Buttercup was the first to awaken on the dreary, late November morning. She checked the clock. It was only seven.
"Can only chill out so much if I wanna make the most of the day."
The puff slowly rose from the bed, careful not to disturb her sisters' serene slumber. She knew how cranky they could get without their beauty rest. She prepared her clothes before hovering to the bathroom.
The warmth from her shower perked buttercup right up. She brushed her teeth and hair, changing into a black t-shirt, dark jeans, a black trench coat, and a pair of combat boots. She locked a spiked choker around her neck, applying lipstick and eyeliner for the finishing touches.
"Lookin' good." she stated confidentially. She returned to the room she shared with her sisters.
While she waited for her sisters to rise, Buttercup read an erotic romance novel in the dark, using the glow from her night vision to see. She knew the professor would kill her if he found something like this in their room, but on the flipside, what could he really do? Confiscating it would be little more than a temporary inconvenience. If he found it, she could just hide the next one in a better spot. Her sisters were unlikely to rat her out since they read stuff like it, too.
Buttercup listened to a personalized compilation of 90's metalcore while she read. Blossom and Bubbles awoke closer to nine. They noticed their sibling reading in the chair by the windows.
"You should probably put that away," Blossom advised, "The professor will be up to check on us soon."
"May as well. The good stuff doesn't start until the middle, anyway."
Buttercup complied with her sister's suggestion. She hid the book under the support structure of the bed frame. Blossom yawned and stretched. She rubbed her face, brushing the sand from her eyes.
"We'll start playing after we get our showers."
"I'll set up the network."
Blossom nodded.
After breakfast, the professor headed down to his lab. Buttercup switched the music from her headphones to her laptop. She kept it at a reasonable volume to avoid damaging their hearing. She connected each of their computers to the network in their room.
The girls started with a round of Quake 3. From there, they moved on to the Doom series. Blossom played the original while Bubbles and Buttercup tore through the second and third games respectively. The feeling of slaughtering demons made Buttercup feel like a bona fide badass.
Once Doom was finished, the triplets took a break, grabbing lunch and a few snacks to last them through the day. Each of them picked an RPG to play. Buttercup decided on the patched PC port of Final Fantasy VII. Bubbles went with an emulated copy of Shadow Hearts. For her part, Blossom decided on Parasite Eve. It was only about half as long as the other selections, but it was packed with enough content to keep her entertained. They stuck with their games of choice until the sun went down.
For their final showstopper, the girls ran through the original Resident Evil trilogy. When all was said and done, they cleaned up the wrappers, trays, and cups from the floor.
"We'll be back at school on Monday." Buttercup noted.
"Don't remind me." Blossom responded.
"I thought you liked school."
"What sounds better to you: being lectured on boring bullshit with little relevance to the real world or shooting zombies in the face?"
"You got me there."
"My only concern right now is finding some new stuff to play. Most of what comes out these days is repetitive, uninspired garbage."
"We'll look for something interesting before we go to bed. If nothing else, we'll experiment until we find something we like."
"Good idea."
The rain never let up throughout the day. Back upstairs, Blossom shut the door. Once the siblings were snuggled safely in their bed, she turned off the lamp on their side desk. Their breathing slowed as they surrendered themselves to the precipitation's white noise...
