Timeline: Set after the Cullen family leaves. Harry Clearwater isn't dead in my story.
Chapter 4
Days turn into nights. Then, days turned into weeks. Soon, weeks turned to one full month. Paul, Embry, and Quil kept finding themselves back at the same spot where the woman had disappeared to. Sometimes it was just one of them. Other times, two of them would accidentally end up in the area at the same time. When it was all three of them in the clearing together, they would just stand at the spot, look at one another, then leave disheartened. The twinges of pain all over their body never went away.
At the Clearwater's house, things weren't fairing well. Each one was trying to find ways to keep Seth warm. When he would awaken, his eyes had a far away look. When he fell asleep, it was the most fit full sleep a twelve year old should have. Both Harry and Sue looked at Seth in worry. The had asked Old Quil to look into it, but each time he did, he was blocked by something black and dark.
Leah, she took it the worst. She refused to talk to anyone but her parents and Seth. Her newly obtained ability of having a high body temperature helped stabilized Seth's own. At night, she would sneak into Seth's bed to sleep beside him to assure to herself that he wasn't dead. She would whisper reassuring words to him as she drifted off to sleep.
--
Dark brown eyes blinked opened as she let out a soft moan. She then heard startled chirps as something fell backwards. Turning her head, Maya could see three blobs. One black, one white, and one pink. The black one was helping the white one get back up. Smiling softly to them, she lifted her arm to rub the top of the pink one.
"Glad to see that you're all safe," she muttered.
The black and white blobs chirped animatedly as the pink one purred underneath her fingers. Maya looked around the room and realized that she was sleeping on the wooden floor with a spare blanket on top of her. Hanging above her was a ceiling light that had been turned off. In front of her were floor to ceiling windows that lined the wall, letting in the sun's warm rays. The curtains were pulled back to show a patio with dead bushes and a fence that was falling apart. Pulling the blankets away from her, she sat up. Giving herself a once over, she saw that everything was healed.
Glancing at the blobs, she muttered, "Thank you."
Seeing her shoes not far away, she stood up to pick it up. That's when she saw the top of the fireplace. In the center, on a moss covered branch was a familiar necklace being displayed. Maya quickly brought her fingers to her neck and sure enough the necklace was gone. Maya turned to the blobs.
"Give it back," she demanded.
The black one chirped at her, not relenting.
Maya clenched her fist, "If I find a replacement?"
The black blob looked at her then the white one. It turned back to look at Maya and gave a single nod.
Putting her shoes on, Maya swung the front door opened. When Maya stepped outside the house, she saw paw prints carved into the wooden porch. Frowning, she followed the paw prints and it took her to the front of the garage. Her eyes widened in amazement. The garage door was made of wood, and there was a mural of a wolf pack carved into the wood. There were three wolves surrounding a lit fire, while more were howling at the moon.
Hearing the familiar sound of her black sedan approaching, she turned around to see that no one was inside it. 'This is for the best,' she thought.
Entering the car, she felt a buzz in her shoe. Reaching down, she pulled out her cellphone. On the screen were 10 missed calls and 1 unread message. All were from John. She opened the message and it read: You got some explaining to do young lady.
The edges of her lips quirked up as she sent a reply. Be in La Push in 15.
She put her phone away and saw the drawn map still on top of her briefcase. Putting the car on reverse, she began to exit the driveway. She frowned when she saw black smoke seeping out from the seams of the mailbox. 'Of course it is,' she thought as she continued driving.
After fifteen minutes, she parked in front of a small cabin shop. Hanging over the door was a hand carved sign: Little Carvers. Making sure the car was locked, Maya walked up the steps of the porch and to the door. As she pulled the door opened, a young man with a buzz cut was facing inside the store instead of forward.
"I'll see you later Grand-," he said only to barrel into her. The young man's eyes widened in surprised as he heard a soft oof and quickly reacted.
Maya's eyes widened when she found herself falling backwards, only to be caught by extremely warm hands. Her eyes met the brown eyes of the young man. She recognized those eyes as something inside her hummed. From the corners of her eyes, she saw the same chocolate brown wolf in the forest. Except this time, it was slightly transparent.
"Grandson, you nearly toppled the young woman over," a gentle voice said from inside the store.
The young man slowly righted her up. "Sorry. Didn't see you there," he said awkwardly while trying to place his large hands into his pocket. When they could not fit, he opted to run one hand over his neck in embarrassment.
"No harm done," she said as she made sure to ignore the towering transparent wolf that was coming closer to her with each passing second.
"My name is Quil the Fifth Ateara, aka Quil Jr., you can just call me Quil," he said as he gestured towards inside the shop, "See that person over there?" Quil asked as he pointed out to the elderly man behind the counter. The elderly man waved hello. Maya recognized him from the colored photo she had seen at the Quileute Tribal Council building. She waved back as Quil said, "Thats my Grandpa, Quil the Third, aka Old Quil." Quil turned to grin at her. "Welcome to Little Carvers. Did you need help finding anything?"
"Thank you, but I'm just perusing for now," she replied.
Quil's eyes lost a bit of it's warmth, but it quickly came back just as fast. "Let me know if you have any questions. I'll be here in the store."
Maya raised an eyebrow at him. Earlier it had looked like he was ready to leave. Deciding not to ask, she said, "Will do."
As Maya walked towards the opposite end of the store, away from the large transparent wolf and the young man, she looked at the hand carved wooden figurines of different animals. Some were eagles, others were bears. Most of them, she realized, were of wolves. Before she knew it, she had ten wolves in her hands. Four loud voices made her pause. She looked up to see four familiar faces enter the shop.
The slender one asked, "Quil, what's the hold up? We're missing out on Emily's cooking."
The man's voice trailed away as she felt two more pair of eyes on her. Maya tried to focus on the figurines in front of her but couldn't. Walking towards her were the same two large transparent wolves from the grocery store and their human counterparts. She turned down the aisle to look at some wooden foxes.
'Two was excessive enough. Why three?' Maya thought as she heard the door swung opened.
In walked a young woman with short pixie hair. Despite the still chilly weather, she was dressed in a simple yellow dress and some sandals. Walking beside her was a slightly transparent wolf. The tall copper skinned woman walked towards the counter and spoke to Old Quil, ignoring the group of young men completely.
Maya blinked at the woman and sighed as she looked at the figurine in front of her. 'You got yourself into a real doozy Maya,' she thought to herself.
Maya heard the voices of the young men get louder only to be shushed. Ignoring them, she walked into another aisle. The doors opened again and Maya heard familiar tiny feet running towards her. A soft weight bumped into her as Maya looked down to see Will hugging her legs.
"Mama!" Will cried out.
"Hey there pumpkin," Maya said, happy to see him. "Where's-."
"Maya!" John face showed his anger and worry as soon as he entered the shop. John paused as he heard a warning growl. Looking around the shop, he saw two tall men about his age with white shirts and black shorts standing on one side of the shop. Three, dressed similarly, were in different aisles and were staring him down. He noted their positions, which looked like they were trying to box Maya in.
Even more worried, John looked at Maya only to see a young woman behind her. Standing in front of the counter was a woman that made his breath stop. When their eyes met, he felt all the bonds connecting to everyone in his life reattach themselves to her. He felt soft chains attach themselves to him too. John's eyes widened at the same time woman's did.
Seeing Maya walking to him with a gentle knowing gaze, he muttered, "I, we, she-."
Maya grinned as she lifted her fingers up to gently flicked him on his forehead. She heard a low growl from behind her but ignored it. "I know," she muttered.
John smiled as he hugged her, relieved. Everyone froze when four sets of growls were heard. One was feminine, while the others masculine. John looked at Maya in amusement before stepping back. His large slightly transparent wolf was looking at the slightly transparent wolf beside the woman with the pixie cut. The female transparent wolf was looking back as well.
"Did you need something, brother of mine?" Maya asked.
John felt more than saw as the woman he had imprinted on relaxed slightly. His eyes gave Maya a 'we will talk about what you did' look before grinning at her. "We saw the car and was wondering if we can go grab some food."
Maya laughed and said, "It should be opened."
John grinned and took a hold of Will's hand. Remembering what they talked about on their way into town, John said, "Go on kiddo. Ask her what you just asked me."
Will looked up at Maya and asked, "Can we go to the beach today, Mama?" At her frown, Will showed his best puppy dog eyes. "Please?"
John soon joined in, "Please?"
Maya laughed at the two and relented. "Okay," she said. "But on one condition." The two nodded. "Dress warm, and make sure you bring extra towels and clothes. Don't forget to put on sunblock too."
John laughed, "Have you've seen the sun since we've arrived, Maya?"
Maya rolled her eyes. "UV rays still penetrate John."
John grinned as Will pulled his hand from his hold. Will went to hug Maya around her legs. "Thank you."
Rubbing the tops of his head, she said, "Anytime." Maya gave John a nod as the duo walked towards the door. "Don't forget to lock the car behind you," she called out.
"Okay," the two chimed back.
Maya sighed and looked around the shop to see seven pairs of eyes on her. They quickly averted their gaze. Ignoring them, she walked towards the counter. Old Quil, she recalled, was waiting patiently behind the counter, staring at her. Maya tried her best not to make direct eye contact. She could feel the magic flowing through him. Much like how he probably felt hers when she entered the shop. Sometimes, magic sensed other magic like that.
When Maya got to the counter, the tall woman with a pixie cut didn't budge. It looked like she was in a daze. As Maya placed the wooden wolf figurines on the counter, Quil went to stand beside his grandfather and gave her a smile. He glanced down at the wooden figurine and took in a sharp breath. In the middle was a golden-brown wolf. It was the largest figurine amongst the others. On the right side of the golden-brown wolf were five wolves. One was dark silver; another was chocolate brown with a lighter brown face. Next to that one was a pale gray wolf with black spots. At the end was a wooden figurine with two wolves. A smaller light gray wolf was tucked beside a black wolf with white spots. On the right side of the golden wolf were four more wolves. Two of the wolf figurines had a female human standing next to them with their hands on the wolves back. One of the wolf was jet black, while the other one was dark brown with a darker face. Next to those were four smaller wolf figurines, almost like pups. One was a sand-colored, and the other was golden-brown with russet brown spots. The two smallest pups were the same size. One was dark ashy brown and the other reddish brown fur with darker paws.
Quil looked at the young woman in shock before sharing a look with his Grandfather. Most of the figurines had an uncanny resemblance to the pack. Quil didn't know whether to be awed, freaked out, or scared. He didn't want to overanalyze the sculptures she chose, but he's been helping his Grandfather long enough with spiritual ceremonies to know that nothing was a coincidence.
The doors to the shop opened. Maya turned around wondering if it was John and Will again. Instead, a man in his forties appeared in the doorway. She recognized him from the colored photo. However, he was in a wheelchair being pushed by a young man. Maya froze at seeing a large, barely-there transparent wolf. It was larger than any of the transparent wolves she's seen before, but it did not have the same glow as the others.
Stark white arms with large flaky cracks were wrapped around the shoulders of the young man. Its face was in the nook between his right shoulder and neck. Its head shook back and forth, as if gnawing on the young man's flesh. Its hair fell down the side of its head and touched the floors.
Walking beside the young man was a pale, sickly looking young woman. She had a black, goopy rope tied around her legs, arms, and torso. A black cloak was wrapped around her eyes. Maya could see the goopy rope splitting to become two. One trailed out underneath the door of the shop, while the other was connected to the creature hanging onto the young man.
'Everything is making sense now,' Maya thought as she watched a tall, glowing blue, transparent man follow behind the trio.
Small braids were protruding underneath the grayish wolf mask he had over his head. Maya could tell that he was displeased with the young man, judging by how he was yelling at him. Though no one could hear or see the tall glowing man except her.
Maya stiffened when she saw the black creature lift its head from the shoulder of the young man. Dripping from its mouth was golden ooze, evidence that it had been gorging on the wolf spirit. The creature sniffed and looked straight at the group of men with its black soulless eyes, before moving its gaze towards the woman standing beside Maya. The three smaller slightly transparent wolves shrunk back towards their human. Knowing the creature can harm them. The three larger transparent wolves growled and took a defensive posture. The largest transparent wolf belonging to the young man pushing the wheelchair let out its own pitiful growl.
'At least you have some fight left in you,' Maya thought as she stepped closer to the woman with pixie cut.
Six translucent golden wolves appeared. They immediately went towards the six transparent wolves. Three stood beside the larger transparent wolves, and the other three took a protective stance in front of the smaller transparent wolves. Effectively hiding the wolf spirits from the creature. None of the golden wolves walked towards the largest wolf spirit in the front of the store. The creature had sucked so much life force from him that it was slowly dying. Maya watched as the creature placed it's head back to the crook of the neck of the young man. No longer interested in the others.
The tall glowing man with a wolf mask paused to look at Maya in shock. His eyes widened when he realized what she was as he muttered something she did not understand.
Maya ignored the tall glowing man and turned towards Quil. "I'll be right back," she said. "I'm just going to grab one more."
Quil nodded, feeling worried for some reason. He had been watching how her eyes shift to different areas of the stores. Each time he followed her gaze, he didn't see anything. However, his wolf would not stop growling the minute he saw Bella, just like the first time he saw her when he phased. Quil gave Embry and Paul a glance. During their accidental meetups in the clearing, they spoke about things that differed between them and the rest of their pack brothers. Their wolf growling each time they saw Bella was a common trait their wolves shared. They weren't sure if the rest of the pack felt the same so they kept it between themselves.
--
Keeping her eye on the creature, Maya stood not too far from the newcomers who had entered the shop. Feigning interest in the wooden figurines in front of her, she followed the movement of the creature as it looked up again. The creature sniffed, then turned its head around the shop. Searching. The door closed as a family of three continued into the shop with a two-year-old girl. The creature locked eyes with the child. Maya narrowed her eyes as the creature loosen its hold on the young man, leaving black markings wherever it had touched his skin. The creature started to follow the toddler.
'It's smart enough to smell and see prey,' Maya analyzed. 'Strong enough to detach itself from it's main food source to find another too.'
Maya saw the toddler openly stare at the creature. Partly terrified and partly curious at the same time. Dangerous combinations to have amongst children her age. Maya watched as the young man pushed the man in the wheelchair further into the store. This allowed the creature to walk closer to the toddler. Wherever it stepped, black ooze was left behind.
'There's a limit to how far it can travel,' Maya thought as she frowned at the creature.
"Excuse us," she heard the man in the wheelchair say. She turned to look at them. As her eyes met the young man's gaze, she felt something deep inside of her hum strongly. Towering above her, she saw the barely-there transparent wolf become a bit more physical as it looked at her with intensity. The black markings on the young man's body began to fade away as well.
"Oh, sorry about that," Maya said as she placed the figurine back and walked out of the aisle for them to pass through.
Maya felt someone's stare. She looked to see the sickly young woman glaring at her. Low warning growls were heard but was quickly silenced by a deeper growl. Maya quirked an eyebrow at the sickly young woman, who quickly retreated in shame at being caught staring. Ignoring the young woman for now, Maya walked towards the aisle where the family of three was. On one end of the aisle was the creature, on the other was her. As she entered the aisle, so did the creature. Maya could see black ooze dripping down its lips to mix with the golden ooze on its chin. It has chosen. Just as the creature was about to place its gooey fingers on the toddler, Maya stepped forward and crouched down. Blocking both from seeing one another.
"Excuse me," she said, pointing to the figurines behind the toddler.
"Oh, sorry," the mother of the child said as she gently pulled her daughter away from Maya.
Focusing on the creature, Maya grabbed the first wooden figurine her fingers had touched. As the family left the shop, the creature looked around in confusion. No longer sensing the tasty morsel that captured its attention, the creature sauntered back to the young man. When it's goopy fingers touched his skin, it shrieked in horror as black smoke appeared on the tips of its fingers. With anger, the creature bellowed and thrashed around, pulling on the black goopy rope attached to the sickly young woman.
--
"Jake, can we go?" Bella rasped out.
The young man blinked in surprised, shook his head to clear his mind, and nodded. "Yeah, sure Bella," he mumbled distractedly. "You good here dad?" he asked looking at Billy.
Billy internally sighed and said, "I'm good here, son." As much as he loved his best friend's daughter, sometimes, he felt, she could be a little too much. He tried to warn her about her vampire friend, only to learn that they were dating. Then the vampire broke her heart. And now this. He knew that she was going to break his own son's heart. Nodding to Sam and the others inside the shop. They nodded back. "I can always ask one of the boys to take me home."
Jacob gave him an apologetic smile and followed Bella towards the door. As he opened the door to let her out, he looked back at the petite woman with short black frizzy hair. He did not know what that was a few minutes ago. It felt like an imprint but it also didn't. Whatever it was, he wasn't going to give up on Bella for a random stranger.
As he closed the door, he felt cold hands touch his arm. He surprised himself at the sudden urge to recoil away from her touch as his wolf growled in warning, telling him that the woman was dangerous. He shushed his wolf, telling him that this was Bella. Bella who he has known since he was four. Bella would not harm anyone.
"You okay?" Bella asked drearily.
Jacob nodded and forced himself to act natural. "Just hungry."
Bella let out a weak laugh. "You're always hungry, Jake."
Jacob shrugged. "Let's go," he said.
As they got into the black truck, Jacob could not help it but to look back at the shop as they drove away.
--
Maya let out a soft sigh and walked towards the counter, passing the tall glowing man with the wolf mask over his head. His eyes followed her, curious and wary at the same time. Maya ignored him as he talked. Even if she chose not to ignore him, she would be unable to say anything back because she did not understand what the language he was speaking.
'He wants you to stay,' Maya heard a soft, older, feminine voice entered her mindscape.
Maya turned to see the closest golden wolf walk closer to her. It was standing next to the larger wolf belonging to Quil. The golden wolf rubbed its head against her body as Maya hmmed and continued to the counter. 'Not my call to make,' she replied to the golden wolf.
As if he heard, the glowing transparent man cupped the edges of his mouth and howled to the rooftops of the store. Maya tensed as smaller glowing blue wolves appeared then shifted into their human forms. They were blocking all the exit points and looking at her expectantly.
Maya narrowed her eyes at the tall glowing transparent man. She knew who he was now. 'It's not my decision,' she repeated, but directly at the Guardian Wolf Spirit of La Push. Instead of the humongous wolf spirit that usually kept watch over the land, the guardian spirit had taken on a human form inside the shop.
Displeased by her words, the glowing transparent man walked towards her with purposeful strides. Maya stiffened but held her ground. The man stopped right in front of her until they were almost nose to nose. He looked at her and two words entered her mindscape clear as day.
'Alpha female.'
With a blink, he and all the blue glowing wolf spirits disappeared.
Maya could only stare in shock.
'This is one you cannot walk away from,' the same soft femine voice said.
'You were chosen,' a deep male's gruff voice added.
Maya internally sighed but nodded. All the golden wolves came to her and rubbed against her. 'Until next time,' Maya told them.
'Until next time,' they all said before fading away.
Seeing everyone looking at her, Maya was reminded where she was currently at. She internally cursed and let out a sigh. "So much for not acting like a crazy nutjob," she muttered to herself.
Paul, Embry, and Quil frowned at her. They didn't like it when she insulted herself.
"I think I'm done," she said as she placed the russet brown wolf figurine with the others on the counter.
Old Quil gave her an encouraging smile. While he couldn't see it, he had felt something strong and powerful occur in his little shop. From how he has been studying Quil and what his grandson had told him a month ago, he could only assume that this was the woman bonded to his grandson and two other pack brothers.
As Old Quil ranged her up, Quil wrapped the items in newspaper. Maya looked everywhere but at the people in the shop. She ignored the soft whines and kept her gaze on the register.
"Did you need help taking this to your car?" Quil asked, in hopes to get her to look at him. He didn't like how she was purposefully ignoring his gaze.
Maya looked up to see him smiling at her, which she couldn't help but return one of her own. Albeit small. She looked at the third bag he was placing the figurines into. There were five more wooden figurines on the counter. If she took all the bags herself, there was a possibility of the figurines being damaged. She internally sighed.
"If you don't mind," she said softly.
His face brightened as his smile turned into a full grin, displaying sharp canines. "Not at all," he said as he continued wrapping the pieces in newspaper. "I didn't catch your name."
"I didn't give it," she said as she turned to see the tall pixie haired woman move to the far side of the counter to her left. The man in the wheelchair was being pushed towards the counter by the tall copper skinned man. Beside them were the rest of the young men she had seen at Thriftway earlier that day. "It's Maya, Maya Wong."
Quil grinned at her. "Nice to meet you, Maya. As I said, my name is Quil. Quil Ateara" He pointed to the elderly man, "This is my Grandpa, Old Quil"
Seeing as how he wasn't going to introduce the rest of them, Paul walked to Maya's left side and said, "I'm Paul." He leaned towards her and looked at her up and down. "Paul Lahote."
Maya quirked an eyebrow him and said, "Hi Paul." For some reason, she had a feeling that he wasn't checking out her physique. There was some emotion akin to worry being shown in his eyes.
"I'm Embry Call," said a voice to her right, making her pull her gaze away from Paul. Maya saw a slender man standing close to her, giving her a bright smile. His hands looked like he wanted to reach over to her but had to prevent himself by clenching his fists.
"Hi Embry," Maya said giving him a small smile as she looked between the two men who were beginning to close in on her. Taking a glance at Quil, she could see that the only reason why he couldn't do the same was because of the counter. He was giving her the same intense look the other two were.
Maya heard someone huff. "Will you give her some room," a feminine voice demanded as Maya felt warm hands grab her. Maya looked over her shoulder to see the woman with pixie cut next to her. "I'm Leah Clearwater," she said, giving Maya a small hesitant smile.
Maya grinned at her. "Hi Leah." Leah relaxed a bit.
Surprised that Leah was attempting to make a friend of her own volition, everyone looked at Leah in shock. Noticing their gaze, Leah growled out, "What?"
Everyone looked somewhere else. Leah grumbled as Jared waved at Maya. "I'm Jared Cameron, nice to meet you."
Maya nodded. "Nice to meet you."
"I'm Sam Uley," the taller copper man said from behind the man in the wheelchair. Maya felt Leah tense slightly behind her. "This is Chief William Black."
Billy laughed, "You can just call me Billy."
Maya nodded and said hello to the Sam and Billy. She could feel strong magic coming from both of them. Sam had the magic of an alpha, but he didn't have a scent of one. The young man who had left with the sickly woman had both the scent and magic of an alpha. The same magic and scent coming from Billy, though his was dampened slightly.
'Interesting,' she thought.
Seeing the remaining wooden figurines on the counter, Billy said, "You chose some wonderful pieces."
"Thank you," Maya said. "I'm hoping they'll make great additions to the new home."
"Did you just move to Forks?" Billy asked.
Paul, Quil, and Embry listened, curious. Sam and Jared sent them confused looks, which they ignored.
Leah tried her best to look uninterested, but Old Quil gave her a knowing look, which she blatantly ignored. So what if she might be curious of her own imprint. She caught Sam's confused gaze, which she rolled her eyes to. 'Fuck off Sam,' she thought.
"We did," Maya replied as she waited for Quil to wrap the last few figurines.
Billy nodded. "That's great. My best friend lives in Forks. I can ask him if his daughter will be free to show you around." Low growls were heard. Billy looked at them in surprised. "Or…I can ask one of the young people here to show you around."
Maya laughed and smiled at him. "Thank you, but that'll have to wait until next time." Billy nodded as Maya took two bags from the counter and Quil took the remaining three. "It was nice meeting you all."
Everyone nodded. "Nice meeting you too Maya!" two voices called out.
Maya gave them a smile before following Quil out the door. Once they got to the car, she opened the trunk. Quil saw one of the back seat folded flat with a pillow and a brown blanket. Other than that, the trunk was completely empty.
'How odd?' Quil thought. 'I thought the dude said that there was food. Maybe he took it all.'
"Sorry for the mess," Maya said. "It was a long drive."
"No worries," Quil said.
'This isn't what I would call a mess,' he thought.
He placed the bags into the trunk, while Maya placed hers in. "Where'd you guys move from?"
"Alaska," Maya answered.
Quil's eyes widened. "And you guys drove all the way here?"
Maya laughed and shrugged. "The drive wasn't too bad. My brother and I took turns driving."
"Was your brother the one who came into the shop with your son?" Quil asked.
Maya glanced at him and he quickly backtrailed. "Sorry. I just heard him calling you Mama."
Maya chuckled, "No, no. It's okay." Maya smiled sadly before replacing it with a brighter one. "I adopted him, but he's still mine regardless." Maya turned to shuffle the bags as she muttered, "They both are family."
Quil could only look at her in awe as she closed the trunk. "Thanks for the help," she said.
"Yeah, anytime," Quil grinned down at her as they went to the driver's side of the car. Maya opened it and got in. Before she could close it, he quickly added, "If you need help moving heavy furniture around your house or ever want to take up the offer of being shown around, you know where to find me."
Maya laughed and nodded. "Will do," she said as she closed the door.
Quil walked backwards to the curb as he watched Maya reverse the car. She gave him a wave bye, and he waved bye as well. As she left, he frowned. His wolf felt uneasy as if something has was going to happen.
Feeling two familiar warmth standing beside him, he whispered, "So?"
Embry and Paul looked at one another, unsure. After a few long minutes, Paul mumbled, "If I have to share, its better you two than anyone else."
"Jacob felt the pull too," Embry reminded them. He had felt something inside of him hum when he saw Maya meeting Jacob's gaze.
Paul growled in response. "Fuck him. We all know he'd choose the leech lover each and every time."
Embry and Quil did not say anything to refute Paul. He was right. They knew how much Jacob was pining for Bella's love and attention. If it meant Bella was safe and unharmed, Jacob will have no qualms in harming Maya, even if it was emotionally. They bristled at the thought.
"We're at an agreement then." Paul stated.
Embry and Quil nodded. "We'll keep her safe," Embry said.
"Even if it is from Jacob himself," Quil added.
"Good," Paul said.
They all felt something deep inside of them buzz in unison as a sense of warmth spread across their body. They looked at one another surprised. Then a voice behind them scared them though they tried not to show it.
"Do you even know where she lives?"
They turned around to see Leah standing there, leaning on one foot with her arms crossed. While she did not enjoy the shared pack mind, she did not mind some aspects of turning into a wolf. One of them was making her six foot tall. She had always wanted to be tall when she was younger. Another was knowing when danger was near. Bella? She screamed danger. Maya? Oddly enough, she reminded Leah of a calm comforting rainstorm. As a plus, her imprint, she had just learned, was Maya's brother. It took her by surprised when she felt him imprint on her, and her on him. It had never happened before in the past. Then again, no female has ever phased in the past either, based on what her mother had told her. When she saw her imprint leave, she felt a strong pull to go with him. She needed answers and the only way she was going to get them was to go straight to the source. Unfortunately, the only way to get to him currently was through his sister it seems. If it meant teaming up with the rowdy bunch, by all means she will.
"No," Paul answered, but he gave Leah a smug look. "I know where to start though."
