Make sure to check tags for any triggers! Let me know if there are any I missed. This is short and was a paper for my forensics class. The plot/murder is from an anime, but for the life of me, I don't remember the name. (Sorry Tori) fuck... I'll think of it eventually.
anyways enjoy!
EDIT: It was Corpse Party!
Don't Tell
"Oi, Jaeger! Come here!" The captain's voice suddenly called out, the hustle and bustle of the office quickly dying down at the sound of his abnormally loud voice. Newly appointed detective Eren Jaeger quickly stood up from his desk chair, a hand fisted over his heart in a salute to his superior. "Y-yes, sir!" The brunet quickly shouted in reply, quickly organizing the papers he had been glancing at for his colleague Armin and briskly walked over. The raven-haired man had already walked into his office, so Eren hurried his pace in fear of angering him. The lanky newbie entered the pristine room, realizing this may be the first time he had ever been in there.
Captain Levi Ackerman, or the Captain as everyone called him, was quite a reclusive man and wasn't very sociable. He only ever came out of his office to correct work and make his rounds about the office to make sure everyone was doing their jobs. Eren learned very quickly that Levi ran a tight ship, and any sort of clutter or dirt was not allowed. He was a tough boss, but he was kind, and Eren had looked up to him for a long time. Captain Levi Ackerman had a reputation as one of the best detectives in the world. Every case presented to him, he solved. No matter how complex or how little evidence there was, he'd be able to spot things with his piercing silver eyes that everyone before him missed. He was the reason Eren wanted to investigate crime in the first place, although he'd never admit that out loud. The room was unsurprisingly clean but surprisingly had very little personal touch. Plain white walls, a mahogany desk with a stack of papers neatly placed next to a laptop. Everything about the room seemed bare, not a single picture frame of friends or loved ones, no macaroni art from kids, no decorations for the quickly approaching holiday season. I heard he was a loner but this is a bit much.
"Officer Jaeger. There's a new case and I'm going to teach you on the job." Levi spoke up as soon as Eren shut the door behind him. Eren's whole body lit up in excitement. A case?! That I get to go on with my childhood hero!? Is this a dream? "Really?! Thank you, sir! I'll do everything I can!" Eren quickly replied, sitting in the small chair across from Levi at his prompting. "Tch, just don't screw up. This is an important case. We're dealing with the homicide of 3 children ages 7 and 8 as well as the suicide of 39-year-old Flegel Reeves. As of now, there is one survivor currently being held at the Hospital fo Trost. The crime was discovered yesterday at Shiganshina Elementary." Captain Levi explained, picking up a few folders from the desk and handing them over to the horrified recruit. "This is what the officers at the scene have documented so far. I'm going to need you to head to the forensics lab after you look over the notes and document what they find." Levi finished, going back to typing at his laptop as the boy looked at the thick manila folders in his hand. "I… yes I'll do it. Thank you, captain. I won't let you down." Eren saluted, leaving the room when all he got in answer was a grunt.
At his desk, he quickly opened the files and began to look at the photos. No way. The gruesome scene nearly had the young officer retching. From what he could see, there were three small bodies laying side by side on a concrete floor. In the far right corner, he could also see the body of Flegel Reeves hanging from a wooden beam. Eren's heart ached for the kids, knowing they were probably terrified in their last moments of life. Hopefully, they passed quickly and painlessly, the poor things. Oh, how wrong he was. As he flipped from photo to photo, he quickly noticed how horrifying their final moments must have been.
The first child, Thomas Wagner, was a 7-year-old and second grader in Mrs. Reiss's class at Shiganshina Elementary. He was stabbed 12 times in the abdomen, and 3 times in each arm. The poor desecrated corpse clearly showed the terror he felt in his last moments, eyes and mouth wide open in an eternal scream for help that would never come for him. Eren also noticed written on the back of the photo, was that his tongue had been cut off.
The second victim, Mina Carolina, was also a 7 year old in Mrs. Reiss' class. She was also stabbed in the abdomen, but only twice. Her tongue was also cut off, however, the worst of it was the fact that her head above her jawline had been completely severed from the body. Eren cringed, trying not to imagine the scene as it happened to instead look at the third child.
Miles Zeremski, a third-grader in Mr. Schultz's class and was 8 years old. He was stabbed in the legs, perhaps from trying to run and the murderer decided to prevent further escape. His left eye had been carved out, his tongue cut off, stabbed once in the right shoulder, and 3 times in the abdomen. From what he could see in the photos, it seemed to be a small dark room with a mostly concrete floor and wood beams on the ceiling. The man hanging in the corner, presumably Flegel Reeves, seemed to be facing away from the kids from where he hung. Eren couldn't tell for sure if this was because his body spun at some point or if he hung himself facing away from the kids. Sick bastard. Probably knew that there was no way he'd go unpunished by the law. His body was covered in blood, no doubt due to the horrific nature of the crime.
Eren sighed and pulled out the officers' notes on the last victim, Historia Reiss. "When I arrived at the scene, she was sitting next to the bodies, a blank expression on her face as she stared at the wall. Her whole front was covered in blood, her hands, dress, and hair especially. She barely noticed me and Officer Bouzard's entry. We called out to her multiple times, but she ignored us until we asked her what happened. She got rather violent, hitting Officer Bouzard's hand and even lunging for me. We expected her to be rightfully traumatized and gave her space, trying to comfort her that she was safe now. She only screamed at us and said what we both think might have been "They joined mommy, my mommy is here" repeatedly as medical enforcement arrived. It was hard to tell what she was saying as she was screaming and her words were very slurred. It was at that point, that medical officer Marco Bott informed me as they took her away that her tongue had been cut off. The murder weapon seems to be a pair of scissors that Officer Bouzard found near where the girl was sitting. They were covered in blood and were the only object in the room that could be found other than a stool and dirty rags probably used as gags and or blindfolds."
Eren stopped reading, letting out a long sigh before turning to his computer. Whoever did this will surely pay!
"A murder case? Are you sure?" Jean asked, annoying the brunet currently staring at the board full of leads. Eren rolled his eyes and pointed to the photo of the three beheaded children. "Oh, I don't know Jean. Perhaps there's a new disease going around where you get stabbed multiple times." Eren sneered, already annoyed by the two-toned officer's presence. God, of all the people to annoy him why did it have to be horse face? "Jeez, what's got your panties in a bunch?"
"There's a homicidal maniac on the loose and Captain Levi is counting on me!" Eren shouted angrily, fisting his brown locks and looking over the board of evidence for what felt like the thousandth time. Jean raised a brow and looked at the board quizzically. "I thought this was rather easy. Isn't it obvious the guy killed the kids and hung himself?" He asked, taking a sip of his coffee and moving to lean against the desk adjacent to the board.
"Pfft," Eren huffed. "I wish. But I don't think it was him. I think he was merely an accomplice in the whole scheme." Eren muttered, going over to the board and pointing to the photo of Flegel Reeves. "All the blood splatters on his body are concentrated on his back as if he was facing away from the murders as they happened. They also have a splatter-like pattern, as if he merely splashed from farther away. I had Armin test the blood found in the cloth and he found it was a match to Thomas Wagner, the victim closest to that side of the room, and he found no traces of the other two victims on him at all. They found DNA evidence that matches his under two of the victim's nails and hair strands that also matched his on all their bodies, so he definitely was a part of it, but I don't think he killed them." Eren explained, pointing to each photo as he spoke before looking at the picture of the murder weapon. "The forensics team couldn't even find fingerprints matching his on the scissors. The ones they found were hardly usable and too small. Also… why would he kill three children and then hang himself? He left the fourth girl alive, untied, and completely unharmed… wait…"
Eren quickly ran over to the desk, pushing the unsuspecting officer out of the way to quickly search the file on the lone survivor. "Oi! Don't shove me!" Jean protested but Eren quickly shushed him. "Does the name Reiss ring any bells?" Eren asked quickly. "Reiss? Yeah, actually it does. That was the last name of a rape victim case I shadowed last year. She was a nurse at Shiganshina Elementary until she fell down the stairs and broke her neck." Jean explained, cocking his head as he took in his longtime friend. "Why? What does it have to do with this case? It was ruled an accidental death." Jean asked. The brunet shook his head and started flipping through the file until he found the name of Historia's legal guardian. "Was her name Alma?"
"Yeah. How did you know?"
"The fourth victim's name is Historia Reiss. Her legal guardians are listed as Rod and Alma Reiss. You said she was a rape victim?" Eren questioned quickly, opening his tablet and pulling out a pen to quickly jot down notes as he listened. "Uh… yeah, the coroner said she showed signs of rather rough treatment and forced entry, as well as hand-shaped bruises all along her body. What really nailed it though was the diary entry they found in her office. She wrote a little about it and mentioned that she wasn't sure she wanted to go to the police. She died the day she wrote the entry according to the date. It was ruled an accidental death with no leads and no evidence of foul play, but I still think someone must've pushed her." So Historia's mother died in the school. If she saw this happen or found out about where her mom died, her words in the police report would make sense.
"Who reported the accident?" He asked, going to the board and adding the information as he spoke. "I believe it was the principal. They suspected it could be him, but he had an alibi and a witness. Before you ask it was his son." Jean added with a smirk, grabbing Eren's coffee and stealing a sip while the brunet was occupied. Eren stopped writing immediately, turning to Jean with horror in his eyes. "The principal!? His son!? That man's son is Flegel Reeves! He's the prime suspect of this case!" Eren shouted, grabbing Jean by the shirt and shooing him out of his workspace. "Hey! What-!" Jean started but was quickly interrupted by Eren's hurried speech.
"I need you to forward me all details of that case! It could be connected to the murders." Eren ordered, pushing him out of his temporary workspace and shooing him along when he merely stared. "Go! Time is of the essence!" What could this mean? She mentioned something about her mommy being there. What could it mean?
"Eren. Don't overwork yourself." Mikasa chided as she placed a warm mug of hot cocoa on his desk. Eren barely left his office for the last few days. Sending emails to the forensic team and waiting for results, interviewing, and filing his reports as he searched for his prime suspect. He even managed to go visit Historia in the hospital, but she wasn't much in the mood for talking. Eren feared the worst, that his gut feeling was right. He waved off his childhood friend, refreshing his email again in hopes of getting the long-awaited results to the blood on Historia's shirt as well as the fingerprint matchups on the murder weapon. "What's wrong?" She asked instead, clearly realizing that he looked more troubled than usual.
"It's this case. I think… well… right now I think it was Historia who killed them." Eren admitted, ignoring the rare wide-eyed stare from his black-haired friend. "Historia?! The little girl?" She asked in shock, sitting in the chair next to him when he nodded. "Why?"
"Well… in the end it all adds up. She had the blood of all three victims splattered all over her clothes, hair, and hands when they found her. Flegel Reeves could have been the killer, but I think he lured or kidnapped the kids. She was the only survivor, but not a single injury. These kids were brutally murdered, no mercy or remorse was shown to them. Yet it was expected that he just up and killed himself before he finished the job? Not to mention, she wasn't tied up at all. All the other kids had bruises on their wrists from how tightly they were bound, but she had no bruises nor any indication that she was even tied up. Once the forensics lab sends me the results, they'll tell me if they were able to identify the surviving prints on the scissors and match them with her." Eren explained, about to continue when he heard the familiar beep of his laptop. The email. He darted up and around the desk, adrenaline running through him when he saw it was from Armin.
"Eren, the prints we found on the scissors are in fact identical to the prints of Miss Historia Reiss. I've added the evidentiary photos as an attachment as well as the report from Chief Smith." Eren was stunned. I… I was right. But that means Historia Reiss, a 7-year-old student at Shiganshina Elementary, murdered 3 children. "Eren? Eren!? Are you ok?" Mikasa questioned, running over to gently shake him when he merely stared frozen at the screen. Of all the things running through his mind, his most outstanding thought was why. Why would a 7-year-old commit such a horrendous crime?
The story of the "Don't Tell" murders became infamous for its gore and horror. After a rigorous interview, they had found the motive they were looking for. On the day Historia's mother was raped, she had watched her fall down the stairs and die. It was no accident, Dimo Reeves, the principal of Shiganshina Elementary, had been pursuing her. They interviewed him and managed a confession. He confessed that he had raped her a few days before, and when he tried again that day, she ran from him. In her haste, she fell down the stairs and died from a broken spinal cord. Upon realizing there was a witness to the crime, he beat the girl and threatened to kill her and her father should she ever tell anyone what she saw. The girl was in grief and pain, but she was also enraged at the injustice of it all. She one day found her opening when she saw Flegel Reeves doing rather inappropriate things in the locker room, in order to keep her quiet about the ordeal, he promised to help her with anything she wanted.
He kidnapped three students as Historia asked, under the impression she would be beating them for bullying her. In reality, Historia chose the three because they frequented the nurse's office often and she knew that in life her mother had adored them. So to ensure her mother's ghost wasn't lonely, she murdered the children. She cut out their tongues so that they wouldn't tell her mom that it was her doing. She channeled the violent rage she felt against the principal and took it out on her classmates, much to the horror of Flegel. At his realization that because of him these children died, he killed himself. Dimo was not far after. Once he was sentenced to prison for accidental manslaughter and rape, he killed himself in his cell. Historia Reiss was sent to a correctional facility, but upon showing no remorse nor progress, was also sentenced to jail.
I WILL remember the name. Eventually. This is gonna bother me.
