Miguel was transported back to the world of the living... but there had been a mistake. As he looked around, it became clear to him that he was no longer in Santa Cecilia. Or Mexico.
"Miss? Can you tell me where I am?" Miguel asked Riley, who was walking home from school.
All Riley heard was realistic Mexican noises coming out of Miguel's mouth, and she didn't know what they meant. Now that she was in middle school she had a lot of classes, but Spanish wasn't one of them. She smiled and waved, since she didn't want to be rude.
"Um... okay..." said Miguel confused. Suddenly, he got an idea.
"I know! I'll stay at your house until I can get a bus back home!" said Miguel running up to Riley. He was the prettiest girl he had ever seen, so he continued to talk to her. "I'm Miguel. What's your name?"
Riley, of course, didn't respond. Miguel couldn't understand why. Miguel had never met a human being who had no clue what he was saying and he figured maybe she was just a quiet girl.
"I'm from Santa Cecilia. It's a town in Mexico," said Miguel. He wasn't used to being the one doing all the talking. But he thought it was nice to have someone who listens to him.
He talked to Riley all the way back to her house. Riley tried to act like she knew what he was saying.
When they finally got to Riley's house, her parents were surprised to see the little Latino boy standing next to her.
"Who is this?" said Riley's mom.
"I don't know his name, but he seems lost. He followed me all the way here," said Riley.
Why was everyone making these weird noises? Miguel's eyes widened as he realized getting back home was going to be harder than he thought.
