A day of family time is interrupted when a messenger arrives in Aldburg with new of orcs crossing the land, and the consequences of Éomund's decision to ride after them. The first chapter is PG but chapter two earns the rating. This story is not abandoned, I'm just struggling with the angst in the next chapter.

What saved the great forces of the alliance on middle Earth from Sauron's overwhelming power? A brave hobbit, a Fellowship? Do you really think Sauron would have left the entrance to Orodruin, the only possible way to destroy his One Ring, unguarded? Not a single soldier at the entrance? No one on the black slopes watching? Why was Sauron really defeated?

Growing up is hard, no doubt. Legolas, coming of age, knows this better than anyone. With a celebration gone wrong, and humiliation to last a lifetime, Legolas ponders his duties as prince, and if he'll ever make friends beyond the frogs in the Mirkwood ponds. (A short story, depicting Legolas in his youth, struggling to fit in on his birthday, or, begetday, in the Elves' case).

Legolas is mildly injured during the battle at Pelennor fields, but as the next day progresses things are not what they seem. Exhaustion and relief get the better of him, and the very aspects of his elvishness that protected him from poison at the outset may very well be those things that threaten his life, in the end. An h/c also featuring Aragorn, Gimli, Eomer, Ioreth, & Gandalf.
