curses mean more trouble ahead."
"Jeeze. Few months after Geto's attack and we have to deal with more shit? Give me a break." Maki sighed.
"Maybe a curse based on the fear of nuclear energy will appear and provoke the nuclear apocalypse?" Panda mused.
"Don't joke with that! I don't want to be the one to be sent to Fukushima, much less Hiroshima and Nagasaki to deal with the curses there! I heard the Cursed Tools used as hazmat suits are sweaty as well as tacky! I don't want to be caught dead in one of them!"
"Are you more worried about your fashion sense than dying from cursed radiation poisoning?" Panda sweatdropped.
AN: Hey, if curses born from the fear of the earth, nature and humanity itself exist, why not from the fear of the dangers of nuclear energy, especially in Japan? Surprisingly, the Jujutsu society has their situation completely under control, even if they're annoyingly dangerous to deal with.
Japanese nuclear disasters, fictional and real, aside, yeah, first interaction of a Summoner and a Demon with a Cursed Spirit. The closest thing demons would compare with would be Shadows, repressed emotions incarnated in the collective Sea of Souls of humanity though unlike Cursed Spirits, Shadows can only exist in the cognitive world or special spaces like the Dark Hour and have the potential to become demons and leave the Collective Unconscious for the Expanse, remain there to influence human minds or become Personas. Though maybe, a Domain would have the same effect as a cognitive space…
And yeah, magnetite and Magatsuhi. Those are the imprescindible nutrients a demon needs: the former to maintain their body mass and the latter, for their energy necessities. Without those, a demon will starve to the point they'll seek humans or other demons to devour to replenish their reserves. Fortunately, they can be satiated with either of the two, so demons can feed on Cursed Spirits or ambient cursed energy/Magatsuhi for a time until they develop magnetite deficiency and search for humans and demons to feed on.
The difference between Summoners and Sorcerers are which type of spiritual energies are more prominent within them: magnetite or Magatsuhi (Cursed Energy). While sorcerers can feed demons with their cursed energy, demon bodies take a lot of magnetite to manifest, so the magnetite-rich Summoners end up more vital for any contract-bound demon. If a sorcerer tries to feed a magnetite-deprived demon, they'll end up wasting more cursed energy than normal and if they try to feed them with their bodies' magnetite, they'll end up fatigued or catatonic. Maybe even dead! Theoretically, condensed Magatsuhi can be used to manufacture magnetite but you'll need absurd quantities to pull it off so it will end up more efficient for a sorcerer/curse user with a demon contract to hunt other demons or humans or just search for a Summoner or someone with that potential.
Besides, the Demon Summoning Program and their high magnetite reserves make it easier for Devil Summoners to maintain demons: they can simply store demons in a digital storage and only pay the magnetite cost at the summoning act. Though maybe magnetite storage tubes from the likes of Devil Summoner can be used to recycle a demon's magnetite and make it endure more time while at the same time storing the demons themselves…
So yeah, sorcerers can contract demons but summoners are much, much better at it.
Speaking of, the final scene meant that not only Jujutsu society has to deal with curses and curse users, they now have to deal with an increasing appearance of demons and anyone knows what happens when someone meddles with the supernatural with nefarious purposes in both series, especially in the Megaten side of things. Heck, just having the demons' attention means the clock towards the apocalypse has begun ticking. And even if the end of the world is averted, the next armageddon may be around the corner. After all, humanity cannot escape the demons and gods born from their minds as long as they exist, same with Cursed Spirits.
Fortunately, gates from the Expanse or the Collective Unconscious are still far and between and any sorcerer or summoner can relatively deal with them but with time, demons will have more of a stronghold in the human world as well as associate themselves with curse users or cursed spirits as well as Dark Summoners (Devil Summoners version of Curse Users), especially 'Geto' and his allies.
As for Demi-fiend and Sukuna, well, that depends. If the Demi-fiend is of a Dark-Chaotic disposition, then he'll gladly ally with Sukuna in massacring everyone. If Demi and Sukuna fight for whatever reason, that would depend if Sukuna can pierce Masakados and Demi-fiend can surpass Sukuna's regeneration with Almighty and/or Pierce though I may probably give the victory to the Demi-fiend due to his greater repertoire of demons and skills. Though I'll admit we have yet to see Ryomen Sukuna's true power, not to talk Gojo becoming serious, so we'll have to wait and see where both the strongest Jujutsu characters will finally place in the wonky power level rankings of SMT.
One thing for sure: Megaten has a ridiculously list of overpowered beings and even if Sukuna and Gojo were to be able to kill YHVH and Lucifer (and it's highly probably they're able to), they are NOTHING compared to the Velvet Room assistants, much less Stephen, the latter of had five SMT protagonists against the ropes in what was supposed to be a test. And let's not talk about the Axiom/Great Will. In fact, I expect instant Gaea Rage/Armageddon the moment they detect Gojo's Infinity.
I'm sorry Gojo, as cool as you are, the title of the strongest is for a crippled physicist who actually managed to reach enlightenment.
By the way, I started SMTV and yeah, if I am going desperate for resources at the start of the game in Normal, I feel the rest of the game will be hellish, hahaha… At least the open world, graphics and music are incredible though there are a lot of loading times...
