Alexis tapped her foot on the hardwood floor at Kelly's, impatiently. She looked at her watch and then the clock to make sure they matched. Ric was late. He was always somewhat on time, and now he's fifteen minutes late. She sipped the last of her cup of coffee and ordered another on, just as Ric
came trudging through the door.
"Make that two, Mike."
"Coming right up."
"Hey honey, sorry I'm late," he walked over and kissed her and plopped down on the seat across from her, "Heavy traffic."
"It would help if you answered your phone once in a while."
"I know. I'm sorry. I forgot to chare it last night and it went dead on me."
After he was finished talking she turned away and looked at the ground.
"What's wrong, Alexis?"
"We have a situation."
"What-What is it?"
"Viola told me this morning that this was going to be her last day working for us. She's quitting."
"Did she say why?"
"She's moving to go to NYU, for her teaching degree."
"What are we going to do?"
"Well I guess we'll have to put up a job offer in the paper, and see if anyone replies."
"What are we going to do until then?"
"I'm not sure. We can't stay home, with all our long hours these days."
"Yah its amazing how fast Lansing&Lansing Law has taken off. Probably because of its oh-so-wonderful name. I still can't believe you finally decided to take my last name."
"Well 1st, I am trying to become somewhat of a traditionalist-"
"You love me."
"And 2nd, you know why start a long term bicker match on what to call our law firm-"
"You love me."
"And 3rd…"
"I'm stumped, what is it?"
"An third is because-"
"You love me."
She laughed. "You know I do."
"And I love you."
They both leaned across the table and kissed each other. Alexis withdrew and searched his eyes.
"I better go and put up that job offer."
"Must you? Because I would really enjoy another one of those."
"Well you can definitely have another one," she leaned forward and paused, inches away from his lips, "Just not right now." They both smiled and she pecked him a quick one. "See you when you get home."
She walked out and left. Ric drank the last drop of his coffee, threw the money on the table and proceeded to the door and out.
THIS IS JUST AN INTRODUCTORY CHAPTER
The fun starts later.
