Time by Lynnie

The older man stood back and watched as the weary day's events unfolded. He was told to be there and to wait…

The well worn hat blew in the wind as old eyes cried. He wasn't told why he was sent there. Just to be there and to help when the time came. He was told he would recognize his cue.

When the scene began to play out, the strength that was once there was forgotten and replaced with the uncertainty of a child. He wasn't sure how to handle the situation he was put in.

As a slight commotion took over the well dressed group, the gentleman's head bowed and slowly started his journey. His cue had been shown as promised and now it was time to…he wasn't sure what. He went and stood silently for a moment next to a younger blonde woman with matching pained eyes. "It's time to go, dear."

"Are you sure? Can't I stay for just a little longer. I need t…"

"I'm sorry. Honey, ya know we can't. It'll be okay. I know it doesn't seem like it, but it will be."

The two stood next to each other and watched as solemn man with his curly haired little girl walk by them with a silent partner. After the three passed the blonde reached out to touch each face, but stopped and dropped her head. "You said 'it' will be okay. What about them though? I need to…"

"Darlin', he'll be here to hold ya soon enough. Cordell's strong and so is that little doll he has. She's going to keep him going. Jimmy is tough and will cope and help with Angela. It's time to go home."

"I was.."

"Darlin…"

The blonde turned quickly at the thick voice, not wanting to believe her ears. "I think I'm ready, CD." Finally, she took one last look at the newmarblenear her feet.
