"Come on, let's go, go, go!" Sisu called, opening the door as everyone rushed in. Gabriel and Adam quickly ducked into the building as Cast Bots chased them, the Dream Keepers letting out a sigh of relief as the doors shut behind them.
"That was more intense than a rattler at a barbie!" Jake said.
"I was waiting for some funny Australian sayings," Gabriel mused. "Needed to lighten the mood."
"At least Gizmoduck and Darkwing Duck will keep the Cast Bots busy outside," Adam said. He opened up the Golden Atlas and gave a hum. "Okay, I got a map of the Imagination Pavilion in here. There should be a light switch right, around… Here!" The cyborg flipped a switch on the wall, and soon enough the lights flickered on the building.
Unlike the bright and happy pavilion that they had been expecting, the lights seemed almost half-hearted in their attempt to light room. Gabriel and Adam shared a confused look, walking down the halls as music only blearily played on the speakers.
"You know, I was expecting something more fun and whimsical from a place called the Imagination Pavilion," Sisu mused.
"Something's going on here," Adam agreed. "It's almost like this place is more like the Wasteland than the Magical World…"
The building suddenly lurched like an earthquake hit it, with the lights flickering wildly and machinery grinding to a halt. One of the nearby doors started smoking, and soon fell over with a dead THUMP as comical clouds of smoke came out of the room.
"This place has seen better days," Jake said.
Gabriel held up his Dragon Gem, letting it glow softly in the air. "You know, I bet Figment knows what's going on here," the raven said. "And with my Dragon Gem, we can easily track him."
"Lead the way," Sisu said, the group following Gabriel as he used his Dragon Gem like a homing beacon. The group went through various rooms of the Imagination Pavilion, each of them seemingly on the verge of happiness and sadness. The music also seemed to fluctuate, with only a few of the words being discernable from the white noise. Once they got to the finale room, the Dragon Gem stopped glowing.
"He must be in here somewhere," Adam said. The group inspected every part of the room, with the cyborg taking interest in a pedestal center to the place. A cloth was draped over it in a very dragon-like shape. "Found him!" Adam called, removing the cloth to reveal Figment underneath. "There you are, Figment!"
"Oh. Hello," Figment replied, not looking at the adventurer.
That made Gabriel and Adam feel like something was off. "No big welcome and hello musical number?" Gabriel asked.
"Why bother?" Figment said glumly, falling over onto the floor.
"Now that doesn't sound like the Figment I know," Adam said, picking the little dragon up. "Although you've seen better days, buddy. Lose weight?"
"The only weight I've lost is the hole in here," Figment said, pointing to his heart.
"You need someone to patch that up?" Sisu asked, suddenly materializing twine and needle. She looked at her claws in confusion. "Where did this come from?"
"The imagination Pavilion is supposed to make your imagination come true," Gabriel explained. "Basically if you believe enough, you get Genie-type powers. It's a great invention by the Dreamfinder, really…"
Figment suddenly started crying loudly. "I'm sorry, Mr. Dreamfinder! I failed you!" the little dragon said.
Adam held Figment close and tried to comfort him. "Um, okay, let's just, try to calm down now… Gabriel, I'm not the best at giving emotional comfort, help!"
The raven took Figment for himself. "Okay Figment, tell us what happened here? I get the feeling that Hex isn't the big issue."
"Oh Hex didn't do anything to me," Figment said. "But he did remind me of what I lost. Dreamfinder, I promised to look after this place for him after he went off to find more dreams."
"But you've been doing the solo act for years now, and I think you're doing just fine," Adam said.
Figment rolled his eyes. "Sure my fans love me, but everyone else is always so judgmental. 'Where's Dreamfinder?' 'Why can't they bring Dreamfinder back?' 'Wow, was Figment always this annoying?' I try to do my best, but everyone just wants Dreamfinder back!" The building shook again, with one of the screens on the wall suddenly flickering back on. "And then there's the message that Dreamfinder left me…"
On the screen came a holographic version of Dreamfinder himself. "Figment, if you're receiving this, then I've been away longer than I meant to be," he said, taking off his top hat. "It seems that the world doesn't have as much hidden imagination as I thought…"
"Dreamfinder," Adam said sadly.
"But don't worry, my friend, I will keep searching as long as it takes," Dremfinder said, putting his hat back on. "And when I find what I seek, you'll be the first to know."
With that the message cut off, leaving Figment to cry once more. Gabriel and Sisu looked to each other, not knowing what to do now. Setting Figment back on the pedestal, the raven looked at his Dragon Gem and thought about everything.
"Adam, Figment is clearly hurting on the inside," Gabriel stated. "And I fear that if we don't help him now, he might just drag this whole place into the Wasteland with his sheer despair alone. But we need something, a spark, anything, to get our little dragon friend back in good spirits."
"A spark… A spark…" Adam thought. He looked at his Golden Atlas, and inspiration struck him. Setting the book down in front of Figment, the cyborg looked to his friends. "I think I may have something. Gabriel, I'll need the music working in here, though."
The raven nodded, using his magic to straighten out the speakers in the room. Looking to Figment, Adam cleared his throat and started to sing, of all things.
One little spark, of inspiration
Is at the start, of all creation
"What is he doing?" Jake asked.
"Just let him sing," Gabriel shushed.
Right at the start, of everything that's new
One little spark, lights up for you!
"Is that his song?" Figment asked.
Adam shook his head. "Now, it's your song, the one you two shared and came up with! And it's nothing without the little dragon that made the Dreamfinder's research possible!"
Two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow
Horn of a steer, but a lovable fellow
From head to tail, he's royal purple pigment
And there, voila! You've got a Figment!
"But, I can't do anything on my own! At least, people don't like it when I do," Figment sighed.
"Come on, man, cheer up!" Sisu said.
"Yeah, the Dreamfinder wouldn't want you letting the spark of imagination die!" Gabriel exclaimed, singing along with the song himself.
We all have sparks, imaginations
That's how our minds, create creations
For they can make, our wildest dreams come true
Those magic sparks, in me and you!
Figment looked to everyone, the lights in the room starting not to flicker anymore. "Maybe you guys are right," the little dragon said.
"I mean, think of all the creative talent and imagination that's made the Magical World possible," Adam said.
From talking mice
To moving pictures
With one man's dream
This world was born
And many more
Stories are yet to be told!
One little spark
And off you go!
"And that's only what Walt did," Gabriel said, watching as images of Mickey and friends appeared around the room.
Off in the stars
Where wars are waging
Or on the page
Heroes are amazing
Even a frog
Can bring a smile to you!
So many sparks
To inspire you!
With those words, the worlds of Star Wars, Marvels, the Muppets, and many others appeared around the room, encouraging Figment with their words and images.
"I get it now!" Figment exclaimed, leaping into the air and summoning a trumpet to play. "Dreamfinder made me to represent all of the wonders of imagination. And somethings, imagination can run a bit too wild for others to follow, but that's what everyone else is for! To create something for everyone to enjoy, together!"
"Right! Imagination is something to be shared and changed with the world," Adam smiled. "You just have to believe in his dream, Figment, because Dreamfinder always believed in you!"
We all have sparks, imaginations!
That's how our minds, create creations!
Oh, they can make our wildest dreams come true!
Those little sparks in me and you!
Imagination! Imagination!
A dream can be a dream come true!
With just one spark in me and you!
Once the music ended, Figment laughed joyfully, bringing life back to the Imagination Pavilion in the full, much to the delight of everyone. "Oh, thank you, Dream Keepers!" Figment said, suddenly growing huge and giving the group a crushing hug. "Why, I have so much imagination now that I don't know what to do with it!"
"Could you start by not crushing us to death with it?" Adam asked.
Figment looked embarrassed and quickly shrunk back down to normal size. "Sorry about that! Gosh, I need to get this place back up and running. I mean, how will you all defeat Hex if you don't have imagination on your side!?" With a snap of his fingers Figment brought the group back to the entrance of the pavilion. "Oh, and as a thanks, have this, Adam. I think Dreamfinder would want you to have it."
The cyborg accepted the gift, which turned out to be Dreamfinder's old top hat. Reaching inside Adam found the key they were looking for, conveniently enough. "Thank you, Figment," Adam said.
"I'm sure that Dreamfinder will be back someday," Gabriel added.
"And I'll make sure this place is ready for him!" Figment smiled.
"See ya, fellow dragon man!" Sisu waved as they left.
With the Dream Keepers gone, Figment smiled and went back to fixing up the Imagination Pavilion. Somewhere else, in another place, riding in a funny contraption of his own design, a man smiled at the event that had unfolded. "Don't worry about me, Figment. Those kids have proven time again that there's still one spark of imagination left to be found."
Author's Note
If you're in Epcot, you have to stop by and say hello to Figment at least once! He's an adorable little dragon, though people have been a bit harsh on him ever since the rebranding back in the 2000s. I think Figment is just fine the way he is. After all, if you were the embodiment of imagination itself, wouldn't you be a bit mischievous and all over the place?
The song this time was "One Little Spark" from Journey into Imagination, with a made-up verse that I wrote in the middle there. Adam has Dreamfinder's hat now, so he's one more step closer to getting his SEA license! He's gotta meet the man himself, though. Keep on dreaming, everyone!
Next time will be the end of the Epcot arc. We have to save Donald!
