When Anna felt herself hit the water, everything went black.

Anna struggled to swim upward but she didn't feel any of the water, instead, it was like she was floating on air. Her feet touched ground and Anna steadied herself.

It was all black, but a line of glowing blue crystal flowers created a path. Anna walked forward. She saw someone ahead and cautiously approached them. It was a woman dressed in all white with flowing white hair.

"Hello?" Anna called out to her. The woman turned around and smiled at her.

"Hello." Ahtohalla said.

Anna stopped in surprise.

"Your Ahtohalla?"

"Yes I am." Ahtohalla said with a small nod.

Anna rushed forward.

"You're okay! Everyone has been looking for you! Where have you been?" Anna rambled on. Ahtohalla raised her hand and placed it over Anna's mouth, calming her.

"One question at a time." Ahtohalla giggled.

Anna nodded her head. Ahtohalla lowered her hand and Anna asked the one question that had been bugging her.

"Why did you entrap the forest?"

The ice wall was of Ahtohalla's creation. She was the one who trapped the Northuldra and Spirits. And Anna had noticed that the earth Spirits had been searching for something. It was only after she found out what her grandfather had done, that she realized it had been the dam. The dam was weakening the forest, so it did not make any since that the strongest Spirits would not try and destroy it. Unless something was preventing them.

Ahtohalla gave her a sad smile. "Because if I didn't, Arendelle would have been destroyed."

"You allowed your people to live in fear for forty years to save the kingdom of the man who murdered you?"

"Yes."

Anna did not know what to say to that. She was grateful that Ahtohalla had chosen to protect Arendelle, but it was still cruel for the Northuldra.

"Arendelle was filled with innocent lives who had nothing to do with the battle." Ahtohalla explained. "And, I was not just saving them, I was preventing the Spirits and the Northuldra from making the biggest mistake they would have made if they were allowed to attack them. Something I could not prevent your grandfather from doing."

"Revenge, filled with anger and sorrow." Anna whispered in understanding.

Ahtohalla nodded. "To lift the spell, Arendelle did not just have to pay its price. The Northuldra and Spirits had to forgive them as well. Only then can we all move forward."

Anna nodded sadly. She then looked up at Ahtohalla.

Ahtohalla gave her a grin. "Well, to tell you the truth, this was more easily done than you think. I originally had to bring two goddesses together in friendship before. Two kingdoms having petty squabbles was practically a breeze. Especially after I saw how much your parents got along."

"Goddesses?" Anna asked in confusion.

"Yes! I was originally created by Hel and Freya. After Ragnarök they came to this land. They fought for days until they became exhausted. They then decided to create a beautiful but powerful magic forest. They created the Spirits and attached their lives to the forest. I was created to keep them all in line."

"Keep them in line?"

"They are not very hospitable, and often attacked any human that even thought of coming into the forest." Ahtohalla said with a sigh as she recalled all the headaches the Spirits had given her.

"So, you were given ice magic to overpower them, and that is how the Northuldra came to live here!" Anna said in excitement.

"Well…" Ahtohalla looked at her sheepishly.

"Well, what?" Anna asked, not sure if she wanted to know the answer.

"I was, kind of, sort of, just as bad as the other Spirits." Ahtohalla confessed. "I didn't care about people, and I was not interested in taking care of the other Spirits."

Anna stared at her in shock. Finally, she managed to get some words out.

"What happened?" If Ahtohalla was as cruel as she claimed to have been, then why was the forest praised to be such a peaceful place.

"I was cursed." Ahtohalla somberly said.

"What." Anna was surprised and she found herself reaching forward to comfort the Spirit.

"My home, it was cursed to hold all the memories of the world. And those memories would flow into me. It was cast by Hel and Freya for my disobedience. And from that day, I could see all of the cruel things that this world had done. Funny, we always try out best, but our past is always filled with more evil then good."

"That is cruel!" Anna shouted suddenly. "I mean, I agree that you should be nicer, but that kind of curse is going too far!"

"I was thankful to them for cursing me." Ahtohalla said and Anna looked at her in surprise. "I could finally see why they were angry. Hel, and Freya. They were both still trying to get over what had happened. They were still blaming each other. The forest was only them trying to one up each other in a petty squabble." Ahtohalla smiled. "If you want to know more, you can ask Ahtohallan."

Anna nodded. She decided to change the subject.

"My sister Elsa wants to meet you. She has never met someone with powers like herself." Anna said. She was afraid that Elsa would finally decide to leave Arendelle and learn from Ahtohalla, but if that is what her sister wanted, then she would be happy for her.

"Then I suggest she goes on a trip to the west. There are many magical creatures and people with powers in that direction." Ahtohalla said as she pointed in a random direction.

Anna looked at her in confusion and worry. "You won't meet with her?" She asked and then she realized that she did not know where she was as she looked around. "Where are we?"

"We are in your mind." Ahtohalla said simply. "I just wanted to say a few things to you before I disappeared."

Anna looked at Ahtohalla in shock and then sorrow.

"You are really gone aren't you." Anna said quietly. Ahtohalla nodded.

"I died on that day. This is only a spell I cast, a magic memory so that I can talk with you." Ahtohalla explained. "I wanted to clear things up if I could."

"Are you not going to come back? Elsa said that Yelena told her that you could reincarnate. You gave Elsa your powers, why did you not just be reborn?" Anna asked.

"I was reborn."

"You have?"

Ahtohalla nodded. "I was blessed with two gifts. The magic of ice, to overpower the other Spirits. And something that both goddesses gave to me after I had showed them my kindness despite having been cursed. They gave me a heart. It is my soul and whole being."

"You gave Elsa your powers over ice." Anna said out loud as she pieced things together. "Who did you give your heart?"

Ahtohalla smiled as she raised her finger and tapped it onto Anna's chest.

"Me?!" Anna asked in astonishment.

"Mhmm!" Ahtohalla nodded happily.

"But I am nothing special! I am just plain and clumsy!"

"You are more than you think." Ahtohalla said. "You possess the greatest magic. A love that can bring everyone together."

"But I am just me." Anna said softly.

"And that is all you need to be." Ahtohalla said. She then became serious and a look of sorrow came over her. "Will you watch over the Spirits?"

"Of course, I will!" Anna quickly said. "But I don't know if I will be as good as you."

"You won't be as good. You are already better." Ahtohalla looked sad. "The Spirits, they are like children, they don't know better. When I died, they acted out in different ways. Bruni, Gale, and Jord all lashed out. They attacked everything and anyone and Nokk secluded himself. I always stopped them from doing anything wrong, but they never learned. I should have relied on them more. Allowed them to grow."

"They are good." Anna told her and she meant it. Bruni had done his best to keep her warm, Gale was playful but was gentle. And Nokk had helped Elsa and her when they were trapped on Ahtohallan.

"Thank you." Ahtohalla told her.

Anna smiled reassuringly at her. "It is just like what Bulda told me. People make bad choices if their mad or scared or stressed, but throw a little love their way, and you will bring out their best."

"Words to always remember." Ahtohalla said.

Above them water crashed down and Nokk trotted over to them. Ahtohalla raised her hand and petted his forehead.

"Hello old friend. Is it time already?" Ahtohalla asked him.

"Wait, does that mean you are going?" Anna asked her in a panic. "I still have so many questions! What if I mess up? What if the Northuldra and Arendelle have another conflict?"

"Then I trust you and your sister to do your jobs and bring everyone together." Ahtohalla said. "Elsa has the power to protect. And you have the compassion to understand." Ahtohalla lifted Anna's chin up when she said that. She then reached into Anna's satchel and brought out the pendent of the symbol of the Spirits. She touched it and it lit up as a stream of the northern lights flowed from it. She threw it over Anna, and it became a cape with the symbol as the clasp. Ahtohalla then led Anna over to Nokk and helped her up. "You and Elsa have already done so much. So have more faith in yourselves."

"I will tell Elsa that." Anna said as she smiled gratefully.

Ahtohalla nodded and then turned her attention to Nokk. "Watch over her now, she doesn't have any magic to protect herself with and you can't leave it all up to her sister." Ahtohalla hugged the water Spirits head. "You and the other Spirits have to be more mature now."

Nokk neighed, signaling that he understood.

"Goodbye Ahtohalla!" Anna called out. Anna had just realized that Ahtohalla was truly leaving this world forever.

"How can this be goodbye when I am already living a new life through you?" Ahtohalla giggled. "But just promise me you won't search up my old memories. Live your own life. And be the best you."

"I will, goodbye." Anna said as she waved. The flowers were disappearing, and she could see water.

"Goodbye!" Ahtohalla called out as she gave a big wave. The waters then crashed down over them and Ahtohalla was gone.

The people of Arendelle all held their breaths as they searched for their princess. Anna had just gone underwater, but they were already planning on trying to dive in after her.

A figure wearing a cloak that resembled the northern lights rose from the waters on a horse made of water.

She pulled her cape down and Anna looked up at her people and smiled.

Everyone cheered. Their princess was safe.

Grand Pabbie looked at her in shock and then a soft smile came over him as he relaxed.

"Goodbye my old friend. Be happy in this life." Grand Pabbie whispered as Anna rode the Nokk away.

Author's Notes:

Anna is Ahtohalla's reincarnation! Who saw that coming? I am betting a lot of you did because I have made it quite clear on how I hate the idea that Elsa is the fifth spirit and that it better suited Anna.

This story originally started with me trying to make the fifth spirit more evenly split between Anna and Elsa. They are both supposed to be it in the movie, but it is really one sided towards Elsa.

The original idea was that Anna convinced Elsa to take her over the dark sea. They managed to cross it by completely avoiding the water. I had it like they knew if they fell in it was game over. Elsa did fall in, but Anna managed to distract the Nokk long enough for Elsa to overpower it. Then when they get to Ahtohallan Anna lets Elsa go ahead because she realizes that this is something important to Elsa. Elsa sings Show Yourself, but when she gets to the part where she steps on the crystal on the ground it does not light up. Elsa then realizes that she needs Anna their and together they awaken Ahtohallan. Because Anna was there, she also stops Elsa from diving to deep and they saved the forest.

I know that this chapter makes Anna seem more important, but I really tried to evenly balance it.

Elsa is the power and protection. And Anna is the love and compassion. Both of them were needed to tame the Spirits. And both also needed to be in Ahtohallan. Elsa woke it up, and Anna learned the truth.
