Inverted Sky: KH 358/2 Days
Chapter 4: The World That Never Was part IV
Xion's Log, Day 20
I finally got to talk to Roxas. Not only that, but I've even gotten to go on a bunch of missions with him over the past few days. Joining Xigbar on his missions was fine and all, but it got a bit boring after figuring out how he used his teleportation abilities. Plus...he, above everyone else, seems to act the most distant from me.
So being able to spend more time with Roxas has been a lot of fun, and a great change of pace. And to top it all off, we get ice cream after every mission. It's hard to not enjoy that. And while I thought the name, 'Sea-Salt' would mean it wouldn't taste very good, I was pleasantly surprised.
Today though, I have Axel as my partner. It seems he's briefly returning from Castle Oblivion to complete a few important missions under the Superior's orders. I get the feeling this mission has something to do with me, but I'm not entirely sure what it could be.
"Well well...together at last." were Axel's words upon walking up to the girl, whom had returned to having her hood up.
"I heard from Roxas on my way here, that you've decided to actually speak now." he continued with a small grin on his features.
"Quite impressive...especially after I called you 'not very responsive' to everyone before I left." he stated in a chuckle, to which he gave a sheepish smile.
"Sorry about that." Axel added, bowing his head in an apologetic manner.
Xion looked to him silently for a moment before shaking her head slowly; "It's alright." she responded quietly, still not entirely feeling comfortable with talking in front of anyone who wasn't Roxas.
After her words, the red-haired man just seemed to stare at her for a few long seconds. His expression looking as though he was reminded of something, or someone. But he quickly snapped out of this, while taking on a smile once more. "Huh...you really are..." he stared in a whisper, yet never finished.
"Well then, shall we get this mission underway?" Axel asked as a corridor of darkness appeared to their side.
Offering another nod in response, Xion slowly walked through the portal with the man. Though, Axel himself stayed a few steps behind the teen as his eyes slowly narrowed on her. "Talk about deja-vu." he muttered silently to himself.
The raven-haired girl briefly turned back to look at him, yet shifted her gaze directly ahead once more when they found themselves on a beach. Seagulls squawked loudly from overhead, while the sound of the waves crashing against the shore created a sense of peace in the surrounding area. However, Xion found herself just blinking many times to this scene, which she somehow knew all too well...even though it was the first time she had ever seen it. "Talk about deja-vu." she echoed silently, making Axel glance to her with a raised brow.
Xion's Log, Day 21
Oddly enough, it took a long time to actually learn anything from Axel. He's a really nice and cool guy, and my mission with him was a lot of fun to be honest. He even invited me to have ice cream, just like Roxas did.
After I removed my hood however, he seemed to get really distracted whenever he stared at me for more than a few seconds...even when we were fighting Heartless. It was like he couldn't believe what he was seeing, as though he had seen a ghost. Or at least that's what I assumed, since I'm definitely not strong enough for him to view me as a threat.
Though, a 'ghost' doesn't even make much sense. I mean everyone in the Organization are Nobodies, an empty husk left over when the hearts is taken away. So it's- wait a second...that description sounds like it should be about the 'Heartless'. But then, Heartless are hearts who lost their bodies to the darkness...which sounds like the description for the 'Nobodies'. So...shouldn't their names be reversed?
"Hey! You awake in there?" Demyx called out while knocking on the door to Xion's room.
Blinking many times, the girl pulled away from her thoughts and moved toward the door. Upon opening it, she gaze up at the man in silence. Whom looked like he himself was only half awake, making Xion inwardly question what he was doing before now. Yet he just made a lazy gesture for the teen to follow him as he started moving to the lounge hall. As she walked after the man, Xion tilted her head curiously and narrowed both eyes.
'Odd...he's normally the one who hates going on missions the most, so what could he have been doing to make him so tired?' she thought to herself while walking.
As she entered the large room, the girl noticed Roxas for a brief moment as he was about to step through a corridor of darkness on his own. The two sharing a quick wave before the boy left for his mission, to which Xion and Demyx did the same. But while their own mission to Traverse Town was a typical one, the 'after show' was anything but typical.
Apparently, this place has a yearly celebration of the town's founding. There were fireworks, a great feast, and a lot of music being played. Watching and listening to all this, Xion couldn't help but smile. The jovial atmosphere was almost intoxicating, as she and Demyx gazed on from afar. Although, possibly due to the echoing of all these sounds mixing together, it actually started to make the girl a little curious.
Recalling the many times of when she listened to Demyx play, there was an odd flow that his music seemed to follow. This being something that she didn't hear from the instruments currently playing in the distance. 'I'm not hearing much discord in the songs they're playing.' she thought to herself before slowly turning toward the man beside her, whom had once said that such things were typical in music.
Suddenly realizing the teen's eventual conclusion, Demyx cleared his throat quickly. "W-Well...we should probably head back. I have a lot to report to the Superior after all." he claimed nervously, all while opening a dark portal directly ahead.
Xion raised a brow from under her hood, yet gave a slow nod in response as she stepped through. 'I get the distinct impression that his music isn't really as good as he tries to pretend it to be.' she mused to herself thoughtfully and suspiciously.
Xion's Log, Day 35
Huh, I had no idea that Luxord was a surprisingly good teacher. When he noticed I was having some trouble with certain few spells, he actually helped me to cast them properly. I almost asked if he wanted to join me for ice cream, but since it was the first time he's spoken to me...I figured it best not to push my luck.
On another note, word just returned from Castle Oblivion. Marluxia is gone, and the plans for the castle have been abandoned.
Though, since I was never clued in about what was happening in that castle, the sudden news didn't really feel that important to me. But judging by the many deflated attitudes of everyone else, it seems that whatever they aimed to do...was a much bigger deal than I thought.
I'm curious if Roxas knows anything, as he's been a bit out of it for the past few days. Then again, he's probably just been really worried about Axel, as he was right in the middle of it all.
As Xion stepped out of her room, she looked to the side and saw Roxas and Axel slowly approaching. The former being nudged by the latter's elbow as the red-haired man seemed to be teasing the teen. This bringing a small smile to the girl's face as she simply waited for the pair to reach her. "You ready for the mission today?" Roxas asked, a bit of excitement in his tone.
"Yes." she responded with a nod, her smile widening ever so slightly.
"Well, today is a mission for all three of us...so it should be a pretty big one." Axel claimed while glancing between the two.
"We're ready for it, no problem." Roxas stated confidently as he looked up to his taller friend.
Xion simply gave a nod of her head in agreement to this as she also tilted her head up to gaze at Axel. Whom let out a sigh before offering a returning nod; "In that case...lets get started." he said while leading the teens forward.
Both of whom briefly looking to each other, yet immediately followed the man as they reached the gathering hall. Where of which, most of the other members of the Organization were currently lounging about. Though, there was a strange tenseness in the air between the members who went to Castle Oblivion, and those who did not. This strain not being effected in the slightest by the trios arrival, to which Axel took this moment to open a corridor of darkness.
"Best let them stew for a bit." he commented silently before immediately stepping through.
Swiftly following after, Xion and Roxas emerged with Axel on the other side. At which point, they all let out out a silent breath they didn't realize they were holding in. "That was...intense." the blond boy muttered silently, his gaze turning toward the red-haired man at his side.
"Is everyone really 'that' perturbed about Marluxia?" he continued curiously, raising a brow in the process.
While Axel didn't say anything at first, he looked down briefly in thought. This single action showing both teens that there was likely something more going on, but he was attempting to think of a way to tell them...without telling them. Though, the fact that Roxas was the one asking, instantly answered Xion's question of just how much he knew.
"You could say...it's the failure of the mission, that has everyone perturbed." Axel answered finally, offering a strangely sheepish smile.
Despite wanting a more definitive and clear answer, both teens nodded their head in understanding. 'Whatever this mission was...the rest of the Organization doesn't want either of us to know about it.' they thought in near unison while glancing to one another.
The pair having a silent agreement with one another that they would find out what it is they're being kept away from. Something that Axel himself was quick to pick up on, to which he just let out a breath and led them on to begin their mission.
Xion's Log, Day 52
Things almost seem to be better than ever...weirdly. The Castle Oblivion incident doesn't seem to be in anyone's minds anymore, or at least no one appears to be talking about it. Which is probably deliberate, since my and Roxas' curiosity about it seems to have gotten out. Likely after our questioning of the events to the others. Which, in itself, didn't get us far as everyone seems pretty tight lipped.
Though, the biggest change over the past two weeks, is the fact that I've been getting a lot attention from the Castle Oblivion team. I'm not even sure why. But, Larxene is almost being nice to me...Vexen doesn't seem to mind it when I talk more consistently...Zexion has actually offered to teach me some spells...and even Lexaeus, whom I never really talked to before, is looking at me with a lot more respect.
I have no idea what's gotten into them, but I've actually begun leaving my hood down lately...and even talking to them. Although, I can't quite shake this feeling that when they're looking and talking to me, they're actually addressing someone else.
The question of who I was created from is starting to come up more and more often within my mind. So I think if I can't find out anything about Castle Oblivion, maybe it's time for me to find some answers about my origins.
'Today's mission is with Xaldin. He usually likes to finish his work very quickly, as he typically has other orders given to him by the Superior. I have no idea what these orders might be, but I plan to use this time to do some digging around and see what I can find out.' Xion mused to herself while tying up her boots.
'I just need to be careful and make it seem like I was simply taking my break after the mission was over. Most of us do that anyway, so there shouldn't be anything suspicions about it.' she continued before standing up, curling some of her black hair behind her ear and heading out of the room.
'Maybe I can use this opportunity to try out my new method of avoiding trouble.' the girl thought while walking toward the lounge area.
Her actually arriving earlier that Xaldin himself, which seemed to surprise the man, since he was almost always the first to walk in. He just gave the girl a slow nod of his head in acceptance however, before they both left for their mission. 'Lets just hope I don't mess this up.' Xion added to herself with a sheepish smile that was thankfully hidden from the large man, as she was a few steps behind him.
As I'm sure you can already tell, I'm gonna be taking my time with this part of the story. I rushed through it the first time, because I didn't think anyone was interested, as the number of readers and reviews dropped to almost nothing. So this time, I'm just gonna tell the story I initially wanted to tell. Anyway, I hope all of you enjoyed this chapter and will let me know what you thought. Until next time.
