Charlie tiredly graded papers, when a rather drunken Larry called.

"Chaarleezzzzzzz" the physicist slurred his words. He had gone to a restaurant, with a few of his friends from the physics department to celebrate somebody's birthday."I've finally got the answer!"

"To what?"

"Life, the universe and Everything!" Larry boasted.

"Sounds like you had a very productive evening." Charlie humored his friend.Larry always liked to ponder life's greater mysteries, and often came up with interesting conclusions, even when sober."What's the answer?"

"forty two!" Larry had come up with this during the course of the evening. The more he thought about it, the more it made sense. Why hadn't he seen it before?

"Forty two?" Charlie had expected something more convoluted, and long winded.

"This should be obvious to you of all people!" Larry told him in exasperation. Charlie was a mathematician for God's sake! Why couldn't he see the significance of the number forty two?

"Where are you Larry?" Charlie asked, with worry. He didn't want larry to drive home in his condition.

"My location, or what appears to be my location, is of no importance, in the light of my new revelation!" Larry groaned.

"It's just that I'd rather talk about the ...uh..significance of the number forty twoin person with you" Charlie said, trying to keep himself from laughing.

"Okay..." Larry told Charlie where he was.

"I'll be there in a few" the mathematician promised. Soon, he was on his way, looking forward to teasing his friend the next day.

The End.
