I've looked up to you for as long as I've known,

You've helped me to stand and watched as I've grown,

Took for granted the kindness and love that you've shown,

And right now, I feel so alone.

You'd pick me up each time I'd fall,

And tell me "don't cry, head up, stand tall",

And whenever I found my back up to the wall,

I tried to be like you, invincible.

I'm every father's idea of a nightmare kid,

Everything you wanted, the opposite I did,

But my feelings I hid, locked under a lid,

Like how highly you're respected.

You lecture me about the things I do,

Don't drink, don't smoke, heck, don't get a tattoo!

You say I'm not careful, that I don't think things through,

Hey, Dad, I love you too.

You worry where I am if I'm gone for too long,

You show me the right way when I go wrong,

Both body and mind, you help me be strong,

You go the extra furlong.

You've done all this for nearly twenty years,

Helped me through problems, chased away my fears,

But it's my turn to show you you're dear,

That I want you here.

You're sick right now, you've been sick for a while,

Sometimes it's so bad it's too hard to smile,

But I got faith you'll get through this trial,

Or maybe I'm in denial.

Nothing's ever phased you, you've always been brave,

If you have to save us, or if we misbehave,

But for the first time today I saw you cave,

And tears came like a wave.

I'll be there for you, in the same way,

You've been there for me all my life, every day,

We'll find a way for this to make this go away,

Because I want you to stay.

There's nothing you can't beat, no one you can't be,

You've been everything to me since I was a baby,

Forget those who can't see, those who disagree,

Because you'll always be invincible to me.
