The existential dread and general boredom with life eventually flared up like it always did. When that happened, the girls wrote original music or covered songs on their instruments. It was Buttercup's turn to choose this time. She decided on a band she'd discovered relatively recently: a short-lived project that existed before the professor created them in the lab. The band's name was "Promise no Tomorrow". The music had a similar sound to death metal, but carried elements of progressive metalcore within its context.
"AS I SCREAM AT YOU AND SOCIETY, I HEAR ANOTHER LEVEL! IS IT REAL!? END MY LIFE! I HEAR MY SCREAMS! AS I WAKE EMOTION, I HEAR NO MORE!"
Upon further examination of the lyrics, Blossom realized they told a story about a disenchanted individual with a death wish. It was a pretty common theme among teens and young adults, especially these days. Everyone now seemed depressed and miserable, and much of that misery was perfectly justified. Most people were living paycheck-to-paycheck. Many were struggling with debilitating physical and mental illnesses that made everyday life a living hell. Remembering this offered perspective. She realized negative thoughts and emotions impacted everyone at some point. Despite what Buttercup's confrontation before school suggested, they cared about the people around them. They always had. It was the first lesson the professor ever taught them.
"Maybe we should start doing more volunteer work." she suggested after the song was over.
"I was thinkin' the same thing," Buttercup agreed, "course Bubbles is in by default."
"Then it's settled. We'll start tomorrow after a night's rest."
"I call dibs on the animal shelter." Bubbles declared.
"You got it, sweet cheeks." Buttercup teased.
Blossom rolled her eyes.
"You know I hate that phrase."
Buttercup smiled knowing she was doing her best to cheer up her siblings.
