The Knight was walking around it's room as it looked at the console it bought, which arrived this morning. Big tv screen, speakers, the console itself, all these were new to it. It had never played games before, got fascinated by youtube and other things it's fellow classmates were interested at the time. It looked at the gamepad, as it tried to boot up the console, which began blinking in response. However, the screen was still dark, which left the Knight confused.
It looked for a remote and turned the tv on, but all it got was a message that the device wasn't connected, as it pondered what to do, a knock on the door alerted it of the first guest he expected today. Good thing it was Sunday, that way it didn't have to worry about school and such, homework could wait till night. Seeing no other option, the Knight opened the door, Koneko standing in front of it.
"… Good Morning," Koneko greeted.
"… Good Morning, please come inside," The Knight said, while the girl nodded and entered the house, the Knight locking the door behind her. Her eyes turned to the console, before she turned towards the Knight.
"… Did you buy it yesterday?" She asked, while the Knight nodded.
"… Convinced by you, still haven't finished setting it up," It replied.
"… Want me to help out?" She asked, while the Knight nodded.
"… Here," Koneko said as she pressed a few buttons, the console screen now fully visible. "… Games?"
"… Worms, Portal 2, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Cuphead," The Knight counted the ones it bought. "… Your choice?"
"… Portal 2?" She suggested, while the Knight nodded.
"...Okay, but first, snacks," The Knight said and began putting all sorts of candies, sweets, juice and other snacks for them to enjoy during their marathon of gaming.
"… Still have them?" She asked.
"… Don't eat much," The Knight replied and sat on the sofa, the girl sitting next to it, a foot of distance between them. "… Shall we?"
"… Let's," Koneko agreed and the two began playing.
When they began Koneko got it killed shortly after they began, but the Knight returned the favour. She didn't show that many emotions, but after getting killed the girl's eyes narrowed. The same couldn't be said about the Knight, who didn't care about getting killed, it was way too used to dying over and over again to be worried about dying in a video game out of all things.
"… Who is Ophis to you?" Koneko asked, her head turned towards the Knight.
The Knight in return turned towards her and replied, "… Acquaintance."
"… Do you like her?" She asked, while the Knight shrugged.
"… Don't know, don't mind her, keeps me busy, same as you," It replied.
"… What about me then?" Koneko asked.
"… Same, an acquaintance," The Knight replied, but that didn't seem to be enough for the girl.
"… Is there anyone you like, you care about?" She asked, the Knight pausing as it blinked it's eyes.
"… There is," The Knight replied. There was one bug it cared about one, one that it hoped to see again, if possible, Hornet. However, it wasn't worried about her, Hornet was a deadly opponent, something it experienced before.
"… Who is she?" Koneko asked.
"… Rival, opponent, ally… friend," The Knight settled on.
Hornet wasn't void, they weren't related by blood, not anymore, not since it was turned into a vessel. They might have been in the past, but now, they might have been nothing more but strangers that used to share the same parents at some point in time. That didn't mean the Knight didn't care for her, as she was the reason it was able to destroy the Radiance in the first place.
"… Do you care about her?" She asked, while the Knight nodded. "… What about Ophis? And… me?"
"… Not sure," The Knight replied, while the girl titled her head to the side. "… Not the same type of bond, not the same experience."
"I see…," Koneko settled on, she supposed it was natural, judging by the words used to describe the girl she meant a lot to the Knight, her grip on the controller tightening. "… What is her name?"
"… Hornet," The Knight replied, the girl turning towards it. "… Is there anyone you care about?"
"… I do, Rias, Kiba, Akeno…," Koneko began. "… Why do you ask?"
"… Curious," The Knight replied. "… What about me?"
That actually surprised Koneko, making her eyes spread wide open. "… Friend."
"… Friend?" The Knight asked, while the girl nodded, her eyes averted to the side.
"… Am I… a friend?" Koneko asked, while the Knight looked at her.
Was Koneko a friend? Was Ophis a friend? It wasn't sure. It did spend a lot of time with them, they got along, spent a lot of time together, something humans considered friendship. Did it care about them? Hard to say, definitely didn't want to hurt them, they didn't try to kill it and actually talked to it, which meant a lot to the Knight. Not many bugs like those in Hallownest.
"… Perhaps…," The Knight began. "… Friend… What is a friend to you?"
"… Someone you care about, that you want to spend time with," Koneko replied.
"… I see…," The Knight replied. Well, it didn't mind the girl and having someone to talk to, someone who enjoyed sweets was important to it. "… Koneko… a good devil and I think… a friend."
"… You think?" Koneko inquired, her mood a bit better.
"… I think so, not sure about that, feelings… are difficult to understand," The Knight settled on.
"… I see," Koneko replied, with a tiniest bit of a smile, at least she could understand his point of view. "… Video game?"
"Let's," The Knight agreed.
After that, the two spent a few hours more playing together, talking about other stuff, school related and so on and so forth. Snacks were devoured, small talk was made, the two beings enjoying an afternoon playing games together. And as it was time to leave, Koneko packed herself, before saying her goodbye, leaving the Knight alone. And just like that, the second guest of the day arrived shortly after the girl left.
"… Good Afternoon," Ophis greeted.
"… Good Afternoon," The Knight greeted back and let the girl inside. "… So, shall we play?"
"… What can we play?" Ophis asked, her head tilted to the side.
"… Worms, Portal 2,Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Cuphead," The Knight counted the ones it bought once again. "… Your choice?"
"… How do you play them?" She asked.
"… Portal 2 you work together to traverse puzzles," The Knight began. "… Don't know about others."
"… Then how about Worms?" She suggested. Worms, tiny little things, innocent, probably.
"… Okay," The Knight said and put the appropriate disc.
After that, both of the beings had to be accustomed to the controls and the fact that they were trying to murder worms they possessed. At first it was slow, as neither of the duo knew anything about the game, but as the time passed they began learning coming up with more strategies, one of which the Knight did itself back in the Hallownest.
"… Baseball bat, your worm, water," The Knight said and smashed the worm with a bat, sending it to the ocean, where it drowned as soon as it hit the water.
Ophis frowned at the display, before her turn came. "… I will do the same."
She tried, but she miscalculated and the worm bounced off a wall, the girl not able to kill it. This gave the opportunity for the Knight as it used one of the last worms it had to drop a dynamite on the girl, killing her last worm and making her lose. The girl blinked as she looked at the screen, not what she expected, before she turned towards the Knight.
"… Once more," She requested.
"… Okay," The Knight said.
However, the Knight was slightly better than her and was able to snatch another victory from the dragon, who fumed in response. To Ophis credit, she refused to give up after that and the two continued playing. However, as they were plaing, the two began talking.
"… Grimm… Who is he? What is he?" Ophis asked.
"… Old Flame, Troupe Master," The Knight replied.
"… Species," Ophis clarified.
"… Not sure," The Knight lied that last part.
"… How did you meet?" Ophis asked.
"… Lantern," The Knight replied, causing the dragon to blink.
"… Lantern? What lantern?" She asked, her curiosity piqued.
"… Old one, forgotten, scarlet flame," The Knight settled on. "… You?"
"… Me?" She asked, her head tilted to the side.
"… Someone like Grimm? Strong? A Rival perhaps?" The Knight clarified.
"… Great Red," Ophis said.
"… Great Red? What is he?" The Knight asked.
"… Dragon, intruder, obstacle," She replied.
"… Why an obstacle? Why an intruder?" The Knight asked.
"… Home invaded, want it back," She replied and turned back to the Knight. "… Silence, I want silence, the silence of my home."
"… I understand," The Knight replied, as it was reminded of the eerie Abyss and how quiet it was. Some preferred silence and it would respect that, it knew the feeling quite well, not being able to speak for most of its life. "… Why tell me this?"
"… I think you are strong, very strong," Ophis replied. "… I want proof of that."
"… Won't give it to you… weak," The Knight replied, while the girl shook her head.
"… Liar," The girl said, the Knight turning towards her. "… You're strong."
"… Why do you think that?" The Knight asked, it's head tilted to the side.
"… The power, ten years ago," She replied. "… Familiar, powerful, want to know what it is."
"… Won't tell," The Knight replied, the girl staring right at it.
"… Why not?" She asked.
"… Dangerous, said it before," The Knight replied. "… Can't help with your dream, don't want to help with it."
"… Why not?" She asked, why didn't he want to help her.
"… No reason to," The Knight replied.
"… I see," Ophis said.
It was true, Knight didn't have a reason to help her, he didn't praise her, didn't worship her, he simply spent time with her. However, that didn't mean she couldn't try, there were certain advantages of being a dragon as powerful as she was after all.
"… Power," She began, the Knight glancing at her. "… I can give you power… if you help me."
"… Don't want it," The Knight replied, the girl blinking at it.
"… Why not?" She asked, her head tilted to the side.
"… Never accomplished anything through sheer power alone, don't want to," The Knight replied.
"… Accomplished? What did you accomplish?" She asked.
"… A lot," The Knight asked, before gesturing to the console. "...Portal 2?"
"… Let's," Ophis said, deciding to leave the matter for now. There were still plenty of sweets to eat after all.
The Knight was walking towards the school, when a familiar face walked up to it.
"Good Morning, Knight," Momo greeted it with a smile.
"… Good Morning," The Knight replied.
"How are you feeling today?" She asked.
"… Decent, played some games yesterday," It replied.
"Is that so? What did you play?" She asked.
"… Portal 2, Worms," It replied.
"Aren't they games meant for multiple players?" She asked, while the Knight nodded. "Did you play with somebody?"
"… Two acquaintances," It replied.
"Was one of them Koneko Toujou by any chance?" She asked, while the Knight turned towards her and nodded.
"… How did you know?" It asked.
"Rumours have been going around the school about you two. How you were seen eating sweets together," She explained.
"… I see," The Knight replied.
"Well, what about the other person?" She inquired.
"… Won't tell," The Knight replied.
"Why not?" She asked, her head tilted to the side.
"… Secret," The Knight settled on.
"Hmm…," Momo said.
That actually bothered her quite a bit. It sounded a bit like a date to her, but maybe she was mistaken. However, that did make her think of an idea, which could work.
"Say, Knight, would you like to play some games with me?" Momo asked, while the Knight turned towards her.
"… If you want to," The Knight replied. It didn't mind playing with more people.
"Then how about this weekend?" She asked, while the Knight nodded, making her smile. "Actually, that reminds me, can you give me your phone number and address?"
"… The address is here, don't have a phone number," It replied.
"Wait… you don't have a phone number?" She asked, not able to believe her own ears. "How come?"
"… Don't use it," The Knight replied.
"That's… unexpected," Momo said, trying to wrap her head around the idea of not having a phone in this day and age. However, before she could do so, a pair of individuals caught up to them.
"Good Morning, Knight, Hanakai," Sona and Tsubaki greeted them.
"Good Morning, President, Vice-President," Momo said back.
"… Good Morning, President, Vice-President," The Knight added.
"Seeing how we are on the same way, how about we walk together?" Sona suggested.
"… Okay," The Knight replied, while Sona sighed.
"Knight, what did I tell you?" She said.
"… Let us walk together," The Knight corrected itself.
"Better, that reminds me, how are you feeling, both of you?" She asked.
"… I am fine," The Knight replied.
"I am fine as well, President," Momo said.
"Glad to hear it, I hope we didn't interrupt you," Sona said.
"You didn't, President, although, I have to ask, did you know that Knight doesn't have a phone number?" Momo asked.
"Excuse me?" Sona asked, blinking her eyes. "That can't be right. I have got your phone number in school records, Knight, don't I?"
"… Parent's phone number, not mine. Don't have a phone, nor a phone number," The Knight replied, the trio looking at it like it lost his mind. "… Is that wrong?"
"How come you don't have a phone number? What if something happened? How could we contact you then?" Tsubaki asked.
"… Don't know, never needed it before," The Knight replied.
"Knight, I request that you get yourself a phone with a phone number in it," Sona ordered, the Knight raising it's eyebrow.
"… Is it necessary?" The Knight asked.
"I am afraid so, if you want, I can provide you with a phone with some of the school funds due to your accomplishments," Sona suggested.
"… I see, could you do that for me, President?" The Knight asked, it didn't want to go through the hassle of the electronic store like it did recently.
"I suppose I could do that, however, I expect you to take good care of it, understood?" She asked, while the Knight nodded.
"… Indeed, President," The Knight replied.
"Good, now then, let us go to the Student Council for now," She said and the trio headed towards their destination.
The Knight was walking from it's home, nothing coming on the radar, when it found itself in some kind of crossing. There a figure in some kind of white hood tripped and was falling, which made it react, grasping her before she could hit the ground, her baggage falling to the side. Green eyes peered into dull black eyes, before the girl blushed as she got her bearings.
"Umm… thank you for catching me," She said in broken Japanese.
"… You're welcome," The Knight said, grasped the baggage and walked up to here. "… Here it is yours."
"Thank you!" She said with a bright smile, the hood falling and thus revealing her beauty.
Green eyes, innocent smile, blonde hair and a slim body. What stood in front of the Knight was probably one of the most innocent things it had ever seen, which not even grubs could compare to, which actually surprised it. The girl in front of it seemed pure, innocent, different from the females and devils it was used to at school. It actually got it to pause for a moment.
"Umm… may I ask for your name?" She asked.
"… Arthur Knight," It replied.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mister Knight, I am Asia Argento," The girl introduced herself with a bow.
"… The pleasure is mine," The Knight replied.
"No, the pleasure is mine," She said with a bright smile. "I hope you don't mind, but can you tell me where the church is?"
"… On the hill, twenty minute walk from here," The Knight pointed the direction of it. "… Want me to walk you there?"
"I would hate to be a bother," Asia said sheepishly.
"… You're not," The Knight said and gestured to the baggage. "… Want me to help?"
"I can handle myself, but thank you," She replied, but then almost tripped again, the Knight ready to catch her, the girl blushing in response.
"… May I?" The Knight asked, while the girl nodded timidly and handed over the bag. "… Shall we?"
"Okay," The girl said and the two began walking towards the destination.
"Why are you helping me, Knight?" The girl asked, as the two slowly made their way there.
"… No reason, just wanted to do it," The Knight replied. For some reason, the girl reminded it of the grubs and it wanted to make sure she would get safely to her destination.
"I see… you're a kind person, Knight, thank you," She said with a smile, while the Knight shook it's head.
"… Not a kind person," The Knight replied, making the girl blink.
"But you helped me out, I am sure of that," She protested, while the Knight simply shrugged in response.
As they were walking towards the church, the duo came across a rather peculiar sight. A boy was crying, a bit of blood on his knee. The Knight intended to simply ignore him and move on, but Asia walked up to him, before it could say anything. Then she did something that made it blink. She put her hands over the boy's knee, green light coming out from them, the wound healing in front of their eyes.
"There, but please be careful from now on," Asia said.
"I will, thank you!" The boy said, wiped his face and ran away to his mother, who looked suspiciously at them and quickly ushered the boy away from them, Asia's smile dropping in response.
"Witch," The mother said as she took the boy.
"… Rude," The Knight commented.
"It's fine…," Asia began. "I am used to it."
"… Why?" The Knight asked.
"Ever since I was little I could heal wounds, but never had any friends, they avoided me, I was called a... monster," She replied with a weak smile on her face. "But, it's all in the past, we can go now."
"… Let's," The Knight agreed.
A monster? The girl in front of it? Hardly. There were proper monsters in the world, stray devils for instance. There were the enemies it fought, the challenges it overcame, many of them monstrous in nature. If anything, it was closer to the monster than the girl in front of it. The amount of bugs, infested or not, it had slain was far too high, even if most of them were done in self defense only.
However, for the time being, the Knight decided to leave it be and simply walked next to the girl, the two sharing some idle talk with Asia doing most of the talking, while the Knight replied as shortly as possible. Then, after a decent while, they arrived at their destination, the same church where it met the now dead Dohnaseek.
"We are here, thank you for carrying the baggage all the way here," Asia said, her hand reaching for her baggage.
"… Wait," The Knight said stopping her in her tracks. "… Is it a proper destination?"
"Yes, the address matches," She replied, her head tilted to the side.
"And who might you be?" A voice said, four figures appearing in front of them.
One of them was a young looking girl with blonde hair styled into twin-tails and blue eyes, wearing a Gothic Lolita outfit. The other one was an attractive young woman with violet eyes and silky black hair reaching to her ankles. The third one was a tall buxom woman with brown eyes and long navy blue hair that obscured her right eye. The last member of the group was a young man with short white hair and red eyes, wearing clerical clothing and with a disturbing smile on his face.
"Um… I am Asia Argento," The girl introduced herself and gestured to the Knight. "And this is Arthur Knight."
"So, you're Asia? We were expecting you, please come inside, as for your friend, I am afraid it's a private property and would like to request you to leave," The tall buxom one said.
"… Who are you?" The Knight asked. It couldn't sense magic, but the fact that a crazy murderous angel tried to kill it and was last seen here was too suspicious to be ignored.
"What is it to you?" The woman asked.
"… Curious," The Knight replied.
"I am Kalawarner," The woman replied. "Now, does it answer your question?"
"Hang on, Kalawarner," The blonde one said. "Doesn't he look familiar to you?"
"What do you mean, Mittelt?" The woman asked.
"Oh… I see," The one with violet eyes said. "I know you, Dohnaseek mentioned somebody young snooping around."
"So, that's him, Raynare?" The boy said. "Looks like a devil to me, look at those dead black eyes!"
"Shut up, Freed," Raynare said, while the group split up, slowly surrounding them. "Well, I think I have got a few questions for you, Knight. Most importantly, how did a pathetic human like you kill a fallen angel?"
And at that moment, the group changed. First, the boy grinned like crazy, sword made of light and revolver in his hands. The three girls grew a pair of black wings each. Spears made of pure light appeared in their hands, while Asia yelled as she fell on the ground, the Knight tossing her baggage to the side as it analyzed it's situation.
Surrounded from each side, four opponents total, assuming the previous fallen angel was as strong as they were, it meant that it was in a bit of trouble. Dreamshield would not be enough for them, too many projectiles to dodge. Limited area to maneuver, Asia on the side, who it couldn't simply leave now could it? It could run away, but it doubted they would give up. It seems like it had no other choice. The Knight's eyes narrowed, it's resolve steeled. They wanted a fight? It would give to them.
Quick Note, I don't know anything about DxD past volume 4, Kokabiel Arc. The reason for that is simple, most DxD crossovers I read haven't reached past that and I am not suffering through Issei's perversion by reading official LN. So, yeah, this might be a problem, though, when that happens, I will see what to do. By the way, I am surprised that there is less DxD fan art than some other franchises, considering how long this series has been going on. Then again, considering it's reputation as a borderline hentai, I am not surprised most people stay away from it, except for horny teenagers that is.
