Swiping her blade through the last of the thick, tangled vines, Esmerelda stepped through the small opening she had just made and onto a muddy trail. Pushing away a few overreaching fronds, she scanned the sopping ground. Dotted here and there between the murky brown puddles of water that pooled in patches along the ground were a mixture of large and tiny footprints. A game trail for sure, she noted, before looking back up to scan the surrounding area. There was no movement in the thick jungle foliage that surrounded her, and the sounds of the chattering birds and occasional cries of the larger macaws still peppered the air. Bringing up her wrist, she tapped on the datapad and checked her map. Looking up, Esmerelda squinted into the distance. Somewhere ahead was her target...or at least she thought.
Lifting up her machete again, she pressed forward into the jungle's entwined depths.
