Chapter 15: Work Song

They had a rather lazy day as Inuyasha tried to recover from his hangover.

His hanyo blood helped him metabolize the lingering alcohol in his system, but he was still rather stagnant throughout the day. Kagome combed his hair and rubbed his ears as he slept off and on, and she found that she didn't mind.

Finally, around dinner time, he felt up to eating a full meal.

"Let's find a tavern," he suggested as he stretched his limbs from his most recent nap. "We'll have a nice dinner before finding an inn. You deserve a proper bed after putting up with me all day."

Kagome laughed and took his hand once they'd gotten up.

"You know, I really didn't mind," she said, tugging his fingers. "Besides, you would have done the same for me if I were the one hungover, right?"

She took in the pensive look on his face as he appeared to think it over.

"Hm, I don't know about all that," he replied. Kagome gaped up at him, nudging his shoulder.

"Hey!" she chided. "The correct answer is, 'Of course, Kagome. I love you, Kagome.'"

Inuyasha chuckled and let go of her hand to wrap his arms around her and pick her up, bringing her face level with his.

He smiled. "Of course, Kagome. I love you, Kagome."

She softened, because how could she not when he looked at her like that?

"I love you, too," she replied as she leaned in to kiss him.

o.O.o.

Once they'd gotten checked in to their room, they curled up in the bed and began to discuss their next move.

"Okay, so," Kagome began, settling into Inuyasha's arms. "We have to track down an oni."

Inuyasha huffed and absentmindedly ran his fingers through her hair.

"Yeah," he grumbled. "I'm worried, though."

Kagome frowned. "I am, too. It's nerve-wracking."

"It's more than just being nerve-wracking," Inuyasha corrected. "What if it doesn't work? Then what?"

Kagome was silent for a moment.

"I don't know," she admitted. "But we'll figure it out. Even if we have to figure it out as we go along, it'll be okay. We'll just call it a surprise."

The hanyo laughed. "It's like you always know what to say." Kagome hummed.

"It's a gift."

o.O.o

The next day, Kagome and Inuyasha checked out of the inn. They went straight to the forest and began hunting an oni.

"I wish I'd thought of this when we were attacked the first time," Kagome commented.

Inuyasha hummed in agreement. "Would've saved some time."

Kagome wrapped her arm around his waist and smiled. "Yeah, but at least your sword finally transformed that day. You're welcome."

Inuyasha chuckled and kissed her forehead. "That feels like forever ago. I can't believe it's only been a few months."

"Yeah," Kagome agreed. "I feel like we've been together forever."

"Me, too," Inuyasha murmured.

As they walked, Kagome's thoughts drifted back to the matter at hand, and she frowned as she realized something.

"Inuyasha," she began, "I purified that oni back then when your sword transformed, remember? But the jewel didn't disappear."

Inuyasha was quiet for a moment.

"You used an arrow, though," he pointed out. "Do miko also purify with their hands?"

Kagome nodded. "Yeah, that's a good point. If I use my actual body and I'm skin-to-skin, maybe that'll make a difference."

Inuyasha took a deep breath. "Now we just have to find an oni, which sucks because they're not exactly common."

"Can we lure one out?" Kagome asked. "I could play the part of a poor, defenseless woman." She set a hand on her forehead, feigning weakness. "Woe is me."

Inuyasha grinned. "Great performance. It might work, though. You were alone the first time it happened last time. You were alone before me, too, though. Were you ever attacked before we met?"

Kagome nodded. "Yeah, two or three times."

"Where? In a forest?"

"Yeah," Kagome replied. Her eyes suddenly widened. "And it's always been right after I purified the jewel."

"Do you want to do that first?" Inuyasha asked. "Sounds like a good idea."

"Is there water nearby?"

Inuyasha took a sniff of the air. "Yeah, pretty close. Let's go."

Kagome followed Inuyasha in the direction of the water, hoping that their hunch would be correct.

She just wanted it to be over.

After she'd purified the jewel, she pushed aside her fatigue and tried to flare its power a bit to lure an oni out.

"Wait, don't do all that," Inuyasha warned. "What if Naraku is somewhere nearby?"

Kagome bit her lip. "Maybe he'd be a better test subject."

Inuyasha growled softly. "Don't be stupid."

"I'm not being stupid," Kagome countered. "I'm desperate. There's a difference."

She looked down at the ground, hating that their peaceful morning was being destroyed by the reminders of what lay ahead of them.

She felt Inuyasha's hands settle on her cheeks before he gently lifted her face up.

Their eyes met, and she saw the sincerity in his golden irises.

"Please," he said, his voice suddenly soft. "I'm desperate, too, but I don't want us to cross the line into stupid. We'll come across an oni eventually, okay? We need that right now, not Naraku."

Kagome sighed and nodded, knowing he was right.

"Fine," she conceded wearily. "Let's keep going."

Inuyasha kissed her quickly before reaching down to take her hand as they continued walking through the forest.

As they made their way, they were rather quiet, the sad reminder that regardless of their happiness with each other, they couldn't afford to lose themselves in it. The small bit of peace they found within each other was so often overshadowed by the looming danger, and that day only served as a reminder.

But Kagome kept her hand in his, rubbing his arm with her free hand every so often, and at least tried to focus on that, on Inuyasha, for now. It felt like that was all she really could do.

After a fruitless day, they had a stroke of luck just as the sky was starting to darken.

An oni approached them after Kagome had attempted just a small flare of the jewel's power.

Inuyasha had been completely against it, but she assured him it was as small as she could possibly make it, so he trusted her judgment.

"Go hide," she whispered. "I'll take care of this." Inuyasha nodded and jumped into a nearby tree, climbing high enough to be invisible but remaining low enough to hear their conversation and witness the scene.

"What do we have here?" the oni asked as he walked toward them. "A human woman. You're quite beautiful. Would you prefer to be my wife or my next meal?"

Kagome huffed. "Why don't you come here first and then I'll decide?"

The oni moved forward, releasing claws that had been hiding in his fingers, and lunged at Kagome.

"You don't sound too eager to choose," he shouted. "So I'll make the decision for you. You're my next meal."

Kagome stayed where she was, only lifting her arms to press them to the oni's chest. Inuyasha watched as her eyes closed and her body began to glow.

After a short moment, the oni hollered in pain and disintegrated in a puff of purification.

When it was gone, Inuyasha heard Kagome gasp.

He jumped down from the tree and walked back over to her, knowing she hadn't suffered any injuries but looking over her just in case.

"It worked!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around his neck. "Well, sort of. Just a little."

The hanyo pulled her back, his eyes widened. "Really? Is the jewel gone?"

Kagome shook her head. "No, but when I touched the oni and focused on purifying it as well as the jewel, I could feel the jewel itself fighting it. I think that if the oni had been more evil, it would have worked. The evil in the jewel reacted to the evil in the oni, so when I purified the oni, the jewel was starting to automatically purify itself, too."

Inuyasha put his hands on her shoulders and gently squeezed. "So it would have worked even better if the oni were more evil?" He couldn't stop the laugh that he breathed, one of genuine relief and excitement. "Can you imagine how well it would work on Naraku, then? The most evil being in all of Japan, maybe even the world?"

Kagome smiled brightly and nodded excitedly. "I need Naraku to get rid of the jewel. I'm scared out of my wits now because I know this is going to be the hardest thing I've ever done with my spiritual powers, but I think I can do it. As soon as he touches me to try and get the jewel out of my body, it'll all be over for him."

Inuyasha smiled and moved his hands up to cup her cheeks.

"I know you can do it," he encouraged. "There's not a doubt in my mind."

Kagome laughed, the relief evident in the peals of mirth, and she threw herself into Inuyasha's arms, squeezing him tightly.

Inuyasha's eyes closed as he held her close, burying his face in her hair and breathing a sigh of relief.

"I know it's going to get harder," Kagome murmured. "But I don't care. I have actual, genuine hope right now. Even more than when we thought Miroku, 'the sage,' could help us."

"Now we just have to find Naraku," Inuyasha said as he pulled back to look down at her. "But first I have to check in with Sesshomaru again and tell him about it. Maybe his underlings have gotten word of him."

Kagome pulled back and looked up at him in concern.

"I don't want you to go back there," she replied. "Can't you send a letter or something? I don't want him to do the same thing as last time. I hatedseeing you come back like that."

Inuyasha grimaced. Yeah, I didn't like it much either.

"I have good news this time," he soothed. "Real good news. I think that'll help."

Kagome bit her lip, obviously not liking it, but she nodded. "You trust my judgement. So I'll trust yours."

Inuyasha leaned down and pressed his forehead against hers.

"We can do this," he murmured. "I believe in that. I believe in you."

Kagome nodded and leaned up to kiss him. They spent a few moments in silence, just enjoying the brief peace between them. It reminded her of the day they'd spent relaxing at the hot springs for her birthday, just basking in the warmth the water and the day had provided.

It was summer now, so they didn't need the water to stay warm.

Then she realized.

It was summer.

"You know what I just remembered?" Kagome asked.

Inuyasha eyed her. "What?" he asked suspiciously.

"It's summer now," she continued. "So your birthday will be happening this season, right? You didn't say the exact part of summer, so is it soon or later on?"

Inuyasha paused. "It's in four days."

Kagome's eyes widened. "Inuyasha! Why didn't you tell me sooner? I would've just gone about the day as usual and not even known."

"That was kind of the point," Inuyasha replied flatly.

"Oh, stop," Kagome chided. "Don't be like that." She suddenly smiled at him evilly. "I need to make some plans then."

Inuyasha rolled his eyes. "You don't need to make any plans, Kagome."

Kagome rolled her eyes that time. "That's exactly what I said about my birthday and what did you do? You made plans, so now I'm doing the same."

Inuyasha frowned and opened his mouth to argue, but Kagome beat him to it.

"How about this," she began. "We'll have dinner at a tavern and stay at an inn that night. You let me get you a present and we'll call it a day. Yeah?"

Inuyasha ran his hands up and down her back, making her shiver when he lightly scratched with his claws.

"Fine to the inn and the tavern," he conceded. "But no present."

Kagome laughed. "You say that like it's negotiable." Inuyasha couldn't hide his grin.

"You're gonna be the death of me, woman."

Kagome grinned and put her hands on his cheeks, gently squeezing his face to pucker his lips out for her to kiss. "You keep saying that, my love. I think at this point you should just accept it."

O.o.O.o.O

Kagome lay on her back, looking up at the stars above them.

Inuyasha was sleeping soundly on his side next to her, his arm draped over her waist.

Smiling at him when she glanced to the side, she scooted a little closer to him and turned her head against his chest, breathing him in for a moment before turning her attention back to the stars.

She thought she'd felt hope before, but that felt like nothing compared to the sheer relief she'd felt today.

It was because her power today felt tangible and real and substantial.

Kagome could only hope things would go well with Sesshomaru. She didn't know what she would do if Inuyasha found himself in the same condition as last time.

One thing was for certain, though.

She wasn't going to let Inuyasha go alone again.

Already expecting he would immediately protest and try to tell her no, Kagome bit her lip and tried to plan out what she would say.

I'm going with you, Inuyasha. I know I'm just a human, but I could ward off any youkai that tries to hurt you.

She grimaced. That didn't sound like the strongest argument, but she figured she had time to come up with something better.

Inuyasha's birthday would happen before they made it to Sesshomaru's castle, so hopefully his good mood from whatever she would plan would increase her chances of him letting her go.

Speaking of, she decided she needed to go ahead and figure out what to do.

He did the kindest things for me on my birthday...I don't know how I can do anything even remotely as kind as that.

She carefully rolled over and snuggled against his chest, letting herself drift off.

I'll figure something out. I want to show him just how much he means to me.

Three days later, Kagome was antsy about Inuyasha's birthday.

Her heart nearly burst from how much she loved him, how respected she felt by him, how overwhelmingly adored she felt by the most amazing man she'd ever met.

She couldn't even fathom how she'd gotten so lucky. It only made her want to indulge him in whatever he wanted to do for his birthday even more.

The only problem that remained was just what he would want to do in the first place.

As he placed soft kisses on her neck as they lay together under the stars that night, Kagome was reminded how many of their good memories together involved being under the stars together. She only wished she could find a way to encompass it, and she figured that as a painter, Inuyasha probably felt the same way.

That was when she finally figured out what she would do for his birthday.

She hoped he would love it.

O.o.O.o.O

The next morning, Inuyasha woke up to an already awake Kagome smiling down at him, nearly blinding him with her joy.

"Good morning," she said. "Happy birthday."

Inuyasha wrapped his arms around her and pulled her down against his chest.

"Thanks," he replied. "Don't make a big deal."

After only a moment, Kagome moved out of his embrace and sat up.

"Of course I'm going to make a big deal," she chided. "Just go ahead and accept it." She grinned and kissed him. "Now let's get ready for the day. Then we can go ahead and find a town and an inn. We don't have to get a western-style if you want a futon, okay?"

Inuyasha sat up and ran a hand over his face. He wanted a few more minutes to properly wake up, but Kagome looked so damn excited that he couldn't bring himself to ask.

She'd gone along excitedly with what he'd done for her birthday, so the least he could do was the same for her.

"Okay," he replied. "That sounds nice."

Her smile brightened as she pulled him up with her. They gathered their things and went to the closest river to freshen up. When they were done, they went in search of the closest town.

Upon reaching it, they found an inn that was western-style, so Inuyasha suggested getting a room in that one.

"Are you sure?" Kagome asked, tugging on his hand before they went in. "We always get this kind of inn. Do you like them?"

Inuyasha nodded. Technically I do...I like that Kagome likes them.

"Okay," she said when they got their stuff settled. "Why don't you go check out the bathhouse?"

Inuyasha raised an eyebrow. "We went to the river before we came here."

"I have a few things to do in town," Kagome replied pointedly. "So go enjoy a warm bath. Just keep your nose out for me when I come back." She wrinkled her nose in a poor imitation of him, and it was so ridiculously adorable that Inuyasha found himself going along with it.

"Okay," he agreed. "I'll see you soon."

Kagome hugged him tightly and gave him a few parting kisses.

"I love you," she said. "See you in a bit."

"I love you, too," he replied before she left the room.

o.O.o

He didn't spend the entire time in the bathhouse.

He made sure he was nice and clean before leaving, not spending too much extra time there before heading back to their room.

Kagome returned to the room shortly after he came back, and she jumped when she saw him.

"Close your eyes!" she commanded immediately. "No peeking!"

Inuyasha smiled and did as she requested.

He heard her rustling around a bit until he felt the bed shift a bit as she sat down.

"Okay, you can look," she said excitedly.

Inuyasha opened his eyes to see Kagome's eyes sparkling happily as she held out her hands.

He looked down and saw her hands holding out...

Paints.

A paintbrush.

Canvas paper.

She'd gotten him art supplies.

Inuyasha's eyes widened as he took in the gift.

"I realized I've never seen you paint," Kagome said warmly. "And I figured you might miss doing it. Plus...I kinda want to see you do it."

Inuyasha had to swallow a lump that had formed in his throat and choke back the threat of tears.

He kept it together, but it took him a moment to collect himself enough to speak.

"This is," he began softly, "the nicest gift, Kagome. I...I don't even have words." He looked up at her and reached out to cup her cheek. "Thank you so much."

Kagome smiled. "You're welcome. Sorry there's not more paper. This town only has one place I could get art supplies and that was the only one they had left."

Inuyasha chuckled. "That's okay. I'll just make it extra special."

Kagome nodded. "I thought that might be something we could do today. If you want...that might be silly."

Inuyasha shook his head. It was like she'd read his mind; he was already itching to get the brushes and paints in his hands.

"That's the perfect way to spend the day," he replied. He smiled. "You're just the most amazing thing. I don't know how I got so lucky."

Kagome leaned forward to kiss him.

"I don't think it's luck, Inuyasha. It's destiny."

o.O.o

Inuyasha stared at the paper, nibbling on the end of his paintbrush.

He caught himself and pulled the brush from his mouth, remembering his mother's gentle scoldings of biting the brushes with his fangs after he'd broken his fifth one in a row when he was first learning to paint.

The last thing he wanted was to break his gift from Kagome.

She was standing behind him, running her hands over his shoulders and finger-combing through his hair.

She'd started to do it absentmindedly until she realized what she was doing.

"Sorry," she said, removing her hands from him. "Am I distracting you?"

Inuyasha shook his head and smiled up at her. "My muse can't distract me."

Kagome blushed and gently tugged on one of his ears.

Inuyasha chuckled and resumed his perusal of the canvas while Kagome's hands went back to combing through his hair.

So there he was, still trying to figure out what to paint.

Then the inspiration came to him.

"Alright, I have an idea," he said, grabbing the paints he would need.

As he began to paint, Kagome eventually leaned forward to rest her chin on his shoulder, watching him as he worked. Her chocolate-cherry scent surrounded him as he painted, providing the perfect atmosphere for his art.

Every so often, he couldn't resist turning his head to kiss her quickly before resuming his painting.

It was several hours before he was finished, and by then Kagome had moved to sit in a chair next to him at the small table in their room. She sat close enough that she could continue to run her fingers through his hair as he worked.

"Sorry this is taking so long," he said, keeping his gaze on the painting.

Kagome hummed. "I didn't even realize how long it's been. Watching you paint is mesmerizing."

If he weren't so focused, he would have turned to kiss her senseless.

Another hour later, he put the finishing touches on the painting and set his paintbrush down before stretching his hands out.

"Finished," he announced.

Kagome wrapped her arm around him and smiled. "It's beautiful. Is it something you've seen before?"

Inuyasha nodded and turned to look at her. "It's somewhere we went together. Do you remember?"

Kagome paused for a moment until recognition lit up her face.

"Is that from the night of hanami?" she asked excitedly. Inuyasha nodded and watched her look at the painting with something akin to fondness in her eyes.

It was the spitting image of the waning moon over the sakura trees well into the night, the sky littered with stars and several petals and flowers blowing in the wind.

It reminded him of that night when everything really started to change between them, when she'd combed his hair and he'd fallen asleep while she did so.

One of his favorite memories.

"Inuyasha, it's beautiful," she breathed. "It's absolutely perfect."

Inuyasha reached out to take her hand, being mindful not to get any lingering paint on her skin.

"That's the night I started falling in love with you," he admitted. "It was one of the best nights of my life."

He saw tears start to form in Kagome's eyes.

Knowing she wasn't much of a crier, he realized just how much the tribute to that night meant to her.

She reached out to cup his cheek.

"Your mother would be so proud of you," she murmured. "She would be proud of this painting and of who you are as a man. I believe that."

Inuyasha kissed her before standing up from the table.

"I'm gonna wash this paint off," he said, "and then I'm gonna hug the life out of you."

Kagome laughed as he disappeared into the bathroom.

When his hands were clean, he made good on his promise and rushed her, pulling her into his arms and hugging her tightly.

Inuyasha finally let her go when he heard her stomach start to growl, and that's when he realized they'd missed breakfast.

"Let's go get lunch," he said, kissing her a few more times before letting go of her. "Did you see any taverns that looked good when you were out earlier?" Kagome nodded and grabbed the money from her bag.

"I'll pay," Inuyasha said.

Kagome shook her head and smiled.

"It's your birthday," she reminded him. "I'm not gonna let you use your fake-psychic money to pay for your special meal."

Inuyasha laughed. "Fine, fine. You ready?"

Kagome took his hand as they left the room.

"Let's go!"

o.O.o

After a hearty lunch followed by a long string of stolen kisses behind the building, Kagome took his hand again.

"There's one more thing," she said. Inuyasha's eyes widened.

"There's more?" he asked. "How did you even have time to do this?"

Kagome laughed. "I have my ways."

She dragged him through the town until they reached a small building.

Before they entered, Kagome nudged him.

"Just let me do the talking," she whispered. Inuyasha frowned, bewildered.

What is she planning?

They walked up to the counter of the shop and Kagome nodded at the clerk.

"I'm picking something up for Aya," she said subtly. The clerk nodded in understanding before beckoning her to follow him.

Kagome grinned at Inuyasha as they walked into a somewhat hidden room in the back of the shop.

"It's ready for you, ma'am," he said. "It was done to the best of our ability on such short notice. I ask for your continued discretion. You paid this morning, so you're free to go ahead and take it." He handed her a small bag and she took it happily.

Kagome nodded. "Thank you so much for this. My fiance here will love it." His eyes widened at the title, but Kagome only smiled at him before bidding the clerk goodbye.

Once they exited the store, Inuyasha wrapped his arm around her.

"Fiance?" he repeated. Kagome blushed and didn't meet his gaze.

"I figured it would convince him to do it quicker," she admitted. "I'm sorry."

Inuyasha tightened his arm around her. "It's okay. It's not too far off from the truth."

Kagome smiled up at him and wrapped her arm around his waist.

"You're right."

When they reached the inn, Kagome excitedly led him upstairs and into their room.

She sat him on the bed before offering the bag.

Inuyasha opened it and pulled out a new belt. At first glance, it looked like just a typical belt to hold pants up, but then he realized it was for his sword.

"I figured you could use a new one," Kagome said. "The one you have when you wear your sword looked pretty old. I had to use a fake name because that shop is kind of a secret because of the new laws about swords. Luckily the clerk made it happen on pretty short notice."

Inuyasha ran his hands over the new belt and shook his head.

"I can't believe how perfect you've managed to make this day," he said. "Thank you, Kagome. That's not enough to even begin to describe how much I've loved today."

Inuyasha kissed her, covering her in passion and trying his hardest to remind her of just how loved she was.

He felt her skin warm, and he smiled against her lips as she burned him.

"Inuyasha," she murmured, pulling away. "Um...there's actually one more present for you."

Lifting his head up, Inuyasha smiled exasperatedly. "Another gift, woman?"

Kagome blushed. "This gift is….a little different."

Peering at her, Inuyasha brushed the hair from her eyes. "Okay. What is it?"

Working up her nerve, Kagome cupped his cheeks in her palms.

"Me."

It took a moment for Inuyasha to fully understand what she meant, but she could tell the moment he did.

His eyes widened, his breath caught, and his smile turned softer and warmer.

"You?" he asked softly. "Really?"

Kagome nodded. "What do you think?"

Inuyasha fell to her, kissing her and running his hands all over her.

"Yes," he murmured.

Happiness, contentment, and love, were all made that night.

O.o.O.o.O

The next day, Kagome woke up with Inuyasha sprawled on her body.

She smiled at the weight of him and sighed contentedly.

They'd had a long day, and night, of celebrating, so she wasn't surprised he was still sleeping. Even she couldn't help but yawn again, still feeling a bit tired. Glancing out the window, she saw it was probably mid-morning.

Unable to doze off again, Kagome just closed her eyes and used the silence as a calming moment, trying to keep herself in the happy bubble she and Inuyasha had created the day before.

When Inuyasha began to stir a little while later, Kagome smiled and began to run her hands through his hair.

He sat up on his elbows and smiled down at her, looking into her eyes with enough affection to have her blushing.

She pulled him down into a kiss, admiring the way he immediately responded, burying his hand in her hair for a moment until he pulled away.

"Let's get married," he said suddenly.

Kagome's eyes widened. "What?"

Inuyasha ran his hand along her arm. "I love you and you love me...we know we always will, so...why not? Because it's only been a couple of months? I don't care about that. Besides, you called me your fiance yesterday, so...?"

Kagome looked up at him, stunned into silence.

"Inuyasha...how would we even do that right now? You know how hard it is to get married here, especially at my age, and I don't...I don't have any family to approve it."

Inuyasha paused, and she could tell he was trying to think of a solution.

After a moment, he spoke.

"Do you have your paper thing?" he asked. "I don't remember what humans call it. The thing that lists your family."

"Oh, my registration sheet," Kagome supplied. "Yeah, I do."

"We could try just using that," Inuyasha suggested. "I'll just hide my ears so they don't realize I'm a youkai. The hat you made me always does a good job hiding them."

Kagome bit her lip and looked at him for a few moments. He made a good point; she had the registration, just no family to approve of it, but maybe it would work...

She half-expected Inuyasha to take it back, to blush in embarrassment and tell her he was joking or it was a "heat of the moment" situation, but he didn't.

The only thing she saw in his face, in his eyes, was certainty.

He was certain about her.

And she was certain about him.

Kagome found herself laughing from happiness and nodding eagerly.

"Yes."

His eyes widened. "Really?"

Kagome smiled and nodded again. "How could I say no?" Her smile turned to a grin as she glanced down at his bare torso. "Especially after last night?"

He blushed and pounced on her, kissing all over her face.

"Death of me, woman."

o.O.o

Much to Kagome's pleasant surprise, they were able to use her registration sheet for their marriage.

When Inuyasha was added to her family record, Kagome had to choke back tears. She never thought she would be able to find love after the way her life played out, but she'd somehow done it.

They decided to stay at the inn again for their first night as a married couple, and the happiness that Kagome felt nearly made her explode.

"Hey, we're married," Inuyasha said as they lay down that night. "Isn't that weird?"

Kagome laughed. "Yeah, it kinda is. But in a good way."

Inuyasha rolled over to cover her body and gently pulled the iris pin from her hair, knowing the locks would soon become too tangled to get it out later.

"Yeah, in a very good way."

To be continued...

I've never written InuKag getting married in the middle of a story before, normally that's what goes in my epilogue lol but like I said, I finished writing this story without a real intention to post the rest, so I kinda just did whatever the hell I wanted. I hope it turned out well and that you all like it!

I did research on marriages/weddings in Meiji Japan so the registration sheet/Kagome mentioning her age/difficulty is all in line with the time period. Hell yeah I do my research #historian
