Elsa walked out of the forest with all of the Northuldra and Arendelle soldiers. The were all basking in the light that some of them had never even seen.
Elsa felt fearful. She had gone on this quest to find where she truly belonged. She had left Arendelle fully believing that she would not return. But after what happened on Ahtohallan, she now knew that it was not that she did not belong in Arendelle, the people of Arendelle had excepted her long ago. It was the fact she, herself, would not let her be excepted.
Now with that knowledge, Elsa felt at peace with herself, more than she had ever felt in her entire life. She knew where she belonged and what her purpose was. She was the first-born daughter of king Agnarr and queen Iduna. She was Elsa, queen of Arendelle.
No, what she was worried about now was the safety of her sister and her people. Did Anna make it in time? Was everyone okay? Did Anna get hurt?
"She will be fine." Kristoff said as he walked up to her. "She is a lot tougher than we give her credit for."
"I say we were right to be hard on her." Elsa mumbled, but then she softened and turned to Kristoff. "We should have believed in her more."
"Yeah." He nodded.
"I promise that I won't run off on my own anymore and that I will trust her more." Elsa swore.
"Good, I will too. When I get the chance." Kristoff said sadly.
Elsa was about to ask him what he meant when she heard something.
"Ah-ah-ah-ah."
"Shh, I hear the voice." Elsa said.
"Ah-ah-ah-ahh, ah-ah."
"I hear it to." Kristoff said and Elsa turned to him in shock. She then looked around and saw that others had also heard it.
"Ah-ah-ah-ah."
"Ahtohalla is back!" A young Northuldra yelled as he stared out at sea.
Gale flew past her and even showed her the symbol of the Spirits before whisking away to the beach.
Elsa dashed to the beach. She jumped down some rocks and when she looked up, she saw a figure wearing a cape that looked like the northern lights, riding Nokk.
"Ah-ah-ah-ahh, ah-ah."
Nokk reached the shore, and the figure jumped down. Nokk disappeared and the figure lowered her hood.
"Anna?" Elsa said in shock. "Is that really you?"
"Elsa!" Anna yelled as she ran towards her sister. Elsa chocked back a sob as she dashed forward as well. The two sisters collided and hugged each other as tightly as they could. Elsa drew back and looked at Anna's face. Tears streaming down both their faces.
"It was you! You were the one calling for me!" Elsa exclaimed excitedly as she smiled. Her smile faded when she realized what that meant. "Oh Anna, I am so sorry."
"I am sorry to Elsa." Anna said as she held onto her sister's arms. "We both made mistakes."
"But we promised not to shut each other out." Elsa said sadly. "You were trying to connect with me, just like how I wanted to connect with someone like me. You didn't know where you belonged just like me and I didn't realize it."
"Its okay Elsa." Anna stopped her. "I forgive you. I know you care about me."
Elsa smiled at Anna and they both touched foreheads, savoring this moment.
Kristoff smiled at the sisters as Sven walked up behind him.
"Anna! Elsa! Kristoff! Sven! You will not believe this, but I think I was dead!" Olaf shouted as he walked from the forest.
"Olaf!" All of them cried out as they rushed over to hug him.
"Oh Olaf, you are okay." Elsa said as she snuggled close to him.
"Well, define, okay? I do still feel a little stiff." Olaf said but he still sounded chipper.
"Really?" Anna asked worried.
"My powers are still coming back to me, that is probably it." Elsa said. "I am sorry Olaf, you stopped moving because I dived too deep."
"Well, promise me you won't do something like that again for at least week, and I will forgive you." Olaf told her.
"I promise, and I intend to keep that promise for longer than a week." Elsa said whole heartedly.
"Then I forgive you!" Olaf said as he threw his arms around her.
The group all hugged once more. Yelena walked up to them and stood to the side as she let them have this moment.
"Yelena!" Olaf shouted and ran up to hug her as well.
"Hello Olaf." Yelena said with a kind smile. She then turned to Anna and Elsa. She walked up to Anna and bowed her head. "I am sorry that I didn't recognize you Ahtohalla."
"Oh!" Anna said in surprise. "I don't think she, I mean I, thought you would recognize her, I mean me."
"I didn't recognize you because I was only thinking about her magic. I forgot what she was really like." Yelena said somberly. "It was my own fault and for that I am sorry how I acted and how I have treated you." Yelena looked between Anna and Elsa. "The both of you."
"We understand Yelena, and we hold no resentment to you or the Northuldra." Elsa said, placing a hand on Anna's shoulder. Anna nodded in agreement.
"Both of you are welcome here in the Enchanted Forest. If you decide to stay." Yelena told them with a relieved and happy smile.
Elsa looked at Anna and then back to Yelena. "I made a promise to always protect Arendelle, I have not been holding up that promise very well. I finally know why I was born, but I promise to visit, I want to learn more about the Spirits and about my mother's people."
"I understand, and I am happy for you." Yelena told her gently.
"I will be staying." Kristoff said.
All eyes turned to him in surprise.
"If you will allow me." Kristoff asked Yelena.
"Of course!" Yelena quickly said and Kristoff smiled, he then turned to Anna, who did not look surprised by his decision.
"I love you." Kristoff told her.
"I know." Anna said.
"Palace life is just not for me."
"I know." Anna said it almost sadly.
"I want to reconnect with the family I never knew, just how you and Elsa are reconnecting. I can also help the Northuldra adjust from being trapped in the forest for so long. I promise I will visit." Kristoff explained desperately. He didn't want to go. He wanted to keep his relationship with Anna, but he was leaving. She was a princess and Arendelle was her home.
Anna walked up to him and gave him a kiss on his lips.
"Don't worry, I am going to follow you soon." Anna told him happily.
"What?" Kristoff asked.
Anna looked sadly to Elsa. "I want to go back and help rebuild Arendelle. But Ahtohalla has entrusted the Spirits to me. I have to take care of them." Anna told her, and Elsa could only smile as a tear went down her cheek. "It won't be right away, maybe in two years. I will be twenty-one then and might feel more confident on standing on my own two legs. I also don't want to just abandon Arendelle, I want to find something I can do for it even if I am no longer there."
Elsa could only hug her sister.
"Once we are settled, the Northuldra will come and help Arendelle rebuild." Yelena told them. "It will help everyone to move forward and to make stronger relations with each other."
"Thank you." Anna said gratefully.
The next day, the soldiers of Arendelle packed up what little they had.
"I am so glad to finally be free of this place." Mattias said, and then turned to Yelena. "No offence."
"None taken, I myself have gotten a little sick of looking at nothing but trees every day, you best keep your promise to show me the sites of Arendelle."
"Well, as soon as it is rebuilt I will."
The two of them laughed.
"We got everything?" Anna asked.
"Yes, your majesty, that is all." A soldier said as they walked past her carrying a bag.
The wind suddenly picked up and twirled around Anna and then Elsa.
"What is it Gale?" Olaf asked.
Anna looked up in worry and then exclaimed in surprise as something jumped up at her. She cupped her hands and it landed in them.
"Bruni? What is going on?" Anna asked the little lizard as he snuggled into her hands.
Elsa looked at her sister in confusion and then she felt something nudge her from behind. She turned around and Nokk looked down at her before giving her another nudge.
"I think he wants you to freeze him so he can walk on land." Anna said as she walked up to Elsa.
"You think they want to come with us?" Elsa asked but she knew the answer.
"Anna lifted up Bruni and stared down at him. "Well, do you?" Anna asked.
Bruni nodded enthusiastically while Nokk neighed happily.
Jord kneeled down and Anna and Elsa walked over to him and placed their hands on his forehead.
"Watch over the forest while we are gone." Anna instructed him and he smiled happily.
Elsa turned to Nokk and placed her hand on his forehead. Her magic flowed out and he became frozen. Nokk then began happily trotting around her. Then he kneeled down, and Anna and Elsa got on him.
"Safe travels." Kristoff said as he walked up to them, followed by the Northuldra.
"Thank you." Anna said and then she and Elsa waved to the Northuldra people.
"Keep safe, we will see you soon!"
"We will!"
The Arendelle soldiers had finished grabbing all their stuff and started to walk out of the forest. They were all happily waving goodbye and making promises to visit.
Anna and Elsa waived one last time as Nokk carried them away.
Author's Notes:
And that is it!
Thank you all for reading this!
A huge thank you to Desteny star and White Hunter! Thank you both so much for commenting on every chapter right as soon as they were posted!
A very special thank you to Desteny Star! This story would not have been written if it was not for you.
And thank you to everyone else that has followed this story! You are all amazing!
This is the official ending. This is the ending that I would have left the movie on, but I still have one or two chapters that I want to do. The first is a complete telling of Ahtohalla's backstory. The second is maybe a deeper talk between Anna and Elsa and then making plans for the future, maybe, this chapter might not get written.
There were three dropped story ideas that I thought you might find interesting.
1: Elsa's character ark starting after Kristoff asked for permission to marry Anna. She realized that everyone's life was moving on and she was terrified to try doing the same. She went back to blaming her powers and thinking no one would love her. This was dropped after I changed the time to only one year after Frozen, so Anna and Kristoff were not thinking of marriage.
2: An original character that appears at the beginning and end of the story. He approaches Elsa who is looking at a painting and tries to strike up a conversation, but Elsa immediately runs away. After the adventure and Anna encouraging Elsa to get to know others more, Elsa runs into him again, looking at the same picture. Elsa plucks up the courage and talks with him. They discover that they have the same taste in art. This was dropped simply because I forgot it and I did not know where I should put it in the story.
3: Anna saying Kristoff would make a good king. When Anna suggests that Elsa stay in the forest and she takes over Arendelle, Elsa says that she is worried that Anna would not be able to marry Kristoff anymore. Anna's response to that is that Arendelle is a trading kingdom and Kristoff is an expert trader. She points out other qualities that Kristoff can bring and that if they agreed to marry, he would not be a burden. This was dropped because Anna had learned he wanted to leave Arendelle.
And that is all!
