Failing Light

Disclaimer:
Arwen belongs J.R.R. Tolkien. So does Aragorn, Lothlorien, Gondor, and any other LotR-related things. Yes, I know the accents are not there.

Summary:
A short fic about Arwen after Aragorn has died.

-----------

Starlight.

I seemed like a new concept to her.

She stared up at the sky, searching for the bright light that she had known. But Arwen Undomiel, once Queen of Gondor, found only a dimmer light.

But it was there. It had always been there, and would always be, until the world ended. No matter how much it faded.

But Arwen was fading as well. Aragorn was dead, and she could not follow him. How she wished she could!

Instead she was left with this bitter, cold feeling inside of her. It was unbearable.

A single tear fell from clear gray eyes, to land on withered leaves below her feet. Lothlorien-the name echoed as a whisper in her mind. Lothlorien.

How long ago was it? When was the last time the birds had sung among these trees? When was the last time Galadriel had wandered these paths that once led to living gardens, and now led to death?

Much too long.

Cerin Amroth-just as she remembered. Arwen slowly climbed the hill, winding among the dead trees. She reached the top, feeling as if all the weight of the world was on her, and her alone.

Arwen lay down, on top of the hill where she had once been in Aragorn's arms. With a sigh, the Evenstar closed her eyes, for the last time.
