This is a crossover between the League of Legends universe with the Overlord Anime universe. I also used the Esper abilities and how they work from the Magical Index Universe since I just think they're pretty neat. All you need to know from that is to imagine magic but instead of chanting or using runes and the like you just materialize concepts from physics and other sciences. So part of your ability could be to use Newton's laws to control the movement of an object.
YGGDRASIL was truly an iconic game, so memorable that it redefined the DMMO-RPG genre. In fact, at its peak, YGGDRASIL was synonymous with the DMMO-RPG genre. It earned its place on the video game Hall of Fame where games like Tetris to the first Doom belong. The game accomplished what many games tried to do before but failed. It accomplished the ultimate goal of video games. To completely immerse someone in the game, to provide escapism in this dying world. There were still restrictions, players couldn't completely move and do every action they might have wished to do, however, no one seemed to mind that little nitpick when they truly realize the scope and beauty of the game.
YGGDRASIL has been out for 12 years now and it's finally shutting down. It lasted truly a long time, a testament to how loved it was. However, no king rules forever and YGGDRASIL deserves its rest.
I have been luckier than most when I played the game, considering I got access to my parents' items and characters for when they used to play the game. Sadly the real world started to catch up with them and they could no longer play. So they decided to just give everything to me. With everything, I could ever want I mostly just spent my time exploring or doing quests. Another thing YGGDRASIL did right, every class had something that some had fun doing, from swordsmen to smiths, there was always something for everyone.
So on the last day before the shutdown, I decided to take one last look at the game. The game that people collectively spent billions of their hours and money. The game that allowed people to escape to a world of their choosing and briefly escape their lives, the game that told the story people wanted to tell…and the game that is going to be put to rest along with everything everyone ever did inside of it.
"I guess this is it", I say to myself leering out towards the meadows.
"It was pretty fun while it lasted, the memories I made here are going to last a lifetime"
It was now 11:58
"Two minutes left"
"Still can't believe it"
"The anticipation is killing me"
"Well might as well as relax here for whatever time is left"
My consciousness starts to fade as I close my eyes and wait for the timer to finally end.
Suddenly my eyes open, as bright lights and loud noise envelop me.
'Where the hell am I, why is everything so bright and loud. Even my skin feels weird what's going on'
'Is this some glitch that happens when the servers shut down, that those shitty devs didn't notice ?'
'If that's the case I must have fallen asleep, though that doesn't explain why my skin feels weird'
As my vision started to clear I got more questions than answers. There were multiple people in armor surrounding me…and I was a baby.
"-gratulations. It's a boy my Lady", One of the doctors or…apothecaries? Said.
Looks like I at least understand the language, would suck if I didn't know what they were saying…
Wait, what did he just say?
Before I can think of doing anything else my vision begins to focus and I start to sense everything else around me. From feeling different levels of heat and friction to electromagnetic fields and light. I could sense everything and understand everything around me…
It's almost like I'm in the body of my old YGGDRASIL character. Which was weird considering the game didn't allow you to actually see what I can now see. Only the in-game fluff lore about the class talked anything about it. Did I somehow become my old character when I came to this world?
My brain started to hurt while trying to find out what to do with all of my new senses. Luckily, I found a way to mentally turn off whatever that was before the pain got too intolerable.
'That's better I think to myself.'
As my mind starts to recover I finally realize the situation that I'm in.
Before the impending mental breakdown that would eventually occur I had to wonder, was this a reincarnation or an Issekai… or have I watched too much anime? Probably the latter, but that doesn't matter considering for all I know, I'm now in Game of Thrones.
I start to laugh…giggle at my circumstance before blacking out.
As I awoke I was wrapped up in some blue cloth while a woman was cradling me, while looking to her side.
Unlike previously I can actually see her, she has bright yellow hair with blue eyes. She was decorated in jewelry and was wearing a dress of some sort.
Considering how she's dressed she must be my new mother.
"Looks like little Athas finally woke up", someone says to her side.
When I turned to see who said it was, I was shocked.
The guy was gigantic. He was covered in Silver armor with a light blue cloak that had tracings of white around it. As I tried to look up and see his face I was met with a man with aging hair black hair and blue eyes.
"Hello there little one, I'm your father. Welcome to the Spiritmight family"
"This is a momentous day for all of Demacia"
Demacia…So that's the name of this place.
Considering the armor my parents have, and with the architecture being mostly made out of either stone or wood, I could assume this world is in the medieval era. At least from what I know so far and if Game of Thrones taught me anything is that that's not always a good thing. I need to find as much info about this world as possible.
Also Spriritmight…that's my last name really. Kinda wanted a cooler last name not going to lie.
It doesn't matter, from what I know so far I've been born as a person in status to a hopefully loving family with seemingly all of my stats and more from my favorite game. I couldn't really complain.
Weeks went by as I started to finally settle down on this world. My parents thought it was weird why I was always smiling and never cried but how could I not be. I can breathe the air unaided, I could eat and drink how much I want, and due to my lordly status, I probably won't ever do any hard work.
I got more comfortable turning on my senses to the point it wasn't as blinding as it was before. From there I took a quick skim through my stats and from what I could tell everything was fine. Well, I couldn't actually see my stats, I just kinda… felt them, if that makes sense.
I expected this day here to be the same as the others, however, I was somewhat off the mark on this one.
Apparently, both of my parents are needed in Demacia's capital and won't be able to take care of me there.
As such I'm going to be fostered at some Noble's family for a few years.
Speaking of being sent away, it seems my parents came to say goodbye.
"Our time to rest is over and as such we must continue on with our duty to serve Demacia", my father starts.
"The Crowngaurd family has offered to foster you at High Silvermere", my father adds on.
"They have two other children there, so you shouldn't be alone", my mother continues.
"As such, this is goodbye for now", my mother finishes.
I'm going to take a wild guess and assume that the Crowngaurd family guards the King/Crown, but why then is their land so far away from the capital?
Guess I'll figure out soon enough.
A few minutes pass and I'm carried to some type of carriage.
And just like that, I was sent to a carriage somewhere.
To make a long story slightly less long, that is how I became the ward of the Crownheart family.
After a long journey of riding a small carriage, I finally arrived. To say I was surprised would be an understatement, the center of the city was on a small mountain, in the middle of a huge river next to an enormous waterfall. The side of the mountain that was at the edge of the waterfall had a carved Demacian Knight Standing with a sword planted at their feet.
Two bridged connected the small mountain with the land around it and on the other side of the mountain contained a thriving shipyard. It really looked like some fantasy castle someone would create in YGGDRASIL. I would pity anyone trying to invade this fortress.
As the carriage starts to ride up the mountain to the estate we weren't met with any questions or anything from the guards. I guess they were told when we would arrive and what to expect.
The carriage came to a halt and I was carried off to meet with three individuals, a woman wearing armor along with a boy and a small girl, by the door of what could only be described as a mansion or small castle.
The woman marches towards me and starts to speak.
"Greeting Lord Spiritmight, I'm Tianna Crowngaurd and I welcome you to The High Silvermere. Please enjoy your stay.",
She does realize that I'm only a few weeks old right? I guess it's the proper etiquette to say that when a lord comes or something.
My thoughts were interrupted when the next two people approached.
"Greetings I'm G-", said the boy before being interrupted by the younger girl.
"Hi there I'm Luxanna but you can call me Lux and I'm Garen's Sister and I'm 3 years old!", the girl excitedly said
Garen can't help but smile at her sister, though Lady Tianna couldn't help but sneer at her.
Damm, did she wake up at the wrong side of the bed or something?
Something tells me isn't going to be boring.
5 years later:
In the last 5 years, I've learned a lot about Demacia and the world in general.
Saying Demacia is anti-magic is saying it lightly. Though they're not outright killing everyone that's a mage, their treatment of them isn't very humane.
Though all of this can be attributed to the reason why Demacia was founded in the first place. To escape magic in general.
All caused by the Rune Wars. A war in which people with these powerful magical items basically nuked each other.
Considering how powerful those items were I wouldn't be surprised if they were just World Items brought into this world from other YGGDRASIL players.
Either way, I started to conceal all traces of anything coming from my body and/area just to be safe.
I've been lucky so far that the mageseekers are mostly in the capital and haven't caught wind of me. If they did, that would cause a swift end to my peaceful life.
What I've discovered next is a bit concerning. A few nights ago, while everyone was asleep, I decided to try to go to the nearby mountains across from the bridge to try to do some summonings. To make sure some of my abilities worked, but also to explore the world to see if there were any other players or dangerous threats.
What I discovered was that the entire world is pretty much fucked.
The Icy Freljord has Cthulhu monsters in ice.
Noxus has slavery, demon(s), and a King that is being manipulated by a demon.
Shurima and Ixtal are right next to a giant portal, which leads to Cthulhu monsters
Bilgewater has hundreds of tales of what I'm going to assume is another Cthulhu monster deep in their waters.
Targon has a dragon spirit that looks like the universe made manifest seemingly trapped, as well as a bunch of celestial things and overpowered humans.
The shadow isles have…well it's best to just keep it alone.
In case of emergency, I had teleportation scrolls assigned to each of the regions in case I need to go there and my abilities don't work. Never know when that'll be useful. I've hidden them as part of the pages in some of my books and added presence concealment to them.
Disregarding Demacia, the nations that don't have world-ending monsters; is Ionia, which is currently being attacked by Noxus and Piltover, which has so much unrest I wouldn't be surprised if the protests there start getting more violent.
So yeah, I have no idea how the world is going to survive this. In the meantime, I'm just going to relax and enjoy life while hoping someone else takes care of it.
Speaking of relaxing, how do these people even relax if they're constantly wearing their armor!
Sure the fabric is soft and all, but do they have to wear it everywhere.
I wouldn't be surprised if they slept with it.
On a lighter note, my family turns out to be the most influential family of Demacia, probably because the King married my aunt. Which makes the King my uncle and the Prince my cousin. Not bad at all. I'm probably going to eventually meet them along with my parents, considering I'm expected to follow the path of all the Great Noble families and join the Demacian military.
Due to my progress in my studies, the people here declared I was a genius. Which wasn't really fair considering my mind is basically a quantum computer on drugs and I had previous schooling, but I'll take their praise either way.
Suffice to say, but I've been really enjoying myself here. Although I'm 7 years younger than Garen and 3 years younger than Lux, I've come to see both of them as my siblings.
Though all good things have to end. Today was the last day Garen stays with us before he goes to the military.
As such I wanted to make something for him to make sure he doesn't die.
As such began my masterful foolproof plan. First I went to the harbor to find a gift. Since a trader's ship was embarked at the shipyard I went there to see their wares.
I decided to buy a small stone statue of The Winged Protector of Demacia and began the second stage of my plan.
I decided to enchant the statue to give the holder of this item luck and to heal him a bit if he starts bleeding. That way if worse comes to worst Garen won't bleed to death. I was thinking of adding resurrection to it, but due to its power it'll make it a lot easier for mageseekers to detect.
Even if the mageseekers find it I could just say I bought it from someone from the Traders ship. Not that they could ask them anyway considering the ship is leaving at the moment. Besides, surely the mageseekers wouldn't destroy a magical item that could heal people.
The plan is fools proof!
I bring the now enchanted statue with me to the Crowngaurd home to properly wrap it, to then present it to Garen. Nothing can go wrong.
To my horror, in less than an hour, dozens of mageseekers surround the home looking for any signs of magic.
"What is the meaning of this soldier?!", I hear Lady Tianna yell at the door
"We detected magic coming from this building, may we enter", a voice answers back
"You have 30 minutes, if you can't find anything you'll leave", says Lady Tianna as she shows them in.
"Understood Crownsgaurd", understood Captain.
...It didn't take long for them to find the statue
"Who does this belong to?", one of the mageseekers asks
No point hiding it.
"That would be mine", I say
"Did you know this was magic", another mageseeker questions.
"No sir, I just bought it from the docks"
"Is that so, I'm going to have to ask you to come with us to answer a few more questions"
"Is that okay"
It wasn't a question.
"Sure"
This isn't good. Time for Backup plan: Bullshit my way out of this
Suddenly a golden aura started to pour out of the statue.
Then the mageseekers all start freaking out.
"By The Righteous"
"Can this really be?"
"Can you sense its Holy Power"
"It has to be"
"What's going on?", one of the guards asks
"Soldier, don't you know what we found?", says the mageseeker answering a question with another question.
"This must be a divine item from The Winged Protector herself from the days of the Rune War."
That's not what I was going for, but I'll take it.
"We have to take this to the capital"
What I presume to be the leader of the mageseekers group starts to talk to me.
"Thank you, young Lord. This discovery will be at the centerpiece of our Headquarters",
"Wait for a second", I ask
"Hmmm", the leader says not even looking at me.
"Who says you can just take it?"
"This is a magical item"
"But it's from The Protector herself... wait are you saying the magic from The Protector is evil?"
"…"
"…"
"What do you want for it?"
I mean I don't really want anything, anything they could give me at least.
"That's not for me to decide, it's Garen's"
I got it for him, its only fair he could decide
"Thank you Athas, but that is unnecessary. Seeing the dedication of the mageseekers to their work is reward enough".
...I don't know what I expected.
"Very well then, by your leave", says the mageseekers.
'I feel like I'm forgetting something.'
"Hey Larry look what I found"
Another mageseeker comes carrying a teleportation scroll that I left hidden in one of my books. How did he even find it? How did the guy find it with presence concealment? It's pretty much impossible to find it unless the guy is an idiot and just bumped into it and noticed it fall in the ground or something...
"Apparently this is magical too," he says flaying it around the supposedly magical item
"Let's see what's inside"
The idiot proceeds to open the scroll with its side facing me
"You have to go to be kidding m-"
Before I could finish saying anything I'm teleported away
Not like I could do anything against the teleportation considering the only things I could do, would alert the mageseekers…
I open my eyes, only be surrounded by hot flames. There's screaming everywhere and I'm sure I hear gun-shots.
'Whats happening', is the only thing I could think to myself before a Piltovian cop/soldier walks towards me with his weapon drawn. Is there a war? What's going on?
The man proceeds to lower his gun down at me.
'He wouldn't dare'
And then the man fired.
The bullet hit me, I felt some sort of recoil when it hit. I touched the spot where I got shot and like I expected the bullet didn't go through. Besides the recoil, I didn't feel anything.
'Did this guy literally just tried to shoot an unarmed kid. To say I was surprised would be an understatement.'
By the way, the man was staring at me he couldn't believe what he saw either. I wonder what he was thinking at this time? Was the bullet a dud? Even if it was, a normal person would still be injured by it in some capacity.
We both just stood there, staring at each other, neither of us moved a muscle.
His shock was short-lived however as the man decided to reload his weapon to fire at me once again.
'He's actually going to try again'
It wouldn't matter how many bullets he would throw at me, for such things couldn't harm me.
Before he could fire again, a large man smacked him in the face with some type of… iron gauntlets?
Even though the cop was on the ground it didn't stop his assailer from showing any form of mercy. He proceeded to punch the fallen man's face so hard I'm pretty sure I heard him cave in the guy's skull.
'Granted I probably wasn't going to let the guy live either, since he had no problem just shooting kids minding their business.'
The man starts to walk in my direction, he took a few glances at me before looking behind me. I mimic his behavior and find two other kids. The larger one had pink hair while the shorter one had blueish hair. He stood in the middle of us before a silent agreement was made to get out of here. He picked up the smaller girl and we proceeded to follow him.
None of us said a word as we followed the man.
As we continued to walk and the smoke cleared up I got a better view of my surroundings. We were on a bridge that had 2 cities on either of its sides. The architecture of both of the cities was vastly different the more I looked at it. The designs were like night and day. As I went down the elevator to this under-city, I could barely hold in my laughter.
I finally escaped the nightmare world that I was in my previous life just to hop back in another one. This had to be a cruel joke.
As we exit the elevator I finally see the city's depravity.
People litter the streets many of them either starving to death or drugged to the point of not even knowing what's happening around them. Even the air was so toxic to the point that many had to wear masks to even just be able to breathe here.
...Reminds me of my old Home
We continue to follow the man and he leads us to what appears is a bar. He opens the door for us and we enter. As we do so he gestures for us to sit at 2 different tables and we do just that. He enters a backroom and we wait.
A few minutes pass by and he brings in some food.
I can smell it right away, it's some type of grilled fish.
He sets the plates down at the two different tables and I along with the other two kids begin to eat.
I take a bite off of it. It's warm and tastes pretty good. Not at all what I was expecting from a place like this.
He gestures for me to wait and joins the table with the girls there. From what I could tell he was offering them something, my thoughts were cut short as he proceeded to come to me.
"So what's your name", says the man
I can't exactly tell him I'm a high-ranking noble.
"…" He is met with silence
He seems to be allowing me to take my time.
I have to think of something fast.
Think, if you were born in Piltover what would your name be?
"…Bill Cover" I finally say
That has got to be the dumbest name I could have come up with.
Well, it's too late to go back now.
"That's a made up name, what's your real name", The guy presses on
Just gotta march on.
"It's Bill Cover", I reaffirm
Damm I really suck at names, though to be fair this was a heat of a moment thing.
"Huh kinda Sounds a lot like Piltover", he continues
"Maybe that's why they named me Bill
"Is that so?"
"Yep"
"…"
"So where are your parents?", he continues
"I don't know", I reply.
I wasn't outright lying I didn't know exactly where they were, just that they were somewhere in Demacia's capital.
"Do you have anywhere to go, any family or friends?", man continues
Considering I couldn't exactly go back to Demacia because they'll have discovered all of the magical items in my possession by now and kick me out of the country in the best-case scenario. The answer was obvious.
"Not really", I answer back
"Do you need a place to stay?"
I nod at him
"Would you like to stay with me?"
"I don't even know your name", I speak up
"You can call me Vander", he answers back
"So what do you say?", he questions further
"Sure...I guess",
It's not like he can do anything to me. Even if he turns out to be a bad guy I can just kick the shit out of him. It's not like anyone barring cosmic/eldritch entities can even harm me.
That's pretty much my intro chapter. This was mostly made as a backstory to the main character. Chapters after this are going to have more dialogue and fewer timeskips.
First story so any advice is greatly appreciated.
Piltover's undercity and the modern Humanity in the Overlord Universe had many parallels that I thought would be fun to explore. I didn't want to add too much dialogue, so the dialogue between Garen and Lux was cut since the intro would start getting too long. That might be why that section of the story feels a little rushed.
How the main character first experienced the new world is also very similar to how Ainz experienced it.
I also decided to add the trivia at the start of the story about YGGDRASIL and what humanity has become in that world, as both as a glimpse towards the world of Overlord, but also how it might impact the main character later on.
The overlaps between what will eventually become Zuan and the main character's older world are so similar that it might as well be a cruel joke. This time, however, he actually has the power to change it, or at least to try to change it.
If there are grammar mistakes that I didn't notice blame Grammarly.
