The mist surrounded them making it so that they could not see more than a yard ahead. Anna felt a prickle on her back, and she realized that she was being pushed forward. Elsa, Olaf, Kristoff and Sven also felt it.
"The ice is reforming!" Elsa shouted as she grabbed her sister's hand, and they all ran forward.
They burst and fell forward out of the mist.
"Are you okay Elsa?" Anna asked as she looked her sister over.
"Yes, I am fine." Elsa said as she got up and started to brush herself down.
Anna turned to the rest of them. "Kristoff, Olaf, Sven? Are all of you all, right?" She asked and they all nodded as they all stood up shakily, Anna quickly ran over to help Kristoff.
"I thought we would be frozen solid in there." Kristoff said in relief and then he looked up and his eyes went wide. Anna fallowed his gaze. Elsa was also staring in shock, and Olaf and Sven looked around worried.
They were in the forest, that part was certain. But all the trees were baren. Not a single leaf was on their branches and not one was touching the ground.
"We are in the middle of spring, aren't we?" Olaf asked quietly.
"The start of it to be exact, but still…" Anna said as she looked around. Her heart clenched. Something was wrong here. She looked up and noticed that although the forest was shrouded in a light mist, there was still enough sunlight piercing through to help the trees grow.
"Ah-ah-ah-ah."
Elsa turned her head. The voice was so clear now that she was in the forest. She could pinpoint exactly where it was coming from.
"Ah-ah-ah-ahh, ah-ah."
Something caught Anna's eye and she moved forward. She came to a cliff side that overlooked a humongous dam.
"Thank goodness it is still standing." Kristoff said as he came up behind her.
"What?" Anna asked as she turned to him. He looked at her a little bewildered.
"Well, um, if that thing breaks, then everything on this fjord will be washed away."
"But Arendelle is on this fjord?" Anna said worried.
"I know, but look, it is still in great condition, it would take something massive to tear that thing down." Kristoff said as he reassured her.
Anna smiled gratefully and looked behind him to see her sister looking around excitedly.
"Grand Pabbie sent me because he is worried about Elsa." Anna confessed.
"Wait what?" Kristoff said as he glanced back.
"He thinks she and Ahtohalla are connected somehow, and he already lost Ahtohalla so he is afraid the same might happen to Elsa." Anna said. She knew that was not exactly what he had said but Anna could tell it in his eyes. A friend that he had lost a long time ago was suddenly calling a girl who had similar powers to her.
"I understand." Kristoff said as he gave her a squeeze around the shoulders. "We will protect her together."
Anna smiled up at him. "Just promise to take care of yourself as well."
He nodded and the two of them headed back to Elsa.
"Elsa!" Anna yelled to get her sisters attention as she grabbed her arm.
"What?" Elsa said as she broke out of her trance.
"You were just out of it, are you sure you are, okay?" Anna asked worried.
"Yeah, I am fine." Elsa said as she once more gazed around them. "I can feel the magic in this place."
Kristoff and Anna looked around but felt nothing. Anna just felt sorrow and loneliness while Kristoff was put off by the terrible shape the forest was in.
"Where is Olaf?" Anna asked as she noticed the absence of his chipper voice. Elsa and Kristoff looked and then they all started to call out for him when he was not in their sight.
Suddenly they all got swept up into a tornado.
"Hey guys!" Olaf shouted over the roaring wind. "I found the Wind Spirit!"
"We realized that!" Kristoff shouted as he spun in the air.
A large branch flew towards Anna and Elsa quickly shot her magic at it.
A whistling could be heard, and Elsa felt leaves and wind wrap around her wrists.
"Stop that." Elsa said annoyed.
A shift could be felt through the tornado.
Anna could feel the rage that rippled through it before Kristoff, Olaf, Sven, and her were suddenly dropped onto the ground.
Anna looked up and saw a ball of wind swirling in the air.
"Elsa!" Anna shouted when she realized that her sister was still trapped in the Wind Spirit's tornado.
Elsa was spinning uncontrollably. She summoned her powers and thrust her hands out. Her ice met the wind and started to freeze the air.
The Spirit slammed her down onto the ground. The wind pressed down on her from all sides. Elsa looked up and images made out of the wind and ice swirled above her head.
People running. A man swinging his sword. Her grandfather, "For Rita".
The images danced around Elsa in the wind.
The wind was pushing everything back.
Anna and Kristoff tried to move forward but it was practically imposable.
"Anna, we have to get back!" Kristoff shouted at her.
"That's my sister in there!" Anna shouted. She would not abandon Elsa. Mustering all of her strength she managed to take a step forward.
The wind shifted. It swirled upward in front of her. A large threatening creature made out of fallen branches and twigs loomed over her. It growled and it was like the sound of a storm.
Kristoff flinched and was swept back by the wind. In the corner of her eye Anna could see Olaf and Sven cowering.
But Anna didn't move. The Spirit was the one who grabbed them and was now holding her sister hostage, and now it was acting like Anna was the one who was some kind of threat. Trying to scare her away.
No, Anna would not back down.
"Put my sister down now!" Anna demanded as she met the Spirit's gaze.
The creature looked at her in shock before its form burst and scattered. The ball of wind had turned to an icy blue and exploded, knocking Anna back.
Elsa stood there panting. She wobbled a bit, but Anna quickly got up and ran to her.
"Elsa!" Anna shouted as she steadied her sister.
"I am all right." Elsa said as she regained her breath. It was then that the two sisters noticed what had appeared around them.
Statues. Ice statues that almost looked like they were in motion.
Kristoff, Olaf and Sven slowly walked towards the two sisters as they all examined the sculptors.
"What is this?" Kristoff asked as he looked at an ice stag.
"Isn't this Ahtohalla's powers?" Olaf said as he stretched his hands out towards a frozen fire.
"Remind us of what those are again." Anna asked as she still looked around.
"Well, earth has the same supply of water all the time. It goes up into the air and then rains down somewhere else. Then it always finds a way back into the ocean. On its way it collects memories and when it reaches Ahtohallan, Ahtohalla can conjure up those memorize with her powers of ice." Olaf explained.
"You have been reading too much." Kristoff said but still did not deny anything.
"These are moments in time." Elsa said entranced, she then noticed a particular ice statue in the middle of a clearing.
"Anna, look." She said as she walked over to it. Anna followed her gaze and saw what had caught her sister's attention. When Anna saw it, she ran to catch up with Elsa.
"Is it?" Anna asked as she and Elsa approached the statue.
"It's mother and father." Elsa said happily.
The statue showed a young Agnarr as he laid unconscious while Iduna cradled him. They were being lifted up into the air by something invisible.
"But who saved them?" Anna asked as she looked around.
Elsa was still studying the statue. She smiled at her parents. This was the place they had met and maybe even fallen in love. She still remembered the last thing they had said to her, "You will be fine Elsa", they had believed in her, and now she was here.
Anna was still looking around when she noticed something. It was a glimmer of ice behind a tree.
"Whoa!" Kristoff shouted in surprise as he was lifted off the ground. A swirl of leaves holding him up. Then he was placed down, and the leaves danced around Olaf before coming over to Anna and Elsa.
"Is this the wind Spirit?" Anna asked as it lifted her braids up.
Elsa smiled as she stretched out her hands to feel the wind. "Are you calm now?" She asked. The wind replied by lifting her cloak and throwing it over her head.
"Seems a bit mischievous, doesn't it?" Anna asked Elsa as she cupped her hands and the leaves swirled in her palms. Elsa just laughed as she threw her cape back.
"So magical, I think I am going to call you Gale." Olaf said as he was lifted into the air.
"Do you mind if we call you Gale?" Anna asked looking up at the air.
A soft whistling noise could be heard, and everyone knew that the wind Spirit liked its new name. A soft breeze blew over them.
Suddenly noise could be heard. Branches began move and they all knew something was coming.
Kristoff ran up to the two sisters and got into a stance to protect them. Elsa raised her hands and Anna quickly grabbed a frozen sword off an ice statue of a guard. They all backed up as suddenly through the branches a bunch of people jumped forward and pointed spears at them.
"Who are you." An older woman with white hair demanded of them.
Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff all looked at them.
"The Northuldran?" Anna said aloud.
"They are alive." Kristoff exclaimed in disbelief.
Loud clanging rang out and the three of them turned as a bunch of Arendelle guards marched forward, clanging their swords against their shields.
"Threatening my people Lieutenant?" The white-haired woman said.
"Invading my dance place Yelena?" The Soldier in front countered.
"Arendelle guards?" Anna said in surprise and then stared heard at the man in front. "You look familiar."
"Hey guys! What did I miss?" Olaf asked as he walked into the clearing.
Everyone screamed. A soldier ran forward and sliced Olaf's head off. His head went flying and landed in the arms of a young Northuldran who screamed and through his head after Olaf said hi to him. Soon it was like everyone was playing hot potato with his head.
Elsa raised her hands and shot ice at the ground. Everyone fell backwards and Olaf went and grabbed his head.
"Magic, did you see that? That was magic." The Lieutenant said in amazement.
"Yes, I have eyes." The lady called Yelena said as she got up.
"We mean you no harm." Elsa said confidently. She waved her hand to evaporate the ice so everyone could stand up with ease.
"Who are you?" The young Northuldran asked as he stared at Elsa suspiciously.
"I am queen Elsa of Arendelle." Elsa said and then gestured to everyone. "This is my sister Anna, and my friends Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven."
"Queen of Arendelle?" The Lieutenant asked.
"Lieutenant Mattias!" Anna exclaimed.
"Excuse me what?" He exclaimed in shock. "Do you know me?"
"Fifth picture in the library." Anna said. "You were one of the guards that a companied our grandfather to the Enchanted Forest."
The soldier stared at Anna.
"Who are you people?" The Northuldran asked.
"Well, why don't you let me explain." Olaf said as he stepped forward. "Elsa is the queen of Arendelle and the daughter of king Agnarr and granddaughter of king Runeard. She was born with magical powers and accidently awakened the Spirits, so they attacked Arendelle. She is also hearing a voice that has been pestering her for months now so we think it will help us. Anna is her younger sister, I am her creation, and Kristoff and Sven are adopted by trolls. Any questions?"
"Hey!" Kristoff frowned at Olaf.
"Thank you for not telling them our entire back story." Elsa mumbled to Anna who giggled.
"No, I think that explained everything, sort of." Mattias said as he approached Elsa. "Are you really queen of Arendelle?"
"Yes, I am."
"And you were really born with magic?" He asked and Elsa nodded happily.
"Humph, why would nature gift someone from Arendelle with magic?" Yelena said icily.
"Perhaps to make up for the things that your people have done?" Mattias shot back.
"My people would never do something like that." Yelena was visibly offended as she fought with Mattias. "The goddess Freya blessed this forest and my people have lived prosperously in it for decades. Why would we even think about attacking Arendelle? For what?"
"I don't know, maybe you felt threatened by Arendelle and thought that the Spirits would help you in the fight. But you people have forgotten that this forest was born from the battle between Hela and Freya, and that the Spirits represent that chaos." Mattias said angrily.
"How dare you!" Yelena yelled and held up her spear pointing it at him, Mattias raised his sword in answer.
"Whoa, wait!" Anna yelled as she got in between the two of them. Elsa raised her hands to her sister in case she needed to use her powers to protect her.
"Get out of the way girl, you do not know what has happened in this forest." Yelena spoke angerly to Anna.
"And clearly neither do you." Anna said back. Everyone flinched at that. "Listen, we don't know what started that fight, but someone is calling Elsa and they might have the answers and might even lift the mist. Please you have to believe that we are here to help and stop fighting." Anna pleaded.
"Yeah, and who knows, maybe this was all caused by a misunderstanding or a completely unrelated third party." Olaf tried to help.
"Unlikely." Yelena glared at Mattias. Mattias on the other hand lowered his sword.
"Yelena, we have been fighting for years." He looked over at her and then looked at Elsa. "If this young girl can tell us what really happened, do we really want to get in the way. I personally would love to get out of this forest."
Yelena frowned and glanced over Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and then landed her eyes on Kristoff.
"You look like you are from the Eira tribe. What do you think of all of this?"
Kristoff looked flabbergasted. "Well, um, I know you can't trust us, but I really don't think you have many choices left."
Yelena glared at him as she tilted her head quizzically.
"What is your name?" She asked.
"Kristoff Bjorgman."
"Bjorgman?!"
Kristoff nodded. "I know it is not associated with the Eira tribe, my grandfather, Vuovdi Bjorgman, married into the tribe and I inherited his name."
Yelena looked dumbfounded.
"What is it?" Elsa asked her worried.
"Vuovdi Bjorgman was my uncle." Yelena said quietly.
Anna and Elsa both stared at Kristoff and then at Yelena. Everyone else started to do the same, while Yelena just stared at Kristoff, and Kristoff just stared at Yelena with his mouth opened.
"Wait? So, is he my third or fourth cousin removed?" The young Northuldran asked.
"So now that we have revealed that Kristoff is a long lost relative. Now would you believe that we are here to help?" Olaf asked sweetly.
Yelena quickly snapped out of her stare and stood proudly.
"We Northuldran only ever listen to nature. When nature speaks…"
Suddenly a light could be seen as it raced towards them and then suddenly a tree was a blaze.
Yelena looked up at it scared.
"We listen."
Authors notes:
Anna and Elsa are wearing their grey concept art clothing. No reason, I just like those dresses, and I like the fact of Anna and Elsa doing amazing things while in pretty dresses.
