A/N: Slightly AUish, but the pairing just struck my mind and I had to write it down. More angsty goodness for those who love it.

Running in Circles

---

They didn't meet again at the far ends of the world, or in the middle of a field of green grass, no, none of that bullshit. This is the truth, this is life, and no matter how they write this down in history, the truth is that they met in a dirty little clearing in a dingy broken forest. It was raining a few days before, so the ground was muddy and slippery, and clung to your body if you let it.

This is what Kakashi found out when he crawled, rather difficultly, over to the fallen body of his once pupil, once friend, and once nemesis. Only the world never knew the former two relationships they tumultuously shared. When he finally reached him, he turned him onto his back. And staring back at him, face covered with blood and muck, yet still breathtakingly beautiful, was the blank, dull eyes of the once notorious Uchiha.

Simply put, they met, they fought, and they died. Although Kakashi wasn't quite physically dead yet, but if you asked him at the moment, he would have told you that although his wounds could still be treated, it wouldn't have been worth it. And if you could have seen both sets of eyes, except for one that was punctured and bleeding, you could have seen that they were not much different than the other, both were dead eyes.

Kakashi couldn't help but smile, his first, not really pupil was in his hands again. True, he lost his borrowed eye in the process, but the limp, cold body of the Uchiha was once more in his arms. Not brought down by his younger brother, the anbu of the fire country, or even by Naruto, but by him. His first, not really teacher, his first lover, his first…He coughed up blood then, and smiled, it didn't matter, truthfully, nothing really did anymore. He was in his arms again, he was his, and they were together, he brought the dead Uchiha to his chest and closed his eyes, yes, together forever.
