Chapter One

A week had gone, and her wounds were nearly completely healed at long last. Sango had been right- left in the place where her deeper wounds had once been were rather nasty-looking scars. Apparent and angry, the marks jaggedly danced down her back like some sort of beast's claws. From between her shoulder blades to the swell of her hips, they were impossible to ignore. They matched the odder scar on the left side of her ribcage, where the jewel had gotten ripped free from her body all the way back then.

Though it all felt like so long ago, she knew that wasn't the case. Three months. That's how long it'd been, but it didn't feel like that. It almost felt like three years, instead. So much had happened in such a short period of time, and it all had changed her and her life in such drastic ways. She didn't regret any of it, of course, but it was hard to ignore the impact that had been left behind.

Kagome hid the urge to sigh and closed her eyes, a light breeze lifting her left-loose hair in a gentle dance. The raven locks had grown past the upper part of her back, the ends now reaching the small of her back.

The only ones living at the shrine were Sango and herself, along with Kirara. Her mother, grandfather, and brother had ended up dying in a car accident a few weeks prior to the final fight in the past. Bringing Sango to the present with her hadn't only been so Sango wouldn't be on her own, but so she wouldn't be on her own either. She was glad she brought her over with her.

The shrine was left in her name, and both of them were able to handle the upkeep work it needed to keep it in nice condition. They took care of themselves just fine.

At a crosswalk, she came to a halt and took in her surroundings for a split second. Where was she heading again? Oh, right! She'd been heading to the store to pick up some more medical supplies, considering most of what had been at the shrine had gotten used up rather quickly due to their wounds. Now that she was well enough to go out on her own, she'd offered to so after school let out that day.

Kagome sighed, shaking her head as she settled on the path to the store. "If I keep getting caught up in my thoughts, then I'm gonna end up getting lost." Her senses were still coming back to her, and her ability to pick up on auras was one of the ones still recovering. Normally she could rely on that to get around, but she was stuck without it for the time being.

She'd resumed going to school, and in a few more days, Sango would join her. She'd told her friends about her cousin who was now living with her, and they were all excited to meet her. She'd managed to keep them from visiting until Sango was more used to the modern age. She wasn't completely used to it yet, but she was adapting quickly. Enough so that she wouldn't cause any questions, at least, and that was good enough for her! Sango hadn't been happy about the idea of keeping her weapons at the shrine whenever she left, but with enough insistence and encouragement that there weren't random demons to be found, she reluctantly complied. For the most part, at least. She still had her hidden blade on her arm with her most of the time, but her sword and hiraikotsu were left behind whenever Sango left the shrine.

She was busy running through the list of supplies she needed in her head, her gaze fixed on her feet. Wrapped up in her thoughts, walking the path she memorized long ago due to her dangerous habit of fighting demons in the past, she was abruptly knocked from her mind when she ran into someone's turned back. She stumbled a bit and caught herself before she ended up falling flat on her ass. She was about to apologize for running into the unfamiliar figure, only to retreat a step when the figure in question whirled around, sending her a glare that was meant to be frightening, she knew. However… after her past, humans were hardly things she was scared by. Before the words could slip free from her, she was silenced by him opening his mouth.

"Oi, bitch, watch where you're going." The harsh bark made her eyes narrow instantly. Her attempt at an apology was immediately forgotten by her as she changed her mind in a single second. She met this person- a high schooler boy with a group of five more behind him, by the look of it, with her own, chilling glare, ice seeping into normally bright blue eyes. She set a hand on her hip and fearlessly jabbed the other directly into his chest, stomping her foot and shoving him back with a surprising bit of strength. He sauntered back, steps far too arrogant for her liking, and she narrowed her eyes.

"How about you don't take up the entire sidewalk like you own the damn place," she snapped back, all prior thoughts of an apology pushed back by her irritation. Like hell she was gonna apologize to this guy after calling her names! He could go walk blindfolded across a busy highway for all she cared! "Maybe if you did that, people wouldn't walk into you in the first place!"

"Pretty mouthy for some middle school brat, don't ya' think?" he scoffed, glancing back at his friends as they joined in, heckling her with mumbles of agreement and snickers. "Wanna play all big and bad, huh?"

She rolled her eyes and decided to try and go around them entirely as she ignored his last comment. "Ugh… whatever," she huffed under her breath. She didn't have the time to sit around and argue with a bunch of idiots that just seemed to be looking for a fight.

As she went around them, she was yanked to a harsh stop when the one that'd been talking to her snatched her by her wrist and forced her to come to a halt.

"Hey, no one said you could leave."

Kagome didn't bother to try and hide her irritation as she glanced down at his hand clutching tightly around her wrist. His grip was tight enough to cause bruising. She lifted her gaze, blue landing on his face. "Let. Go." she bit out harshly. He laughed, his friends joining in as she got surrounded by them. He tightened his grip even more and tugged her a bit closer, forcing her legs to move.

"You think you can give someone like me orders, bitch?" he scoffed. "You leave when I say."

She arched a brow. "No, no," she said, "that doesn't sound quite right to me," she hummed thoughtfully. "Now! I'll give you one more chance," she added. "Let me go." She was answered with taunting laughs and another hand falling to land heavily on her shoulder. She sighed and shook her head. "Okay, well, now you're just asking for it. Don't go saying I didn't give you plenty of chances."

"The fuck's that supposed to-!"

His taunting statement was cut short when she brought her leg up and slammed her knee directly into his ribs. He let go of her and doubled over, stumbling a bit as he heaved. She didn't hesitate as she brought her elbow down on his back, sending him face-first onto the pavement. As surprise lingered over the rest, she spun and brought her fist down on the face of the second one who'd let his hand land on her, sending him down to the pavement just as easily as she'd done to the first.

The four others backed away from her a bit and she offered them a bright smile. "Now!" she exclaimed with a laugh before all amusement left her face. "Since you guys were smart enough to keep your hands to yourselves, I'll be kind and let you have one last chance. How about you guys stop being a bunch of creeps harassing a young girl and get out of my way before I actually get mad?"

They stared at her, blocking her path like a wall, and she got the feeling they'd be just as stupid as their buddies. Birds of a feather, after all. Still, it was no sweat to her giving them a chance to wisen up. If not, well… she'd was more than ready to repeat the cycle until she got her message across. She hummed softly, craning her head to the side, ignoring the groans from the ones laying on the ground as if she hadn't just knocked them down so easily. After a couple of seconds of them still there, blocking her way, she sighed under her breath.

Just as she was about to step up to them, someone beat her to it, joining and passing her easily.

"Oi, you're blocking the way." The comment was flat, dry, and she watched as the new figure brought his foot up and slammed it in the stomach of one of the older boys standing opposite of them. Kagome watched wordlessly, eyes widened in silent awe as they cowered back as if they'd just run head-first into some beast. Seemingly in a single second, all of their arrogance faded from their paling faces.

"Geeze, losers who try and hurt girls are just so lame."

Another voice from behind her caught her attention, and she turned, giving into curiosity. Her eyes met a pair of deep back, and she craned her head to the side. A wry smile appeared on her face as she internally agreed with the statement. She couldn't have put it better if she'd tried.

She heard the sound of thundering footsteps as the boys that'd been blocking the path just moments ago took off, and she was confused. They'd definitely become so afraid so quickly. It was a little funny, actually, just how quickly their persona's changed. She turned, spotting the two she'd knocked down gone as well.

"Oh, well, at least they picked up their trash," she hummed softly, prodding her chin with a finger. She paused and craned her head to the side before she shrugged, a more chipper smile peppering her face "I didn't really need the help, but thanks anyway.

"Probably not," the shorter of the two responded. "Saw you knock the other two down. Guess the others should've heeded your warning, huh?"

Kagome shrugged and stifled a laugh. "Well, thanks again. You guys really scared 'em off." She wasn't about to complain, not when they'd made her problems vanish. She wasn't one to overlook a lucky chance like that. If she came home with a scratch or anything like that, Sango wouldn't be happy, that was for sure.

"So, say, what's your name?"

Kagome blinked owlishly at the abrupt question. She pushed the confusion away and answered after a second or two. "Oh. You can just call me Kagome if you want." She paused and tilted her head to the side an inch or two, looking over the boy watching her with a smile fixed on his face.

Messy blonde hair that fell down to his shoulders, his bangs brushed back into a ponytail, and deep black eyes. He wasn't much taller than her five-foot-tall build, but it was still enough that she had to look up to meet his stare. His friend, on the other hand, was much more intimidating. His head was mostly shaved with what remained of his hair, blonde and longer as well, pulled back in a braid at the top of his head. The tattoo on the side of his head definitely added to his intimidation factor. His eyes were a dark black, too, but he was much taller.

"Oh! Like that kid's game," he exclaimed cheerfully, and her expression soured at the comment.

"Yeah. Sure. That's the one," she responded bluntly, her tone sinking with irritation. Her immense hatred of that game resurfaced in a single second as he said those words.

Kagome left the store with her needed shopping done. As she stepped out onto the sidewalk, she let out a sigh of relief. Talk about a wild experience to have the first day she went back to school. She was more than relieved that she'd convinced her friends not to come visit the shrine like they'd wanted to. It was bad enough for her to get mixed up in trouble like that, but if they had? She could defend herself just fine, but the thought of one of them getting hurt by creeps like that made her nerves jumble up.

As she walked down the street, she let her mind stray back to the other two she'd met, thinking a bit more fondly of them as opposed to the others.

She'd been in a hurry to get what she needed to do done, so she'd left almost right after learning their names, thanking them once more, and then all but rushing off.

Mikey, and his taller friend that he'd called Ken-chin. The following second she learned he went by Draken, as told to her by the irritated boy himself.

Kagome let out a hum as she rounded a corner. For some reason, she couldn't shake the sense of familiarity those names brought up. It washed over her, but she couldn't put her finger on why they sounded so familiar. She hadn't put any thought to it at the moment, and she hadn't bothered to ask any more questions before she left.

"I could swear I've heard those names before…" she mumbled thoughtfully to herself. She couldn't remember where, though. From school, most likely, as she walked down the halls or something similar. After a few seconds of thinking it over, she shrugged and finally shook it off. "Ah… nevermind it for now."

If she ran into them again or if she didn't, what'd it matter? She had other things to do than dwell over things like boys.

Auroua-chan: I'm sorry this chapter took so long to finish. I'm not abandoning this story, so don't worry.

Anyway, moving on!
Sango's gonna be going to Kagome's school, and she's gonna be meeting the nosy trio that are Kagome's friends. She'll make a nice addition. Sesshoumaru will come in soon, and he'll add a nice dynamic alongside the two. Kagome comes off as soft, sweet, and mostly defenseless, even though she's capable of defending herself. Most people won't realize that until it's too late.

So Kagome's met Mikey and Draken. Her fate's been sealed.

Anyway that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Thank you all for reading! I hope I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
