Tears of the Soul
Rated:PG-13 for language
Summary: Kurama and Hiei are caring for and teaching a young kitsune. What adventures will arise when she is sent to Ningenkai to avenge her parents' death?
AN: This has been floating around on my parent's PC since 2003, and I finally remembered to put it up today, when I got a new review for 'Love is What Makes Us Who We Are'. And I promise, there is a second chapter to that story, and it will get typed and posted... maybe before the end of the summer XD
She ran. She knew that if he caught her, it would be the end. If he caught her, she would have to tell him… that she was dying. Running from her best friend, … would wonders never cease? And she knew, as she began slowing down from the running, from the fatigue she was beginning to feel, and as he began to catch up, that it was the end. She started looking around for a place to hide, but there was no adequate cover, and apparently, her guardian wasn't going to make it rain to cover her tracks.
As he finally came within yelling distance, she stopped and transformed. She went from a grey-eyed, grey-coated youko kitsune to a teenage girl with waist-length bluish-black hair, and chilling grey eyes. She was short, only about 5'3, and looked no more than 13 or 14, even though she was was actually 17. The youko kitsune that had been chasing her slowed down when she stopped, expecting a fight, and loped forward when she transformed.
By the time he got close to her, she had found herself a tree to lie under, and had closed her eyes, like she was going to sleep. He transformed when he stopped, going from a red-eyed, silver-coated kitsune to a tall, silvered-haired man. He had golden eyes, and was over 7' tall. AN- Can u guess? His hair was about midback length, and he positively towered over her. It didn't help that she was lying down, and she could feel his anger, although it didn't intimidate her—tall, glaring people rarely did.
After glaring down at her for a few minutes, in which she refused to open her eyes and look up at him, he sat down next to her. She finally reacted, rolling away from him, still not looking at him or saying anything to him. He continued to stare at her, and finally sighed.
"Serenity, what is wrong with you? I chased you through almost the entire forest! Hiei called for you, and you ignored him!"
She winced. When Hiei called, she was supposed to answer, and it didn't matter if you had been summonedby Enma-Daioh himself.
"Hiei wants toknow if death is on your mind today, for being so damned rude and not even bothering to apologize for the interruption to his training," Kurama continued, ignoring the fact that Serenity had turned back towards him, and now had a look of horror on her face. Her initial reaction had been to stick her tongue out at Kurama, and make a wisecrack about Hiei being slow and old these days. She hadn't realized he had been training when she passed him, and wondered if she begged, if he would listen before he lit into her.
As she began to get up to go back to Hiei, his voice sounded from above her. "I believe that our kokitsune has something to tell us." He dropped down from his perch where he had been playing with his sword, coincidentally landing on her other side. She was now blocked in by their bodies, and knew she couldn't escape their grasp if she tried to run.
