"I got it! I got it!"
Danny frowned at his sister's excited voice as he walked up from the lab, finally returning from the Ghost Zone. "Got what?" he asked loudly. His family ignored him.
"Let me see Jazz," his father whined, sounding like an impatient puppy. Good news then?
"Hang on dear," he heard his mother say. She was quiet as Danny moved to the fridge, grabbing the leftovers his parents saved from dinner. He heard her make a noise of approval. "This is great! Now we can finally hold that press conference."
He sat at the table, starting to eat as he eavesdropped on their conversation.
"I can't wait till Danny's back," Jazz said. "He's going to flip."
His fork dropped to his plate as he realized what they must be talking about. Rushing out of the kitchen to the living room, he ignored the surprised calls for his name as he grabbed the newspaper out of his Mom's hands, staring at it with wide eyes.
Phantom and Fentons Fight Together For Second Time. His eyes darted across the newspaper headline, shaking slightly as he saw a photo of himself fighting with his parents. The article vaguely described the fight with Box Ghost, witness accounts of how well they teamed up with each other. He let out a shaking breath, looking up to his family in disbelief.
Jazz's amused smile dropped as she saw the series of emotions rolling across her brother's face. Her parents seemed to notice too, because they moved toward Danny gently, her father taking the paper away from him and her mother putting a hand on his shoulder.
"I… Does this mean…" he stammered, looking between the two of them.
Maddie nodded. "We'll announce it tomorrow," she confirmed softly.
Jack barked a laugh. "I mean, it just makes it official now, we've been kicking ghost butt together for a while."
"You're really…" Danny said breathlessly. His blue eyes locked with Jazz's teal ones, and in that moment she realized what this truly meant to him. They're accepting me?
"They are Danny," Jazz said gently. She walked over to the rest of her family, keeping her eyes locked to her brother's. "After tomorrow, the Fentons will officially have a truce with Phantom. No more pandering, no more worrying about Vlad telling the town you overshadowed them." She reached him, giving him a small smile. "You don't have to carry this anymore."
Danny's legs buckled, sending him crashing down to the carpet at her words. The Fentons gathered around him, waiting until he could finally voice his thoughts.
It had been months since they found out the truth. For Danny, it took months to fully realize that they accepted him.
It was the end of an era.
