This must be it! This must be the place she had to go! This bright, beautiful Solar System. This big blue planet! This town! And… yes… that person.
She felt her form change. It was closer to how she used to be, back before she had begun her long journey here. It was all soft and squishy, with two arms and legs. But it was a lot smaller than she remembered it being. It was more like she'd been a very long time ago, when she had just been a child.
But why was she changing like this in the first place?
Oh well, she'd figure that out after she got to the ground. On that note, she conjured an umbrella and began floating down from the sky, the birds' feathers tickling her a little bit. Finally, she made a gentle landing and looked around. Everything was so big to her with these eyes. It would take a long time for her to find that special someone, so she had better get started.
Walking through the streets, she passed by a window and took in her own reflection. She really was tiny now, although her eyes were big and blue; almost like the planet itself. But it was her new hair that made her gasp out loud. It was a little bit curly like it had been before, but was now a reddish-pink. And what were those!?
She lifted one chubby little hand to the top of her head and patted the soft heart-shaped buns. She'd never had those before! But… she kinda liked them actually.
As she continued walking, she looked up into the crystal clear skies where the Sun was shining bright. No one could deny it was a simply beautiful day. So beautiful that she was sure the person she was looking for would be out enjoying it. When she looked back down something drew her attention to an open space with lots of trees and benches. Perfect! Just the kind of place someone would go to enjoy the sunshine!
Beneath the umbrella she wandered through the trees, the benches, stealing glances at all the passers by. She didn't know what that special someone looked like, but something told her she'd know them when she saw them. She wondered if they might resemble herself now. Maybe that was why she looked so different to how she'd been before?
A cool, pleasant breeze came up to meet her… then it happened. A warm, tingling feeling entered her chest and she turned around, peeking over her shoulder. She forgot the feeling however, when her hand slipped and her umbrella got carried away upon the wind towards a tall woman by a bench.
The woman had long golden hair like she used to have. And her hair was tied up into two buns almost exactly like she had now.
She stared open mouthed as the woman caught her umbrella for her and, kneeling down, returned it to her.
"Here," she said.
Taking the umbrella back she locked eyes with the woman. Then she giggled. She'd found her!
The woman smiled back and patted her head. "You're so cute. Bye now."
With that, the tall woman left along with her cat. Smiling, she followed her as steadily as her little legs could manage. Eventually, the tall woman noticed her and came back.
"Not good…" With a sigh, the woman knelt back down to her level, gently taking her shoulders. "Young lady…"
Something tingled inside of her. A word that she just knew had come from the tall woman's heart and straight into her own. It was strong, powerful, it was everything to the woman. And now, it was everything to her too…
"Chibi?"
Yes?
"What's your name?"
"Chibi?"
I guess now…?
She gave a big wide smile. "Chibi!"
It's Chibi!
The woman laughed nervously. "Are you by yourself?"
"Chibi?"
No, I'm with you?
"Where's your mother?"
"Chibi-Chibi!"
You can be my new mother!
"Where do you live?"
"Chibi!"
I'll live with you!
The woman was practically on the floor. Chibi sensed that she really wanted to go home and sleep. She was pretty tired herself, come to think of it.
In an instant, she saw the pretty house in her head and knew how to get there. A moment later, channeling a dash of remaining energy, she popped away from the woman and inside the house from her head.
"AAAAHHHHH!" Shrieked an older woman with bushy blue hair.
"Chibi!"
Uh oh, I better do something about this!
She wasn't sure why, but she got the strangest idea just then. Brandishing her umbrella before her she began spinning it around and around, channeling the last bits of her energy into it. The older woman calmed down, a dreamy look coming over her face.
"Chibi! Chibi! Chibi?"
I'm Chibi. Chibi! I'm gonna be your daughter from now on, okay?
A moment later, the woman gave a tiny shake of her head then focused her gaze back upon her.
"Oh, hello there ChibiChibi. Where've you been all day?"
"Chibi! ChibiChibiChibi!"
No, my name's just Chibi. Not ChibiChibi!
"Nevermind, you must be hungry. I'll fix you up a sandwich. Would you like that ChibiChibi?"
She was about to protest again when her stomach gave a tiny rumble.
"Chibi, Chibi."
Well, guess it'll be ChibiChibi from now on.
Later, after she'd finished the sandwich Ikuko-Mama had made, she waited by the front door, sensing the tall woman was going to be home soon. Sure enough, a moment later she smiled out at her as she entered through the door.
Unfortunately the sight of her made the tall woman fall to the ground.
"Oh, Usagi, you're home."
"M-Mama… that girl…!"
The older woman knelt down and held Chibi's shoulders. "You've been a bad big sister, running off and leaving your precious little sister all alone…"
In bed that night, ChibiChibi couldn't help but think the warm air around Usagi reminded her of someone. A woman with a bright, kind aura, who's love could light up the whole galaxy. Before she had come to Earth, she had seen that woman almost everyday, looking back out at her from the mirror…
She was gone now though. Gone forever. And there was no hope of her ever coming back.
She sniffled, but didn't quite cry.
She felt confused, frustrated and… alone?
Wait, how could she feel alone when she had found a brand new family today?
It was then she realised her feelings weren't entirely her own?
Getting out of bed, she padded down the hall to her new 'big sister' Usagi's bedroom. Inside she saw the blonde woman resting her head in her arms upon the desk. At the sound of the door opening though, she lifted her head up and turned towards her.
"ChibiChibi!"
ChibiChibi didn't reply. She was sensing a lot conflicted feelings from Usagi.
"What's the matter? Did you wet the bed or something?"
ChibiChibi tried to answer but all that came out was a tiny gurgling noise.
At the very time she had asked the question, Usagi had been thinking about someone else. Someone else who was also kind of small. Someone else who also had pinkish hair. Someone else with rabbit-like buns on top of her head. Someone… Someone very special to Usagi…
… Oh…
…That was probably why she looked like this now. That was why she had this new name. Why she had the idea to make Ikuko-Mama believe she was her daughter.
"Want to sleep with me?"
That same someone else flashed in Usagi's mind again, and now ChibiChibi's too. At that moment though, ChibiChibi didn't mind. All she cared about was that Usagi had been sad, and that sleeping with her tonight would make her happy! Come to think of it… that'd make both of them happy…
In the bed, ChibiChibi felt Usagi pull her a little closer. And, as she drifted off, she heard a sad voice from long ago softly echoing through the night.
"Now fly, my star, my Light of Hope! To the ends of the galaxy, where Chaos cannot see you… Find someone who will gently embrace you… "
ChibiChibi smiled, and embraced her own Light of Hope right back.
A/N: So I kind of felt guilty about not giving ChibiChibi much attention last year, which was the 25th anniversary of her debut. But by the time I had remembered and realized I should probably do a fic for her, her debut anniversary had come and gone. So I decided to do a little something for the 25th anniversary of her LAST appearance to make up for it.
At first I had 0 ideas of what to do beyond maybe writing from her POV as she rejoined Galaxia at the end of Sailor Stars. But then I remembered that the anime actually put in some really cool foreshadowing for ChibiChibi to be revealed as Sailor Cosmos, i.e. Usagi from the future. Except, for whatever reason, the anime opted to make ChibiChibi the personification of Galaxia's Star Seed instead.
Personally I love BOTH reveals of her true identity a lot, but the anime version left that foreshadowing in a weird limbo state. Rather than chalking it up to 'I guess Galaxia's Star Seed happens to resemble Usagi/have the same 'aura' as Usagi' I tried provide some answers to why ChibiChibi/Galaxia's Star Seed would have this big connection and similarities to Usagi.
Please let me know how you think I handled it.
