"Maman," I yawned, "why did we have to get such an early fight?" I blinked, bleary eyed and rested my head against the widow.

Papa gave a response but I couldn't follow what he said.

It was still dark out. The kind of dark where a person couldn't tell if it was late at night or early in the morning. Could be both depending on a person's point of view. All I knew was that the Sun was not awake. So I should not be awake. What kind of ungodly person schedules anything before the sun was awake?

"It should be a felony to mess with someone's sleep schedule." I grumped. Stupid Hawkmoth and his decision to do back to back akumas for the past week. Because of him, I've had a total of maybe 8 hours of sleep this week, plus the zero I got from last nights akuma.

Maman chuckled, tucking a loose lock of hair behind my ear, "You can sleep on the way to Shanghai."

"Yay," I raised a fist in a mock cheer. I lifted my head. "Has Uncle Wang," I yawned, "mentioned anything he wants to do for his birthday while we're visiting?"

Maman shook her head. "No, but he did take time off work so he can do stuff with us while we're there. He said he's happy just to spend time with us."

A smile tugged the corner of my mouth, "Uncle likes to cook with new things that he finds right. Maybe we could go somewhere new for him and get something."

"I think he'd like that. Tom, what do you think?"

Maman and Papa started discussing plans and going over details for the trip. I tried to listen in but i couldn't focus. I could barely focus on anything. I couldn't concentrate or think while sleep whispered sweet nothings.

A few announcements were made over the speakers and waves of people started to line up at the gate. Another announcement rang out and I watched uncomprehendingly as my parents stood up and gathered their things. It wasn't until Papa gently shook my shoulder that I realized what was going on.

Oh, right. We were going on a trip. Time to stand up Marinette. Come on, get up. Good. Now one foot in front of the other. Follow your parents. Wait, I had a bag.

I turned around to go get it but Papa was behind me with my suitcase. I smiled and chuckled, embarrassed, before taking it from him.

When I finally got settled in my seat my brain had only one thought.

Yay, sleep now.
