I saw the highwayman,

Kiss her beautiful hair

I sneered and thought,

"Oh, how he will pay."

I traveled to the quarters

Into the Redcoats lair

I told them about the man

As I thought of his despair

I took their horses

As they came into the inn

And I watched with glee

As they stayed that night

But my feelings turned to hate

As they bound my love there

My eyes took in with horror

At what would surely be.

As she fought to reach the trigger

Of the gun laid on her bed

As I heard the shot ring out

Into the still, still night

I quickly rushed to her

Even while I saw

A redcoat raise his gun

In my last moment

The last thing I saw

Was my love looking out the window

Wearing an expression of utter happiness

As she knew her love was safe.
