Heir of the Immortals Resurrection
Chapter 9
Mary Walker glided through the hellfire club, weaving in between its well-dressed members. Her eyes flicked up to the cages dangling from the ceiling, scantily dressed women gyrated in them at odds with the classical music that permeated the room. Her lips curled in disgust.
'What does it say that the most powerful people in our society congregate in a place like this?'
'That even the supposed cultured of us are weak against their baser instincts.' Harald replied within her mind.
Mary snagged a flute of champagne from a passing waiter. 'That thought makes me lose hope for humanity.'
Herald snorted in her mind as she began climbing a spiral staircase. Her slender hand gliding along the railing, her polished fingernails reflecting the light from the crystalline chandeliers above. Pausing at the top of the staircase, she looked out over the people below.
They clustered together in groups on the crimson carpet, or around the white furniture spread throughout the room. Opening her mind, the whispers of their conversations flow to her. Money was being made, deals struck, and most of them were for personal gain,
'Are you sure we need this Emma Frost?'
'We don't need Emma per se, just her business connections to get my latest creation on the market.'
During the day to day, they had gone to the zoo where Herald collected the blood of an alligator, a hippo, and a hyena. Using plants as a medium for his new Biokinesis, he created a pill.
This pill contained the gene that gave hyenas is strong teeth, the immune system of an alligator, and the antibacterial slime produced by hippos. Isolating these animal traits, Herald hopes it would be able to improve the quality of life for humans, as well as give them another avenue for income, but it needed to be tested.
Emma Frost had taken over her father's company, so she had access to the pharmaceutical companies needed for testing and approval to put the drug onto the market.
Approaching the room Emma was in according to the thoughts she had read of the other patrons, she slowed her pace. Voices filtered from a cracked open doorway. Leaning against polished wooden panels, a single Brown eye peered through the crack.
In the room, Emma Frost, a 5'10" slender curvaceous blonde with ice-blue eyes stood before another woman.
The other woman was 5'7" tall with tan skin, curly black hair, and brown eyes.
While Emma wore a white corset, thigh-high white boots, and elbow-length white gloves. The other woman was more conservative, she wore a dark gold gown that skirt was decorated in leopard spots. A golden tiara rested on top of her head, keeping her dark curls out of her face.
Dark streaks ran down her face as tears smeared her mascara.
"Emma, you have to help me. I want out, Sebastian is no longer the man I once knew. He's become obsessed with wealth; he's dealing with people that are creating things that will destroy our race."
She shook her head, "He thinks he's in control, he thinks he can manipulate both sides, but all it's doing is pulling him deeper into darkness."
Emma placed her hands on the woman's shoulders, "Lourdes, he's watching me too close, I want to help you, but if he found out he would kill us both."
Seizing her chance, Mary stepped into the room, closing the door with a telekinetic pulse. Both women spun around as the door clicked shut.
In an instant, Emma's skin switch to diamond, her eyes changed to crimson and she took a menacing step forward, "Who are you?"
Mary raised her hands, the small purse dangling from her shoulder slapping against her formfitting black dress, "Relax, I don't want any trouble."
Emma continued forward.
Wrapping herself in a bit of telekinetic power, Mary blurred to the other side of the room. Leaning against the vanity, she curled her fingers into a fist the mirror cracked, jagged shards of glass floating out of the frame to point at the two women.
Her more violent personalities began pushing for control. Her eyes hardened as white makeup began to crawl up the left side of her chin. "I said I'm not here to cause trouble, but if you force my hand, I will defend myself."
Placing a hand on Emma's shoulder, Lourdes stepped forward. "I am Lourdes Chantel, if you aren't here to cause trouble then why are you here?"
Mary relaxed the white paint flaked off her face and the jagged pieces of glass faded back into the mirror. Lines of fire danced across the cracks, merging the mirror back into one solid piece.
Taking a seat on the bench in front of the vanity, Mary crossed one leg over the other, "I am here for two reasons." Reaching into her purse, she pulled out a pill bottle filled with red capsules, "My associate and I want Emma Frost to have her scientist in the medical industry look these over." With a flick of her wrist, the pill bottle slowly soared through the air.
Emma snatched the bottle out of the air looking at the red capsules inside, "What is it?"
"Something my associate hopes will give us the revenue to begin his dream."
"And what would that be?"
Removing a folded slip of paper from her purse, she placed it down on the vanity before rising to her feet, "that would be telling Ms. Frost, and given your history, you haven't earned enough of our trust yet for that." She began making her way towards the door, opening it she paused and glanced over her shoulder, "just look at the pills and let us know if you're interested in what you find."
"Wait!" Lourdes called out, "what's the second reason you're here?"
"There's going to be a Sentinel attack tonight," she stepped out of the room as both women's eyes widened.
'What do you think?' Mary asked as she walked down the hallway.
'I think we can ingratiate ourselves to the two women by helping Lourdes disappear.'
'And how would we go about doing that?'
'Shit.'
'What…'
The building shook as the roof exploded, plaster, bits of wood, and other building material rain down onto the open floor below as a purple hand reached through the ceiling.
'Never mind.'

Sitting on a rooftop across from the massive three-story Victorian Manor that housed the hellfire club, Herald watched as the purple and red robot reach through the roof. Slowly, he rose to his feet, his heavy-soled boots scraped along the concrete of the roof.
Dusting off his black jeans, Herald stared at the robot, his red eyes flashing as white fire crawled down his hands from the sleeves of his dark turtleneck, clinging to him like a second skin. Bending his legs, he exploded from the rooftop with a blast of telekinetic force, the concrete cracking under the force as he soared through the air.
Strands of red telekinetic power curled around him, keeping him on target. He slammed into the metal giant, the heat from his hands melting the purple-pink metal.
Rectangular eyes covered in red glass flashed, mutant detected, a heavily synthesized voice boomed through the air. Pushing himself across its body with his telekinetic power, he allowed his hand to drag across the Giant's torso, carving a molten channel in the machine.
Suddenly, something within the giant pulsed.
Steam burst from the glowing orange molten metal as it was pulled back into place. The only sign there was any damage was the spots he touched were now free of purple-painted metal, revealing the shining silver beneath.
The splintering of wood echoed through the air as the machine removed its arm from the hellfire club. It reached towards Herald, a hole in the center of its palm glowing yellow.
Opening a crimson gash beneath him, Herald fell through. In an instant, Herald emerged from another crimson gash on its back, a layer of telekinetic power covering his body, allowing him to cling to the giant.
"It healed itself, the pulse of energy just before it does, there was something different about it."
Spotting a man-sized hatch beside his right knee, Harald allowed telekinetic power to flow through his arm. Muscles bulged and veins pressed against his skin as he reached forward, wrapping his fingers around the handle.
The sound of tearing metal was lost as the giant continued destroying the building below.
Power flowed into the metal. It liquefied, slowly sliding up Herald's arm before hardening like a second skin.
Peering inside the hole, his eyes widened as he saw a man dressed in an orange shirt almost merged with the machine.
'Okay, this is not what I expected.' Reaching out with his mind, he connected to the man. His body jerked and his mind shifted as he was partially pulled inside. He found himself in a world that was a blue wireframe representation of the world outside.
Pushing deeper into the man's mind, files appeared before him, springing open to give him information.
'This has got to be the strangest mind I've ever seen.'
Blinking his eyes, he focused on the information in front of him. This man's name was Madison Jeffries. He was born to Don and Valerie Jeffries.
From a young age, he was interested in anything mechanical, often helping his father when he worked on the family car. As the years went by, he made a reputation for himself around the neighborhood as a technological wizard, often being able to fix the most broken pieces of technology.
When his brother went into the service, Madison followed. With his talents, he was given the job as a mechanic. After getting out of the service, he moved back home to be closer to his family.
Around this time, his brother had completed medical school and started his practice. With mutant tensions on the rise, Madison wanted to do more. So, taking the money he had saved up in the military he bought an old junkyard. Using his abilities, he forged a giant robotic suit of armor and began using it whenever mutants were attacked.
Eventually, he became something of a legend in the mutant community and a go-to when people were in trouble. One day while taking care of another riot between the humans and mutants, he witnessed mutants being kidnapped by wizards.
He tried to intervene and discovered it was a trap. He was then captured by the magical community and taken to the Weapon X facility in Canada where he was magically controlled to become something of a living Sentinel.
Now knowing the man's history, Herald pulled back allowing his replication field to mimic the man's powers. In his mind's eye, the man's form shifted into a holographic representation, made of ones and zeros. Two strands of ones and zeros flowed from the man's body, twisting together to form a strand of DNA.
Herald's body jerked, his back arching as the ability of Technopathy was installed into his body. Just as his body relaxed from the acquisition of his new power, his mind was pulled elsewhere.
He stood in a large concrete room, the air smelled damp and musty. Tables were spread out around him, each one holding a body. His fingers flexed, and different body parts on the four corpses around him shifted, changing into a flesh-colored putty.
It was then he realized he was in someone else's body. Relaxing, he allowed the person's memories to flow over him.
This man was Lionel Jeffries, brother to Madison. They appear to have a familial link. Knowledge flowed into Herald's mind as he unintentionally replicated Lionel's organic manipulation by having so much of himself in the man's body.
Suddenly, his world shook. In a blink he found himself clinging to the sentinel's back.
Grabbing a hold of Madison's shirt, Herald forced his will into the technology holding him. In an instant, the technology shifted, flowing off and away from Madison like silver-colored water.
Pushing off from the celestial he leaped through the air. As gravity takes hold, a crimson gash opens in the air beneath him.
Landing in central Park, he reached out to Mary 'The Sentinel should collapse any minute, I've taken out the man controlling it.'
'Man controlling it?'
'I will explain later. Right now, follow Lourdes and Emma.'
'On it.'
Keeping the connection open in the back of his mind, Herald knelt beside Madison placing the fingertips of a hand on either side of the man's head, he used his new Technopathy as well as the knowledge of organic manipulation he replicated from Lionel to build stronger defenses and Madison's mind.
'So, the magical world goes from kidnapping and experimenting with mutant blood. To kidnapping mutants and turning them into living weapons.' His lips twisted, 'his conscious mind remembers nothing after the moment of his kidnapping, but the part of the brain that stores visual information remembers a base in Canada.'
Withdrawing his hands, he stood to his feet. Wrapping a layer of telekinetic power around the man's body, a red aura flared to life as he floated into the air.
Laying the man over his shoulder, a circular crimson portal opened before him.
'That jives with what Sirius had in his mind, but if I'm going to go there, I need to prepare.'

Mary Walker watched from the shadows as the Sentinel began to collapse, large portions falling to crush the hellfire club.
Telepathic power washed out from Emma as she weaved an allusion around the occupants. When it was done, Lourdes lay crushed under the arm of the Sentinel blood pooling beneath her body.
Sebastian Shaw, a man 6'2" tall, broad-shouldered with healthy pale skin, short black hair, and blue eyes. Mutton chops curved on the side of his face and onto his jaw, going well with the Victorian-style clothing he seemed to favor when at the hellfire club. Knelt on the ground, clutching Lourdes's hand as he wept.
Leaning down, he placed a kiss on her lips before slowly rising to his feet.
Suddenly, the illusion bent as Herald appeared, his crimson eyes glowing as the world forgot they existed.
Mary looked at the man slung over his shoulder, "Who's that?"
"Madison Jeffries, apparently the wizarding world has changed their MO. instead of just using mutants for genetic research, they are now using them as living weapons."
"What are we going to do with him?"
"He's got a brother named Lionel, who can manipulate organic matter." Laying Madison on the ground, he created a portal the exact dimensions of the man's body. Reaching out with his mind, he connected briefly to Lionel and created a bridge between the two locations.
The moment Madison appeared on an empty table in his brother's lab, he closed both portals. Stretching his back, Herald locked eyes with Mary, "Where's Emma and Lourdes"
"Headed to Wilson Fisk to arrange for Lourdes to have a new life."
Herald ran a hand through his hair, Wilson Fisk was known in the underworld as the kingpin, leader of a massive crime organization. If Emma and Lourdes made it to him, they would be compromised, and it would make gaining capital for the mutant Haven he wanted to build that much more difficult.
Moving closer, Herald wrapped his arm around Mary, "I think we can do better than Mr. Fisk especially with the new abilities I acquired tonight."
–XX –
Emma moved briskly down the abandoned streets of New York City, her mind broadcasting a message of ignore whatever you see to those around her.
Lourdes huffed beside her, "Why don't I just teleport us there?"
"Because Fisk doesn't like uninvited visitors, and I don't want to get shot tonight."
Suddenly, Emma stumbled. Lourdes grabbed her arm, and both women disappeared in a red flash, the portal beneath their feet fading in the blink of an eye.
–XX –
Regaining her balance, Emma Frost looked around. She was in a large room, her breath steamed on the air from the cold. Square metal doors were set into the wall to her right.
The door to an office was behind her and to her left. Away from the door were metal cabinets.
With each inhalation, antiseptic filled her nose with a hint of something else?
Lourdes moved closer to Emma. "Emma, where are we?" her Brown eyes flicked from side to side, her posture tense as she searched for an enemy.
"If I had to guess," Emma began slowly, "I would say we are in a hospital."
"Close, you are in the morgue at St. Mary's Hospital in New York."
Both women spun around.
A teenager emerged from the office. His footsteps were silent against the ground as he moved with a predator's grace. Emma moved in front of Lourdes, diamond covering her skin as she eyed the newcomer.
He was 6'2" tall with a lean muscular build. Shaggy dark hair complimented his dark blue skin, and luminescent red eyes shone as he closed the distance between them.
He was dressed in a black turtleneck and jeans. Feet adorned in combat boots move silently across the white linoleum floor speckled with grey as he stopped before them.
Emma's red eyes narrowed, "Who are you?"
Stopping within arm's reach of them, the blue-skinned teen bowed, "My name is Herald Gallio," coming out of his bow, he looked into both women's eyes, "I believe you met my associate earlier tonight."
Emma looked at the teen before her, something was off about him. Someone this young should not carry themselves with such confidence and surety of who they are. Her posture relaxed, a slow smile curling her crystalline lips. In the end, it didn't matter, he was a man, and she could deal with those.
"Mary," Lourdes said still slightly behind Emma, "you're the person she told us about, the person that could give me a new life."
"You are correct ma'am; I promise it's better to deal with me than Kingpin."
"And why is that?" Emma asked.
"Because William Fisk is a psychopath, once he has his claws into you, he will never let you go, and anything he does for you will always be held over your head for service in the future."
Emma knew he was right, when she first escaped from her family she went to Fisk. In exchange for room and board, she would telepathically alter the people he asked her to. Unfortunately, the one time she refused had seen her back out on the street, but she knew he would one day call in the favors he provided, "How are you any different?"
"Because you already know what I want Ms. Frost, and the way I will help you Ms. Chantel is much more thorough than what Mr. Fisk could do."
Emma and Lourdes shared a look. Slowly, Lourdes nodded.
Emma turned back to Herald. "Fine, Show us what you can do."
Nodding, Herald moved past the two women to the recessed cabinet on the very end. Opening it, he pulled out the long metal table within.
Both women's eyes widened as they saw another Lourdes Chantel lying completely nude on the table. Dried blood trailed down from the corner of her mouth, and the ribs on one side of her body caved in. The exact wounds that killed Lourdes in Emma's illusion.
"I don't think Kingpin could have produced a body down to the genetic level with the exact wounds that killed Lourdes in your illusion, Ms. Frost."
Emma moved forward while Lourdes stared at her doppelgänger, "How?"
"I am a man of many talents."
In actuality, he used his Biokinesis as well as his organic manipulation to change a Jane Doe into an exact copy of Lourdes Chantel. The only thing it required was for Mary to return to Chantel's room and collect a hair so he could have a DNA sample to work from.
Tearing her eyes away from the body, Emma stared at Herald, "Impressive, but I don't see how this will completely help Lourdes."
Pushing the metal table back into the recessed cabinet, Herald approached Lourdes.
Lourdes took a step back, and Emma moved in front of her.
Pausing, Herald raised his hands before focusing on Emma, "I have opened my mental shields enough for you to see my intentions. I care nothing about harming this woman or blackmailing her. My ambitions are much greater than that and neither would inspire the trust I want to cultivate between the three of us."
"Go on, look for yourself."
Emma allowed her diamond form to fade. Slowly, she reached out with a tendril of telepathic power. Connecting with his mind, she instantly had the Tendrils branch out like spiderwebs. Only for them to slam into barriers, causing her to wince and step back.
"I may want trust between us Ms. Frost, but I'm not a fool." Emma nodded, retracting her probes back into its single-strand and feeling his emotions.
He truly did want to help Lourdes, but he felt that she should be honest with Shaw and leave with her head held high instead of scurrying away like a frightened rabbit. Emma snorted. He obviously didn't know Sebastian.
Withdrawing her probe, she turned back to Lourdes and nodded.
Slowly, the tan-skinned woman approached him, her Brown eyes staring into his red.
Placing a hand on either side of Lourdes's head, Herald allowed his fingertips to touch her skin. Combining his Biokinesis with organic manipulation, he allowed the power to flow through her body.
Wrapping her X gene in a protective barrier, since he wanted to protect that strand of DNA, he began switching traits, digging deeper into her ancestry to change her parents and create a different DNA profile than her original.
Emma watched as Lourdes's skin lightened ever so slightly, and her Brown eyes became Hazel. A ripple of power flowed down her hair, turning it from curly to a wavy black. A grimace twisted her face as she grew taller, topping out at 2 inches away from 6 feet.
Allowing his hands to drop, Herald took a step back, and Lourdes stared at her reflection in one of the square doors lining the left side of the wall. "While you are still related to your original self, it's such a distant relation, that no one's going to notice."
Closing her eyes, Lourdes teleported across the room. Releasing a breath as she completed the journey.
"Your new name is Danielle Lewis. I have taken the liberty of transplanting your skills from Spain into an American college degree. You are an orphan, your parents died in a car accident, after which you inherited $50,000.
He looked up, "As a matter of fact," he threw out his right hand, an oval portal opened, and Mary Walker stepped through.
Moving to Herald's side, she looped her arm through his.
Emma watched the interaction, curious at how this woman could be so affectionate to someone so young. It's done, Danielle Lewis his birth records are placed in the proper place for anyone looking.
Holding out a bag to Lourdes, she smiled, "Your new drivers' license, Social Security card, and bank card."
Emma whistled slowly, "I will admit, your skills are impressive, and with the body, you can't exactly renege on the deal in the future. That's not counting the changes to her DNA, but $50,000 isn't a lot of money to start a new life."
Herald's eyes narrowed, "If you want her to have more Ms. Frost, then it will come out of the profit made from those capsules Mary gave you." His lips curled into a smile, "Call it an incentive to do a good job, and an insurance policy to keep you from betraying me."
Emma slowly nodded; this was much more favorable than dealing with the Kingpin. At least now they were closely tied together in a form of mutually ensured destruction. Removing the pill bottle from her pocket, she held it up, "How do I contact you once this has been looked over."
"You're a telepath, Ms. Frost, those of us with that ability are always connected in one way or another. However, to keep our interactions as quiet as possible." He flicked his wrist, sending a folded piece of paper shooting towards her.
Catching it, Emma opened it to see a phone number.
"Call that when you're done and I will come to you." Wrapping an arm around Mary's waist, Herald twisted. Both of them disappeared in a red flash.
"What do you think?" Lourdes asked turning away from her new face.
"He's definitely powerful and useful at the moment, but it remains to be seen what his intentions are."
Lourdes closed the distance between them, the paper bag containing her new life swinging in her hand, "You read his mind?"
"Only enough to know he doesn't mean us any harm."
Lourdes slipped her arm through Emma's, "That's good right?"
"I guess, but there's something strange about him."
"We are mutants darling we are all strange."
Before Emma could respond space distorted as Lourdes teleported them away.
–XX –
Mary looked around as they appeared on a rooftop, slow music filtering up from a nearby concert. Turning, she stared into Herald's eyes, "What are we doing here?"
"We have been moving so fast lately I just wanted to take a break," he offered her a soft smile stretching out his hand. "May I have this dance?"
For a moment Mary just stared at him. Slowly, she wrapped her arms around his neck. He wrapped his arms around her waist. Together they swayed on the rooftop to the music blow forgetting about the cares of the world for just a moment.
