Dreamer's Adventure
Chapter 1: sweet little Dreamer
Here we are with a new story. This will be my first fanfic on "Animals Of Farthing Wood" and I can't wait to know your opinion.
Before to start I would like warn you that this fanfic follow the TV series so probably you will see something differences about the books and I'm sorry about that.
Anyway I hope you enjoy this first chapter and please leave a review.
In the peaceful english countryside was one of the largest and most famous natural reserves of the place: The White Deer Park. It was a place where the animals of the forest could live in peace, away from hunters and other dangers ... even though, not really all creatures of Farthing territory are spending a so quiet period because of the continued persecution of blue foxes on who felt invaded by the latter.
That night there spring is almost ending to make way for summer, as the moon and stars shone in the night sky over the hills.
A little young vixen with a light red coat and honey-colored eyes was trotting happily through the trees of the Farthing territory, this time she had gone further than usual, and found herself in a part of the wood still unexplored by her. She had never been in that place before, also because her parents never allowed her to leave the den, especially alone and in the middle of the night, so for her it was a new place to explore. Immediately she began to look around to examine every single tree, flower and insect she saw in that new place she had just discovered. The little one stopped to admire the wonderful light show that the fireflies were doing at that moment making that place even more enchanting, almost magical ... at least until she heard her parents calling her by name.
Fox: "Dreamer!"
Vixen: "where are you a Dreamer?!"
The young vixen ran to her lair where her parents, Fox and Vixen, as well as the leaders of the Farthing territory, were waiting for her. by the way they called her they seemed to be very worried.
As soon as the little girl emerged into the bushes she met her father's grim gaze, and he was not at so happy with how the Dreamer had walked away from the den without even asking permission.
Fox: "Dreamer, but why do you always go away from the den?! I have already told you more than a thousand times that you must never go around alone especially at night!"
Fox said scolding his daughter, the little Dreamer whimpered sadly; she was truly mortified for walking away again without even realizing it. She didn't want to disobey her parents, but she was too curious and couldn't resist the novelty and beauty of the world around her.
Dreamer: "I-I'm sorry dad. I didn't want to disobey you again"
The little vixen answered with a sad and sorry look, her ears were lowered back and her muzzle down. Fox didn't want to be a strict father, but he loved his four children wholeheartedly, and he didn't want to lose any of them. Fox took a deep breath trying to stay calm and be as understandable as possible with his baby.
Fox: "I talk to you in this way because I love you and you are very important to me, like all your siblings. I don't want to lose any of you"
Dreamer: "I know dad. But I can't resist, I always have this desire to explore "
Fox: "I understand, Dreamer. But you must know that it is not safe for a cub of your age to go around the woods alone, however beautiful and exciting the world may be, remember that there will always be dangers"
Meanwhile, Dreamer's mother, Vixen, was watching and listening to what her mate was saying to their little girl and was so happy to see that Fox was so understandable to Dreamer.
She too often worried about Dreamer and her other kits as well, but nevertheless she was happy to have such a curious daughter and with so much desire to see the world; which reminded her that before becoming Fox's mate she too had a lot of fun exploring the woods where she lived.
Fox gently licked Dreamer's cheek to make her understand that even if she makes mistakes he will never stop loving her. The little girl smiled at him as her ears straightened and her tail wagged, somehow her sweetness made Fox forget everything.
Fox: "The day will come when you can explore the world on your own, but until then stay at least close to the lair and under the protection of the oath. And if you want to go further ask us, we will be happy to take a walk all together"
Dreamer: "okay dad. I will do my best"
Shortly thereafter the little fox yawned as her eyelids began to get heavy.
Vixen: "I'd say you've explored enough for today, honey. It's time to sleep"
Dreamer: "okay ... goodnight mom, goodnight dad!"
So Dreamer entered the lair. Meanwhile, Volpe and Volpina had some time to talk about their baby.
Vixen: "you were very understanding on her, Fox"
Fox: "that Dreamer will give me a heart attack"
Vixen: "she's just a baby. Maybe when she grow up she'll be more careful"
Fox: "I just hope you're right"
Vixen kissed her companion and gently rubbed her cheek on Fox's neck. His companion gave a small smile, but he was still worried about Dreamer. Vixen then decided to stay in the den while Fox went hunting.
Vixen: "What do you think if I stay with the babies while you go hunting? So to make you feel more calm"
Fox: "okay, my love"
Meanwhile Dreamer went into her lair to rest for a while with her sister Delight and her two brothers, Bold and Sociable, all three were already sleeping very close together. Dreamer lay down in a corner to reflect on what her father had just told him.
Suddenly her thoughts were interrupted by her mother Vixen who entered the den to stay with her young for the night while Fox went hunting.
Vixen lay down next to her and smiled at the little Dreamer finally licked his nose, she giggled as she let herself be pampered by her loving mother.
Vixen: "You know what, Dreamer? When I was little like you I was so curious to see the world"
Dreamer: "really?"
Vixen: "sure, my little one"
Vixen told her of all the times she went to explore alone the forest where she lived before meeting Fox, but didn't have time to finish that Dreamer fell asleep next to her. Volpina smiled and wished her goodnight before falling asleep too ... not before kissing the other kits too.
Vixen: "goodnight my little ones"
Vixen fell asleep with all four of her cubs snuggled next to her, each with a smile on their face.
The day after…
Dreamer took advantage of the absence of her parents and went out of the den to go to explore the surroundings, suddenly Audace aimed at her and jumped and landed on top of her.
Dreamer was too distracted to notice what was going on around her, and was often the victim of the playful ambushes of her brother, Bold.
After landing it for the umpteenth time, Bold immobilized his sister and bit her ear, obviously being careful not to hurt her too much.
Dreamer: "hey!"
Bold: "hehe! I got you, pheasant"
Dreamer: "Bold, I'm not a pheasant! I'm your sister"
Replied Dreamer quite annoyed at having compared her to a pheasant. Bold laughed as he slid off her back to get her up. Dreamer shook off the dust from her fur.
At the time they were just playing but Bold was very worried about his little sister, not only because she was the youngest of the litter but also because she was always distracted and therefore was an easy target for predators who lived outside the Farthing territory.
Dreamer: "Do you always have to ambush me?!"
Bold: "you should be more alert, instead of always having your head in the clouds Dreamer"
Dreamer: "but Bold... I can't help it! I really try to resist but it's stronger than me"
Bold: "I just want you to stay safe ... why don't you stay with us? We can play with Charmer and Friendly"
Dreamer: "alright…"
Dreamer and Bold went to their other two brothers: the beautiful Charmer and the carefree Friendly. The two were already playing the fight to see which of them was the strongest cub.
Bold: "I said to wait for us!"
Friendly: "she started ... I was waiting for you"
Charmer: "it's not true! You're the one who keeps teasing me"
Bold giggled seeing how funny his two siblings were.
Charmer: "How about joining forces? You and I can beat Friendly together"
Bold: "I'm on it! Come on Dreamer, join"
The little vixen shook her head. She didn't like playing wrestling so much because she was afraid of getting hurt. She enjoyed playing somewhat quieter games such as hide and seek or tag. So she decided to stay and watch.
Dreamer: "thanks Audace, but I don't like playing wrestling...I wouldn't want to get hurt"
Friendly: "you are really a coward!"
Friendly mocked her, but Charmer promptly stood up for her.
Charmer: "hey! Leave her alone, Friendly! ... don't worry Dreamer, later if you want we can play something else"
Dreamer: "sure, thanks Charmer"
Eventually Dreamer stood for a while watching her siblingss play wrestling, smiling and waving her bushy tail.
Shortly thereafter, her attention shifted to a yellow butterfly that fluttered around her; Dreamer had already seen many yellow butterflies, she thought that maybe it was one of those she had already met and it want to become her friend, so she decided to follow it and try to see if it wanted to play with her, not realizing that she had strayed from her siblings and that she was slowly moving out of the safe territory. The other three didn't see her, they were too busy playing with each other to notice that Dreamer had strayed from the den again.
Dreamer: "hey wait, come back here!... I just want to play"
Dreamer was chasing the butterfly, laughing and hopping in an attempt to catch it.
As soon as the cute insect landed on a rock she tried to ambush it, but as soon as she leapt to try to catch it, the butterfly flew up. Dreamer snorted when she lost sight of the butterfly.
Dreamer: "uh...just now that I was starting to have fun"
Then she noticed something in the bushes: it was a long thing with thick fur similar to a fox tail, only the color was blue.
The little vixen followed the strange tail among the bushes, but as soon as she came out on the other side she found nothing. Dreamer then thought of going back, she had not strayed too much as usual, she even heard her siblings laughing while they were playing. But as she was just about to walk, she noticed an eerie shadow behind her. She turned and saw an adult blue-furred fox with a long scar on his face. The unknown blue fox leapt on top of her and bit her right hind leg and then pinned her head to the ground with his paw baring the neck of the victim. Dreamer cried in pain as fear got the better of her and pleaded to her attacker to let her go as tears began to roll down on her cheeks.
Dreamer: "no, please stop...it hurts! Let me go!"
Dreamer wept with pain and fear. The blue fox had enough of her constant whining and feared that someone might hear her. He was about to bite her neck and kill her, but he immediately heard Fox approach to him and call his daughter's name. He would not have had time to kill her, so he had to find another way to finish the work without being discovered, with a violent paw he hit her brutally in the head making her stop squirming and screaming. Believing that the Blue Fox was definitely dead he left with a smirk of satisfaction and when Fox arrived she saw his baby slumped on the ground with no sign of life. Fox felt his heart fill with sadness until it broke, he tried to wake her up by rubbing her with his muzzle but it was all useless
Fox: "oh no ... my little one! Why you?! ... the sweetest and most innocent cub in the whole park"
Fox began to howl crying the sad event, the lament of sadness echoed for almost the entire park.
To be continued…
Yes. This fanfiction have as protagnist Dreamer, a character in my opinion very interesting but unfortunately without the possibility of having more appearances in the series.
