Disclaimer: Fullmetal Alchemist is much too awesome to belong to me.
Sorry for the long wait again. My mom is always kicking me off of the computer. This time I got bad grades.
Well, this chapter is kinda, no totally OOC. But I like it that way.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Chapter 17 An Island under the Stars"So… how did you guys end up like that?"
Al was asking again.
"I told you already," Ed grumbled. "She was cold."
Al made a noise that showed very clearly that he wasn't buying it.
"Uh-huh…" he said.
XXX
"Ed, what's that?"
We were walking through Dublith again (this time by ourselves). I pointed to a small, barely-visible chunk of land on the edge of the lake that surrounded the city limits.
"That's Yock Island," he said. "Al and I trained there as boys."
Nothing I didn't know.
"Can I go there?" I asked, more over saying, "Will you take me?"
"Well…" he replied. "Teacher does have a boat…"
I hour later…"Okay, so you two will be back first thing tomorrow, right?"
Izumi was checking a few last minute things. I was still uneasy. I had never agreed to spend the night on the island. With Ed. And no one else.
"Yes, yes, Teacher," Ed said. "You know we will."
XXX
"How did you talk her into that?"
I watched as Ed used powerful arm strokes to row the small wooden boat to the island.
"Teacher doesn't really care."
We arrived at the island, and Ed hopped down onto the sand. I noticed that he had left his jacket in the boat.
"Hey, don't forget your jacket!"
I picked it up, and it weighed down like an anchor.
"What the?"
Ed turned around.
I looked inside the jacket, and pulled out a large bottle of dark liquid.
"What is this?"
"Oh," Ed said, a blush playing across his face. "It's sake. I snuck it from Teacher's house.
"Sake?"
I had never had sake before. My mom wouldn't let me have it.
"I've never had that before."
"Me neither." Ed said, smiling innocently.
"Well, why did you bring it?"
"I wanted some."
Quite an excuse.
XXX
Later that night…"You want some now?"
It was pretty late, and we had spent the day exploring. We had made a bed of leaves on the ground, and we were sitting on it.
Ed held out the bottle to me. I took a small drink. It was really good.
30 minutes later…
I held the nearly empty bottle in my hand. There were three Ed's in front of me now. Or maybe my vision was just blurred. We had spent the last half-hour talking and drinking. A little too much, I think.
Then, out of nowhere, we pulled each other close.
"I had a feeling this would happen." I sighed.
Ed smiled.
"You know, this may be the sake talking," I said. "But I love you."
Of course, the rice wine had nothing to do with it. But Ed was too stoned to realize.
"Just go with it." He whispered.
…
"I can't."
My stupid conscience got in the way. I knew that with us being drunk like this, we might do something dumb.
Yeah.
He sighed, and fell over on the leaves. I followed suit, and the last thing I saw were the shining dots in the sky.
XXX
My eyes fluttered open, the bright sunlight stinging even though the trees filtered it. I stared around. Ed was asleep against an oak tree, and I was spread out on the leaf bed, using Ed's jacket as a blanket.
The empty bottle of sake was still lying on the ground. I can't believe we drank the whole thing.
Ed stirred, and slumped down, which woke him instantly.
"Uh… where am I?"
I sighed. Ed was a lot more fun when he was sober.
XXX
I pushed the boat out into the water, and began rowing. I wasn't quite as hung over as Ed, so I rowed back while he dozed in the bottom of the boat.
Reaching the shore of Dublith, I nudged him awake, and we walked back to Izumi's house. He was so drunk.
We hadn't even stepped through the door, when I heard a shrill yell.
"EDWARD!"
Izumi came darting through the rooms.
"Please don't yell." I pleaded.
"Edward," Izumi said calmly, lowering her voice. "Where did my bottle of sake go?"
"Not so loud, Teacher..."
T.B.C…
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Yay! My Edo was wasted! And so was I!
Uh… I think I should advance the plot, and meet somebody else soon.
Yeah, I just might do that.
Review!
