Did You Ever…

Did you ever wish you could take back something you've said?
Did you ever do something you wish you have never done?

Heero sat at the bar drinking a glass of beer. This was his fourth glass and he still couldn't get the fight he had with Duo out of his mind. Sure they had had their disagreements before, but none of them had compared to this argument.

Duo had come home from his job not even three hours ago and told Heero he had good news. What turned out to be good news for Duo, turned into bad news for Heero. Duo had been so excited about being accepted to a college. Heero could see the joy in his lovers' eyes, but couldn't quite reveal excitement for the braided teen. It turns out Heero didn't like the idea of his love leaving their home and moving into some dormitory with other guys. There had been some harsh, hateful words between the two. Finally Heero couldn't take it any more and started beating Duo.

Did you ever wish for just one second you could freeze time?
Did you ever once consider other people's feeling before yours?

Heero threw some money down on the counter and started walking back to the house. It had started to pour down rain and Heero cursed under his breath. 'Could this night get any better?' He took the house key out and unlocked the door. Walking in he noticed there wasn't a sound coming from his love. Not even the television was on. Looking around on the first floor, Heero started up the stairs when he didn't succeed in locating Duo.

Did you ever wish you could turn back time?
Did you ever put yourself in someone else's shoes?

Heero stopped in front of the bedroom door that he shared with Duo. On the floor was an envelope with his name written across the front. Picking it up, Heero opened it and read what was written.

Heero,

Why? One of my dreams in life was to make someone out of my life. Finally I got the change to attend college and accomplish something no one in my family has done. I thought you would be excited and proud of me. I guess I was wrong. Please forgive me. I will always love you,

Duo.

Heero opened the door and fell to his knees. There was the love of his life lying on the floor surrounded by a pool of blood. Heero crawled over to where the braided teen laid and turned Duo over so that he could see his face. He began to weep as he noticed the black and blue bruises and the cuts that he had caused earlier. 'Don't leave me! I'm so sorry, please don't leave!' But it was too late. Duo had taken his last breath just moments before Heero had gotten there. He picked up the gun that Duo had used and put it against his head. He couldn't live on without his love. Pulling the trigger he spoke his last words. 'I love you Duo.'

Did you ever think if the life we're living is actually real?
Did you ever take time to consider what was a dream?

Heero jerked awake. Looking around, he saw he was in some sort of a yard. He heard someone call his name and turned in the direction the voice came from. A smile widened across his face when he saw the person who had called for him was Duo. They embraced each other and Heero gave his love a loving kiss on the lips.

"I thought I lost you."
"Why's that, Heero?"
"I had a dream we had a fight and you killed yourself. I couldn't go on without you so I did the same."
"It was only a dream, love. Everything's fine. Come now, let's get something to eat."

The two of them walked off hand in hand towards town. Neither one of them turned back to see the other three pilots mourning over two tombstones that had been attached to each other to form one solid stone. In scripted on the stone was: In loving memory of two best friends and sole mates. May what you did in life be told to future generations.

A/N: So what did you think? Please let me know and be totally honest!
