Chapter 5 A Leaf in the Wind
Its been a week since Korra came to Republic City to learn Airbending and master her spiritual connection.
And since she found out Ghost now identified as Sean had Godzilla sealed inside him sharing both bodies and minds together.
Since then people have tried to ask some questions about his past but he rejected them since he didn't want to bring those memories up.
And unsurprisingly Lin was being a royal pain and suggested to the Council he should be given the Death Penalty for containing Godzilla.
Sean's reply? He destroyed her department in a minute with Water Bending and punched her in the face breaking her nose.
Currently right now the two were with Tenzin in the dinning hall with Korra reading the paper.
"And in the Final round, the buzzard-wasps won with a deceive knockout. Why don't we go to the Arena tonight, catch a few pro bending matches." Korra said to Sean who chuckled snatching the paper from her.
"I knew you were gonna bring that up. You always listened to the Radio about these things." Sean said making her giggle.
"That sport is a mockery of the noble tradition of bending." Tenzin said before Godzilla took over.
"I do not see it that way. I see them being inventive for a sport that entertains. It's no different than the sports Humans created during the golden years before the war." Godzilla said as Sean took over.
"Would you rather they use their skills for crime?" Sean asked.
"Course not. But the Titans gave..." Tenzin tried to say.
"They gave them the power of bending. They never said they couldn't be inventive with it. Sadly Many used it in the last few thousand years for cruel reasons. But in time that will change." Sean said.
"Come on, Tenzin, I've dreamed about seeing a pro bending match since I was a kid, and now we're like right next to the arena." Korra said pointing to it outside.
"Korra, you're not here to watch that drivel. You're here to finish your airbending training and begin your spiritual training. So for the time being I want you to remain on the island." Tenzin said.
"Is that why you have White Lotus sentries around?" Korra asked.
"I thought I made myself clear. I don't want them around." Sean said glaring at them making them gulp.
"I know you still have issues with the White Lotus since what happened 13 years ago. But better to have them then not. They do still have skill." Tenzin said (Horse shit)
"Really?" Sean asked before water bending them into a wall knocking them out in a second without even actually moving.
"Still think that?" Korra asked making him sigh.
Soon Korra was in Airbending clothes ready to practice her airbending moves.
"So my mother told me originally you couldn't Airbend until Sean arrived when we knew him as Ghost." Tenzin said.
"Yeah. Sean helped me unlock it by focusing on what I cared about." Korra said smiling at him as Sean chuckled.
"Is that so?" Tenzin asked curious.
"Korra's not the first Avatar to have a mental block preventing them from using one of the four elements. There have been hundreds in the past that couldn't do it. I helped them unlock it with how bending first started." Sean said.
"I see." Tenzin said before they arrived at some kind of training exercise where Tenzin's kids were waiting.
"Korra's gonna Airbend! Korra's gonna Airbend!" Ikki said.
"What the heck is that?" Korra asked.
"Ah it's an old training exercise." Sean said.
"Indeed. This is a time honored tool that teaches the most fundamental aspect of airbending. Jinora, would you like to explain this exercise?" Tenzin asked.
"The goal is to weave your way through the gates without touching them." Jinora said.
"I'm gonna guess not as they are right?" Korra asked.
"I taught you well. Yeah you gotta do it while the damn things are spinning." Sean said making her smile at the praise before Tenzin airbended them to spin before sending a leaf through.
"The key is to be like the leaf. Flow with the movement of the gate. Sean, since you've been around since Bending existed you must know the movements." Tenzin said as Sean went in avoiding getting hit easily. "Airbending is all about spiral movements. When you meet resistance You must be able to switch direction in a moment's notice." Tenzin said as Sean made it through before Tenzin airbended it again.
"Ok...Lets do this." Korra said as she went in trying to do what she was told but got smacked around a couple times but did managed to make it to the other side.
"Ok not bad. You managed to make it through but got hit a few times." Sean said.
"Using Airbending is easy for me. It's the moves I'm still getting down." Korra said rubbing her arm.
"Normally the Element the Avatar has the most difficulty with is the one the most opposite to their personalty. Aang had difficulty with Earth bending since he was a natural airbender. Your original personality was the opposite to what you are now." Sean said making her smile as Godzilla took over.
"In time you will get this down. As Every Avatar we trained in the past very near the beginning." Godzilla said as Sean took control.
Later
Sean and Korra were training with some more advanced Water forms.
"So how many Avatars have you trained exactly?" Korra asked.
"Thousands. Godzilla and I began training them during the 10th Avatar. Never knew the Origins but I did notice the Titans that did look after mankind went into hibernation to recover faster when the cycle began. I can only assume they felt the Avatar could handle their responsibility until they fully regained their strength." Sean said.
"Where were you when the Cycle began?" Korra asked.
"We told you. Asleep. When we woke up and saw the First Avatar we knew we decided to train them every generation. They exceeded out expectations. And you have completely surpassed all of them." Sean said making her smile.
Thats when they heard the Radio about a Pro bending match making Sean smirk.
"Why don't we take a break." Sean said as water swirled around them before they landed on the roof to listen making Korra smile.
When the Match started to become intense the Radio turned off making them blink.
"Hmm?" Godzilla asked inside Sean.
"Both of you come down here." Tenzin said.
"Oh that figures." Sean said as they jumped down.
"What was that for? I'm not even training." Korra said.
"I thought I made myself clear. I don't want you listening to this distracting nonsense." Tenzin said.
"You said I couldn't go to a match. You never said anything about listening to one. And besides even the Avatar can't train every day. I would drop from exhaustion if thats all I did." Korra said making him sigh.
"I suppose." Tenzin said walking away while Sean smirked.
"You handled that very well." Sean said making her grin.
"I had a good teacher remember?" Korra asked making him smirk.
Next morning
Sean and Korra sat in a mediative stance to help her spiritual connection.
"Ah. I still hate this not doing anything thing." Korra said.
"Some things don't change that easily. I understand that more than anyone." Sean said.
"Can I ask you something? You said you were a scientist back then?" Korra asked.
"Yup and I enjoyed every second of it. I started out when I was 13. I followed my parents footsteps since they were scientists. They inspired me to follow in their footsteps ever since I was a little boy." Sean said making her smile.
"They must have been proud of you." Korra said making him sigh.
"I wouldn't know." Sean said confusing her. "My parents...When I was 10...Were killed in an accident in the labs. While Crime was extremely Rare in my day because of the Titans...There were still accidents in fields like theirs." Sean said.
"I'm so sorry. It must have been difficult losing them at a young age." Korra said.
"Yeah It was. But I still had my brothers and my best friends. I managed to move on after a couple months. It wasn't easy though." Sean said before smiling. "Why don't we get off the island tonight and go somewhere." Sean said making her smile.
"Oh yeah? To where?" Korra asked.
"To the Arena of course. I think you deserve a little break and see some new kind of action." Sean said making her grin.
Later
Sean in Godzilla's form at his size swam to the Arena before turning to his form with Korra next to him.
"Going up." Sean said swirling the water around them before they landed in the window. "Thank you for taking Express waterway." Sean said making Korra snicker.
"Very funny." Korra said before they walked into the Gym.
"Not bad." Sean said as they looked around before.
"Hey! What are you doing in my Gym?" A man asked.
"Sorry. Got lost and we ended up in here." Sean said.
"Oh that old nonsense. I've had it up to here with you kids sneaking in without paying. I'm taking you to security!"
"Is this really even worth your time old man?" Sean asked.
"Shut the hell you you..."
That was as far as he got before Godzilla took control snarling at him.
"Uh what I mean is..."
"Easy." Korra said holding him back. "Take it easy." Korra said as Sean took control.
"There you guys are."
Both turned seeing a guy about a year younger than Korra. He had white skin black hair and pale green eyes.
"I've been looking everywhere for you two."
"Got held up by the old prick with a stick up his ass." Sean said making Korra snort in laughter as she held it in while said old man glared at him.
"It's all right, Toza. Their with me."
"Whatever." Toza said.
"My advice go to a healer to get that stick out of your ass." Sean said making him growl annoyed. "Thanks for the Save." Sean said.
"No problem. Name's Bolin by the way." Bolin said.
"Oh we heard about you the last night." Sean said as Bolin took them somewhere else before they came to a contestant box.
"What do you think? Best seats in the house, Huh?" Bolin asked.
"I'm impressed." Sean said as two others walked in.
"Whoa." Korra said.
"Psst. Bolin."
"Yeah, Mako?" Bolin asked his brother.
"I told you to stop bringing your crazy fans here. Get them out of here." Mako said.
"Oh come on, Mako. Look, I kind promised them they could stay. But I got a good feeling about her. Theres something special about her." Bolin said before rushing to Korra. "Come here, I want you to meet my brother Mako." Bolin said as Mako got geared up.
"Mako? Wow, I heard you play on the Radio last night." Korra said moving to shake his hand.
"Come on, Bolin, We're up." Mako said walking past her.
"Ok never mind jerkface." Korra said with her eyes twitching.
"Yeah, Sorry about that. My brother. just gets real focused before a match. Okay, I gotta go." Bolin said getting his gear on. "Wish me luck. Not that I'll need it." Bolin said making her giggle as they entered the arena.
"Good Luck. Knock them out!" Korra said.
The match was soon over with Mako winning by himself.
"WHOO-HOO!" Korra yelled jumping into Sean making him look amused before she looked sheepish. "Sorry about that. I got a little excited." Korra said.
"Clearly." Godzilla said taking control for a second before Sean took control making her pout before Bolin cheered as well.
"YES! One more win and we're in the championship. So...What'd you think?" Bolin asked playing it cool.
'You realize he's flirting with her right?' Godzilla said.
'So? I don't think Korra's really into him.' Sean said calmly.
"Oh that was amazing." Korra said impressed before seeing their water bending teammate threw his gear.
"Idiot." Mako said.
"That was really incredible out there mister Hat trick." Korra said.
"Your still here?" Mako asked making her look really annoyed.
"Oh you still got a stick up your ass?" Korra asked making Sean chuckle.
"Ouch." Sean said
"Anyway I've been trained in bending my whole life but I've never seen moves like that. It's like theres a whole new style." Korra said.
"As Time goes by new moves are made. It's a natural part of nature." Sean said making her smile.
"Think you could teach me?" Korra asked Bolin.
"Absolutely." Bolin said.
"Right now?" Mako asked.
"Just ignore him. Though I'm not sure how I can show you my earthbending skills with your water bending." Bolin said making Sean scoff.
"Not a problem. I'm An Earthbender. Along with Fire, Air and Water." Korra said making him blink.
"I'm very confused right now." Bolin said.
"Three, Two, One." Sean counted.
"Your the Avatar and I'm an idiot." Mako said.
"Bingo." Sean said.
"Both are true." Korra said as Bolin looked in shock.
Later
"So I know who she is...But who are you?" Bolin asked Sean making him and Korra smirk.
"Maybe this will give a clear indication." Sean said as his body turned into Godzilla's but only big enough for the room shocking the brothers.
"Do you have a clear guess now?" Godzilla asked making them nod before Sean took over as his body appeared.
"So you're the guy who has the King inside you." Mako said.
"Yup. Been that way for 30,000 years." Sean said.
"So why does the Chief of Police hate you so much?" Bolin asked.
"Who knows. She just can't accept that the Titans are the good guys." Korra said.
"One of these days she's gonna do something to piss the big guy off." Sean said.
Next morning
Once more Korra was trying to get the movements of airbending in her head using the exercises from before. She was doing ok but she kept getting hit every now and then.
"Patience Korra." Tenzin said before she got hit again.
"Ok thats it." Korra said flying out before landing in front of Sean. "This isn't working. I need a different approach." Korra said.
"Korra this isn't something you can force. If you would just listen." Tenzin tried to say.
"I am." Korra said calmly before sighing. "Look I need a break." Korra said walking off.
"I got this." Sean said walking after her.
Arriving on the beach she sighed.
"I know this is frustrating but you will get it down in time." Sean said
"I know...But this training isn't working...I need something different." Korra said.
"Such as?" Sean asked.
"I don't know. Something that can make me think on my feet or something. I just need to use something different." Korra said.
"Your wise enough to know you need a different approach." Sean said making her smile lightly. "Don't worry you'll get it eventually." Sean said sitting next to her and held her close.
"Thanks." Korra said.
Later
Korra and Sean arrived at the arena to support Mako and Bolin for the finals.
But seeing the looks on their faces it was clear something was not right.
"Whats with you guys? You look down." Sean said.
"We didn't miss your match, did we? You guys look like you already lost." Korra said.
"We might as well have." Bolin said.
"Hasook isn't here so we're screwed." Mako said pissed off.
"Oh now I see the problem" Sean said before the Ref walked in.
"You got two minutes to come out ready to play, or you're disqualified." The Ref said before leaving.
"Well, there goes our shot at the tournament and the winnings." Mako said.
"Can't you ask one of those guys to fill in?" Korra asked looking at another team.
"You don't seriously think it's that easy now do you?." Sean asked.
"Can't. You can only play for one team." Bolin said.
"Well, then...How about me?" Korra asked. "I'm a top-Notch water bender, if I do say so myself." Korra said proudly.
"She is a lot more skilled than you're missing teammate." Sean said making her grin
"But you're the Avatar. Isn't that cheating?" Bolin asked.
"It's not cheating if she only uses waterbending." Sean said.
"No way, I'd rather forfeit than look like a fool out there." Mako said making her growl.
"Your starting to really annoy me with that attitude." Korra said before the Ref walked in.
"Times up. You in?" The Ref asked.
"We're in." Korra said.
"We are?" Mako asked.
"Yes!" Bolin said.
"Hey, I didn't agree to this!" Mako said.
"You can thank me later." Korra said getting geared up.
Meanwhile
Tenzin was looking for Korra but was not successful.
Then he went looking for Sean but also couldn't find him making him worried Lin had pulled something.
After not finding either he went to the White Lotus who were listening to the radio on the match.
"Hold on, Folks, we're just waiting for the Referees official call, But I think this replacement player could be..." The announcer said.
"Pardon me, everyone, have you seen Korra or Sean? I can't seem to find them." Tenzin said.
"You gotta be kidding me. She's the Avatar, Folks! Playing in a pro bending match!"
One female member of the Lotus spit her drink on a fellow member who looked annoyed while Tenzin was red in the face.
"I'll get them myself!" Tenzin yelled before leaving.
At the Arena
"The Avatar will be permitted to continue, so long as she solely bends water." The Ref said making the other team complain.
"Well shit." Sean said as Godzilla chuckled in his head.
'Can't say I didn't see this coming.' Godzilla said before Korra was knocked into the water before Sean jumped down to her.
"Not exactly very epic is it?" Korra asked.
"Your new at this so thats to be expected." Sean said helping her up before a shadow came over them making them turn and faced a rather annoyed Tenzin. "Oh boy." Sean said.
"Oh, hey, Tenzin. I thought you didn't like coming to these matches." Korra said sheepishly.
"Once again, you both had flagrantly disobeyed my orders. You both were to stay on the island. Lets go." Tenzin said.
"Look. I know you don't like these things but I feel like I'm meant for this." Korra said.
"Korra, your the Avatar..." Tenzin tried to say.
"So what? Your father goofed around during the end of the hundred year war. And some of those things helped him along the way. Maybe this can help me too. I know you think this is a disgrace to bending...But maybe it can help me." Korra said making him look at her before sighing.
"Very well...Continue." Tenzin said before she went back up.
"Tenzin...Nothing exists without a reason. Modern bending can be more insightful than you give credit for." Sean said as Korra evaded the other team's attacks beofre she was pushed to the edge.
"I fail to see how." Tenzin said.
"Watch." Sean said before Korra actually started doing the airbending movements like she was taught.
"How about that." Tenzin said amazed.
"See what I mean? Everything serves a purpose." Sean said before Korra's team won.
"WHOO-HOO!" Tenzin cheered making Sean chuckle before he composed himself and left.
Arriving to her team Sean approached Korra.
"You were right. I finally got it and all I needed was a different approach." Korra said.
"Everything serves a purpose in life." Sean said placing his arm around her as they left.
Arriving back at the island they saw Tenzin.
"I'm sorry if I made things difficult for you during the training." Korra said.
"You didn't do anything wrong. It's a sign of maturity and wisdom to know you need to take a different approach to get where you need to go. And that is something I'm proud of you for." Tenzin said making her smile.
"I'll see you bright and early. And by the way I kinda permanently joined the fire ferrets, and we're playing the tournament in a couple of weeks." Korra said running off making him sigh.
Later
While everyone was asleep Korra was trying to connect with one of her past lives.
Thats when Kyosh suddenly appeared with a smile.
"Hello, Korra." Avatar Kyosh said.
"Avatar Kyoshi. I need to know. Did you know Sean and Godzilla were merged together?" Korra asked making her smile.
"Of course I knew. He was a great teacher and very wise...Actually he was...More than just my teacher." Kyoshi said.
"What do you mean?" Korra asked making her smile before she figured it out. "Were you two..." Korra tried to ask.
"We were an item for a time. And I wasn't the only one. Avatar Yangchen also was romantically involved with him for a time." Kyoshi said.
"Wow. I never knew...But...Why did it end for both of you?" Korra asked making her sigh in regret.
"It was my fault. I pushed more than I should have." Kyoshi said.
"What are you talking about?" Korra asked.
"You may not notice now but theres a deep sadness within him. Something happened 30,000 years ago when the Kaiju came that he won't talk about. He blames himself for something that happened all those years ago. I always suspected he lost someone he greatly cared for." Kyoshi said.
"And you tried to get him to open up about it." Korra said.
"I did. But I pushed too far and cost me our relationship. We were still good friends but our relationship was over. And I spent my last few years wondering what could have been if I hadn't pushed too far. I know you feel the same way about him as I did long ago. Don't push things too far like I did...Or you'll spend your life wondering what could have been as I have." Kyoshi said vanishing leaving a curious and concerned Korra behind.
