You've heard of the Sailor Senshi of course?
They're the mighty sailor-suited warriors of love and justice who wield the power of the planets themselves.
Sailor Venus, the soldier of Love.
Sailor Mercury, the soldier of Water.
Sailor Mars, the soldier of Fire.
And Sailor Jupiter, the soldier of Thunder.
But, once upon a time, there was another Sailor Senshi too.
Whether by daylight or moonlight, this Senshi never ran from a real fight.
She never turned her back on her friends when they needed her, forever there to defend them and anyone else in trouble. If there was only ever one person you could depend on to save the day, it was her.
She was the most powerful and invincible soldier of legend, Sailor Moon!
With the other Sailor Senshi to help fight, she tirelessly protected the Earth from all kinds of monsters and vile villains.
She vanquished the wicked witch of the Arctic who wanted to blot out the sun.
She stopped a doomed tree from taking root in the Earth.
She shattered the evil ebony crystal that would've stolen everyone's futures.
She rescued a little girl cursed to silence the whole world.
She ended the nightmare of the malevolent mirror queen.
She even saved the whole galaxy when chaos threatened to steal every star!
Now, Sailor Moon possessed many weapons to help her fight these foes, but she never really needed them. Nor did she need to summon fire or thunder to slay her enemies. She didn't even require ice or chains to capture them.
Because you see, Sailor Moon's greatest power was her courage and her kind heart. With those she was able to face anything. She didn't want to destroy evil. She wanted to protect and save all that was good.
Everyone in the whole world, the whole galaxy even, can live in peace thanks to her.
And, if any monsters rise up again, she will be there. From now, and for all eternity, Sailor Moon will be there to punish evil in the name of the Moon!
And in the name of every child who wishes to sleep safe and have beautiful dreams…
She stood just out of sight, peeping through the crack in the door.
Focusing her eyes through the gap she saw the man in the regal lilac uniform rise from the bed. Gently, he moved the little girl's head onto the pillow and pulled the covers over her. He brushed some of her bright pink hair aside before planting a kiss on her forehead.
"Goodnight, Small Lady," he whispered.
She backed away from the door as she spied him beginning to cross the crystalline floor. Once he exited and had quietly closed the door behind him she gave a little cough. He did a slight double take upon spotting her and she had to restrain herself from laughing.
"I noticed you embellished a few details," she said slyly, raising an eyebrow.
He gave a tiny shrug. "Just trying to keep her interested. Though I think she was starting to nod off after I mentioned the tree."
She moved a little closer to him.
"And what about the 'most powerful and invincible' part?"
His mouth curled into a smile.
"I meant every word."
They leaned in...
I'm Neo-Queen Serenity. I'm over a thousand years old and in my third incarnation. I can still be a bit of a klutz and a crybaby too. But the truth is, once upon a time, I was the pretty sailor suited soldier of love and justice...
...Sailor Moon…
A/N: Not only does Sailor Moon have a different release date vs. publication date, but different sources even list different publication dates too. In this case, Miss Dream stated 3rd Feb was when chapter 1 was first published, so I decided to mark the occasion with an anime celebratory story. As I've said elsewhere, since the manga is the original source for most of the major characters it makes more sense to me to celebrate the anime versions alongside them. In general I am going to try to release these anniversary fics between the 1st-6th of every month, the 6th being the latest any of the sources I consulted claimed the chapters were released. My idea is to try and release the manga Senshi anniversary stories on the 1st, the anime Senshi fics on the 3rd and basically everything else relevant in the gaps.
The idea for this fic was actually the very first anniversary story I dreamed up and for the longest time the ONLY one I was going to do. It seemed to invite itself as an idea because baby Chibi-Usa, listening to King Endymion, was in that context not dissimilar to the vast majority of children who grew up watching Sailor Moon.
So... Happy Anniversary Usagi!
