It was dark and considering it would take a while to get back, Spongebob decided to stay at Danny's place for the night.
Of course, Danny had to check in with his parents first—they were out ghost hunting and he had to call them—before he showed Spongebob around the house, that way he knew where everything was. Spongebob was a little upset that he couldn't properly meet Danny's parents, but he got over it quickly thinking that he could meet them later that night whenever they came back. Before they headed to Danny's room, the two grabbed some snacks in case they got hungry and it wasn't time for dinner yet.
Danny opened the door to his room. Immediately Spongebob gasped and looked all over the room. It was amusing to see him get excited over something like seeing another person's room, regardless if Danny was expecting it or not. A warm smile showed up on Danny's face like spreading butter on toast. The sea sponge was practically bouncing at every new thing he noticed. Danny placed the snacks onto the bed as he sat down. He watched the sponge and he ended up looking at what DVDs he had.
He chuckled. "What, in a mood for movies?"
Spongebob gasped in delight and he was bouncing so much that he was vibrating on the spot. Danny took that as the answer to his question.
"Pick whatever you want."
Spongebob quickly looked through everything and did just that. He put the movie in and sat down next to Danny, grabbing his arm and putting it around him. He held onto him and leaned his head against his body with a huge childlike smile on his face. Danny noticed he had to physically stop himself from swinging his legs back and forth. Personally he didn't mind if he did that, but he understood the reason. Danny pulled Spongebob close to him as much as possible.
An hour into the movie, they already went through a good amount of the snacks they brought up and Danny wasn't paying too much attention to the movie. He didn't remember it being this boring and he had no idea why he liked it. If Spongebob liked it, he might give it to him before he left to go back home in the morning. Thinking about it, he realized how Spongebob hadn't said or done anything within the past dozen minutes. Danny looked over to him and noticed he was asleep, peacefully away in dreamland while having his arms around him.
At first he thought the movie was that boring, but he remembered how the day before Spongebob had to wake up early and work all day and night before he hung out with him. It was best if he let him be and let him sleep. His phone rang and he took it out. Reading the messages, it seemed like his parents needed help stopping a certain ghost. He lowered the phone and looked at Spongebob. He didn't want to leave him alone like that, but he knew he had to help his parents.
Danny looked around and grabbed the closest softest things he could and put them in his place so Spongebob didn't fall over. He opened the window to climb out of it. Before he could do anything else, he heard the door open and immediately looking that way, he saw Jazz. Danny put his finger up to his lips then pointed towards Spongebob sleeping. She nodded in acknowledgement. He texted her to make sure he didn't wake up and if anything happened to call them immediately.
After that, he went ghost and flew out the window.
He quietly yawned before he opened his eyes.
It took Spongebob a moment to realize a different movie was on rather than the one he previously put in. He wanted to smack himself in the head when he noticed that he fell asleep during the movie. The volume wasn't the same either, it was low enough for someone to hear but it wasn't loud enough to wake anyone up. Spongebob looked up at Danny, who sat there as he drank. After a few seconds he noticed Spongebob was awake and looked at him with a smile.
"Oh, hey Spongebob." He gently started. "You kinda fell asleep during the first movie."
"How- How long was I out?"
It took him a moment. "I think about a couple of hours or so."
"I'm sorry," he scratched the back of his head, "I- I didn't mean to fall asleep. Wait, what time is it? Did you eat? Oh no, I should've did better to stay awake, I-"
"Hey, hey, it's okay Spongebob. I don't mind." He reassured him. "Besides, you worked hard, you deserve the rest."
He wanted to protest, but he felt too tired to do so. Not only that, but he wasn't even completely awake yet, he wouldn't make much sense. Danny gave him a kiss on the forehead.
"You can go back to sleep if you're still tired. I'll still be here."
It seemed like Spongebob didn't have to feel as guilty, but he still did. He wanted to spend the rest of the day with him while he was awake. Though he supposed if he was still gonna be next to him, it wasn't too bad. He held onto him and Danny placed his arm on Spongebob's side.
The sea sponge watched the movie until he fell back asleep.
