Whilst trying to get her newborn off to sleep, Neo-Queen Serenity takes in the evening sky and introduces her to some very special knowledge amongst the stars. Mixed Anime/Manga canon.

Serenity's movements slowed down.

The small little lady in her arms had begun to drift off. But she'd spent enough late nights with her to know it was better to be safe than sorry. So, she continued to rock her gently from side to side as she walked around the nursery.

After a little while her eyes were drawn to the massive drapes that hid the equally massive window. Only, they weren't quite obscuring the window.

There was a small gap in the drapes through which the tiniest shaft of light shone playfully in between.

For a moment Serenity hesitated. She'd matured much in the years she'd ruled Crystal Tokyo, but deep down a part of her would always be the wide-eyed, somewhat emotional, Juban schoolgirl. It was the schoolgirl that won out over the monarch. Common sense forgotten, Serenity pulled back the drapes letting in more light.

To her pleasant surprise the baby didn't cry, instead she simply yawned and opened her eyes a little wider. At first her red irises moved over the sparkling crystalline city beyond the window. However, they were soon drawn upwards to the real source of the illumination.

"That's right," whispered Serenity, "That's the Moon. Beautiful, isn't it? Kind of like you, Chibi-Usa…Wanna know a secret?" She held her baby a little closer to her chest. "Whenever you're feeling lonely, or scared, or anything bad like that, if you can look up and see the Moon it can make you feel a little better. It might not fix your problems, but it'll always help."

Serenity finally took her eyes off her child and redirected them above.

"That's what it was like for me. Whenever things got really, really hard, even the tiniest shard of moonlight was a comfort."

The silver orb grew larger in her vision as her gaze fixated upon it, almost as though they'd moved closer to one another.

"Most people think moonlight is just sunlight reflected from the Moon's surface. They're not wrong, but…it's so much more than that. Although most people don't hear it… It's a message… A message from a wise and kind Queen who used to live on the Moon. It's always the same words every single time. But it isn't meant for everyone. Just for me."

Out of the corner of her eye, Serenity saw the baby's hand reach out towards the starry sky above.

"Just for us," she corrected. "You can hear it too, can't you? The message?" Chibi-Usa let out a quiet cooing noise. "Even though you can't say it yet, I think she'd know how you'd reply. Because it's how I'd reply."

Chibi-Usa's fingertips connected with the glass as Serenity moved closer to the window. Serenity extended her own hand and placed her palm upon the pane. As if in response, the moonlight seemed to shine all the brighter.

"We love you too Mother..."
