Inverted Sky: KH 358/2 Days

Chapter 2: The World That Never Was part II

Xion's Log, Day 7

I am utterly at a loss.

I've spent the past few days being trained in things that I somehow already knew how to do. And while I've been eager to keep learning magic, it seems that I'm supposed to be waiting for the 'right time' to further my abilities. During all this however, I've taken to not talking much, if at all. I could tell Vexen was still really upset about my comments before, so I decided to stay silent. While it's led for Vexen to start thinking that I'm no longer being as responsive, it seems to be the better alternative.

Though, right now, I'm supposed to be meeting the other members of the Organization. Whilst I've seen many of them from a distance, when they came to 'check on my progress', I'm actually going to be introduced to them today for the first time. It's actually quite nerve-wreaking. But there has been an odd feeling I've been having for a while. A deep sense of misplacement. Like, this is not where I'm supposed to be. I can't even explain why I feel it, but it's continued to swell, even as I slowly walked into the large hall.

Thirteen thrones of varying heights positioned in a circle around the room's center, each holding a member of the Organization. All of whom gazed down toward the girl with their various expressions. Most seemed neutral, while others were dismissive. Yet there was one whom appeared inquisitive. A young boy, around the same age as how Xion herself appeared. He had golden-blond hair that was quite spiky, and honestly, looked pretty cool in her opinion. Though, it was his blue eyes that truly caught Xion's gaze. His eyes, they were the same as hers, or at least how they used to be. The girl's right eye having remained gold after the odd incident, so she shared this blue color with only her left eye.

During this long stare however, the one simply known as 'the Superior' began to speak from his throne, which towered over the rest. "Good tidings, friends." the grey-haired man started with a brief glance around to everyone in the hall.

"Today is a momentous occasion." the man continued as he then gestured down to Xion with a hand while saying his next words.

"I am pleased to announce that a new comrade has been chosen to wear the coat. Number XIV, Xion." upon these words, the girl tilted her head up to look at the many stares directed toward her once more.

But once again, she found herself lingering on the boy. It feeling like they were connected somehow, even if she didn't understand how or why. In the midst of her thoughts though, the blond seemed to catch her gaze again. This actually making a faint smile unconsciously curl her lips, like she was reuniting with an old friend she didn't realize was lost. 'Roxas.' she thought to herself, even though his name had never been spoken to her aloud before.

Xion's Log, Day 10

I've got my own room now, so no more sleeping in that laboratory anymore. Which is really nice, as that chair was starting to hurt my back.

I also had my first mission yesterday. It was pretty easy to be honest. Heartless can be tough and durable, but they're not very smart.

I even got the chance to meet the other members of the Organization outside of the meeting hall. Though, they all appear to be rather off-put by me. I've kept my hood up, like Vexen suggested, yet it seems they are still wary of having me around. I guess whomever they used to make me, must not be a great person. Or at least...that's what I've come to tell myself.

"Now then, lets begin." Vexen declared firmly, narrowing his eyes on the girl as he held his shield out in front of him.

With only a nod, Xion immediately rushed forward and began attacking the man. Her only using a small portion of strength, since she knew Vexen wasn't very physically strong. Yet while her strikes were light, she made sure the precision of each attack more than made up for it. This being Xion's main training, or at least, the one she was allowed to continue developing. She was still unable to grow her magic and other abilities, openly anyway, so Xion decided to increase her ability with the blade. For the time being.

The girl herself wasn't a huge fan of this sort of training though, as unlike everything else she had done so far, it was the one thing that didn't seem to come naturally. 'Whoever this 'Sora' is...she probably doesn't have much skill with a sword.' she mused to herself while continuing her assault.

All the while, she was being watched very carefully by a few other members of the Organization. Each one almost appearing to be memorizing her movements, something that Xion had taken notice of from the beginning. Which made the girl immediately realize her position as a simple 'lab rat'. She was there to be studied and used, that much was clear. Despite all the claims of her being a 'great help' to the Organization, Xion knew she was on borrowed time.

'Well...there's no point in worrying about it. I just have to go with the flow for now and hope I can come up with something along the way.' Xion thought inwardly, almost seeming to let her body attack on its own.

'I do wonder though...do I have vacation days?' she finished with a faint smile tugging at her lips.

Xion's Log, Day 11

Turns out, no...I don't get vacation days.

Guess I should have seen that coming, but it's still a little annoying. I'm thinking of running off to another world after my mission today. I wonder if the Superior would be upset? Probably.

Well, maybe I'll wait a bit longer before going off to do my own thing.

I am a bit worried though, it seems there is a bit event coming up after the Superior discovered a place he's apparently been looking for.

"Castle Oblivion?" Xion uttered out curiously as Vexen nodded slowly.

"Indeed, I will be heading there in a few days. So you'll be going on missions with the other members." the man stated without even looking to the girl, him sounding almost as though he was glad to be rid of her.

Vexen himself was currently in the process of packing some of his lab's equipment into a briefcase. Him apparently being tasked with 'gaining control' over the castle. Which Xion could only assume involved rigging whatever powers this place might have, into something the man himself would control. But with a simple nod of her head, the girl responded to his words with a 'Yes', before leaving the laboratory. Even as Vexen yelled out for her to come help him, she just carried on down the hall.

'I've barely even interacted with the other members, so I doubt they'll be happy to team up with me. I guess the best I can hope for is that they'll simply ignore me during the missions.' Xion mused while continuing to walk, the platinum-blond-haired man seeming to have given up on calling her back.

Upon arriving in the main gathering hall, Xion saw most of the other Organization members sitting or standing in the area. This room being used more as a lounge than anything else, as it was the only designated place where everyone could just rest, outside of their rooms of course. The moment she arrived however, any conversations seemed to immediately stop. While some of them avoided looking at Xion, others gave her distant stares. Even with the little experience in interacting with these people, the girl could tell they saw her as an outsider. Which likely made it so that they didn't know how they should speak, or interact with her.

Unbeknownst to her however, the true reason was the fact that Sora was viewed as the Organization's enemy. Therefore, it was strange to most of them that their newest member was basically created using that very person's essence. But amongst everyone, there was still one person whom didn't give Xion such a cold stare. That being Roxas. Said boy always seemed ready to approach, but could never manage to do so. And even this time would be no different, as Marluxia suddenly walked up to Xion with a slow nod. "It seems the Superior has placed you in my care for today, try not to disappoint me." he claimed firmly, to which Xion blinked a few times from behind her hood before nodding slowly in return.

Marluxia, he's a detached individual who seemed uninterested in anything that wasn't something he was doing. Not the best partner out of everyone in the Organization, but probably one of the most reliable to complete a mission. While Xion wasn't excited about working with the man, she knew it would be the best chance she would get to learn from him. Marluxia was one of the most powerful members, that was a simple fact well known amongst the others. And it was something the girl wanted to exploit.

'If they've all watched me grow, then the least I should do is to see the heights I'll be aiming for.' were her main thoughts as she and the pink-haired man disappeared in a corridor of darkness.

Though, she still made sure to give Roxas one last quick glance before leaving, knowing that one day, they would get the chance to talk. 'One day soon...I hope.'

Xion's Log, Day 14

Man, I really should have fought more for having vacation days.

The past few missions have been exhausting. Not physically of course, but mentally...I think I've been scarred for life.

First I had to deal with Marluxia treating me like a nuisance.

Then Larxene just started calling me an 'idiot' who couldn't do anything...nonstop.

I even had to listen to all of Demyx's complaints about not wanting to fight. I would have rather just listen to him play his music. He's surprisingly talented, or at least I think he is. I don't really have anyone else to compare him to.

Thankfully, despite all of that, I managed to learn a lot from them. Not that they willingly taught me or anything. But just by watching them, I did manage to pick up on quite a few things. Particularly about their fighting techniques. Which I will say, they are definitely talented.

Today however, I'm genuinely excited. While my partner still isn't Roxas yet, I get the next best choice, as I've been really eager to learn more about magic.

"Are you ready to leave yet?" Zexion questioned with an arched brow.

Xion simply offered a slow nod in response, still believing it best not to say anything. Which, even now, seemed to be for the best. It appeared to help the other members no longer shy away from talking in her presence. While she wasn't overly interested in talking to most of them, Xion was able to listen in on a great many conversations. So many of which revolved around their missions, or simply complaints about said missions.

But a few times, the girl overheard mentions of Roxas. Said boy always seeming just out of reach of Xion, as he was quickly paired up with Axel. Whom took the boy under his wing, teaching and helping him during all of his missions. And once again, Roxas was in the meeting room as Xion entered. He was standing next to Axel again, making it all the harder for either of them to approach the other. While she felt a little disheartened that they had yet to talk to one another, one of the conversations she overheard was in fact about how Roxas mentioned wanting to talk to her.

'Hurrah for staying quiet~!' Xion mused to herself while hiding a small smile, to which she gave another quick glance to Roxas before following Zexion through a corridor of darkness.

She wasn't too disappointed in going on this mission though, as teaming up with the steel-blue-haired man was something she has been looking forward to. While most of the Organization members specialized in one form of power, Zexion was a jack-of-all-trades when it came to magic. He wasn't extremely powerful in any one type, but his versatility made him a dangerous threat to anyone. And that's what Xion truly wanted to see, the sheer number of spells the man could use. Her interest in magic having been a huge driving point since the moment Vexen taught her how to cast Blizzard.

'I better pay close attention if I want to learn everything he'll use on this mission.' Xion thought, narrowing both eyes from under her hood.

Despite being unable to see the girl's gaze, Zexion could practically feel it upon him. Making the young man somewhat concerned about the teen's intentions for this mission. Yet he pushed these thoughts from his mind as the first group of Heartless appeared. Zexion simply shaking his head, choosing the believe he was over thinking things.

Xion's Log, Day 15

Magic is really amazing. Its uses are nearly endless.

But more than that, there are so many various applications and means of turning a normally mundane or weak spell, into something far more powerful.

Although, I've also realized that exact train of thought can be applied to more than just magic. The idea of altering things in such a precise way, that they create something on their own, is such an interesting concept to me. I guess I can say this experience has really opened my eyes and my mind.

Which makes the fact that I won't be teaming up with Zexion again for a while, all the more disappointing. He and most of the others went off to Castle Oblivion today. So I'll be joining Xigbar for the next few days. It seems the others have other unique missions that I won't be able to help with.

Looks like, despite all my progress, I'm still not very strong by comparison to the rest of them. I'll have to try harder from here on out.

"Finally arrived, huh?" Xigbar questioned while crossing his arms and raising a brow, Xion just not entering the lounge area.

The girl simply offered a slow nod in response, this apparently becoming her 'signature', at least according to the others. 'Boo for staying quiet~!' she called out in her mind while hiding a frown.

'Though, I guess it was inevitable that I'd basically be known for the only response I seem to give.' the girl continued with a silent breath of exasperation.

But before following the man through the corridor of darkness he made, Xion noticed that Roxas wasn't in the hall today. 'I wonder if he's feeling alright.' she thought worriedly before stepping through the dark portal.

And there you have it, I decided to go with a 'diary' format for this rewrite. And don't worry, I will be including Roxas' POV this time around. I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter and will let me know what you thought. Until next time.
